Shaniya: Waiting for Justice

Posted: 03:03 PM ET
Shaniya Davis
Shaniya Davis

We have two suspects in custody, surveillance video, and a body of an innocent little girl discarded in the woods….so where are the murder charges? 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was kidnapped from her home in Fayetteville, NC last Tuesday, was taken to an area hotel and then murdered. Her mother is being held on charges of human trafficking, child abuse involving prostitution and filing a false police report.

29-year-old Mario McNeill, who can allegedly be seen on the surveillance carrying little Shaniya through the hotel and who also turned himself in to police, is being held on first degree kidnapping charges.

That’s a good start, but I will ask again…where are the murder charges?!

While we all sit and wait for lab results to come back and for the DA’s between Lee and Cumberland counties to decide who’s going to take the case, Shaniya’s family waits for justice. And even worse, a murderer could be on the loose.

LOVE YOU NANCY!

Jo Ann Baron   November 19th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

This case has upset me so bad words can't describe how I feel. This poor innocent beautiful child taken from a loving father to this snake of a mother who is beyond evil. I just wish I could be in prison with her for one day that is all just one day.

I will never have any grandchildren and to see this happen just leaves me grief stricken. I would have given my right arm for this child to care for her and love her my whole life.

God help us.

Susan White   November 19th, 2009 4:03 pm ET

I am so hurt over this beautiful little girl. My heart goes out to her entire family. At a time like this I just keep asking myself over and over, it appears that she was well kept and why didn't her father suspect the live style that the mother was living. Can we all be so blind.

jsustik   November 19th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

My daughter was grabbed by a man in walmart nearly six years ago and thank God she screamed and he let her go.This story broke me.Im wondering how long our children will continue to be abused and murdered before we say"No More"! If that were my daughter theyd both be hanging in front of the court house! These sick people just keep getting away with this, the first time should be the last, where are our rights? They lost theirs as far as Im concerned when they choose to commit these acts. This little girl had a life and its been taken away!So should theirs!

S.Jack   November 19th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

I can't even think of what that family is going through , I am not family and I hurt . The mother should never be a mother or even called one. She is a low ,lower then low life. I would like to tell the father to be strong as I always say GOD will take it from here. You make some good choices and some bad ones in life but you have to go on . I will keep you and your other kids in my prayers.

erin clemons   November 19th, 2009 4:27 pm ET

i don't understand it. HOW can THIEVES robbing banks and people like BERNIE MADOFF get life sentences? Did u know that child molesters get less than 5 years...... sometimes just probation?
Our justice system does not protect children at all. Social service case workers are spread TOO thin or just poorley trained.
Washington needs to send some bail out money to CSS and let the wall street big wigs fend for themselves.

AMBER ADAMS   November 19th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

I cant quit thinking about this lil angel(she reminds me of my 4yr old son)....My heart breaks for her...She looks so afraid & confused on the footage from the Hotel w/that sick monster holding her.Nancy I wonder was there any footage showing when he left the hotel. If Shaniya was w/him or what???I figured the authorites are probably keeping this info until further in the case. Just checking. Thanks

Tgrl 1   November 19th, 2009 4:37 pm ET

Look @ that beautiful little angel. She looks so happy and full of life. I cannot comprehend people doing anything this horrific to this baby,or any baby!! I'm not putting blame on the Dad but I wish he would have given it more thought sending this child to the Mother. He will have to live w/ this the rest of his life. The only comfort I can get from this is knowing Shiniya wil never be hurt again. Rest peacfully sweet baby, there will be justice for you.

Brenda   November 19th, 2009 4:38 pm ET

i watch the Nancy Grace show a lot and thought i had become immunded to such tragedgy, however, the picture of this little girl haunts me so much i wish there was something i could do to bring her back.

Ginny   November 19th, 2009 4:41 pm ET

People like this need to be stoned, hanged, or crucified in a public place. That might stop some of this garbage.

Donna   November 19th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

I love your show, Nancy!!!! My heart goes out to the family of this beautiful little girl. May justice give each person involved the death penalty with NO appeals. They don't deserve appeals, fry them NOW! No one can blame the father!! Shame on the ones who do... He thought the mother deserved a second chance and didn't know about her lifestyle!! It was a bad decision, yes, but that doesn't mean he knew better!! You can tell this man LOVED that little girl and Im sure if he was aware of who she really was he would not have put that child in her care. I would love to see him in a room with the mother and McNeil, i'm sure it would be a bloody revenge!!! My prayers are with the family. God bless!!

