"Tot Mom" to hit the stage!

Posted: 09:00 AM ET

Coming to a theater near you, down under: “Tot Mom”, seriously. Our intrepid Nancy Grace not only drew stunned viewers into her coverage of the Casey Anthony case but also an Oscar-Award-winning director who has turned the real life tragedy into a drama that will play out on stage in Sydney, Australia.

Steven Soderbergh, director of films such as “Erin Brockovich”, the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise movies, and “Traffic”, has written a play about Casey Anthony. The play will center on none other than Nancy Grace and how her "public crusade for justice for little Caylee transformed the case from a tragic story to a 24-hour news spectacle,” according to the Sydney Theater Web site.

Casey Anthony
Casey Anthony

While covering the story first hand I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone turned the tragic loss of Caylee Anthony into a movie, play, or book. Even investigators involved with the case would joke early on about who would play who in a movie because the case had so many twists and turns it seemed as if it couldn’t possibly be real.

One of the biggest twists that many people struggle with to this day is a human one; how could a mother go 30 days without reporting her child missing?

A trial for Casey Anthony is tentatively set for spring 2010. Many people have already determined that Casey Anthony is guilty of her daughter’s murder, but we have yet to hear her perspective through her defense team. However, we do know there is an overwhelming amount of evidence mounted against her by the prosecution and her original explanation of “the nanny did it” has been debunked, according to police.

Soderbergh was able to craft his play through Nancy Grace show transcripts, court documents, and police reports. The play is set to open on December 18 and run through January 31. If the play is able to capture just an inkling of the passion shown by Nancy Grace during her coverage of the case I have no doubt that will be a huge success.

please oh please tell me that the anthony family wont see one red cent( us or austrailain currency) of profits/from that play....not that i approve of a play( of all things) about this, but i pray they dont see any $$ at all... casey doesnt need any more goodies from the commisary!

Sh   October 30th, 2009 10:24 am ET

So sad that people will profit off Caylee's tragedy.

John Tiller in Dallas Texas   October 30th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

This girls is obviously crazy, however we need to let justice prevail and all the evidence be heard.

Legally Blond   October 30th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Anyone SUPRISED? We all knew in just a matter of time somebody would jump on the "band wagon" to profit from this tragedy! Anyone agree with my point of view?

S. H.   October 30th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

HA! Wow...I secretly hope it's a musical.

Sitara   October 30th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

I really don't think that play is a good idea considering the case hasn't gone to trial yet. The trial will never happen if eveybody has formed opinions already. The idea of a fair trial is to help both sides. Talking about it is not a good idea at this point.

Ivy's Gram   October 30th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I only hope that Mr. Soderbergh comes from Caylees side....Somebody standing up for the way it was for Caylee, sad and seriously sick, her death, but shown from the side of the baby that trusted that monster of a mother, and sideshow of people that surrounded her, pretended they cared, and in the end are willing to sacrifice her little life to the monster that took it. If we get that from it, then ok. Its a story that none of us will ever forget, it has been told from all the participants, all of them denying responsibility in it. If it were left up to them Caylee killed herself. I, for one, hope to see Mr. Soderbergh tell the tale for the benefit of the beautiful little girl.

Susanne Bach   October 30th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

Has anyone ever checked whether Casey's brother is the father of little Caylee? This would be a potential motive for him and Casey. I alway thought little Caylee looked just like Casey's brother.

Northern Neighbour   October 30th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

It is tasteless that someone would make a play about this tragedy. That said I hope all the profits/proceedes go to a memorial set up in Casey's honour/memory.

Carol A.Neaville-Wright   October 30th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

It is my hope the money made from this play wil be donated by Mr.
Soderbergh to a victim fund. I pray Casey Anthony nor her family will make any money or profit from it.

There is no doubt this story would end up as movie or HBO Special. Just hopenone of the Anthony family benifts finacaily from it.

Maybe this play will bring to light the issue there are men and women in the U. S, and around the world who kill their children for no other reason than they do not want to be a parent. Should the U.S, look at adoption laws and make it easier for couples adn families to adopt? This would l keep many women from the decsion of abortion allow ing U.S. children to find the homes they so despriatly need. In additon, it woudl stop the fertiization doctors and clinics from making fasle promises and so much money.

I wish Mr. Soderberghteh bes t as long s no one inthe Anthony family profits in any way. May the soulof little Kaylee Anthony rest in peace.

Christine H   October 30th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

This is what our society is about, we should all know by now that people will do anything and everything to bring people's personal tragedies that they have no personal connection to and make money off of it. It makes me sick to live in a world where this is acceptable

Grand Nana   October 30th, 2009 2:02 pm ET

Completely and totally disgusting that someone can profit from a death such as this one. What a sick and disgusting world we live in.....

Mo   October 30th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

I read an article about the "black box" in our cars. Can this be used to track her down / regarding her whereabouts.

SRJ   October 30th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

What's disgusting and sick is "CASEY ANTHONY". Check out you tube and you will see just how sick she is. Everything is about CASEY. Why in the world didn't her parents say what the hell did you do and demand an answer?

char   October 30th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

susanne, =yes ive thought that too, but i THINK they allready checked that/ eliminated him as caylees dad...

andrea   October 30th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

It was already proven that Lee is not the father of Caylee. I don't think anyone (not even Casey) knows who the dad really is.
I followed this story from the start on Nancy Grace. It is sad people will make money off of Caylee but it isn't a total surprise. I know eventually there will be a movie too.

Tom   October 30th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

Steven Soderbergh is a very wealthy writer/producer/director. He will not be "making a profit off this tragedy." He will be spending a large amount of time and likely his own money to stage a production that is scheduled to run a couple of weeks. No profit there. What will be interesting is how your heroine is portayed in the production. Soderbergh tends not to love shrill bullies who talk much more than they think. Could be interesting...

c   October 30th, 2009 3:29 pm ET

i pray and hope the anthonys dont see one red cent, us currency or aussie, from this play! casey doesnt need any more treats/beauty products from the commisary!

Teresa, OH   October 30th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

People can gripe all they want about Nancy Grace, but she has a nose for sniffing out guilty parties and she's been right on the Casey Anthony saga all along.

Nancy Grace's show, producers and staff provide such a public service for Victims, especially children-the innocents.

RE: "how could a mother go 30 days without reporting her child missing?" That is quite simple: the child wasnt missing, it's mother knew where it was the whole time.

Louise   October 30th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

The story re: the college girl missing from the concert last week, something very "fishy" about that. Her parents seem very up tight and why did she wander off to rest room alone, where was her ticket since she was so thrilled about seeing this concert wouldn't she have it on her?? Also what she wore and being such an attractive girl long blonde hair and made up like a model. From what was stated she wore black t-shirt, black mini skirt, black tights and black high boots. That sounds kind of wild to me. She either got a call from someone she wanted to see and wandered off to meet him or someone did grab her. I think she went off on her on for some reason. Looks like her parents are very strict and worry about what 'people' would think – this whole deal sounds very strange – something definetly not right at all. Parents keep saying she wouldn't do this or that and father states she was "taken".....Just weird!!

char   October 30th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

teresa oh is dead on...
RE: "how could a mother go 30 days without reporting her child missing?" That is quite simple: the child wasnt missing, it's mother knew where it was the whole time.

how else can you explain the "beautiful life" tattoo after caylee goes missing? also when divers found something in the ekcon( sp) river, she had NO reaction( she knew it wasnt caylee) yet when they discovered caylee= before they even divuldged it was a female child, casey went beserk, hyperventalating, asking for sedative...heck for all anyone knew at that time could have been trenton duckett( around 2 yrs old) =answer? she KNEW caylee was found and the jig was up!

Allison, CANADA   October 30th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

What would be really sad is anyone who goes and watches this

JLP   October 30th, 2009 6:50 pm ET

I can't believe anyone would take advantage (other than the Anthony's) of this tragedy!!! Especially when the one's it appears to be taking advantage already have to much. It's not like the story isn't already out there. Let baby Caylee RIP!!!

Katrina Gambill   October 30th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

This is a complete and total OUTRAGE. Hasn't this poor little girl siffered enough, why can't people let Caylee and her family rest in peace??? I just wonder what Casey's parents have to say about this and how they feel?! Also are they going to allow this and other notrocities to happen????

Linnette   October 30th, 2009 7:57 pm ET

I have been trying to keep up with this case from the beginning. I faithfully watched Nancy Grace every evening. I think it is terrible that anyone could even consider even making a play about this horrible event. And I sincerely hope that there will be no payment or benefit to Casey and or her family for this terrible crime. Caley was a beautiful baby girl. She will be missed by so many people.

Dutch Alexander   October 30th, 2009 9:13 pm ET

Why is this scumbag director doing this? Is he that hungry for money? Casey Anthony is a baby killing POS and she will do anything for money. She needs to be tried and convicted of her crime. As for her family, they will do anything tostay in the public eye. The whole family needs to be locked up for life.

Kilgo   October 30th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

Her brother is not Caylee's father, they did a DNA right after they found her

ELC   October 30th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

This is the most horrid thing I have heard! To make money off this poor baby's death!! Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves!

melissa   October 30th, 2009 9:41 pm ET

well it is like this you guys i do belive that the mother of the child needs to be with the general population and i also do wish that they didnt come up with that stuiped play beging with i think if they get any money form this it should all go to a homless shelter or a homeless child that is in bad shape

marilyn   October 30th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

you have got to be kidding me – to make a play of this crazy casey anthony and possibly make a profit on this? what kind of respect does this show the murdered victim – caylee? this is not only immoral, but it's extremely sad.

