Portrait of a killer?

Posted: 05:56 PM ET

As the wait continues for the November 18 certification hearing for the teen suspect accused of murdering Elizabeth Olten, we are learning more about this teen girl suspect through alleged social networking websites and online profiles.

Elizabeth Olten
Elizabeth Olten

The teen girl suspect has an alleged YouTube page where a profile is listed and a number of videos are posted. One of the subjects under the profile is hobbies. The hobbies listed on the teen girl suspect’s alleged page? The words “cutting” and “killing people”. Also on the page are a couple of homemade videos that are equally disturbing, including a video allegedly showing the teen suspect getting shocked by an electric fence, and laughing about it! It has not been confirmed that this is the teen suspect’s YouTube page, and the last time the user of that page logged onto the website was a year ago.

First there’s YouTube, then there’s twitter.

The teen suspect’s alleged twitter page was found, and although the postings have since been deleted, we have learned some of what was allegedly posted on that twitter page. Some of the discussions on the twitter page included talk of “addiction”, and “terrors”. We do not know for sure if this is the teen girl suspect’s twitter page, but if it is, it paints a scary portrait of a girl accused of premeditated first degree murder in the slaying of 9 year old Elizabeth Olten. It has not yet been determined if the teen will ultimately be tried in adult court – that decision is upcoming…the certification hearing just weeks away.

WHAT IS WRONG WHIS THIS KIDS PARENTS, HOW COME THERE NOT ON TRACK WITH WHAT EVER THERE KIDS ARE DOING. IS CRAZY THAT A 15 YEAR OLD GIRL CAN DO SUCH OF NASTY AND DISTURVING ACTION TO HER "FRIEND" . IT MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMATCH THAT ALL OF THIS THINGS ARE HAPPENING ARROUND US. I HAVE A 13 YEAR OLD A 9 YEAR OLD AND A 7 YEAR OLD AND IM EVEN SCARE TO LET THEM GO PLAY IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE... WHAT IS THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT DOING TO PREVENT ALL OF THIS... TOO MANY KIDS BEEN MISSING AND BEEN KILL. IS TOO MUCH ALREADY.

Noreen   November 2nd, 2009 8:38 pm ET

Any 15 year old who is capable of murder and then hding the body should be charged as an adult and never let out to do this again. There is no rehabilition that is successful. Let us remember the life of the 9 year old that did not ask for this to happen which has been cut cruely short.

jill   November 2nd, 2009 8:40 pm ET

Nancy:

Thank you so much for continuing to keep Elizabeth Olten in the news.

This innocent child deserves justice!

Please do not allow the Cole County authorities to sweep this under the rug.

Derva   November 2nd, 2009 8:40 pm ET

She had better be tried as an adult. She better not get a slap on the wrist and released from juvi at age 18. A lot of people will be super angry and waiting for her. Elizabeth Olten didn't get a slap on the wrist-no. And she won't be coming home at all, so this killer, Alyssa Bustamante, better not be coming home either.

Noreen   November 2nd, 2009 8:40 pm ET

Why is the local media not covering this what so ever? How are the local high school kids doing with this as well the death of a teacher all in one week? The community is the victim and the media are not allowing them to heal by not covering the story in Jefferson City. God Bless Nancy for remembering Elizabeth.

Fanny   November 2nd, 2009 8:41 pm ET

I hope you stay on this case, because it seems the authorities and the powers-that-be in Jefferson City are doing everything in their power to cover up this crime. The local media are doing a poor job of covering this story, and would not use their live-stream capacities at one station to even cover the funeral that was open to the public. There is national interest for this story, but no one is covering it. Do what you do best and keep on this, please.

Jan_In_Tx   November 2nd, 2009 8:44 pm ET

Nancy, it's amazing what all you can find out about these kids just by doing a google search. There are kids using social networking sites and their parents have NO idea what is going on. It is very sad, and disturbing. PLEASE keep this story in the news to make everyone aware...PARENTS PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR KID'S ONLINE ACTIVITIES!!

RIP Sweet Elizabeth...

Michele Green   November 2nd, 2009 9:18 pm ET

What is happening to our world? Are innocent children are dying for know reason this pisses me off. God bless the family!

jim grisham   November 2nd, 2009 9:25 pm ET

We seem to live in a sad world when i was a kid i don't remember any body at age 15 killing anyone I am sure it happened but when i was younger it was a much simpler life and a world unlike today where we live in a much faster world.Maybe our kids today are living in a world where they think there is no Justus.Kids today with the video games think life has a reset button. Who's fault is this is it our fault with work and life and such? What are we as parents teaching our children? if she did do this then she should have to pay the price of life in prison no parole!

Kenn Everett   November 2nd, 2009 9:32 pm ET

Hey I have been watching your coverage for days and regret that I have been confused about the Elizabeth Olsen coverage. Nowhere in your thourough coverage about this coverage of this crime do you identify the beautiful little girl on such. I can not tell the difference between a 9yr old and a 15 yr old and for nearly a week I have thought that those pictures were of the 15 year old perp... I am embarassed to admit but not once in my viewing was that made clear. I get it now after going to your website, please be more clear for us visually challenged. Thanks...Love Ya!

Karen Kirby   November 2nd, 2009 9:35 pm ET

I have been researching this case for days. I read that this 15 year old girl who killed Elizabeth Olten has been in state custody and was suicidal and homicidal and was released to her grandparents. Is there truth in this? It is not a new revelation about her state of mind. Thank you,

Julie M   November 2nd, 2009 9:35 pm ET

This story is so disturbing that I can hardly describe what I'm feeling. I agree with Nancy, we need to put this sick 15-year old girl away ... never mind that she is product of her environment, that is a very, very secondary unfortunate fact (just like Casey Anthony). She should be tried as an Adult and in no way be released at age 21. She obviously has completely "clueless" parents ... just like many people that don't pay attention to their kids ... the kids do whatever they want and actually get away with most of their dirty little deeds. I even broke off a relationship with a nice man, because he has a daughter that is so emotionally disturbed that she was one of the reasons for our break up. I could actually envision (in the future) something really terrible happening. So sad. Wake Up American Parents!!! ... Pay Attention To Your Kids ... Take Good Care of Them ... Love Them and Show them Right from Wrong!!!!!

mike   November 2nd, 2009 9:39 pm ET

As a father of two, I could not imagine not knowing what my kids are posting on the internet. This is a problem that needs attention, and not to be looked over. If one kid could do a crime another will try, unless our justice system slap's sum down right good justice down! So please keep the up with the case so it will bring more attention to the parents of young children.

Leslie   November 2nd, 2009 9:44 pm ET

One thing that I must say is how tired I am of hearing "where were her parents!" I am sorry but if anyone thinks that they know exactly what their children are doing at every moment of every day – they are fooling themselves. Many "good" parents who do all the right things may end up with devistation.
The murder of this poor little girl is a tragedy and heartbreaking. What would bring justice? – nothing.
The 15 yo is obviously a very ill little girl – her past DOES matter, how she does at school DOES matter, If she is mentally ill DOES matter and so on. I am sure that this 15 yo did not ask to be born with this sickness (which she clearly has) – there are two victims here. We are so stuck on insanity – what about just plain mental illness (not simply depression but severe)? These individuals do not have normal thoughts and normal tendencies. A severly mentally ill individual can be very dangerous – what does society do about this? Many are not insane but very ill and many of these are the individuals who snap and murder. Nothing is done until it is too late.
I do not feel that this 15 yo should not be prosecuted however, @ 15 her mind does not function as an adult (look up brain development).
She is sick and a murderer but she is not an adult and should not be tried as one.
Anyone who does not look at the entire picture including BOTH girls is ignorant and simple minded.

Jenna   November 2nd, 2009 9:46 pm ET

You asked what I feel to be a shocking question, especially coming from you. 'Why do I need to know about this girl's past, why do I care?". We ALL need to know more about this twisted girl and why she became so dark and lethal so that we can STOP it from ever happening again, so that we can recognize these signs and stop them from "evolving" the way they always seem to. We ALL need to care about that. That having been said, thank you for doing what you do, being who you are. The world is better for it.