Kathy   November 19th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) - ABC11 Eyewitness News has learned that Cumberland County District Attorney Ed Grannis will take jurisdiction in the Shaniya Davis case.

http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/local&id=7127941

I live here and I can also give you horror stories about the DSS here.

Grandmother in Seattle   November 19th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

This is so horrific its almost too much for words.. I cannot imagine what the family must be going thru and obviously the dad is destroyed but I am wondering in the 5 weeks Shaniya was with her mom didnt anyone talk to her or go visit her to see how she was doing in the transition? Especially given the history of the mom.... seems strange to me.. if I sent one of my babies to a new living environment I would be checking on the child daily at least by phone and making regular visits.. heck I do that on a normal basis so ....hmmm

ROSE   November 19th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

I am so disgusted with all the evil that is going on through out this world! It is so sad to see that things just semm to be getting worse and worse... At least every week it seems like we are hearing the same sad and heart breaking story... The crazy part is we are probably only hearing of a small amount of these stories! My heart goes out to this little girls father and other relatives. Somethings gotta be done! We need to take some sort of stance to make this madness stop. There is way to much evil in the world!

K.WIlliams   November 19th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

This story make me cry everyday, to even think about the things this pretty little girl had to go through before she was hurt. These are some disgusting people and the nerve of her to be pregnant again. I listened to the 911 call and she screwed up a few times, but she did mention her son was there ,so what did he see or say or is he even old enough to talk? I hug my 4yr.old daughter everyday and pray to god she is never hurt. This story has really blown me!

nancy   November 19th, 2009 5:03 pm ET

I cry and cry every time I see this picture. It hits way too close to home for me. My granddaughter could easily pass for her sister.
I just cannot compute in my brain how a mother could treat her child that way. She does not deserve a trial, she does not deserve a warm bed and three meals a day at taxpayers expense. She does deserve to be taken out to a field and shot between the eyes just like all other ANIMALS.
I pray this little girl rest in peace and her father finds a way to survive his new meaning of a normal life.
And may her mother get what is coming to her and what she deserves in prison. I hope they beat the crap out of her daily.

Cindy   November 19th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

I was horrified when I heard they had found this little girls blanket in a neighbors trash can. Now to hear that the mother used that precious child as a payment on drugs. Shaniya had a very loving father and family on her paternal side, I just hope the father can forgive himself for trusting that poor excuse for a human(Shaniyas' mother). What will become of her other children all I can say is those children need to be removed from the home and the one she is pregnant with taken as soon as it is born. PEOPLE REPORT ANYTHING STRANGE TO AUTHORITIES ESPECIALLY WHEN IT INVOLVES CHILDREN. IT IS BETTER TO MAKE A MISTAKE IN REPORTING SOMETHING THAN TO KNOW YOU COULD HAVE HELPED SAVE A PRECIOUS SOUL AND CHOSE NOT TO. Shaniya Rest In Peace you little Sweetheart. Bless her fathers family.

Brown   November 19th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Wow, check out this link.
http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/6450816/
Apparantly this dog have a pair of size 24 month jeans in his car and a size four jacket! I am convinced now he raped this poor baby.

char   November 19th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

this is a good reason to bring back "cruel and unusual punishment" for these people ( or any one that abuses=and esp for sexual abuse of a minor child) hurts or kills children, eldery, hanicapped people)
the old concept "an eye for an eye"( a life for a life) is all too needed especially these days.
erin clemons is so right, why are pot heads and theives getting longer sentences than chester the molester??? its a joke.
i comfort myself that not only shaniya, but somer, elizabeth( olton),caylee as well as countless other lost angels are in safe hands now, never to again experience any fear or hurt..

Jen_Rec   November 19th, 2009 5:31 pm ET

Words cannot express what I feel for little Shaniya and her horrible fate. The fact that a so-called "mother" could subject an innocent child to such a despicable and terrifying ordeal blows my mind. Even worse, the fact that nobody knew about it, or even suspected that this abuse was going on doesn't sit right with me. Little Shaniya is in a better place now, where she is free and loved – she has left the hell that her "mother" created for her. Rest in Peace sweet little one -you will never be forgotten. I am waiting with bated breath to see when murder charges are filed, and to see what kind of justice will be done. Is any justice enough? Regarding a crime like this – I honestly don't think so. However, Shaniya's life and death doesn't have to be in vain. I can only pray that it doesn't happen to another child.