Savannah   October 30th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

Who is going to start making a play to a case that isn't even closed yet? How is he supposed to end it? Hopefully the way we all want it.. Death sentence or life behind bars with no damn chance for parole, Casey Anthony disgusts me.

G.Ralph   October 31st, 2009 12:37 am ET

How much lower will people go to make a buck?? This is shameful, and completely without merit. This is beyond repulsive, and repugnant...tHINK, for a moment, the pain, fear, sheer terror little Caylee felt as she looked into the eyes of her murderer while having duct tape placed over her little mouth and nose!!! SHOW THIS BABY SOME RESPECT!! FOR GOD'S SAKE, DON'T TRY TO MAKE MONEY OFF THIS BEAUTIFUL BABY!! This is beyond shameful!

AP from Central WI   October 31st, 2009 1:09 am ET

Like others, I'm hoping the Anthony family doesn't profit off this play. And I know that Casey is innocent until proven guilty. But think..... if this play gains momentum, more people will know about Caylee's story. More people will demand answers. More people will demand Justice for Caylee, who never saw her 3rd birthday. And the less likely it will become that the defense will be able to railroad an unknowing jury with some crazy story. Casey failed that little girl as a mother, regardless of whether or not it was by her hand that Caylee passed. Everyone should know that.

enrapturelj   October 31st, 2009 1:30 am ET

Sitara, the reason for a fair trial is not to help both sides, but to ensure that the guilty will not be able to say that they were unfairly convicted. The trial ABSOLUTELY will happen unless Casey dies.

deborah   October 31st, 2009 5:31 am ET

you have got to be kidding
we are going to allow this wacked out murder to
talk to the public eye
so her family can get kudos

this is gone on long enough
let that child lay in peace
what the hell is wrong with the press
are we that desperate to have to watch this
worm of a woman defend herself !

put her in a cell , in the dark till
they find her gulity and i say she gets the death penalty
before she does this again !

Toni in TX.   October 31st, 2009 7:30 am ET

Does this even surprise anybody? This is as tasteless [if not more] as the A-hole who was selling the Caylee "Sunshine" dolls on the internet! I pray that someone will put a stop to this...ASAP!!! What's going to be next...Saturday morning Casey cartoon hour??

CMJA   October 31st, 2009 7:52 am ET

THE ONLY GOOD OUT OF THIS TRAGEDY IS CAYLEE IS IN HEAVEN UP ABOVE IN A BETTER LIFE HOPING, (IF CASEY DID IT, BECAUSE ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE BUT, SORRY TOO MUCH PROOF AGAINST HER) ANYWAY, HOPING HER MOTHER WILL REPENT HERSELF AND ADMIT OR SAY THE TRUTH FOR ONCE. I MYSELF THINK CASEY IS CRAZY, COO COO.

RS   October 31st, 2009 11:06 am ET

Missing from the ( spectacle ) is any consideration from the perspective of a father's side of family where little Caylee is concerned. It is not little Caylee's fault she lacks a father's input on events, grandparents, aunts and uncles on the father's side to intervene, or attempt to on her behalf, to call things what they are.

What we have here IMO is a complete free-for-all geared from and toward what the maternal side is up to or did or did not do when one only needs the ability allowed by empathy as if from a father's side to balance things out.

Let Lance imagine little Caylee as though from her paternal side of the family, maybe she would not be so quick to trumpet her take on potential for success of those making money off a dead little girl, so impatient to make a buck, they cannot even wait till the little tiny girl has had her posthumous day in court.

A father's side of family, and those who possess empathy to imagine on their behalf and that of Caylee, IMO would be outraged at the greed based impatience of the timing of this production.

On Nancy Grace, I don't believe she made a a 24 hour spectacle of this case related to little Caylee Anthony, it is the circumstances of the case that have driven it. Never before have I seen, likely have we seen so many lies from so many that should have otherwise been associated with her well being, so that alone will generate interest.

Jackie   October 31st, 2009 12:11 pm ET

I too hope the play (which I dont think should be done) comes from the view point of the child. Someone needs to speak for Caylee since her family wont. So very sad. I hope they lock Casey up for a very long time. Lets see how much partying she does then,

Nancy   October 31st, 2009 12:19 pm ET

I have been following this case since day one, as so many others have who love children. I feel she's guilty and i hope she never sees a day outside of prison. I never believed in the death penalty until i saw so many children being murdered, especially by their own parents.

barbara   October 31st, 2009 1:07 pm ET

how in the world can you make a movie play or write a book for a case that hasnt been solved or have a closure to? no one even knows exactly what happen or how it happen, this whole case is as wishy washy as her family. this family is very disfuntional and seems not to know anything about anything. they all need to be charged and sentenced to life or even death. casey, you know what happen to your daughter get your head out of the clouds and fess up, for your daughters sake. your partying days are over so forget about those days and wishing you could be there, where are your friends now, still hanging out and not thinking about you. this play is as sick as the rest of this case, this person has to be of some kin to this sick and disfuntional family, let this little girl rest now, shes in heaven enjoy the life that she couldnt live here, show her some compassion.

J   October 31st, 2009 3:34 pm ET

It is a sick fact that vultures in this world make a fine living profitting from other's tragedies. I think it should be against the law to produce a play before the case has even been prosecuted. Some folks just have no morals. Remember them? Morals? Or, how about just plain old good ETHICS? Disgusting.

Beth   October 31st, 2009 4:35 pm ET

Why are so many blaming the Anthony family? One person and one person alone (in that family)committed this crime.. and we all know it. My heart goes out to the rest of the family, who have lost not only their precious grandbaby, but their daughter as well. It took incredible courage for the grandmother to turn her daughter in... demand the answers regardless of the outcome. Their lives have been devastated too.. as they are the other victims of this woman's treachery.

Gail   October 31st, 2009 7:12 pm ET

Well ... it was bound to happen eventually. Keep in mind that "art" often speaks of tragedies, both real and fictional. I believe this is extremely poor timing because the case has not concluded, and the facts are not all on the table. It would be a travesty if the defense leverages the publicity to suggest a "fair trial" is not possible, or if jurors are not capable of distinguishing the facts from the "art". The Anthony family is certainly messed up, however I suggest any family in this situation would be. My preference, delay the fiction till the fact is known and Caylee's killer is on death row.

SassyValley   October 31st, 2009 7:39 pm ET

I don't think should be happening yet.. I agree that there will be a book or movie made out of this.. That's fine after the trial. After they have put her in the Death chair which I hope she gets..,. I also hope that the family doesn't get any of the money.. They should donate at least 50% to a chairity for children somewhere.. Like John Walsh.. American Most Wanted.. I hope poor Caley is resting in Peace..

Zoe   October 31st, 2009 9:59 pm ET

I love Nancy Grace. However, she is making tons of bucks on her broadcasts about the case. I don't begrudge her the $$, but money is always made on the tragedies of our day.

I don't see how a play that portrays guilt in anyone could be performed before the trial. Surely her lawyers will get jumping on that issue. Maybe they won't, maybe they could use it to prove Casey can't get fair trial.

Too strange.

Hatchville   October 31st, 2009 10:10 pm ET

I just hope that the play will in no way be comedic...there is nothing funny about what happened to Caylee! And I agree with others, nobody in the Anthony should profit from this horrible tragedy. Maybe Steven Soderbergh should seriously consider donating profits from the play to any reputable charity or fund that sole mission is to help missing, exploited, or abused children.

sirjef8   October 31st, 2009 11:23 pm ET

What has this entire world come to? – - – A Book – - – An on Stage production – - -about the murder of CAYLEE – - glorifying her Snot Ho Mother – - – if one could stoop so low as to call casey a MOTHER – - by greedy $$$$$$$$ money hungry blood suckers! On the death of a precious little person! – - I disdain them all – - may God rest HIS Judgement on them! HE will! – - And HE will forgive me for my feelings!

I am appalled at the number of people making money off the murder of this precious child – - – and out of all of them – - – her grandparents – - – worthless TRASH – - -who cared not to protect – - – just another "burden" in their life!

saftgek   October 31st, 2009 11:50 pm ET

If this story is true, it is nothing more or less than reinforcement of the pimps of the film world who will take any story and use it to make a buck.

How sad the absence of morality and right in our society. For a filmmaker to climb into the basement of an outhouse to glorify such a despicable person absolutely speaks to their amorality.

Naturally, the morally and ethically bankrupt of our society will likely watch this piece of trash, no matter what the form.

Our country is in such grave danger of following the path of the Roman Empire!

Linda Sloat   November 1st, 2009 12:23 am ET

When does her trial start? Look at her cold, black eyes...she is made of ice.

Angie   November 1st, 2009 8:12 am ET

wow- you have got to be kidding me! I have a daughter just a few months younger then Caylee and the thought of her own mother being involved just makes me sick to my stomach-- the sad part is that people will watch this play- and then rant and rave about how sick it was! or how sad it was! the bottom line here is a young mother that did not want the responsibility of taking care of her own child - so she did away with her– it is oblivious and unfortunately Casey will probably not get what she deserves- Sad..... so sad!