Kandie Rosales   November 2nd, 2009 9:48 pm ET

First, thank you, Nancy for not being afraid to question these all-knowing lawyers and shrinks and for standing up for truth. Your heart hasn't been hardened. Your hurt comes across through your tears as we've seen many times. I am a recovering heroin addict who used drugs for 18 years and has been clean the last 14. I was a snake and my life revolved around low-life. I thought I'd seen it all. Now, I myself am at a loss for words at how profoundly ugly the world has become. I never reailized how many sicko's there are running around and the wimps out there afraid to call police when someone's being hurt. You're a gutsey lady Nancy. Never forget; there are hundreds of thousands out here who stand with you.

Mary   November 2nd, 2009 9:53 pm ET

How many more children are going to have to die by the hands of somone who just doesn't care. No matter how old the killer is they need to be treated as an adult. The girl wants to murder someone she needs to be tried as an adult. Some of these lawyers who act like they want to get to her school her hobbies. Come on SHE's a killer she needs to be put away for a lifetime.
My prayers go out to the family, keep all your beautiful memories close to your heart.

jessica   November 2nd, 2009 10:28 pm ET

this is just sad 15 years old taking the life of a 9 year old girl wow, and to think your playmates u let around your children are to be trusted

Robin   November 2nd, 2009 10:35 pm ET

This is so extremely disturbing to me to hear of this children that have such violent and evil minds and are capable of such horrific crimes like this one. I think that in this day and time with the increase of child violence that these kids that commit such horrible acts of anger and rage and murder, then they need to be punished as adults and be stopped before they can grow up into adulthood to commit much these acts over again. This is sad for this girl to be convicted as a murderer at such a young age but then again she did commit the crime at such a young age and this other child ( the victim ) lost her life because this teen, her so called friend had problems that weren't fixed in time or maybe not found in time. Parents PLEASE pay attention to what your kids are doing, pry into their lives and be bold about stopping secrets. Internet usage needs to be checked by parents to see who their kids are talking to and what they are talking about. Kids don't need so much privacy !!!!

MS. GERMAINE   November 2nd, 2009 10:41 pm ET

MS NANCY, I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY ARE, ALL THIS LITTLE CHILDREN COMING UP MISSING ALL OVER THE STATE OF FLORIDA!!! IF IT WAS ME AND MY CHILDREN I WOULD MOVE COMPLETE AWAY FROM THIS STATE. ITS NOT THE SUNSHINE STATE IT IS NOW THE MISSING CHILDREN STATE!!!!!

Jessica   November 2nd, 2009 10:58 pm ET

My question would be what the hell is any parent in their right mind.. letting a 9 year old hang out at a 15 year olds house. That is rediculious. I would never let my daughter hang out with someone that much older than her!! its one thing if it is a sibling its another when its just some other kid!!!! I feel bad that something happend to her but this should be an eye opener for other people to keep a better eye on your children. Be wiser about what you allow them to do.

Dorothy Hawkins   November 2nd, 2009 11:19 pm ET

This is truly a sad commentary. What is the world coming to when 15 year olds are murderers. This is one of the saddest acts of cruelty. Where are the parents and what kind of values are people teaching their children. She needs to be tried as an adult for committing this crime. If I were a juror, I would love to see her get the death penalty

Marsha   November 2nd, 2009 11:22 pm ET

This is so disturbing. So many questions regarding where the parents were in checking online contents. And as much as we would like to blame the parents, we have to really lay blame where blame is due, and that is on that 15 yr old.
I hope Elizabeth is resting in peace, but I do hope that her spirit is haunting her killer!

Melinda   November 2nd, 2009 11:24 pm ET

My heart goes out to this beautiful little girls family and friends. I pray the evil one who committed this crime will be punished to the fullest extent!!

Rhonda   November 2nd, 2009 11:25 pm ET

I taught computer classes at our local library for years. Two of my most attended were: Check yourself, a teens guide to social pages, and Check Them, a parents guide to social pages. I taught parents and grandparents how to "google" their kids. WE AS ADULTS need to see what our children are doing. Privacy is not an issue. They are yours, it is up to you to help protect them. Please keep this story in the news!

Jackie putman   November 2nd, 2009 11:26 pm ET

Nancy
I think there are two victims in this story.
You have a 15 year old crying out publically for help and no one seemed to respond. We need professionals at our schools and in our community to help children like this. Our society has a lack of
Accessable mental health care and lack of response to young people who do vocalize or show their need for help.

joe   November 2nd, 2009 11:58 pm ET

For all the peole out there i am from 20 miles away from where this tragety happened at. My opinion to all people out there is that if it was my 7yr old son i would want some justice. LET me tell u IF I or U was in the same tragdity, can't imagine but if we was, will not rest!!!....
I,really wish that i could be on that jury, but u know what, the prosecuter would love me and the defense would hate me. WHY u ask b/c i have a son 2 yrs younger and i have a heart!!!!!!
I don't know anything about her family even though am only 20 miles away, but almost feel sorry for them if they aren't guilty to.

Baffled   November 3rd, 2009 12:19 am ET

TY Nancy for covering this case! I can't believe this isn't all over the news. THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH OUR YOUTH TODAY! The killer's friends are idolizing what she did on their My Space accounts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This HAS TO STOP NOW!

c kesling   November 3rd, 2009 12:48 am ET

this is such a tradgety. what is happening to our youth these days?? this is so awful on so many levels....our children are being killed at such a rate, it very alarming... some thing has got to be done. make sure they are tried as ADULTS !!!!!

ROSE   November 3rd, 2009 12:51 am ET

same issue here. I am married, in name only trust me. Live in the same house. I want to go due to all the lack of support and being made to feel i am wrong for protecting my kids. I am told I am paronoid and he says things are the same as years ago when we were young but the difference the media shows more of it now. Bull. I tell my boys 15 and 12 not to go by the road to wait for the bus. I tell them to stay on the porch at our front door.My 15 year old looks 18 too and tall. I don't care how big he is. Adults are hurt and killed all the time. My 12 year old the opposite, looks 9 and tiny. He could be picked up in a snap.

JC   November 3rd, 2009 1:00 am ET

Nancy you had Ladd from KRCG on again tonight. Can you PLEASE ask him why the last newscast that had anything to do with Liz was on Oct 29th? Can you also please ask him why there are no updates on their website about this case since Friday? Us locals are getting pretty fed up with the lack of coverage of this case aroud here. Whether the media locally wants to cover it or not all the locals are talking about it and the rumours are crazy. Nancy thank you for being a voice for the victims and Elizabeth when the local media has forgotten her.

ROSE   November 3rd, 2009 1:00 am ET

I have an issue to. I am told by my kids father who i am still married to in name only in my heart in the same house however that I am parnoid, nothing has changed but the media showing more of it. Bull. I have no support from him and it is not good. My olders son is 15 looks 18... My younger 12 looks 9..Both very smart, honor students but that does not matter to a sick pedaphile etc. I told them not to go at the road to wait for the bus but to stay on the porch at our front door. They do it, but when dad is around they want to be big men and say what dad says to me. They tell me i am paronoid. I truly believe they do not think it. IF SO they would not do what I ask. They do not know i watch. I do not want to make them feel like 2 year olds so i find a window to watch and they have no idea. Their father and I ARE Not on the same page, never been and that is why this marriage was wrong from day 1 and i have not worn my ring in over 8 years. I AM already gone in my heart. I am just too afraid to do somethign about it. Long story, tried 5 years ago and i stopped it due to many things. He is controlling, violent temper. Let me put it this way, you watch titanic??? That guy rose is with is my husband. Rose felt trapped, controlled and stayed until she found jack. Same happen to me. I found someone but he left to another state. So the ending was the same like wanting to stay with that person unfortunately i got hurt. Anyway, i told them to laugh all they want, they can hate me for protecting them, but i am their mom frirst before their friend and I will always protect them. I am the one that basically raised them, father always at work. Summer with me 69 hours a week when dad off only a total of 28 hours a week. He works at two veterinary clinics. HE is a doctor but you know what, they are human first and he has a dark side. If I had support and was not alone, then maybe i would be stronger emotionally. I look it on the outside but the inside is opposite. Depression from birth and a verbal abusive mom did does not help.