Dani   November 19th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

I have never been so horrified by a news story, and have been crying about this little girl since the news came on Monday that her body was found.

I always thought I was against the death penalty, but I do believe everyone involved in this crime – the "mother", the lowlife carrying the girl in the motel, deserves to die a most painful death.

The pictures from the hotel haunt me. If I am experiencing such sadness, anger and sense of hopelessness over a little girl I never knew, I can not imagine what her poor father must feel. I hope he finds some peace.

zozo   November 19th, 2009 5:41 pm ET

OMG... This whole case is breaking my heart more and more. I feel so bad for Shaniyas father. Because now hes blaming himself for her murder and hes never gonna be able to live with himself. And YES what are they waiting for? Why hasnt the mom and the pedophile been charged yet? Last night on Nancy Grace, this retarded lawyer was saying that the mother may not get charged for anything. ??!!? Tell me hes lying. Is it really true that because the mom didnt physically kidnapp, molest and murder Shanyia. She may never get charged.? That would be so tragic. So messed up.
Many, many nights I lay in bed and I just cry for all the abused and neglected children. I pray that whatever they are going thru at that moment. that God will have mercy and take their pain away and give it to me.
Baby Shaniya, I wish i could have been there somehow to protect you.
You and all the abused babies of this cruel, disgusting world.
Remember little Nixzmary Brown? So sad because at that time I lived so close to where she got killed. And I wish I couldve been there to take her away from that hell she was living too.
Ive had a very hard life since 3 years old til now 33. Ive been molested, abused, battered, burned, raped, left for dead. But if you see me. you would never know. Because im so strong. I can take anything from anybody..Except this..I CAN NOT TAKE CHILD ABUSE. And today i have made up my mind to go find the nearest home for abused children and Im gonna go and volunteer my time to these children. I can never save them all. But I can try and help to heal these innocent kids.. .. LOVE U NANCY..I ALWAYS WATCH YOUR SHOW. Even now that i live in Toronto. Because your love for children and your pure hate for these abusers makes me addicted to your show. I love that you dont take no sh** from anybody. And i LOVE when you put someone in their place... I have a son and Im a single mother. And my son is 7 yrs old now, and Im still scared to meet and start a relationship with a man. What if he hurts my son? Im traumatized and no man is worth my son ever risking getting hurt. Anyway sorry so long. Have a great night everybody and if you have kids. Love and cherish them extra much. Because this world is f****d....

tina   November 19th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

Nancy, something needs to be done! Every week its a different child that goes missing and/or is murdered. We need tougher punishments for those that do this, hopefully this will deter others from committing similar crimes. My heart aches for this beautiful girl, and what she had to endure. I can't bring myself to even think of what must have been going through her mind before she died. I have two children myself, my biggest fear would be something ever happening to them. And this mother/monster may have had something to do with what this child suffered...it makes me sick!

Brown   November 19th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

WHAT IF........Shaniya had already been raped/sodomized when creep took her up from her house. Remember there was feces on the handrail, blanket and doorknob? Did he then take her to the hotel to "deliver" her to someone else? Did he take her because POS owed him money and then got scared and killed her?

sandy from mi   November 19th, 2009 5:54 pm ET

I have a five year old daughter and this story makes me sick. I feel sorry for the dad but come on! I would never send my daughter to live with this sad excuse for a mother!!!!!!!! I would make sure it was a safe home! Wasn't he taking her for visitation for those weeks. Can't imagine not seeing my child for so long!

Karla   November 19th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

I have no words to desrcibe what comes to my mind. Not every child is better of with Mom, and this is a perfect example. Drugs destroy a persons soul, and this monster or monsters do not have souls.
These child molesters are more protected then our own children! They get placed into custody and away from general population. this is clearly a law issue, and something needs to change.
As for Dad.... I pray that you forgive your self, It was not your fault. I am sure you had the best intentions. Just make sure that those monsters remain in custody for a very long time! make sure they pay for every ounce of pain they have caused!
God Bless you, Angel Shaniya Davis. No one can ever hurt you again!