Joe   November 1st, 2009 9:15 am ET

It is kind ofhard with all the media coverage, not to have a conclusion that TOT MOM is guilty. Yes, the big question, you wait 30 days to report that your child is missing. I also do not trust the parents, they know the truth. It seems that this poor little girl, did not fit into Tot Moms parties. In my opinion, she is nothing more that a crack whore. I hope in the end she pays dearly for her being greedy.

seadog14   November 1st, 2009 11:49 am ET

Here in Florida we are tired of the Anthony family making money off their dead grand-daughter. Bloggers on Channel 9 WFTV.com have written the newspaper and the theatre in Australia to condemn this action. Everyone wants a piece of the pie, and to say "Crime doesn't pay" is an oxymoron–In the future I will be watching for this directors movies and will refuse to see them in theatres or buy them in the store. Hit them where it counts, in the ole cash cow. The media is to blame for this also–the media needs to give more attention to the victim and none to the criminal. Even to the extent of issuing the prison or jail number to the inmate and to dehumanize the perp to the max. The Anthonys and this director are nothing but leeches who make money off of the victims pain. Action is better than words, do not pay to see it, do not buy any controversial material related to this case.

brenda   November 1st, 2009 12:29 pm ET

I bet Casey A. is loving this attention

VD   November 1st, 2009 1:30 pm ET

It's actually interesting whether the play is centered on the case or on Nancy Grace. Because Nancy Grace, with her way of covering it, DID turn it into a news spectacle! Perhaps it's a Natural Born Killers-like view of the coverage.

Amy in Sacramento, CA   November 1st, 2009 2:09 pm ET

I, too, have been watching this whole thing unravel. It is insane that a mother would hurt her own child. And to show such disregard and disrespect to that poor, defenseless little girl. As children we look up to our parents for everything; food, clothing, protection, love. And to have that person turn on you must be horifying. I hope Casy never sees the light of day on the outside or the inside for that matter. She will meet her maker one day and suffer the worst concequence there.

Mrs. N   November 1st, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Her brother Lee is the father of Caylee- I'd bet money on it.. I mean come on, CayLEE she named her! I think it is a shame we can't just duct tape Tot Mom and out her in a trunk as her punishment. Justice fails so many kids. Thta is why I belive in abortion. NO, it isn't right but it is better than women that don't use birth control (which is FREE at Planned Parenthoods) and then end up having kids and murdering them. Tot mom's parents are not innocent in this. Seriously- your daughter and tiny granddaughter live with you and you don't wonder why you don't see your granddaughter, but only your daughter for a MONTH?? Plus, she knew her daughter had murdered Caylee when she reported that dead smell in her daughter's trunk. Now she tries to go back on that. Who on earth would think THAT if tot mom had been a caring mom or you believed your daughter. She knew she wasn't and she didn't. She is just desperate to save her even though she is a murderer. No one should love their kids that much!

Bob   November 1st, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Legally Blond: You said it all!!!!! I agree.

Monica   November 1st, 2009 3:04 pm ET

I am thoroughly disgusted...but not at all surprised!

Monica   November 1st, 2009 3:08 pm ET

P.S. Why does everyone keep calling her "Tot Mom"??? Whether or not she murdered her child, Casey Anthony does not deserve the title of 'mom'. That is a special title, reserved for one who truly loves and cares for their child. Even if she didn't murder little Caylee, she partied for 30 days while the child was supposedly 'taken' by a fictitious nanny. A real 'mom' would not be able to sleep, much less party, or not tell anyone, if her baby were taken by someone. I don't care what the circumstances. But I can hardly wait to hear what the defense comes up with...

Yari   November 1st, 2009 4:11 pm ET

OMG! I followed this case since the moment it happened.. Was pregnant at the time and even considered naming my daughter after Caylee in memory of her.. Casey is completely guilty and deserves to spend life in prison without parole.. Not even the death penalty will do justice.. What would she suffer if her life is just taken away.. She needs to rot in prison in complete isolation for the rest of her life. RIP Caylee. You are an angel and we will try to have justice served for you..

Judy   November 1st, 2009 6:22 pm ET

I can't believe you are making a movie about Casey Anthony. What is wrong with this world! Keep the hype going?? A baby is dead and someone is making money from this! Everyone involved in any way of this garbage should be ashamed.

Jane   November 1st, 2009 7:10 pm ET

I am Australian and I doubt very much that this play will be watched by many as not too many people are even aware of the case.
I read the CNN news each day on line and have followed this story from day one I dont even think it was a news item over here.

I truely belive this girl killed her child and I hope she gets whats coming to her. I think she use to drug her little girl so she could party and I think she gave Caylee to much one night and she died.
As far as the Grandparents getting paid for this it is based around court doc and transcripts I dont think the producer needed permission
I find it deplorible that this is being done not proud to be an Aussie at the moment.

Sharon   November 1st, 2009 8:19 pm ET

This is a sick thought but here goes: Given the actions of George Anthony--–I would not be surprised if Caylee is his daughter. This is very plausable -just as plausable as despite all odds he is still saying that little Caylee is still alive---has he been tested or had DNA been taken from him? It could be a dirty family secret!!!!!!!!!!

Maria   November 1st, 2009 8:42 pm ET

Steven Soderbergh will not profit from this at all..his entire fee is being donated to a missing children's charity.

Bell   November 1st, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Well this is just disgusting. There is way too much exposure of this case not only in the US but now elsewhere. Everyone deserves a fair trial whether or not the public thinks they are guilty or innocent. Everyone knows this play is going to end up on you tube and all over the blogs, this will further taint the jury pool and there will be no way they will ever be able to find 12 people who have never heard of the Anthony's. Regardless of people's opinions, including my own, we all must agree that an individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, they should not be tried in a public forum or on a stage in Australia. Justice for Caylee.

Tammy V   November 1st, 2009 11:35 pm ET

I find it appalling that anyone could think the tragic loss of this little angel at her mother's hands is appropriate material for a play. This evil, cold-hearted witch doesn't need more publicity. Instead of a play, Mr. Soderbergh, how about some respect and justice for little Caylee and the thousands of other defenceless victims like her?

KED   November 2nd, 2009 1:11 am ET

More money be made on Caylee Anthony,OMG.
I hope all that money could be use to set up a Fund set up for Children And young single Mothers that would give them the Support and help they need and counseling services. I believe Casey Anthony most likely is responsible for Caylee death. I really would like to know how she died the Forensic State and Federal Say it is Homicide. How did they come to the conclusion? I do not think Casey Anthony will have a chance in Hell of a Fair Trial and Face the Death Sentence. Her Attorneys know that and ask for relocation of the trial which has been denied thus far. So why don't they come out and tell the public what the "all the very understandable reasons of what happen?" IMO: No! They want their 15 minutes of Fame also and Casey Anthony is Victim of News Media coverage to the point of insanity.
How much money did The News Media make on Casey Anthony already and are some News media secretly footing the Bill by going though a third party fund for all the of Casey Anthonys Trial needs? I Really think the Public has the right to know this answer and just not behind close doors in a Judges Chambers. I think this Judge needs to give this case to another Judge in all Fairness of the Laws and Justice for Caylee Anthony in the end.

Dana   November 2nd, 2009 1:15 am ET

I also have been following this story since day one, and I agree with linda Sloat that she is a cold and heartless person, who only thinks about herself. Look at the way she treats her parents. Who in my opinion aren't that normal either, Caylee is safe now and in hands of God, I hate to say she's better off but I think she is. The whole family would have tortured her all her life. Cindy and George screwed up royally with Casey, look how she turned out and they would have done the same thing to Caylee.

I'm looking forward to her Trial and hope to God they prove their case and hope Casey never see's the light of day again and that she is put in the General Population in prison and see how popular she's going to be there.

Pamela   November 2nd, 2009 1:56 am ET

It's a scary world, morals, principals, respect and so on have all but flown out the window these "daze," Casey didn't want her child and was too scared to "fess up" to mom & dad so she got rid of her.
She's a "party girl," too inmature for motherhood. It's a shame we can't talk to those closest to us to prevent such heart ache. We all also need the back bone to intervene when we see a family member that we KNOW needs help like I feel Casey MUST need. It's all too late for Caylee now. But at last........God holds her now.

Caz   November 2nd, 2009 4:00 am ET

I think it's sick making a play before a case is over and done with....They should wait at least a few years, with respect to the little girl.

It's sick but I have to say very american.

James L. McIntyre   November 2nd, 2009 8:01 am ET

THE BODY IN THE VACANT LOT IS NOT AND NEVER WAS CAYLEE MARIE ANTHONY! The young JANE DOE will forever be UNIDENTIFIED because of the premature releasing of the body. The reconstruction of the skull of an unidentified body is always done first and foremost to insure positive identification. In the case of Caylee Marie Anthony this was not done at all. Against the wishes of the pathologist assigned to do the hands on work, this body was released to the "Grandparents" prematurely. This is a still unidentified murder victim of a still UNSOLVED murder case. We have two unsolved felonies within a space of approximately two miles apart. One is a kidnapping and the other an unsolved murder of an unknown child. Caylee's kidnapper is WELL KNOWN to the state of Florida and has SEVERAL convictions on her record. She was convicted TWICE for the kidnapping of children! Make that THREE!