Shelly   November 3rd, 2009 1:23 am ET

I agree that local media isn't keep us up to date like we all would like.
I would be interested to know more about this teacher and if this incident is connected to this case as well.

A longtime Jefferson City public school teacher was found dead at his home early Monday morning. Police were called to the home of Bill Currie on Windsor Drive around 6:50 a.m. Details about his death were still being investigated Monday, but authorities were dispatched to the home as a suicide call.

A firearm reportedly was involved.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Jefferson City High School teacher Bill Currie,"

shirley from Wv.   November 3rd, 2009 1:48 am ET

Have the parents of this 15yr. old seen any signs over the past 15yr. that suggest that something in this girl's mind is not right? I cannot believe you live in the same house 24/7 and not know something is wrong with this kid. In a community close to here a 14r. old son killed his Mom, Dad, and brother with a ball bat and I feel they must have seen something in him also. I always knew when my kids were having problems.

Denise Carter   November 3rd, 2009 2:25 am ET

I've worked with law enforcement for 10 years. Where were the parents of this teen? It is not law enforcements job to raise our kids, its our job to teach them respect for others and for authority. Most parents complain if their local police try to keep these juveniles in line when they're out on the street and ask if they don't have any real criminals to harass. Well, wake-up people these teens need some guidance at home.....or they will become the real criminals as this girl apparently did.

Trisha winter   November 3rd, 2009 2:42 am ET

I am just outraged that this 15 year old could do this to anyone! She needs to go to prison for life! She does not deserve special treatment! Minor or not! She chose to do the crime! So do the time. My heart goes out to elizabeths family! And yes, they need to do more public coverage on this! It is just as important as all the other cases! Thank you nancy for all you do to help all the famillies with crisises! You are amazing

julia eisen   November 3rd, 2009 2:43 am ET

Nancy, I am a huge fan, however; do you think justice is served, when we allow people, who are unqualified to be parents, to irrepairably damage their children, who ultimately injure other people's children, to evade punishment? Why do the offspring of these folks wind-up on death row, while those who committed the crimes that led to other crimes, go free? I would like to know your opinion. Mine, is that people need to be licensed before they give birth to children. I needed a license to own a dog; why, in so much more important a situation, are there no guidelines?

Toni in TX.   November 3rd, 2009 4:29 am ET

Jessica- you need to get your facts right before jumping all over the parents of Elizabeth! The Mother knew exactly where she (Elizabeth) was and she was playing w/ the 15yr old's younger half-sister....whom is around the same age as the 9yr old. The Mom also knew these people and had no reason to even fathom something like this would happen! When E left to walk home @ the time she was told to, it is alleged she was lured into the woods by this monster. The parents of E wasted NO time contacting authorities when she wasn't home by 6:00pm. Also, the house E was at is only about 1000ft from her own. I read somewhere that this "satan's spawn",Allysa killed this sweet angel b/c she wanted to know what it was like. How do ya like them apples, Jessica?

robbie   November 3rd, 2009 4:53 am ET

I believe that the way society is acting towards this is no human. I believe that if it was a grown adult who did this that person would be in jail and that the courts would not care, but since a child did this we try to make it more fair for them to get off. I think this child deserves hard time if not the death penalty. Being a single mom I know how hard it is to keep our kids on the right path, but why were the parents not watching what she was posting and why did they not notice. If we can all take one thing from this, it is to spend more family time together and watch our children more closely.

Tina   November 3rd, 2009 4:53 am ET

I am sickened and horrified by this poor childs murder. What I want to know is where are the parents of the 15 year old.? Has anyone from the family stepped forward to answer questions about her? I would also like to know, if this stuff had been seen on her profile, why did no one report it.? There were obviously signs with this girl, and I find it hard to believe that no one could pick up the fact that this 15 year old needed help.

Donna   November 3rd, 2009 5:23 am ET

If an animal kills a human such as a bear, lion or dog we have zero tolerance for their actions and promptly kill the animal. The animal does not get a trial it is simply killed. The animal that attacked may still be violent and feral, it WILL attack again 9/10 times if it is still let loose, it is a public threat and to avoid MORE civilian deaths, the animal must be put down. Even if you were to catch it (should it be wild), it would just hurt itself if it is contained.
We do not care how old the animal is and we do not allow it to defend itself in a courtroom. Because it is not intelligent as humans.

The probability of this 15 year old girl killing again is 99% chance she will. I think that any person whom is guilty of murder (without any doubts they are guilty) should face the same punishment, that being death. We as humans learn early on in life how to make choices. We learn yes and no and right and wrong. I do not care who you are, you know that killing another human is wrong, Period. So I believe and eye for an eye she deserves to die. She has a disease called Mentally Sick. Why are we having to waste tax-payers time and money with housing and feeding her and the crap that goes with her legal rights. Oh yeah the animals aren't intelligent so they have no rights.

I'm totally for the death penalty when it comes to a person 100% without any doubt that they are guilty of murder and I do not care how old they are or why they got that way. If our laws were the same for humans as they are for animals I bet things would be different.

Same thing for sex offenders I believe that a sex offender that has harmed a child 10 years and under should be put to death. They are only going do it again and again because they are sick. And guess what they know right from wrong and they choose to let that sick urge hurt a child causing their victims lives never to be the same again.
So why do we acccept this knowing the chances they will commit the crime again goes without saying.

Just my opinion.

Brion   November 3rd, 2009 5:49 am ET

What is up with Florida??? It seems every missing or abused child seems to be a resident victim in this state!

Josh LB   November 3rd, 2009 5:52 am ET

Read these "Creepy" Lyrics of the song that she put to her Electric fence video. It is an evil sounding song by " A Thorn for every Heart" and it's called Things aren't so beautiful now (part2).

telephone rings,
Chokes a gasp at the awful news it brings.
A phone call she's been avoiding.
She knows he's reached the end.

Hooked up to the respirator.
It breaths life into my callused lungs.
My heart beats getting fainter.
I know my time has come.

It's getting colder
been trying to show her
that I'm not the one
to be there beside her now
I'm crossing over
can no one console her
alone she'll remain
with no way to end this pain.

Now I realize the things that I
(All of the things that I wanted in this world)
the things I have done to you
(What have I done to you)
why you gave your love with all your heart.
(Hands went way to fast)
With all that a heart could give.

Intentions that you'll never know
the reason why I have to lead astray
I gave you a life time of pain and remorse
(Mistakes that were never yours)
the wrong in my life can never be right.
(It flashes before my eyes)

(How did he come to this,
His mind is working harder than ever before.
Thousands of thoughts in seconds.
His last thoughts were of her,
and how he and he alone had destroyed the once
vibrant spirit he had coveted so deeply.
The last pain he had ever caused is to the only
woman that had ever loved him...)

Bright light is calling me upward.
(All alone)
I follow and leave you below
(A ghost for now)
Now you're all alone.
(All alone)
And I leave you with nobody by your side.
(A ghost for now)
Not to hurt you ever again
(All alone)
Never break your spirit for me.
(A ghost for now)
Now I'm all alone.
(All alone)
Still I cherish the things that you have given to me.
(A ghost for now)
Bright light is calling me upward
(All alone)
I follow and leave you below
(A ghost for now)
Now

We cant even let our kids play with their friends. We have lost the war on everything in this country. We are going to be confined to our homes soon. The criminals are running ramped and sex offenders are out on the streets, we only pay attentions to the criminals when one of our children are taken. My son was getting off the bus by a house that was housing sex offenders. It looked like a regular house till I found out that it was owned by the state and rooms where given out to sex offenders and rapists. This was smack dab in the middle of a development. There are no more jails for all the criminals that are out there. We just have to go back to the old west and hang them right there on the spot. That is the only way our children or us are ever giong to be safe.