Sherelle   November 19th, 2009 5:59 pm ET

This makes me sick to my stomach. How could Mario and Shiniya's mother be so heartless. I am a mother of two and this story makes my heart cry. my prayers goes out to the the father and the rest of the family. I think Mario raped and killed that beautiful angel. What a sick sick man. I am ashamed to call her a mother, a worthless human being. Shaniya you will be missed but now your soul will rest in peace. He shot 2 people and violated parole and he was out. Thanks to our justice system!!!!

MH   November 19th, 2009 6:01 pm ET

My heart goes out to this family! I am shocked and appalled at the nature of this crime! This mother should be held responsible for this. I think that they should release her to the girls father and see what happens. This is HORRIBLE!

Kathy   November 19th, 2009 6:01 pm ET

This is heartbreaking. I think it's time we started APPROPRIATE sex education in pre-school and kindergarten. I'm not talking sex, I'm talking about how your body is your own, what touching is appropriate, what is inappropriate when an adult talks to them. Give them some tools to think "this is wrong, I need to tell somebody what's happening to me." WE NEED TO EDUCATE OUR YOUNG CHILDREN WITHOUT SCARING THEM OR GOING BEYOND WHAT IS APPROPRIATE SO THEY CAN SPEAK UP!!! Give them info so they know who go to go. Maybe if something had been going on before this, she would have been able to let her father know. EDUCATE THE YOUNG CHILDREN. LET THEM KNOW THEY HAVE RIGHTS AS FAR AS THEIR BODIES ARE CONCERNED. They need to be smarter than the pedophiles.

Nicole L   November 19th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

I agree where are the rights for children??? People have to unite under one organization such as People against Pedophiles and Predators. Go online and become a member, this is the only way we are going to be able to start turning these nightmares around. I want to know if Mario Andrette McNeil is affiliated with any gang or gang activity. We as a country have to start treating Gangs as Terrorists. We have to start passing laws to combat them as Terrorists. They are enemies of all US Citizens. Bring our troops home and start fighting the evil scum bags that are terrorizing innocent citizens.

We see the UCLA defending organizations such as NAMBLA. They should not have protected freedom of speech when they were soliciting material on how to seduce young boys. This resulted in the kidnapping, rape and death of The Curley Boy in Charlestown Mass. The UCLA defended them to the end. Not all forms of speech are protected. You can not incite a riot and you can not scream fire in a crowded room if there is no fire, because you are endangering citizens. Why doesn't this apply to children? Why doesn't this apply to children. Children comprise a larger number of citizens than NAMBLA does and their rights are virtually ignored.

susan056   November 19th, 2009 6:03 pm ET

God help us. Humans are crazy and need to be punished. This is the biggest Sin a human being could commit. To hurt and murder an innocent child. What on earth is the world doing wrong to allow this? ZERO tolerance. These murderers must get the death penalty...now...not later...now....as its fresh in their minds what criminal act they've just committed. The whole world should watch them now suffer on national TV and be told of the horrendous crime they've just committed. Let this be left on everyone's mind so that if anyone, anyone out there crazy enough to hurt another child will think.....un vero peccato.....a real Sin.

God take this innocent child Shaniya in your arms and hold her tight and let her know that she is safe with you.

Brenda Thatcher   November 19th, 2009 6:10 pm ET

What really upsets me is that the SORRY A**excuse of a mother just stood before the judge like she was waiting for the bus NO EMOTION, appeared to be well rested ,THE OTHER PICE OF SH** had a stupid look on his face like he knows how to beat the system. They both need to be shot they don't deserve to live.As a mother you do what you can to always protect your child that B**** doesn't deserve to be called a mother. And they better not use that excuse POOR HER SHE HAD A ROUGH LIFE SHE WAS ADDICTED TO DRUGS AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING BULL.I'am a religious person but this just brings out the worse in me.My prayers are with Shaniya ,To the family she will always be with you SHE IS THE SOFT WIND YOU FEEL ON YOUR FACE THE SCENT OF A SWEET FLOWER AND ALL THE WOUNDERFUL COLORS WE SEE AROUND YOU FOR GOD CREATED THEM HE CREATED HER, THERE FOR SHE IS ALWAYS WITH YOU.MAY THE PEACE OF THE LORD BE WITH the father of this Beautiful baby girl. Please don't blame yourself.