Bumberly   November 2nd, 2009 8:18 am ET

anyone who thinks that a childs death is entertainment is as guilty as the person who killed her.

Miltiarymale   November 2nd, 2009 9:09 am ET

Outrageous that any country would allow the presentation of such a event in any form especially for profit. It shows our social enviroment sliding back the caveman days as far as ethics and morals. The simple fact that a producer or anyone would make such a movie about such a gruesome event is outrageous i recommend we ban its playing in the USA. I will never watch another movie by this producer his morals are lacking.

Amaranth   November 2nd, 2009 9:22 am ET

Ugh why am I thinking of those 9/11 movies they put out a few years ago. It's sort of the same thing here, why would anyone want to watch this? We already lived it. If it was twenty or thirty years in the future but right now, when this woman hasn't even gone up for trial?

I think she probably did kill her daughter but isn't she still supposed to be innocent until proven guilty? What if she's found to be innocent? Sonderbergh should've at least waited until she was convicted; not that I'd watch it then either.

agentwade   November 2nd, 2009 9:24 am ET

I'd love to hear Nancy Grace's shrill and stilted response to the accusation that she and Steven Soderbergh are both exploiting the death of a child for their respective gains.

Staangette   November 2nd, 2009 11:25 am ET

I too also hope the Anthony's don't see a penny...as I don't think they will as they did not (as far as we know) 'sell' the story to anyone. Mr. Soderbergh SHOULD donate at least part of the proceeds to a missing childrens charity/fund. Nancy Grace is an astonishing reporter and deserved to be recognized for making Caylee (NOT CASEY!!!) front page news and keeping her in the public eye until she was found.

I hope someday Caylee Anthony will be able to Rest In Peace once her killer is brought to justice.

stephanie   November 2nd, 2009 11:57 am ET

sad that people will get entertainment from this little girls death. i think Casey ANthony is guilty of killing her daughter she knows shes guilty of it . another case of mom wants to party and kids in the way . we need a system so if parents want to get rid of thier kids up to age 18 they can surrender the kids so this doesnt happen . sooo sad .

Mary   November 2nd, 2009 12:49 pm ET

You people who complained about the Chris Farley-Tommy Boy-David Slade commercial for Direct TV....how do you feel about THIS disgusting and revolting exploitation?

JenniferJustice   November 2nd, 2009 1:06 pm ET

I am not at all supportive of exploiting little Caylee's tragedy for the purpose of entertainment, however, there is something to this case that needs to be addressed: Pretty people do bad things too. Men need to see and understand that what a woman looks like can be quite contrary to how she thinks and lives. In fact, a sociopath (which I beleive Casey Anthony is to the hilt) will use her attractiveness to manipulate men to get what she wants even if it is merely support and loyalty. You've gotta have somebody remain on your side when the real you does come out! I am tired of hearing the same comment over and over again. "But she's so pretty!" What does that have to do with guilt or innocence? It seriously concerns me because men will be on her jury and they are so affected to physical attraction they are unable to be objective. Look at Debra LaFave. I realize her crimes were not violent and she did not take a life, but she committed crimes that are completely unacceptable and yet she was merely given a slap on teh wrist because why? She's pretty. She was not made to serve her time as any man or ugly woman would have been made to. She was not only kept from general population, but she was placed in a prison facility known to be more "friendly" and not nearly as harsh as a regular prison because it was deemed that due to her physical make-up, she would be unfairly targeted and more vulnerable. I have been angry about this ever since it happened. Sometimes perpetrators and victimizers are good looking people. They deserve the same punishments as anybody else and they deserve the same convictions. Pretty does not deserve to be found innocent nor lighter sentences. Stop the bias!

Watcher   November 2nd, 2009 1:30 pm ET

I believe crime writer Diane Fanning has already come out with a paperback on this story, so this Australian is not the first.

Seems to me that Casey Anthony only enjoyed her child while she got attention for having a cute little baby. Once the baby became a child with a mind of her own, Mom Casey didn't get the same attention and the child became an annoyance and a burdon to the self-centered attention seeking liar.

Colorado Mom   November 2nd, 2009 1:32 pm ET

Very Tasteless,
this is an ongoing Murder case that has not even been heard as yet, nothing should be allowed to interfere with the process of justice for little Caylee. No one should profit from the death of this little girl. I hope the producer rethinks this choice.
Mother of three

Laura   November 2nd, 2009 1:43 pm ET

This is truly disturbing.

IF the title would focus more on Caylee and prevention, then this might be a worthwhile show. However, the title indicates it is about the "TOT MOM' which only leads us to believe we have to continue to look at her face and listen to the words that come out of her mouth! Since she has zero credibility, why would you go see her in a play? Do you like to see people just outright lie?

What I think is that we will never know what happened to Caylee, so now all these "writers" can make up whatever they want. Maybe at least with writers making it up, it might make some sense instead of depending on a Grandmother and Grandfather, who need to stand up and defend Caylee and not Casey. They don’t care about Caylee at all, since she was found.

They appear to only want to ensure that everyone knows that they were good parents.

Guess what! WE all know you were good parents. We do know that but face it, she is just not a good person and this is NOT your fault! You know what she did so please, just tell the police officers. End this now and let her start to serve her time and get some help. Continuing the lying and changing your story......just reflects badly on you.... not Casey... we already know her.

Your daughter is sick but it is not your fault. How many more people are you willing to lose?

JenniferJustice   November 2nd, 2009 2:44 pm ET

To Beth: Although it's true that the only criminal is whoever murdered Caylee (cough cough CASEY! cough) and her parents (The Anthonys) are victims too, you have to be honest in that they have done everything they can to protect Casey ever since the evidence mounted against her and they realized they were losing their daughter as well as their granddaughter. They started protecting Casey and became down-right uncooperative with the law. They've inihibited every aspect of the investigation, made fraudulent claims against innocent people and absolutely refuse to help the police. They won't answer questions honestly, they won't provide any evidence that would go against Casey and they've renegged witness statements that would incriminate their daughter. I ceased feeling sorry for them along time ago, when I realized they not only protect that monster, but they made that monster. Casey is a textbook example of how spoiling, failure to hold your children accountable, and enabling all lead to sociopathy. I don't think they even protect Casey for Casey's sake. I think Ma Cindy doesn't want the world to know what Casey really is because it reflects poorly on herself (Cindy). Another narcist. I feel a bit sorry for the father, George, because he is obviously railroaded by Cindy, but he's a man. Where are his cohonas right now?

Laura Wallace   November 2nd, 2009 3:03 pm ET

Is this a joke? Truly tasteless!

Observer   November 2nd, 2009 3:03 pm ET

I read the posted comments with much interest. It is true that media interest in this homicide would have died without the publicity it has received on the Nancy Grace show. If anyone has made a profit from the production of plays or the sale of dolls, Nancy is the one who has made it possible. However, I find it difficult to believe that I am one of the few Nancy Grace viewers who understands how to spell and use grammar.

Trisha   November 2nd, 2009 3:08 pm ET

Suzanne, they did DNA testing that determined that Lee (Casey's brother) was NOT the father of Caylee. I never thought that Caylee looked like him, but I personally have a 4-year-old son who is the spitting image of my younger brother. So it's not that unusual. As far as I know, it has never been determined who Caylee's father is.

JenniferJustice   November 2nd, 2009 3:12 pm ET

James McIntyre, what are you talking about? If you think you have an answer, why don't you share rather than riddle? Who has three convictions for kidnapping? And, who, at this stage of the case, believes it was anyone other than Casey? Or are you saying Casey has kidnapped before? I'm confused, but not amused.

Watcher   November 2nd, 2009 3:23 pm ET

Just because people have heard about this case does not mean that 12 jurors can't be fair. A fair person can set aside what they have heard and go into the trial with an open mind–listen to the evidence and based on the evidence find the acused innocent or guilty.

WHAT!!!!???   November 2nd, 2009 4:30 pm ET

Hey Jennifer Justice
I'm with you – WHAT is James McIntyre talking about?? I know the Anthony's troll various blogs and insert misleading and disruptive posts – looks like we have another incidence of that here. Too bad James, we know the truth and what you're saying is NOT IT. How dare you try to deflect the POWERFUL evidence against that monster in anyone's mind? She took her baby daughter, barely 2 years old, suffocated her to death with duct tape, let her rot in the trunk, then threw her away in a trash bag (when she couldn't stand the smell anymore) in the woods less than a MILE from her parent's house. You should be ashamed of yourself.

dianna@sbcglobal.net   November 2nd, 2009 4:32 pm ET

When I posted this morning about having received a response from the Sydney Theatre Company i had no idea then it is a form letter sent to people like me who had written to them asking them why they are going ahead with the production.

Since then, I am aware i am one of three people who got the exact same response. Here it is with only my name redacted. My comment from this AM is awaiting moderation still, so you can delete it if you wish. Whoever said crime does not pay was wrong, it darn sure pays for some.

Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding Tot Mom.

The script of Tot Mom has been drawn from material surrounding the case and deals principally with the intense media and public scrutiny surrounding this tragic event rather than focusing on the murder of Caylee Anthony.

The play does not in any way seek to sensationalise or profit from the murder of a child. On the contrary it seeks to hold up a mirror to our society that will raise ethical questions about the way in which such a case is dealt with in the public domain. We are interested to examine the process by which the case has become a story of national interest in the USA and the question of how justice operates in an environment where such a case has become a media phenomenon.