Jeanette   November 3rd, 2009 10:59 am ET

Hi,
Does anyone out there have the links to YOUTUBE and tweeter on this 15 year old. If so please post the link for me..thanks

Kim   November 3rd, 2009 11:14 am ET

I think this young girl knew exactly what she was doing.
But, what is sad is we have not just this child doing things like this but other kids as well. We do not shame kids anymore and many kids don't care about a persons life or their worth to others. We enable kids to be bad, we make up excuses for them. We feel sorry for the environments they grow up in, we want to always blame the parents, the schools, the teachers, etc....
Her parents may not have known what she was doing or what was going on in her head. This kid could be a master sociopath.
All I know is a little girl is dead and a family has now died and another family has to come to the realization that their child is a murderer.
It's sad but the truth is, we have many many kids out there commiting murders her age and younger. They don't care about human life, they have no conscience. It's a game.
We all need to start doing something. Life is a gift, not something to another person takes upon themselves to end.
We live in a sick twisted world and it's not getting any better.

EILEEN   November 3rd, 2009 11:17 am ET

Everyone is asking where were this teens parents. Well they are in jail, and the children were turned over too the grandparents. Elizabeths father is in jail also. as well as her brother.. Whats also strange that the
girls teacher commited suicide also which adds another twist the last person to see him was the sheriff. He taught Journalism and many believe he maybe read alot of her writings and maybe felt he should have said something. what a strange case and how very sad, They say this girl dug her grave a week ago and just wanted to know how it felt to kill someone. I found out her name doing google searches and wow
so much is comming out. how very sad

I am a Mother of 2 daughters, who are now grown, & are now becomming young mothers. so as a Mom & a Nana, I am really heartbroken, & angry over the death of this little girl at the hands of this 15 year ol girl. Parent, & grandparents both need to be more aware of what is going on in their families. The outside world that as we knew it doesn't anylonger exist. Children, going down to a friends house to play isn't any longer safe.
C'mon, people wake up this 15 year old may have some problems, BUT NO-ONE & I MEAN NO-ONE & NOTHING MADE HER DO THE THINGS TO THIS LITTLE 9 YEAR OLD GIRL. SO LET'S GET OFF OF THE FEELING SORRY FOR HER BECAUSE SHE HAD SOME "PROBLEMS".
None of us are perfect, but that doesn't make us all killers!!
I live in Texas, & trust me children are missing here just like in Florida.
So don't think it is just in one part of the world.
We NEED TO PUT PRAYER, & GOD, BACK IN OUR LIVES & IN OUR CHILDREN'S LIVES, & START TEACHING THEM IT IS WRONG TO HURT, & TO KILL. STOP BEING AFRAID TO BE PARENTS & GRANDPARENTS.

Nancy, the Local teacher who committed suicide is connected to what took place in this case. Why FTLOG are the local media not picking up on this? Please let the public know about this and keep justice for Elizabeth on the news so this can not get buried. This suspect may be responsible for two lives taken, Elizabeth Olten and Bill Currie.

TRAGIC UPDATE:

As if this thing could not get any worse. I had heard that a writing teacher at the high school committed suicide after the murder. What is now being confirmed is that the perpetrator turned in a paper that in some way detailed the intent of her crime. This teacher by all accounts was a wonderful, ethical teacher. My mom was telling me he marched with MLK and even went to jail for protesting during the Civil Rights era. Apparently, he blamed himself for not recognizing the paper for what it was.

More details have come out about the details of the killing and the gravesite, but I don't want to say too much until police release those details. These are all through the grapevine at this point. But if they are true, the level of planning on behalf of the perpetrator is absolutely unbelievable.

I don't understand how people following her twitter could ignor her comments and not report them or try to get in touch with her parents,. Oviously she wasn't joking about her desires to harm others. A little girls life could have been saved now we can only wonder if contacting the proper authorties would have made a difference. I also wonder if she had been reported would the authorites have taken the matter seriously or would they have ignored her thinking she is just a kid and really didn't mean what she was saying, or that she was just trying to get attention? I think it would be a good idea to have options available to twitter, Facebook, and Myspace viewers to report such behaviors and comments so that the proper authorities can take action if there are not those places available now. Thanks for Caring Nancy.

Karen Kirby   November 3rd, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Nancy and staff. Please can you find out if it is true she was treated for suicidal homicidal ideation. If so, and she was sent to her grandparents who run a daycare center why was she not monitored? Or was she? Did you note that her brothers were wearing goth tee shirts in the electrified fence video? The grandparents allowed these children to copy this gothic style. Obviously this girl had extreme influence over them also. Their mental health should be at issue as well.

Debby DeHart   November 3rd, 2009 12:46 pm ET

How tragic to read and hear on a daily basis the heart breaking stories of these children being killed or killing those of there own generation, such anger and hate for life. How my heart aches ! We do not know what this young lady lived in her home , what went on inside her home , school or even the school bus ride home , maybe a bully in her life had started the flame of anger and rage , maybe a parent a, a teacher .There are many hidden things in the lives of children that are not revealed until a tragedy does come about such as this one . My heart breaks for all parties .i. We need to be on our knees for this generation and all the children of the world . Pray ! Pray ! Pray !

Jade Cutshall   November 3rd, 2009 1:24 pm ET

I can't believe they would even wanna try this girl as a child. She gave up the right 2 be a child when she killed this precious lil 9 year old. I know this page is for commenting, sooooo why in the h*ll would some lady just give us her whole pathetic life story? Were not here 2 listen 2 your problems!! Get a life!! Praying for the families of everyone missing!!!

Mary   November 3rd, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Some people are simply born bad. They are dark entities that go from lifetime to lifetime hurting people. They have not been touched by the finger of God and they are not interested in salvation or in stopping what they are doing. The only thing that can be done about these people is for us to be as alert as we can be to observing the behavior of all other people around us. Listen to your inner voice (conscience) and if someone feels wrong, they most probably are! Pray for protection for yourself and for your family and loved ones against these entities. Envision a sphere of white light and place yourself and your loved ones within this protective sphere. The light of God dissapates darkness and evil. Praying for these entities is always a good thing to do, but your focus must be on protecting yourself first.

robin   November 3rd, 2009 2:06 pm ET

What evil lurks inside of our children? To kill a 9 year old child is horrific, and to find out the perpetrator was a 15 year old child is downright scary! I have not heard alot about this case, but I am sick to death of the people standing up for these teens that commit these atrocious acts on the innocent! She became an adult the day she took the life of Elizabeth Olten, and she should be tried as one. Sorry, no rehabilitation is going to change the facts of this case! A beautiful young child is dead and she deserves justice above all else!

I have been perusing this and other blogs relating to Elizabeth Oulton and I am struck about the many locals appealing to Nancy Grace for coverage of this story since their local media is not. I am writing in support of the Cole County community and hope their news outlets will do their jobs. People need to know what is happening in their backyards. Thank you Nancy Grace for letting us know what evil lurks and for helping us to be aware of our surroundings in even the most benign "happy valleys". I think a lot of people would rather "See no Evil, Hear no Evil"... shouldn't we be informed?

Carole Nelson   November 3rd, 2009 4:19 pm ET

The parents of the fifteen year old murderer should be arrested for child neglect and the child endangerment of the younger brother of the fifteen year old, who was almost electrocuted while the parents did nothing to stop the ongoing chaos in their home.

Hang em high!

kathy   November 3rd, 2009 4:29 pm ET

the law, not only in this country but in this world regarding about sex offender is not strong. when any sex offender touch the kids. their hands should be chopped off . so next time any sex offender thinking of touching the kids think many many times to do evil things.

WHY THE LAW IS SO WEAK REGARDING ABOUT KIDS.
BECAUSE WHAT THEY ARE KIDS, SMALL IN THEIR AGE.

Taylor   November 3rd, 2009 4:55 pm ET

This psychotic behavior is what happens when we ignore our children and do not engage with them and leave them to the Internet and cyberspace. I know that being a working, single mom is not easy - but we MUST find the time to connect with our kids before something fills the void and becomes the driving (and often evil) force in their lives.

Tennille Nicolo   November 3rd, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Jade Cutshall- I totally agree with you. That was a little confusing to me as well. I am not here to judge others, but that whole life story was not only pathetic but had little to do with the topic. It makes me feel bad for the lady who wrote it, as she obviously needs a more appropriate venue to discuss her problems. Someone should reach out to her and offer her some help or at least friendship. If I knew how to reach her or where to direct her, I would certainly try to encourage her to tell her story else where. I think that was just a really loud cry for help, especially since she posted twice.
Concerning the topic at hand- my heart goes out to the families of both these girls. Two children lost in one horrific crime is a very sad toll.