Terri Thorne   November 19th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

Why does the father feel guilty? It's because he is at fault here. He knowingly left the child with an abuser despite the fact that others warned against it and offered to safely keep her instead.

Even worse, he did not check up on her obviously. How did he not know the little girl was at not attending school? Did he pick up the phone on a regular basis and ask this sweetheart how her day was and what she was up to?

If my child was not attending school, you bet I'd know about it!

He is guilty of abandonment and should not be excused.

Nicole L   November 19th, 2009 6:20 pm ET

I don't care if this girl owed him money or not. She should have picked up the phone and called Shaniya's father and told him she was in trouble with some nasty people and come and get Shaniya, it wasn't safe there for her. Then she could have called the cops if she was afraid her other child was endangered. She is just a self centered skank who cared only about herself and her habit. As far as being an animal, don't insult the animal world. Animals would have taken better care of that child without a doubt. They are just a bunch of evil scum sucking leaches.

Isabel in California   November 19th, 2009 6:21 pm ET

Nancy, this case has really hit me harder than many other child murder cases (if that's possible) just to hear that the animal that gave birth to Shanyia won't get what she truly deserves from our way too lenient justice system. All I can say is Shanyia is now in a place where she can be an angel to many other children that are being molested and beaten on a daily basis. NANCY, I DO HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH YOU! Why do you have to constantly interupt your guests by saying whoa, whoa, wait right there or stop, stop wait one minute and make your guests have to stop the flow of their story to have them repeat or emphazise their point. It is really bad manners, but also when they are stopped in their tracks they tend to have a hard time getting back to what they were trying to convey to you and all of us, your viewers. I love that you work tirelessly to bring justice to all crime victims, but not only is it not becoming of you to do that but it is also downright rude!

Shara R   November 19th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Crystal Shefied at least knew what school her daughter went to. I think this stinks! Nancy Grace you know you would not do what the father did! He just dumped her off! I would have checked out EVERYTHING before I ever would have considered "letting the mother try to be a mom". I think I heard the father say he gave her custody??? He stinks! I bet the aunt is the one who took care of the little girl. She is the only one who I think has shown any REAL emotion. What in the world would make him think the situation was safe in the first place. He had her to begin with for a reason. He did the same thing the mom did almost-didnt care enough. He is also responsible too. School, doctor, housing, food, clothes, safety-where was the father? Did he even call her while she was with the mother??? Bet not!

val robertson   November 19th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

I say to the father and Shaniy's half brother and sister. Have faith in God and trust in him that he will bring justice to you and your family for the awful crime

Jessica Moore, Orlando, FL   November 19th, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Hi Nancy,

I just want to say I love your show, and the dedication that you show to all victims. I have been keeping posted on this story, and as a mother, or just human being, it is very heart wretching to watch and to actually think about the cruel environment this beautiful princess lived in, and even more her cruel death.

It is said by many that black kids or victims do not get as much media attention, but I can say that is not your true in your newscast. Your dedication stretches across racial, age, and gender lines.

Thank you for your hard work, and continue the fight for justice. R.I.P. Shaniya Davis, and I hope the mother and suspect get what they deserve!

Jessica Moore

clare   November 19th, 2009 6:28 pm ET

I woke up every day this morning crying. The thought Shaniya was scared and crying makes me cry, Shaniya and my daughter look very much alike. I cant get this off my soul and heart. Why must people abuse and hurt our children. I wish the worst for everyone involved in this babys death. All I can do is cry and hold my baby tight, I will always remember this for the rest of my life. We as people need to keep an eye on our children they are so innocent.

Marion   November 19th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

My only guess is what about the other child that was living with the mother was he abused also?

Cynthia   November 19th, 2009 6:30 pm ET

What else can we do to protect our childern? For murders, rapist of children get life or death in prison. Why is it that they do like 6 or less yrs? I dont get it. Isint there the John Walsh act that he has been trying to fund to protect our kids from rapist?

How can we help?? What else can we do? I have two beautiful twins a boy and girl and my heart is so sadden by this precious little girl.