Sydney Theatre Company is a not for profit arts organisation and this production will not make a profit; we do not stand to make any financial gain from the presentation of Tot Mom. Steven Soderbergh will not be profiting from this project either. He is donating his fee to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Our interest in presenting the work has nothing to do with making money.

The play is essentially documentary in nature and is composed virtually exclusively of verbatim material using excerpts from transcripts of television shows, court documents and police reports.

This production is a one-off and will be only be seen in its Sydney season.

Regards

Sydney Theatre Company

jimboe   November 2nd, 2009 4:59 pm ET

They have no evidence. She didn't do it.

RS   November 2nd, 2009 5:00 pm ET

And here is my answer to the response from Sydney Theatre Company above, though I took great liberty in using one of Nancy Grace's expressions at end of it. i see now why she uses it, as it comes in VERY handy at times. i only redacted my name.

Directors Sydney Theatre Company,

I received a response to my having written the Directors Sydney Theatre pertaining to you putting on the play Tot Mom.

I do appreciate time was taken to offer up a response but let me assure you that it is blatantly obvious to me you have done a great job convincing yourselves of some merit behind the WHY behind what you are doing but it flat does not wash.

You cannot possibly be offering yourselves up as though taking a look at impact on justice when the case is a year or more before a jury is even selected. You could only speculate or assume, you have no reality based data to even go there yet. The case has an Imagi-Nanny or Phantom Nanny and seems now from your claim has Imagi-data or Phantom data on media impacting justice associated with it.

The issue of the director donating his fee: The director of that child based organization past made it very clear, and did so on Nancy Grace show, they do NOT accept any portion of any proceeds from commercial endeavors that are related to missing, or in this case, deceased children. It is possible he has changed his policy from that stated on Nancy Grace show related to a different commercial endeavor, but I personally doubt he has, or his organization has or will, though allow I could be wrong about that.

As for claiming this is documentary in nature: For this to be documentary in nature on any level, one would need to consider there are thousands of pages of police and court docs recently released within the past few weeks that likely are not covered at all, another couple thousand about to be released, so it is in my opinion best to future claim it a 'Halfumentary' a new form of "documentary" done before the final result about which the endeavor pertains.

In summary, in my opinion, what you are doing is at best premature, at it's worst, in extremely poor taste.

As to your claims that seem to defend what you believe you are doing, Nancy Grace has an expression she is known to use that I believe fits, you can put lipstick on a pig ( to try to dress it up as other than ) but it is still a pig.

I am so sick of the Dog and Pony show and the Anthony's making money and the Lawyers making money. It is time for Justice for Caylee, to me that is all that matters.

Bobby Jo   November 2nd, 2009 5:50 pm ET

I really hope that this doesn't happen. Why would you make a play out of this? The trial isn't even over yet. Let the family greive. I really hope that the family doesn't get any money from this either. This is a horrible way to celebrate a little girls life. It's like they are making a mockery of everything.

brenda   November 2nd, 2009 6:00 pm ET

To be honest, I really don't care if they do a movie, play, write a book, it all doesn't matter. I have been following the CA saga from the beginning, and to be honest I might be somewhat addicted to any news of the case. My only worry is, how on earth will they ever get an impartial jury?

I don't know about anyone else, but I think it is the absolut shock that there is a possibility that a mother could kill her daughter, and carry on living the party life. That is too much to grasp. Part of me hopes she is innocent, and the other part wants to have her linched.

Danielle   November 2nd, 2009 7:26 pm ET

Did anyone actually read this article? For so much outrage, there seems to be a complete and utter misunderstanding of what the play is about. The article states: "The play will center on none other than Nancy Grace and how her 'public crusade for justice for little Caylee transformed the case from a tragic story to a 24-hour news spectacle,' according to the Sydney Theater Web site."

That means–this isn't about Caylee or Casey Anthony or her parents as much as it's about Nancy Grace and how 24-hour cable news has changed the way we handle both investigations, news, and the inevitable spectacle that comes of it. Nancy Grace may not have wanted it to be a spectacle, but that's exactly what this entire case and cases like it become–the curiosity and vehement anger toward parents, the forum for viewers to air their very polarized stances that stem solely from a single source–TV.

People need to take a breath, calm down, and READ what's before them, not jump to conclusions. Like another comment states, I seriously doubt Soderbergh is going to make a dime on this show. He's probably going to LOSE money on it (which should make most of you happy). It seems to be more a story about the way in which MEDIA works in our day and age, using this case as its context because of its very spectacular nature.

Jenny   November 2nd, 2009 8:13 pm ET

Just because it says it will be about the media and nancy grace, doesn't mean exactly that. This will be about Casey the no good lying, murderous, tramp mother who killed her innocent child and didn't report anything till 31 days later, etc. etc. This film guy wouldn't bother to do a play about the media and nancy grace coverage. No one is interested in that, seriously!

I too hope the scamanthony's don't get a inkling of profit. These people are a disgrace to the human race! Believe me, they have shown their true character and would try to get money off of Caylee's death anyway they can!!!!

Danielle   November 2nd, 2009 9:33 pm ET

Indeed, Jenny, it doesn't necessarily mean that, but as someone who's been familiar with Soderbergh's work from his earliest days as a director, he doesn't do sensationalist, typical fare. He tackles political, timely issues and it's MUCH more likely he's making a play about the media than he is about Casey Anthony. People in America might not go and see it, but people in other countries are FASCINATED with our non-stop cable news and how our media works. This is playing for a couple of weeks in Australia, not hitting every theater near you in Midtown, USA.

I simply think the outrage about this is misplaced. The anger should be over the death of this little girl, which it mainly is, but what Soderbergh is doing isn't immoral and unconscionable. Of course I haven't seen it, nor read about it–since I'm not in Australia and it hasn't even played yet–but I really believe Soderbergh is making more of a commentary and perhaps even praising the way in which Grace handled this case to bring immediate and constant attention to this case. That–or making a statement about how 24-hour cable news functions and forms opinions in America. He won't be sensationalizing the case. He won't be sending benefits to the Casey Anthony Defense Fund.

The reactions to this post actually very much reflect the type of atmosphere our current news media environment has created in America–jump-to-the-gun conclusions and heated, opinionated outbursts rather than reflection and consideration on the material at hand and the careful reading of statements.

Christal   November 2nd, 2009 11:39 pm ET

I believe it would be a very good movie and book. How a human,a mother do that is unreal, but i believe it would be a very good book and movie i would read and watch the movie and my whole family would. they are very interrested in knowing what happens with this case. and if she gets life? I say eye for an eye. she should get what her daughter went through

Brady   November 2nd, 2009 11:39 pm ET

You guys are a hysterical lynch mob.

The theatre company in question is a not-for-profit company. The play is about the media frenzy surrounding the case – not the murder.

Steven Soderburgh is donating his fee.

You are embarrassing yourselves.

m   November 2nd, 2009 11:46 pm ET

The Anthony family needs to be put in its place. The mother is a money grubbing hag, the grandparents are so concerned with themselves and their opinions that Caylee came in far behind their egos, and tot-mom's brother is either hiding something or just hunting for his oen 15 minutes of fame. They are all pretty low on the food chain. So many couples would have loved and protected that little girl; it is a shame she could not have had real parents. She is in a better place. God and His angels will give her the love she did not get here.

c kesling   November 3rd, 2009 12:42 am ET

nancy, i'm so glad you have a blog.... i love it!!!!! how the heck else are all those HIGH PRICED LAWYERS supposed to get paid ???? i would like to imagine just for one moment "JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE".. THE HELL WITH CASEY.... she is a smooth liar, hopefully she will rot in hell.... no death penalty, that would be too kind for her.life in prison, and i hope she lives to be 100 years old !!!!! and be sure to put her in G.P. at least once a week, they will punish her for sure !!!!

Clayre   November 3rd, 2009 8:12 am ET

This is the most appalling, inane concept to be foisted upon consumers. Shame on everyone involved. it will only serve to further sensationalize this tragic family and defile Caylee's memory.

RS   November 3rd, 2009 9:45 am ET

Where did the very small flock of theatre company and Soderbergh apologists, or would that be excuse makers, come from all of a sudden?

Theatre company is not for profit is offered up as though that is significant and makes it ok to profit off the demise of a tiny little girl....so guess we are to pretend the actors are not paid from income generated, the producer, the set designers and builders are not paid, the director gets no fee. I could go on, but why bother.

It is not about the demise of Caylee is a claim. Really? All court and police documents, the absolute majority of media coverage is about what subject then? The murder of a tiny little girl.

On jumping to gun, gosh should read statements diatribe: Let's look at the statements. It is claimed it is documentary in nature, yet it cannot be, why that would be "jumping the gun" considering thousands upon thousands of pages of evidence are yet to be released. And the media coverage of those yet to be released evidence bits, will be missed and not included in the also claimed exam of media coverage; further, claim is looking at impact media has on justice, cannot be, no trial for a year plus into future, no way to gauge media impact on justice.

So just what does that leave? IMO it leaves a pack of very bored Australians as the hopeful target audience, so in need of any entertainment that they will pony up the 30 or 70 dollar Australian to have a chance of being entertained whilst throwing their decency in the garbage, just like little Caylee was thrown away like yard waste garbage in woods.