Kate   November 3rd, 2009 5:18 pm ET

There are many sick people among us today. Majority of them receive help. Meanwhile the remaining commit such unthinkable acts. Being sick does not give an individual the right commit these acts and get off by reason of insanity. This case inparticular was premeditated. She told other kids at school what she wanted to accomplish. Then preceeded to carry it out.
I have many questions surrounding this. First, why arent we educating our children. Giving the tools to kids for them to know how to handle situations like this. Clearly other high school students knew her intent, as well as her obsession for pain and death. It is my belief had someone have pointed her behaviors out she would have been in for a psychiatric evaluation as opposed to roaming and premeditating a murder. A vicious murder at that. My sympathies go out to Elizabeths family. May God Bless them in their journey to recover from this. May the jury convict this girl. Lock her up and throw away the key. She is clearly a psychopath. Very sick individual who with all the counseling will always be this way.

What can we do as a nation to prevent crimes like these from happening again?

Also, her parents were not in the picture. Her grandmother is raising her. Leaves me to the conclusion grandmother just provided for her and was not active in her life. I do not believe at just a glance I will say if grandma should be prosecuted or not. Maybe grandma had health problems or maybe she is just tired and has raised hers. It is hard to say without knowing the facts.

B.J.   November 3rd, 2009 5:30 pm ET

I am amazed at the comments by people on here who have no idea about the real truth since apparently the authorities are still finding out information.

This 15 yr. old should be punished but I think we should find out the entire thing before we send her to the electric chair.

People are saying why should we care about her and I think we should so that maybe if we see others exhibiting the same things she did we can notify someone and possibly stop this from happening again.

We seem to be finding that this can happen in almost any family and I don't think some of the people that have made comments would like it if the comments they made were being directed toward their family members. There are probably members of the 15 yr. olds family that are devasted by this and don't need to see it.

My prayers are with both families.

Karen Kirby   November 3rd, 2009 5:31 pm ET

From blogs her mother is drug addicted and her father is in jail for murder. She has been a ward of the state and treated for suicidal and homicidal thoughts. She and her brothers and I think a sister were given to her grandparents who moved to Missouri to care for them. So her parents are not in her life.

Tara   November 3rd, 2009 6:02 pm ET

Does it seem to anyone else that we are surrounded by sociopaths? There seems to be more than ever and more crimes against children than ever before. I think it is time for the federal government to appoint a commission on crimes against children. We need uniform laws to permanently cage these people. There is no rehab that works on them and there should never be any parole for them. Unless we do something extreme, there will just be more Jaycee Lee Dugard's out there.

Jim   November 3rd, 2009 6:18 pm ET

It is absolutely horrible that a nine year girl has been killed and I empathize with her parents, having lost a child myself.

What I find equally disturbing is the clamor for the 15 yr old murderer to be tried as an adult. We say to children, because you are not developed enough to make rational and mature decisions, you cannot drive until 16, vote until 18 or drink until 21 but....this irrational, immature and undeveloped child should be tried as an adult because we abhor the crime. We are one of the very few countries in the world to try children as adults but we still have one of the highest crime and murder rates.

Should we looking at something else?

edubya   November 3rd, 2009 6:23 pm ET

Nicole   November 3rd, 2009 6:43 pm ET

My cousin Angelina was murdered not too long after she had turned 15 by another minor. The case was a cold case for 13 years before the guy was caught in North Carolina and transferred to Michigan for a different warrant when he confessed to killing my cousin Angelina. He only gets five years in prison and he's gonna get out. After the killing, his mom moved them out of Michigan to North Carolina and our family suffered for 13 years wondering who killed my cousin. He will be getting out next year. That's justice?

I pray to God that Elizabeth's murderer is held responsible longer than just 5 years.

Nicole   November 3rd, 2009 6:53 pm ET

As another side note, I do not agree with the death penalty. I do however agree to life sentences. In the very least, the guy (16 year old kid at the time) who killed my cousin should AT LEAST have gotten 13 years (the amount of time that it was a cold case for my family) in prison. By the time they caught this guy he was almost 30 years old, but because when he shot my cousin he was a minor he only got 5 years. I don't think he should succumb to the death penalty, what would that prove. He should spend life in prison with a minimum of 13 years to serve.

Pray for Elizabeth and her family.

debra   November 3rd, 2009 7:14 pm ET

If the blog rumors are correct, it is very telling that the suspect's Father is supposedly serving time for murder. Various blogs are reporting that therapists who have read the suspect's writings have made a tentative diagnosis of anti-social personality disorder. (This is not legal 'insanity', so it won't get the suspect off) But there are some medical researchers that believe that this disorder is biologically-based and genetically linked. I remember reading, during the Scott Peterson trial, that the Peterson family had a history of peculiar family members-a grandfather, in particular. The persons with this disorder have no capacity in their brain for empathy or caring. They enjoy manipulating people. Some limit their activities to conning people out of money-but unfortunately, some of them end up as the very worst sort of criminals

Sue   November 3rd, 2009 7:21 pm ET

Thank you Nancy for being these childrens voice. It is unfortunate that when a child gets to the point where he or she can take anothers life there is something that has gone terribly wrong in their lives. We can look back over many years and study child killers and their backrounds are all different except for one thread that links them togeather sever mental illness. This childs parents saw the darkness weather they were instrumental in the cause or not they sent her to her grandparents to assist with helping, If Aunts, Uncles, grandparents etc. are not trained phychiatrists this is not the answer and not the correct place to send them please do not set this on their door step. I as a parent and grandparent whould know the signs and there is NO SHAME in seeking professional help for kids or adults. Too little people get the correct kind of help and now you want to try a child as an adult who could not think straight as a child must less think as an adult. Yes she needs to be punished but please someone get this girl the help that I am sure she has been crying out for for a long time. Who knows we may one day be able to put a productive human being back into society and if not at least the necessary effort has been put forth to try.
Parents take heed you know when your child takes a strange turn in their behavior DO Something so we can stop this kind of sick twisted behavior before it is front page and we all have to see it hear it and suffer in our hearts with the victims and their families. You know who you are!

Brenda   November 3rd, 2009 8:47 pm ET

I have some mixed feelings on this,I was a very abused child who had one parent in another city having 6 more children, while leaving 3 behind and never looking back.My Mother done what she thought was right at the time, ending up in Prison a few times,My Grandparents tried to raise us the best they could. Both of my Parents are Addicts and have had their problems. My childhood was HELL,but I believe that if I didn't believe in God that I could have really went wrong in my life.I haven't been perfect, but I don't remember a time where I could take a person's life, even though a few may have deserved it.This child is a DEMENTED CHILD,who obviously is looking for the wrong kind of attention, has no regard for how 1 terrible thing she does can affect so many peoples lives, she could have even been jealous of the other child because she did have a family that Loved and Cared about her.I don't know the whole story, but someone should have seen some signs of her acting out.The messed up thing about this is all of this could have been avoided had someone taken this child aside and let her know right from wrong,A LITTLE LOVE GOES A LONG WAY. But instead everyone was letting her Entertain them on the computer AS THEY SAT ON THEIR ASS DOING NOTHING.Now all of a sudden the truth comes out and everyone is in augh.Well excuse me but this child has been crying out for a while as you BUNCH OF FOOLS sat by seeing what she would say or do next,I HOPE THAT EVERYONE WHO SAT BY NOT EVEN TRYING TO HELP CAN LIVE WITH THEIR DECISION AS WELL.I'm not saying that what she did is right by no means, she showed all the signs of a hurting child and nobody cared enough to save anothers life, now there is a dead child ,and everyone wants to go after the hurting child.I personally don't know why you ALL are surprised at her actions against another individual.I am sick about this, and my heart goes out to all that this has affected by this tragedy.

Liz1388   November 3rd, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Although a terrible and devastating crime, I really do not think hysteria by every parent who reads about it to help anyone, least of all their children.