Perhaps Sydney Theatre Company should consider to change it's name to Emperor Theatre Company, and their motto, we don't mind making an ass of ourselves and it being obvious to others when we do.

He also may not be "praising Nancy Grace" , but showing that her show is the leading cable news program that has the most influence on "the court of public opinion". Obviously she does....as witnessed by all the posts in this blog.
But thanks for your rational take on all this. It is refreshing.

I can't believe the people making money on this tragedy. Casey is Guilty all evidence points to it. And if her lawyer the super duper trail lawyer that was hired isn't smart enough to see it, than she needs help too. When are they going to arrest George Cindy and Lee, they are guilty of obstruction and the fact that they are the only people in the entire investigation that hasn't had a polygraph test shows me they have something to hide.

Poor Caylee, she is being exploited by grandparents every time the do an interview. Casey is Living better in jail than all the other prisoners, maybe it they put her with the general population, she will talk real fast.

Teri   November 3rd, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Exactly what we need. To give more attention to this murdering wretch. SERIOUSLY! Whats one thing people search for their whole lives.... FAME and doing things like this gives it to them. Casey needs to get the death penalty. All Child killers and people that hurt children need to get the needle....... Children are innocent !!!! Pure!!! It is the adults in this world that bring the stories of monsters under the bed in the closet to our homes... For god sakes Stop blameing the parents... I know of several cases where the parents were loving and attentive parents and the children turned out to be losers.... They are old enough to make there own decisions...... Its just the facts of life....... Ask our Government.... Keep your children close and safe and watch what the view on t.v and video games and who their friends are and teach them right from wrong and be in their Business. Its ur job!!!

Hello To All

I hope this director has done ALL his homework regarding this case. I hope he is aware that Caylee Anthony was NEVER missing, she was murdered.
Even tho, everything points to the Mother Casey Anthony as the murderer, her family is still on the band wagon that Casey is innocent. The trouble I have with this is, if Mommy was not the person who murdered Caylee, then who did. It can't be Zanaida, that was proven. No one in Casey's family is looking for whoever killed Caylee. No one (and this includes law enforcement and FBI)has ever looked for anyone else. WHY? Oh and the hair from the trunk. This hair came from one of 2 Anthony females, one of which is deceased. Casey is alive and in jail. THOUGHTS?

Thanks for Listening

They have made movies about all the big news killers and you can bet there will be one here in the US So I am suprised a bit by the reaction to this There are movies about killers, child abductions and this is big news there was already a story made around it on Law and Order CI I think I watched it just because it was around this story and it was the biggest waste of an hour I had , had in a while. But don't be suprised when the big movie comes out here cause you can bet there will be. I just hope it is a truthful one and I too hope Casey gets nothing from it (she can't as long as she is found guilty) But the parents are another thing they can benefit from it. It is easy for everyone to say what everyone is saying but WE don't know what we would do IF we were in George and Cindy's shoes. God help us if it were one of our children (Casey) My biggest beef is they should of done something about her (Casey) before it came to this. Stealing from her grandparents Maybe things would be different today if she would of spent time in jail before, But I thank God I am not in their shoe's. I only hope the truth comes out (whatever or whoever is involved in this tragedy) May justice prevail and any and all be punished for their crime. Also the defense team is doing their jobs they can't come out and say She is Guilty, wouldn't be much of a defense team or a justice system. I would not want to be a defense attorney in this case that is for sure. RIP Caylee, you were an angel on earth and now you have your wings in Heaven.

Watcher   November 4th, 2009 8:25 pm ET

Please, people you are all over reacting. There is no movie. It is a stage play in another country. AND like I stated before, there is already a book out on this subject and nobody even know it or seems to care.

mike   November 4th, 2009 9:33 pm ET

casey is innocent and beautiful. i hope they catch the real killer soon

Melissa   November 4th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

This poor child continues to be exploited... I was on a website two days ago and an advertisement popped up using Caylee's picture. The premise of the ad was to take a photo and "age" it to "see how you would look when you're older"... are you kidding me!!! How inhuman can you be...? http://www.look-old.com/931.html... Nancy PLEASE do something to get this removed!!! You seem to be only voice for Caylee anymore.

Paula Chemello   November 4th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I THINK THAT casey is one sick girl when i found out what she did to that little girl i cryed like a little baby, Caylee is a beautiful little girl she did not deserve the torture she went through , as far as im concerned i hope justice will be served Casey deserves to rott in hell .

jenniFer   November 4th, 2009 11:41 pm ET

this girl here is NUT CASE...SH

jennifer clearwater,fla   November 4th, 2009 11:51 pm ET

i personally think that this girl is a sicko and what she did, that precious baby needs justice and instead of lethal ingections we need to start up ol'sparky and let her behind fry...how could you kill your own..and the sick part of all this casey loves the attention..im down for plugging in the chair...that girl has serious issues...

Chyna   November 5th, 2009 11:30 am ET

this mother is sick. why cant she just admit she killed her beautiful daughter. she truley is horrible. now shes overdoing it with the money and all the attention. just enough put her in jail and keep her there!

ATTN: All Nancy Grace fans interested in the Casey Anthony case. I have found a SHOCKING picture that D&A Investigations ( Dominic Casey) sent to Cindy Anthony asking her to show it to Casey for ident. purposes for Zanida. It will knock your socks off!! He marked it Client Privleged and Confidential.

go to: http://www.wftv.com
search within their site for: Casey Anthony
go to the left under : Documents released 09/29/09
go to: Hundreds of Pages From Private Eye (click on that)
Scroll down to documents (hand written numberslower left corner) 8028 & 8029 (an email to Cindy from Dominic including a picture of a woman named Zanida. Casey looks just like her and she is wearing an American flag to boot! I think this is the woman Casey found while doing her web searches back in May BEFORE Caylee went missing – neck breaking – Zani ect. . PS – The Anthony family has never released this photo to the media because it prooves that Casey planned this whole thing in advance.

Brenda Bryant   November 5th, 2009 5:50 pm ET

How can anyone say that little Caylee was a missing child? Her mother (the murderer) knew where she was all along. I hope and pray that justice prevails and she is found GUILTY and they give her the DEATH PENALTY. Casey deserves no less than that. DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The whole family is CRAZY and I hope they don't get any money also. I wish they would let that poor baby RIP.

Jane   November 5th, 2009 8:19 pm ET

I think people need to read more of the comments about this. The production is more about Nancy Grace than Casey Anthony and how these sort of things are exposed to us all through the media.
No one out of the Anthony family is going to profit from this any money made is being donated to a charity.
I would say alot of you that are protesting would more than likely go to a movie if and when one is made, and for those of you that have a problem with us here in Aussie look to your own back yard its your media that is having a field day with this not ours, in fact I have a rather large circle of friends and work mates that don't even know about the case.
I just hope at the end of all of this that Casey does get the death penalty as theres is no greater crime than that against a child.

Please post a link to the exact page you are trying to direct us to because I could not find anything about "Documents released 9/29/09", or "Hundreds of pages from Private Eye", following the path you directed us to follow. Please find the page and give us a link to it. thank you

Jason Owens   November 6th, 2009 6:30 am ET

Ok. So I feel i need to leave a response here. I will never ever reveal my identity and i will only post here once. There are several things that need to be cleared up, especially since the official “media response” is so limiting.

1) NO ONE, AND I REPEAT NO ONE IS PROFITING FROM THIS.

2) The ‘take’ on this is about the media sensationalism of a tragic story and how we, as consumers, lap it up and want and expect more, even though only a small percentage of the “FACTS” that are presented have even got close to the justice system.

3) Steven Soderbergh is donating his ENTIRE fee to a children’s charity.

4) The theatre company producing the show is a NOT FOR PROFIT company.

5) The theatre company producing the show HAS NO AFFILIATION OR RELATIONSHIP WHATSOEVER to any of the people involved in the case.

6) The theatre company producing the show WILL LOSE MONEY ON IT.

7) All of the material in the script is VERBATIM from public record and rights exclusively given by CNN. Every single word spoken by every single actor in every single second of the script is VERBATIM from public record and CNN broadcasts. No artistic licence whatsoever has been taken with ANY of the dialogue. To do so would violate the copywright permission that has been granted.

8) Do not pass judgement or offer opinions on a presentation/performance that hasn’t even been staged yet. Wait until it opens, come and see it and then make an opinion. To make a completely ill informed and totally inaccurate statement based on media reports that have scant basis in reality only inflames the exact topic this play is seeking to expose and offer up for public debate.

9) Be an INFORMED and RESPONSIBLE member of the global community, not a knee jerk reactor to it.

10) That is all.

the deposition where cindy told the ( other) zenida your cute but not a 10? this pic of the ( yet other) zany in a flag IS a pretty woman...yup casey did ALOT of planning and web research....

mike and james mcintrye= sorry but you MUST be deluded..please tell me your not sending good ol case $ so she can stuff her face w/ commisary goodies......

M.Rose   November 6th, 2009 11:43 am ET

To Heather,
I finally gained access to the photos you mentioned as coming from Dominic Casey in an email to Cindy Anthony. It looks to me like a picture of Casey (not "Zeneida) as Dominic Casey suggests) dressed in a flag that was taken off the Internet when pics were posted online of the parties that Casey went to where she was dressed in an American flag. The Casey family had no reason to post this picture because it supposedly "proves" Casey "found it, while doing her web searches before Casey went missing" while she supposedly did searches online for "Zani". It may have been on this "Zeneida" website also shown in the emails, but it IS CASEY, and not supposed to be Zeneida herself. It is NOT Zeneida. Who knows where Dominic Casey found it. Your "theory" doesn't fly.

Lisa   November 6th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

what is an outrage is that Casey's parents are not asking the important questions. Like- what would be the motive for a Zanny the nanny to kidnap the baby, and, if there is a baby sitter, why doesn't parents of other children she has babysit come forward and say "yeah we know Zanny the nanny."

RS   November 6th, 2009 6:51 pm ET

This is in response to that "global community" spokesperson Jason Owens post above...I'll address it by numbered offerings above.

1) NO ONE, AND I REPEAT NO ONE IS PROFITING FROM THIS.

( so the actors are not getting paid, the set designers and builders are not getting paid, there is no money for a directors fee in order to take that income or profit and donate it...as Nancy Grace might say, BS. People are making a profit or income out of their association with this.)

2) The ‘take’ on this is about the media sensationalism of a tragic story and how we, as consumers, lap it up and want and expect more, even though only a small percentage of the “FACTS” that are presented have even got close to the justice system.

( so then you are sensationalizing a sensationalizing of something, what's next after media coverage of tragedies and crimes, some movie director or producer putting their spin on things..oh wait that is present in this isn't it. )

3)Steven Soderbergh is donating his ENTIRE fee to a children’s charity.

( How big of him, so then he is one who did profit but took his profit and chose to donate that profit..see number 1 above about nobody to profit. )

6) The theatre company producing the show WILL LOSE MONEY ON IT.

( They will lose far more than money, they will lose integrity as well IMO and likely a few financial supporters. Also not smart business IMO to carry on with something when you know before you do it is a loser )

( so you are providing another opportunity to - see number 2 above-lap it up -–already hashed over info, since you insist you will verbatim parrot what has been said in the media and from public documents carried in the media as well. And missing for the lapper uppers will be info within thousands upon thousands of pages of evidence content and the media reports on that, so a rehash and Halfumentary take is what you are offering the lapper uppers.)

( It appears two faced of you to lecture on passing judgement whilst whining over those you feel have from a basis of being ill informed. On the subject of ill informed, ask them to at least get the month accurate Caylee was reported missing, they clearly are ill informed presently. )

9) Be an INFORMED and RESPONSIBLE member of the global community, not a knee jerk reactor to it.

( take your own advice and in a hurry, and I suggest reread number 8 above as though you need to be lectured on the subject. )

Donna Pasternak   November 7th, 2009 2:57 am ET

I still believe that the tatoo that Casey got is her death sentence. Cause it spells out to ME.....that a mother who truley loves her daughter would in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, be thinking of getting a tattoo of anykind when she is so deathly worried about where her daughter is, and to put the icing on the cake get a tattoo with the words, Bella Vista!!!! The good life, or beautiful life....which ever, WHO IN THEIR right mind could be thinking that ANYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL OR GOOD when their little girl is missing and could possibly be dead ??? To me, that just proves that Casey was NO GRIEVING MOTHER or a mother at all who was worried about the where abouts of her daughter. She knew exactly where her daughter was and that was dead.........in a garbage bag and thrown alongside the road like trash. In casey's mind, the life for her was now about to happen, now that she had killed little Caylee and all she could think of was going out, partying and simply thinking of herself. And if we find out that George and Cindy JUST RECENTLY got a tattoo thinking that this is going to perswade us all into believing that seeee,,,anyone can get a tattoo and it dosen't mean their a killer, but BULLLLLL, Casey got hers at the WRONG TIME, THE WORST TIME AND TO PUT THE ICING ON THE CAKE, HAD HER DEATH SENTENCE SPELLED OUT ON HER BODY.........THE GOOD LIFE, OR BEAUTIFUL LIFE. Casey's tattoo is her ticket to meet her maker. Case closed, end of story for me, not to mention the ton of evidence that they have on her, especially her car and the web searches. To me, this has been a done deal since the first time casey came up with this whole zanny the nanny bit and lying repeatedly to the police and saying the bit about ohh I can't say anymore about anything cause I'm protecting my family!!!!!!!! What a crock. She simply was just using that as an excuse so she WOULDNT have to say anything more, because her scheme wasent working for her. I just hope and pray that Justice will Prevail here and casey gets whats coming to her, little caylee didn't deserve to die the way she did at her own mothers so called loving hands. I hope this case dosen't somehow turn out the way that O.J.'s did, where he got away with murder. Quote,: If the glove don't fit, you must aquit"................what a crock that was. How come no one ever questioned why that glove didnt fit ?? This was a black-leather glove, and true leather, I dont' think OJ. had a fake pair of look alike leather gloves, so these were REAL LEATHER GLOVES. Well what happens to leather when it gets SOAKED ????? It shrinks right ??? Well with allllllll the blood that was soaked up in those gloves, did anybody really think that those gloves were going to fit him. Of course not, they would shrink by a good size or two, no wonder OJ wasen't worried about <<<>>>> to slip his big hand into them gloves, he knew as well as me those gloves weren't going to fit, so if the glove dont' fit, you must aquit...........what a joke that was. 2 people brutally murdered and he gets away with it. That still makes me sick to this day. I just hope and pray that I don't witness this again in a different light in poor little Caylees case, god rest her little soul.

Donna Pasternak   November 7th, 2009 3:15 am ET

I'm SO HAPPY that we're finally getting to see more of the evidence!! I feel like we had enough evidence before this but now all this just confirms it all even more on just how guilty Casey is. And this tattoo bit with George and Cindy now??? I can't wait to find out exactly when they got their tattoos. For some reason I don't feel like George and Cindy are the tattoo type of people, whatever that may be, but I mean they just don't seem like the type of people who would have tattoos. But I'm feeling like they got these tattoos because they know as well as I do that Casey's tattoo episode was A BAD MOVE ON HER PART, especailly at a time where she was suppose to be worrying about her DAUGHTERS LIFE, not about hmmmm, I need a new tattoo becuase my life is SO PERFECT NOW....NOW THAT MY DAUGHTER IS MISSING ????????????? Come on, that was a bad move and I think george and cindy are trying to show us all that hey a tattoo dosen't mean anything bad, which it dosent, butttttttttt Casey got the WRONG TATTOO........AT THE WRONG TIME IN HER LIFE, like I said before, her tattoo is her ticket to meet her maker. One more piece of evidence that smart ol'casey didnt give much thought to. And I'd like to see her explain THAT AWAY, or try to cover it up. I don't have any tattoo's, nor do I want any at the age of 50 here, but I'll say one thing, that I thought I'd never say, Thank god for Tattoo Artists, cause I think that has helped sealed Casey's faith. Oh well Casey, BELLA VISTA !

M.Rose   November 7th, 2009 9:17 am ET

"C" wrote the following, saying that "M.Rose" "nailed it":
"the deposition where cindy told the ( other) zenida your cute but not a 10? this pic of the ( yet other) zany in a flag IS a pretty woman...yup casey did ALOT of planning and web research...."

"C's" response to that was the following:
the deposition where cindy told the ( other) zenida your cute but not a 10? this pic of the ( yet other) zany in a flag IS a pretty woman...yup casey did ALOT of planning and web research...."

Then "C" misquotes "M.Rose" as being the poster who said it.
First of all, "M.Rose" was not the author of the comment you quote, it was "Heather". Secondly, please read the actual full post by "M.Rose" to see that I DID NAIL IT. The picture is of Casey herself, not Zeneida. It was taken at the parties she attended after Casey went missing and photos of her dressed in a flag, at a party, were all over the Internet. You are apparently suggesting that is the picture of "Zany" that Cindy talked about in the deposition and you have no way of knowing that. ...unless she never actually showed the picture to anyone and just made reference to it in the deposition as being a picture of "Zany" she had in her possession who was a "10". I wouldn't put THAT past Cindy.....but Cindy is not stupid either. She may be unlikable, but not stupid.) The picture is obviously of Casey herself. The photo does look doctored up, however. Are you saying that Casey actually doctored up a photo of herself to try to make others believe it was this Zany woman, when it is obviously of Casey herself? Makes no sense!

RS   November 7th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

For Nancy Grace attention:

Please take a closer look at the evidence released yesterday.

It is bad enough there is some lethal cocktail at body scene complete with syringe as reported on last night's show.

But look very closely at discovery page 11481 last entry..liquid from her CAR

Then follow that item numbered 241 through it's forensic analysis paces on page 11553 and you see she had also mixed a lethal cocktail that was found in her car.

So you have a mixed batch of lethal chemicals at body scene and you have a mixed batch of lethal chemicals in her car....that indicates she liked playing chemist and mixing things together that would be deadly if consumed or injected.

The car liquids are deadly, the body scene chemicals are deadly...

Let's see a defense attorney spin that body scene and car connected deadly poisonous rabbit out of a hat.

Heather   November 8th, 2009 3:30 pm ET

M Rose, I disagree with you for the following reasons:

1) They are two different flags – it is not the same flag as Casey Anthony Party Costume. The email photo has a white border around the American Flag- The Casey Anthony Costume American Flag does not have any border at all.