Odds are everyone is in more danger on the highway than from a mentally ill acquaintance.

Denise Ritchie   November 4th, 2009 12:17 am ET

I know this is not going to be a popular point of view because everyone just wants blood, but this girl is not living with her parents, why? For a 15 year old to be cutting herself and having night terrors there is something wrong. Something was done to this girl before she was taken away from her parents. We need to look at this so maybe we can prevent future teenagers who kill. I don't know if there is help for her and she does deserve to be punished but let's not sweep this under the carpet and just take out revenge on her. What let her to do this? What happened to her that she could be so cold at 15?
We need to learn from this.

joe   November 4th, 2009 3:40 am ET

close to home... Once again am about 20 miles away... i have read what all u have said and do agree. my question is?1 the parents:Who the hell knows???. Answer: what can i say this close, maybe they are good people??? maybe not?? That's not the point the main qustion is why is local people bloging that 2 NOT 1 BUT 2 kids have to lose their lives?. First of all the one("s) who knows who did this had better get themselves right with god!!! And second the one's out there that say she (the defendend) should not be in prison for life, should think.....WHAT IF IT WAS MY CHILD, come on people it never makes any sence but it is , what it is.. Let the bad go, and if it was my son. nephew, daughter, or anyone else in my family I would say the same.., would HURT, but would do the same.
the point is that we used to be responsible for our own actions, and now everyone wants to point the finger at someone else.. U know this girl is 15 she should know not b/c her parents said so ,but her teachers taught her well ,and I"M sure she had good people around her to do the right thing.. Maybe we all need to think??? what if it was my kid?? on either side?? KEEP IN MIND, NONE OF US ARE EXEMPT

Rebecca Perez   November 4th, 2009 6:12 am ET

During times like this you ask yourself, Where were the parents of this 15 year old child? The school didnt notice behavioral problems? Someone somewhere knew this girl had problems ,and they simply turned thier head. Seeing that she was in the state of mind to rob a family of thier child and rob the child of her dreams this 15YR OLD deserves to be tried as an adult and recieve the max penalty for her crime. My thoughts and prayers go out to Elizabeth Oltens family. God Bless you

I don't know about you but I am heartbroken hearing daily of real life
kidnapping and murder of our American children. The Adam Walsh
Safety & Protection Act of 2006 was signed into law by George Bush
July 25, 2006. It still is unfunded and not active in each state for lack
of money to implement this law. We need to come together and let
Washington know children are the most important thing in our lives.
Call The White House Comment line and let them know we want this
law funded. Comment Line #202-456-1111 White House Fax #202-456-2461. Take 5 minutes out of your day to make a difference.
It could save a child's life. Somer Thompson's mom said it well.
You never think something like this could happen to your family. Predators are every where. Check out the Family Watch Dog website and put in your zip code and you will be amazed how many of these creeps live in your neighborhood .

paterick   November 4th, 2009 10:13 am ET

very tragic and sad, but i wonder if things are so different now than 50 years ago. our world back then didnt have the imediate barriage of media info we have today. if something like this happened back then it was usually kept locally. i think most of us lived in capsuls of our immediate areas. local media consisted of TV and the newspaper. the number of journalists could probalby be counted on two hands in most cities. but today, there seems to be thousands, not counting i-reporters that get involved. so i guess my question is, do the statistics show the same or worse. another issue is i think back then local police had the abiility to make judgements that would prevent some things from becoming a media frenzy. but today, its big business.

i think back then we would sit on the back porch and watch the wind blow leaves were today, we are connected to 24 hour news media via TV, compueters and our phones. so, are we intouch or just being entertained. or worse is all this an extension of rubber necking on the highway when passing an accident only here we get to respond to the world instead of our immediate neighbor. so what will we do? what will i do, turn off the Tv, turn off the compueter. i think not i might have to do someting like look out the window and watch the wind blow leaves....... geess how boring!!

She deserves to be tried as an adult. Life in prison no parole. Who really cares about her being mental? SHe apparently is and thats one of the reasons she should never be allowed back in society again. She was sane enough to lure this little girl back, murder her and bury her really well. Would it really be fair to try her as a child and release her when she turns 18? This poor little girl will never get a chance to live her life but we should allow this 15 yr to? She knew what she was doing, she knows right from wrong. I read someone says her dads in jail for murder and this is what she knows or something along those lines. WELL my father was an abusive alcoholic, couldn't hold down a job thats what i grew up in. IM not an alcoholic nor am i abusive towards my kids. She is old enough she should be charged as an adult.

Vila   November 4th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

I know that rumors are rumors. However I was wondering if anyone knows if there is truth in the rumor that the teacher who committed suicide (Mr. Currie ) and Alyssa had a connection? The local news coverage is practically non exsistant on this matter and the lack of correct information escalates the misinformation. This is all very tragic and the entire community mourns for Elizabeth and I think the majority of people are hoping that Alyssa will be tried as an adult.

scott   November 4th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

It makes me wonder what was done to this girl to make her a killer.I would guess the system failed her a long time ago and she fell threw the cracks and was lost.It is sad she murdered this girl.It is also sad that no one prevented this.I can just image the suffering that she went threw to make her this way.

Kara from McCammon, Idaho   November 4th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

We all agree that Elizabeth Olten is broken. I am not sure I believe in evil children. My question is how does a young girl get this broken? There are 2 children here. Finding what happened to the one will go much farther in protecting other children from what happened to her victim then simply blaming parents, saying the child is evil and making sure she is tried as an adult. Solutions, people we need solutions not battle cries.

Kara from McCammon, Idaho   November 4th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

oops mixed name of victim and perp but I stand by my statements (could use an edit option)

Brandy S TX   November 4th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

I myself believe this 15yr old murderer should be tried as an adult. I can remember being a kid and knowing right from wrong regardless of my age or how I was raised. No one has a perfect child life. I am tired of everyone blaming the way they were raised as being the issue at hand. Or having a drug addict Mother and a Jailed Father. IT"S NOT the issue at hand. The issue here is she killed and she will kill again. They most always do. Regardless of the way she was raised. There is no going back and giving her a better life. That life was dealt to her for unknown reasons and she chose to murder. I think she should be put to death. I have 3 children in my home. The oldest 2 are girls that are my husbands from a previous relationship and the youngest is a boy that is ours together. I stay worried all the time that something like this could happen to one of us. It is out of my control. Evil is all around us. However, I do teach my children of the Lord and right from wrong. I even let them know how horrible society has become as they should not be sheltered from the evil in this world. They all 3 have a good home and 2 loving parents. We both work full time jobs but we are never too busy to know how they are feeling or what we can do to better them as they grow into adulthood. In saying this...I want to express...yes you should be in your childrens face every day teaching them and repremanding them when necessary. This is not proof of a child not becoming a murderer but it is 2 parents hoping that their children never become as sick as this 15yr old. Eye for an eye. As, hard as it might be if it were my child that had committed such a horrible act against another...I still stand on a eye for and eye. I would not want my child to ever harm another. May God Bless all involved!!!

ET   November 4th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

According to blogs/twitter posts, the killer's father in is prison and her mother is a drug addict. She lives with her grandmother. She slit Elizabeth Olten's wrists and throat and buried her in a ditch that she dug a WEEK earlier! She also apparently had told her friends that she wanted to kill someone to see if she could get away with it.

BLastelic   November 4th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

My mom used to warn me about children that were sadistic towards animals and people and said to stay away from them because they were definitely mental. Why did the parents see this going on?

Rebecca   November 4th, 2009 6:33 pm ET

It is past time that "laws" stop stating that criminals have a right to a fair trial. In cases such as this, the victim certainly did not get a fair trial and never will. If all of these fair trial issues would be thrown away and more harsh and permanent punishments were issued to criminals, then maybe these murderers and rapists would stop to think before they act.

amanda   November 5th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

I feel sorry for the people that SAY the 15 year old should be put to death.Do you people not have a soul and compassion. It is never right to have the "eye for an eye" mentality. What if it was your child that killed someone.Would you want your child put to death?Probably not, you would all be crying for mercy or blaming someone else for your child being a murderer.Yes the girl muredered someone. It is wrong, very wrong. But does that give anyone else the right to kill her.Threw out history man has killed man.Right now we are slaughtering people in the middle east.Should all them soldiers be put to death? How about the politicians that sent the soldiers there? Put them to death? And how about the self rightous people on TV that scream for Death penalties?Should they be put to death also?they are the worst ones.

She's obviously a disturbed child. It's very sad what happened to the 9 yr old but she's gone and another child needs help. Everyone is quick to prosecute but they never think about what lead to the strange behaviors of the girl who is accused. She's from a broken up family life. She lived with relatives. Her parents could not keep track of her because she did not live with them. It's a horrible situation but to throw the book at the 15 yr old is wrong. A community witnessed odd behaviors of the girl, media (books, movies, music) feuled her sick imagination, and her parents failed her because of a pattern that our society has with producing failing individuals who live in the bottom of the social ladder. There is more and more messed up individuals and instead of rehabilitating them, our judiciary system is looking for ways to execute harsher punishments on younger and younger people. We are setting more and more people up for failure and it's sad. Children can be fixed. You can't watch a sick child grow up to become a dead soul. A hollow being. That's what happens to people like that 15 yr old. The 9 yr old is gone and as sad as that is, it is shameful that our society produces children like the suspect and are so quick to discard them and say that it is their fault entirely for their madness. You don't create the beast and not accept some kind of credit for their doings.

Im shocked that the right reverand Al Sharpton hasnt jumped on the 'its racial " bandwagon and tried to make the argument that their are no black serial killers so it must be the same guy that Wayne williams was framed by....heeheeheeheehehehehehe

Lindsey Jones   November 6th, 2009 1:13 am ET

I have a few things to say, and set straight.

First- Is it legal to release the suspets gender when the hearing deciding whether or not the suspect will be tried as a child or adult has yet to occur?...

Secondly- It really is not a very good idea to be posting what you believe the suspects' name to be...
One, because it could harm the case
And two, How will the suspect get a fair trial?

Thirdly- I don't understand how so many of you are so quick to decide whether or not the suspect is guilty. All media reports on the matter have been brief and contain little evidence. I would be willing to bet that most of you are relying on your gut and the rumors you hear.
Luckily, to be found guilty, much more needs to be proved.

And to conclude:
I was a former student of Bill Curie.
The Jefferson City News Tribune has not mentioned any "rumors" about a connection between him and the suspect because they are exactly that:
Rumors...
And a good newspaper does not deal much in uninformed and usually incorrect gossip.

The suspect, if they are who I believe them to be, had little to NO connection to Currie.
Certainly the suspect was in none of his classes.

And if Currie were to have found writing suggesting violence, or be made aware of something of that nature, he would do something about it.
He was one of the smartest, strongest, and most caring men I've had the pleasure to knowing.
And I certainly do not take kindly to people tarnishing his name by creating, and help to spread completely false rumors.
I hope I have laid this rumor to rest.

My heart just breaks for all involved. I have worked in the mental health field for a while. If this 15 yr old is truely mentally ill and just not a psocialpath or have a personality disorder. It will come out if she has underlying problems that caused her to do this. Then the system needs to get her help. Just from what I have seen it seems the division of family services and her parents failed her. She seems to have some deep emotional problems. I hope for Elizabeths famlies sake they will someday be able to find some peace. As far as the 15 yr old I hope she is able to find the help she so departely needs and that our justice system and mental health system does not fail her or the olten family twice.

Sabrina   November 6th, 2009 9:19 pm ET

Oh boy, people are just being ignorant, typing in all caps about how this girl should get the death penalty. Yes, let's stoop down to her level and kill the killer. Get over yourselves people.

But this is... just down right horrible!
You would think someone would notice that there was something wrong with this girl. Purposely trying to harm herself? I've touched an electric fence on accident, and it was a very unpleasant experience, but just doing it for the heck of it? The girl is sick, that is obvious.

But was was her REASON for killing this little girl? It doesn't seem like she would see this nine-year-old and just decide she wanted to kill her. What happened to set this 15 year-old over the edge and act upon it? Don't get me wrong, there is no right in killing another human being, but just thinking from another point of view.

Anne   November 6th, 2009 11:22 pm ET

If she is old enough to think up terrible acts such as those and follow through with them, then she is DEFINITELY old enough to be tried as an adult. When teens like her are let "off the hook" they become serial killers. They should bring the chain gang back and put people like this on it!!

Kim   November 7th, 2009 3:43 am ET

WAKE UP PARENTS! Start paying attention to what your kids are doing. KNOW WHO THEIR FRIENDS ARE...not just their names but also where they live, who their parents are, and do background checks. You have the internet resources...use them.
KNOW WHAT THEY WATCH ON TV....I think many children begin at a young age watching very violent shows that they cannot fully understand it all. Many youngsters can watch a persons head get chopped off and not even cringe because they are so use to seeing violence.
CHECK THEIR INTERNET USAGE. You are the boss, you have the right. If they don't like it take their computer away. Parents need to take their parental roles seriously and stop trying to be their childrens' friend!
And most importantly....TEACH THEM GODLY VALUES.
THANK YOU NANCY for all you do and keeping us informed. We all need to start doing something because way too many children (and adults) are becoming victims of horrendous crimes.

Michelle   November 7th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

Nancy, I am pleased to see you are covering this case. This one really disturbed me. I have four little ones and this case just proves you just don't know what's a safe place for your kids. As a mother you feel like you have control and this proves you don't. A neighbor friend..I would have never thought any different of sending my child to play with a friend. I do take it upon me to meet the parents and check out the home and that's about as far as you can go. Obviously, the 15yr old will never be healed. She will never be right. It's sad, but true. She went to the dark side and I truely believe once you go there you will always be there whether you like it or not. Once your mind has seen evil and that feeling it gave you no one is right from there. Murderer, rapists, child perves or what ever type of monster that person is will NEVER change. Therapy is a band aid(a temporary fix). RIP Elizabeth. The 15 yr well I believe she doesn't even see the wrong she did. Maybe she does or doesn't but one thing for sure she has to be accountable. It would be nice to live by the bible "do unto others as they would have done unto you". She is a 15 yr old girl...a child who took a life of another.

patricia biggers   November 7th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

it makes my heart ache for the family to many children have no supervision, when it come to computors, we have parent who raelly dont care ,as long as the parent doesn't have to be bothered, its ok, i feel that the law should be cracking down on parent who not on their job. many children are being blamed for things thay have no control over.we are living in a world that children are raising themslves.treirs no intervention on behalf of our children, we as an society should be doing more, beside talking.we need to take proper action now befor its to late.i have two small children in the 6-7 grade who does very well in school,But it get harder on them as they get older. i will do whatever i can for any child.

Concerned   November 7th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

WE ALWAYS ASK "WHERE WERE HER PARENTS" BECAUSE IT IS A VALID QUESETION. AS A PARENT YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOUR CHILD IS DOING. HENCE THE WORD CHILD. NOT ADULT CHILD. WHEN YOU ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO HAVE FRIENDS OVER YOU BECOME RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM AS WELL. YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT THEY ALL ARE DOING. YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR CHILD ENOUGH TO KNOW WHEN SOMETHING JUST ISNT RIGHT. YOU MAY NOT KNOW YOUR CHILD HAS A SPECIFIC MENTAL ISSUE OR EVEN THINK THEY ARE A MURDERER BUT IF YOU ARE ATTENTIVE YOU KNOW. AGAIN WHERE THEY NOT MONITORING HER INTERNET ACCESS INCLUDING YOU TUBE AND TWITTER. IF YOU CANT MONITOR IT DONT ALLOW IT. LETS GET BACK TO BASICS WITH PARENTING. HAD THEY EVEN SEEN THESE THINGS ONCE THEY WOULD KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG BECAUSE SHE WAS INTERESTED IN "KILLING PEOPLE". STOP TURNING A BLIND EYE TO THE CHILDREN. YES WE DO NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HER PAST AND ABOUT HER PARENTS TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING. I THOUGHT THE WORLD HAD ALREADY LEARNED FROM THE MANY SCHOOL SHOOTINGS AND STUDENT VIOLENCE.