2) I agaree that the Dominik photo does look like Casey but it is not. Casey Anthony has moles and spots on her neck (see any mug shot) this photo from the email lady does not – her skin is mole and spot free. Casey Anthony also looks like Juliette Lewis but that is not her either.

3) Casey Anthony has a very slight cleft in her chin. The email photo lady does not. (See any mug shot)

4) Casey Anthony has a very high arch to her eyebrows and her eyes are angled upward – if you look at Casey Anthony s eyes on the outsides – you can see they angle upwards. The email photo lady has eyes that are straight side to side- not angled up at all – and her eye browes are not arched at all. (but a person can style their eyebrows any way up down straight)

5) I think that Casey found this photo (created or not) while she was doing her web searches before Caylee went missing and used the flag as a dress idea – later at the party. I am sure the police are aware of when the Zani the flag wearer posted this picture and the police are able to see if it was part of Casey s searches before Caylee went missing. If it shows Casey computer had the Zani in a flag adress on it in May or the web address in the memory of the site that contains the Zani in a falg- it would be another nail in her case.

M Rose – you may have a point though because with all the tricks that people can do on the computers these days – it may just be a picture that was created – but I do not think that the email photo is Casey Anthony at all – they look basicly the same but they are not. I think Casey Anthony saw this photo prior – but the police can sort that out with their comper guys – they can tell. – They have been sent the info.

M Rose – in your comment -Yet another Zani in a flag- I did not realize there are other photos like this one – a Zani in a flag – floating around. Man oh man.

M Rose – I would be interested in your thoughts on all this new stuff that just came out – what are your thoughts on it...

Also, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to follow all the instructions – it took me forever to figure out how to get you to see what I was seeing.

Respectfully,

Heather

Diane   November 9th, 2009 6:08 pm ET

Since, it seems, all Casey's party pics are suggestive poses with other girls, could the testosterone be Casey's or one of her gal-pal's in preparation for gender reassignment?
Also could the 3 substances in the syringe be a "sure-bet" lethal cocktail for little Caylee?

Nancy Carter   November 10th, 2009 8:32 pm ET

When is this evil mother going to trial? the sooner the better. Lets get people like her out of society and the party scene. They should put her so far back in jail they would have to pump sunlight to her

Breanne   November 11th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

I HATE this woman with every fiber in my body!! What I wouldnt give to be alone with her in a room for 5 minutes!! I have a little girl myself that was around Caylee's age and this whole situation really got to me. I could never imagine hurting my Angel. She looks to me for protection and comfort just like Caylee did with Casey and that monster hurt her. The one person in this entire world that that little girl should never have had to fear hurt her!! It just makes me sick!
Torture should be legal for people that hurt our children! They trust us to protect them and love them and there are these scumbag people out there that betray that trust and abuse, molest, and kill them. I am sorry but a person like that deserves to be tortured in the same way they tortured that child, they need to be made to feel that same fear that that child felt when it was being hurt. To me there is no such thing as rehabilitation for people like that. We need to start protecting our children and standing up for them and making this world a safer place for them to grow up in. They didnt ask to be born, we brought them into this world and it is our job to make sure they are safe while they grow up in it!! Casey Anthony is a monster and she really really needs to be taught a lesson. I personally dont think she should get the death penalty, give her life without parole and put her in population, none of this solitary cell crap. Put her in with the rest of the women and let them take care of her, let them beat and rape her and make her feel fear just like that baby did!!! Despite the fact that she would be going straight to hell I still think death would be the easy way out for her, she needs to suffer for the rest of her pathetic life on this earth and then suffer even more for an eternity in hell!!!

Amanda Huggginkis   December 10th, 2009 11:14 pm ET

You go Casey, you showed 'em good!

Real good.

B   December 11th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

1 year ago today -

The scattered skelton of little Caylee Anthony was found in a pile of garbage- nothing left of 2 year old (murdered before her 3 rd birthday) Caylee Marie Anthony, just some animal chewed bones, a skull with duct tape across the mouth opening, torn shirt, torn shorts, and bottle with a death needle in it.

1 hour ago today -

The killer birth giver (not a mother) sat in a court room pretending to cry – feeling sorry for herself that the jig is up. We all know what you did to Caylee Marie Anthony. The whole PLANET KNOWS!

Attn: Jose – a motive and manner of death are not needed to seek the dealth penelty – constitutional issue? I think not – remember the Lacey Peterson case, Jose? We do not know why or how Lacey died, but Scott Peterson is sitting his killing butt on death row right now.

Jose – try tuning into the Nancy Grace show once in a while and you might learn a little about the laws.

I know you watched her show when you first started this case with Casey Anthony. Nancy would say on her show each night, Jose did not file this or that motion -then BANG the next day – you would go out and file the motion Nancy Grace spoke of.

Are you learning the law throught a tv show? I guess that will be your grounds for the appeal? An inept lawyer.....

Another telling sign was that you (Jose) called in Dr. Henry Lee to go through the crime site and it had not even been determind that it was Caylee yet! Your actions tell me that you knew that it was little Caylee – JOSE HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT?

Last note for Jose: You are waisting tax payer's money with all your stupid requests – ie – no video in the room when you meet with Casey Anthony – it is there for staff security, prisoners security – and to make sure you stop touching your client. BOZO

Brenda Bryant   December 14th, 2009 8:40 pm ET

Anybody with half a brain knows that there is more going on with Jose and Casey than just attorney and client. Do they think that we are all blind and stupid?

Josh   December 18th, 2009 7:13 am ET

Brady & Danielle, I agree with your posts

KB   December 22nd, 2009 7:42 am ET

Nancy, why have you stopped reporting on Caylee Anthony?

arlene misiewicz   December 23rd, 2009 10:51 am ET

Nancy PLEASE give us an update on this case! I still beleive the parents should have Casey tell what really happened to Caylee and hope the court will show her some mercy unlike her with Caylee. Mom and dad know the truth!! Please stand up and fight for your granddaughter!!! Someone need to!!!!!

Mike   December 30th, 2009 12:11 am ET

I just saw the play last night "Tot Mom" in Sydney which Stephen Soderbergh has written and directed and it was very good. Nancy Grace and this case are not known down here in Australia so it did make quite a interesting story to watch – in fact as soon as I got home a googled for more on the case.

Quite a fan of Nancy Grace now I must say!

Also have to say it was quite funny at first listening to Aussie actor doing Nancy Grace...I thought the accent was a joke at first.....that was until I actually listened to the real Nancy Grace....she hit it dead on!

Marion   January 6th, 2010 3:19 pm ET

Thanks for the update, Mike

So tell us how Nancy Grace was portrayed in the play and give details on the play itself, if you would. How did Soderbergh portray how the media is handling the case, etc.?. Please tell us something about it. Thanks

To Arlene:
My take on the parents is that they simply believe what Casey told them about it all and have no other knowledge of what actually happened, and Casey told them exactly what we have heard on the news. . They just don't believe their daughter did it.....Why would they have any more info than what the daughter told them? In my opinion, they know nothing more than we know and Casey just told them the same story she gave police investigators. You don't really believe Casey would actually admit to her parents that she killed thier grandchild do you? I really don't believe they would be still supporting Casey if she had admitted murdering Caylee.

I saw the play last week in Sydney. As Mike said, the case is not really known in Australia so the story, as it has unfolded so far, is quite compelling. This is not a police 'procedural' drama, rather, it is the media and it’s handling of the story that is in the spotlight. The script is made up of transcripts of interviews Nancy Grace conducted on her show over the whole period – from breaking the story to now. Soderbergh made what I think was a good decision to keep the two central characters physically off stage. Grace appears throughout on huge video screens suspended over the stage as if she is some omnipresent being. Casey Anthony is represented by (her real) voice recordings of telephone calls, interviews etc.

Essie Davis is superb as the ever-watching (and very watchable) ring-master Grace, snapping at those who don't agree with her and soft-soaping those who do (Davis is filmed live from a 'studio' offstage). Her performance is very truthful and even-handed, never falling into caricature. The rest of the cast are almost always on stage, sitting in a row, only moving forward when they become one of the many characters who have appeared on the Grace’s show with an opinion or news report (and absolutely everyone has an opinion). At the front of the stage is a small patch of swampy grass, where the garbage bag with Caylee's remains was found (this moment was one of the few 'scenes' and was very sensitively done).

The play is not a condemnation of either Grace or Anthony, but shows how the story of Caylee's murder fuels first the show then takes on a life of its own. At first, Grace is the professional – concerned, shocked and keen to understand more, but as time goes by, the transcripts reveal her settling into a definite opinion about who killed Caylee. And she's not afraid to voice that opinion. Anyone who disagrees is given short shrift, while those who buy into her point of view are charmed and flattered.

In the last section of the play, Caylee's case is taken over by two other cases involving child murders. Perhaps this is to show that for a time, the circus was in town, but now it’s moving on. This is not a groundbreaking work, but it certainly is compelling. Using only transcripts gives the production a documentary feel, and, while Nancy Grace looms over the proceedings, it is Caylee, in her sad little swamp, that is the true heart of the production. I’ll certainly watch what happens when the case finally comes to trial. By the way, according to the STC website, "Steven Soderbergh is donating his fees for Tot Mom to the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the Sydney Theatre Company will make no profit from this production."