LAO   November 7th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

i'm a police officer, and i can tell you from first hand experience, parents these days dont even have a clue where their kids go to school, who they talk to, where they hang out, nor do they have the phone numbers and/or addresses of their friends...i mean NO information. I'm 36, and believe you me, just 10 yrs ago, my parents, took me and picked me up from school, from my friends house, movie theaters, any dances, etc. they KNEW EVERYTHING, and God forbid i answered back...but these days parents are literally afraid to DISCIPLINE

L   November 7th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

i'm a police officer, and i can tell you from first hand experience, parents these days dont even have a clue where their kids go to school, who they talk to, where they hang out, nor do they have the phone numbers and/or addresses of their friends...i mean NO information. do you have any idea how frustrating it is as an officer, you get called out, you ask the parent for information regarding that child, like where do you think they went? I dont know, what were they wearing? I dont know...do you know where their friends live or phone numbers? I dont know...that is inexcusable. I'm 36, and believe you me, just 20 yrs ago, my parents, took me and picked me up from school, from my friends house, movie theaters, any dances, etc. they KNEW EVERYTHING, and God forbid i answered back...but these days parents are literally afraid to DISCIPLINE thier own children. And they are the ones being threatened by the kids. time after time, a parent will tell us that their kid actually threatened to call the police on them if they hit them, claiming child abuse...well for those who dont know CHILD ABUSE: is INTENTIONAL INFLICTION OF PHYSICAL/MENTAL INJURY, RESULTING IN PHYSICAL/MENTAL INJURY, WILLFULLY ABUSES W/OUT CAUSING GREAT BODILY HARM /PERMANENT DISABILITY/DISFIGUREMENT. AGGRAVATED CHILD ABUSE: TORTURES/MALICIOUSLY PUNISHES, CAGES A CHILD/CAUSES GREAT BODILY HARM/PERM DISABILITY/DISFIGUREMENT. THAT IS STRAIGHT FROM THE FLORIDA LAW ENFORCEMENT BOOK!!! SO TO EVERY PARENT THAT IS AFRAID OF DISCIPLINING YOUR CHILD, BECOME UNAFRAID, AND NOW YOU KNOW THE LAW!! if you spank your child with your hand or shoe will it disfigure him/her? if you hit yourself on your arm or thigh or butt with your own hand or shoe, will it kill you? will it burn you? will it shatter your life so much so, that it will mentally mess you up forever? aww....NO.

Holly   November 8th, 2009 12:05 am ET

I understand how everyone feels about this 15 year old girl. But please stop and think......there are many, many other killers out there and some are even younger. People of all ages can commit crimes. Also please try to remember that this case has to go to court just like any other, we are not allowed to just hang her because she did such a horrible crime. We are in the US not some off the wall place who has no constitution. She has to go to court and a trial has to be done.....guess what else.....there has to be a JURY. Twelve people who are not biased. THAT is why the Law Enforcement of Jefferson City Missouri and KRCG are keeping information silent. Why cant anyone that watchs Nancy not figure that out? If something happens that gets her off or with a light sentence its not going to be because the Law in Jefferson Cith messed up, its going to be because this crime has been so public that a jury pool is hard to find because of it.

Glenda   November 8th, 2009 12:18 am ET

When i was growing up my parents only had to worry about things like get hurt ,while playing outside.(normal stuff). Not that down the street their a sick pervert waiting for your kids to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I talk to parents in the neighborhood and we would be willing to pay more taxes to build more prisions to house these sick monsters. There should be a law that states the FIRST SEXUAL OFFENSE you go to prision for life. Its been proven that they cant be rehabilitated and why let them back out on the street just to repeat the same thing over and over again..I feel so sorry for the parents who loses their babies.. I know its harder to accept a death when its at the hands of someone and not natural death, you alway think what if their path didnt cross where would they be now.....

Karen Kirby   November 8th, 2009 4:47 am ET

Since researching tirelessly about this case I am convinced there are hundreds if not thousands of teens who have these same tendencies. Their writings about death are disturbing to say the least. This preoccupation with death, killing, homicide is something I have not experienced in my time. By searching for AB's info I have stumbled across 100's of disturbing posts on myspace and facebook. How can this be stopped? I think it is too late.

irise   November 8th, 2009 9:04 pm ET

i personally do not believe this suspect should ever walk free again. i do believe some people are just too broken to fix. it's very sad, but it's true. some people are born damaged goods, and others' life experiences can irreparably damage them. and if you have a person who is born a sociopath, and their life experiences further damage them, you wind up with a coldhearted killer like this 15-year-old girl.

chelsea rigas   November 9th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

its a shame when the police lacks the ability to comprehend any case that goes unsolve i know the feeling of being betrayed by the police poor detective work and lack of interest plays the obvious part.

KIDS NOW A DAYS, HAVE TO MUCH INTERNET FREEDOM. WHERE WERE HER PARENTS. LITTLE ELIZABETH, IS NOW A ANGEL IN HEAVEN, I HOPE THE SYSTEM THROWS THE BOOK AT THAT GIRL.
RIP LITTLE ELIZABETH. AND GOD BLESS HER FAMILY...........

Mia   November 10th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

I can Bet this 15 year old girls (family) parents have a dark past as well?. Good upbringing brings forth pretty good kids. i Just wonder what she inherited from her kin folk. Does ANyone know anything of her family history?

Kat   November 10th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

If you read some of the first post it does talk a little about her family. both her parents are or where in jail. The grandparents have custody of her. Depending on which blog you read they say the dad is serving time for murder.

Micheline   November 11th, 2009 12:37 am ET

I have comments for some of these posters: SABRINA: How on earth could you suggest this 9 year old victim did something to provoke her own murder? Nothing the 9 year old did is relevant at all. It sounds like the evidence is going to demonstrate she was murdered in cold blood in a PREMEDITATD act CONFIRMED in a writing that led law enforcement to the suspect who LED THEM TO THE WELL-CONCEALED BODY.

To Leslie, Jackie Putman and ZRGB: Save your bleeding hearts for the victim. If the evidence shows premeditation, who cares about treatment? Does a cold blooded killer of any age deserve to be treated like a pateient? Whatever happened to PUNISHMENT? Issues of treatment vs. punishment aside, murderers do not d them for as long as they are a danger to society, usually meaning for the rest of their natural lives.

Keri   November 13th, 2009 11:55 pm ET

Nancy,

Your so good hearted.....tell it like it is..but your pure heart shows through. Please keep the media on this case. It seems as if this 15 year old may walk away just like she probably figured – since she had this all planned out. She needs to be trialed as an adult. Please do all that you can. I know you will.

Bill   November 18th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Not every bad thing can be prevented by LE, Schools, Parents, or anyone else. Stop blaming and start dealing. 2 lives have been lost. One physically, the other will probably be locked up for a very long time.

veronica   November 21st, 2009 4:40 pm ET

Hi Nancy:
Just want to add my thoughts about Antwonette Davis. She should be fed to alligators. However, it would probably cause them to have indigestion.
Watch you every night. Thank you for your voice for the victims. Love your twins. Lucy girl looks like her Mommy.

This boy needs to pay for his recklessness and go to prison. whats the best we can do to get this deffence attourney to take the offer given to him. Both boys were 15 years old and he was certified as an adult. please tell us what to do. We would love it if court tv would cover the case, Our phone number is

What are we as parents teaching our children? if she did do this then she should have to pay the price of life in prison no parole

Jeannie   November 25th, 2009 12:41 am ET

I live in San Jose, Ca and I can't believe what is happening with our teens. We just had a similar case happen 2 weeks ago in our community. 2 teens stabbed and cut the throat of another teen who was supposedly his friend. Similar story with the whole face book.

Ok Nancy, enough about Tiger Woods. He is a rich cheater and that's it!
How about getting back to these kids and let us know how some of the things going on with them now. Nothing about Kaylee Anthony in a long time.

from my experience with a man is that if he pretends its true love, he can get you to do more sexual things . he also had others ,including trying to get back with his exwife.in regards to tiger woods