JJ   November 19th, 2009 6:47 pm ET

Local station abc channel 11 is reporting that cumberland county will take the case. Hope charges come very soon! someone commented on the story.....twice.......to check out the dad now........that his story does not check out. ???????????????????????????????

elle   November 19th, 2009 6:54 pm ET

my heart goes out for this little girl no one should ever be treated in such a manner you know he did something to her an felt some type of remorse so he did away with the her ....it's a sad sad world we live in that we have animals like this running around not only that but unfit mothers who with no lack of love for her daughter would do something like this.

Angry Mother   November 19th, 2009 7:16 pm ET

I don't think anyone needs to be checking out the dad, someone posted earlier his wife was murdered, well here is the link... she was murdered but not by Shaniya's Dad...

http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/6435879/

Barbara   November 19th, 2009 7:25 pm ET

Nancy Love your show and how fiesty you are !! I Just cannot wrap my mind around a father of 5 years taking a beautiful girl to a place like that to live and not check on her!! Anyone that lives near that trailer park area that has no proper plumbing knows it is a drug area and no place for a child I just cannot understand WHY the father would even consider leaving her there ? His home is beautiful and clean and she was used to that life why put her out to live like an animal?
There is more to this story than meets the eye the mother does not seem to care about what happened and I doubt she even wanted the girl So my question again to the Father WHY take her there? I feel he is just as responsible for her death for leaving her there with those drug users

vanesa   November 19th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

this story has really hit home with me, how can someone do such a thing to a little child!! a five year old how can someone want a child for sex that is disgusting and they deserve maximum punishment....God bless the little girl and her family

UNES GARCIA   November 19th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

HELLO NANCY, FIRST LET ME SAY I WATCH U EVERY NIGHT...

I THINK IT IS JUST DESPICABLE WHAT THIS WOMAN HAS DONE TO THIS BEAUTIFUL LITTLE ANGEL. I THINK THE LOUD BANGING THAT THE NEIGHBOR HEARD EARLY THAT MORNING WAS MCNEILL BANGING ON THE DOOR FOR THE MOTHER TO ANSWER. sHE DEFINITELY KNEW WHAT WAS UP. HER 911 CALL IS BOGUS U CAN CLEARLY HEAR HER TONE CHANGE BETWEEN QUESTIONS. SHE DESERVES THE DEATH PENALTY.

Robin T.   November 19th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

THIS BABY WAS SOLD FOR SEX? SHOW US WHAT THE PEICE OF TRASH MOTHER LOOKS LIKE..... SO I CAN PICTURE HER BURNING IN HELL! I SERIOUSLY THINK THE ONLY REAL JUSTICE FOR THESE PEOPLE IS TORTURE....SLOW...PAINFUL...BRUTAL TORTURE UNTIL THEY DIE! HOW DARE ALL THESE SICK ANIMALS TREAT THESE CHILDREN THIS WAY. I HOPE THE LEGAL SYSTEM BRINGS SOME SERIOUS JUSTICE TO SHANIYAS CASE AND ALL THE OTHERS THAT ARE NOW LEFT WITHOUT A VOICE.

jeanne bowman   November 19th, 2009 7:43 pm ET

Don't worry – Those 2 won't last a week in prison – dead man
and woman walking!!

Kathleen   November 19th, 2009 7:44 pm ET

We saw Mario McNeill take the child into a hotel room, but we did not see Mario or the child leave – at least such evidence has not been released to the media. We know McNeil left. Did he leave with the child? . . . or did he pass the child off to someone else at the hotel? Is it possible someone else registered at that hotel left with the child? Is it possible the child was murdered at the motel and her body removed inconspicuously (e.g. in a suitcase)? Waiting for answers . . . and justice.

laura   November 19th, 2009 7:55 pm ET

When I first heard this story I had to cut the television off cause I didn't want to hear this. It made me sick to my stomach. I have a five your old daughter and she looks just like Shaniya. I can't understand how a mother will do this to her daughter. I really can't make since of men rapping little girls. But her OWN mother. I can't not believed this. I would sacrifice my life over my kids. This makes me want to go to NC to get arrested and take justice in my own hands. When I saw that men carried her into hotel she looked so scared. I hope that Shaniya didn't have to go through any pain. It hurts me to see things like that. Deliberately causing pain on a child for one own satisfaction. Why didn't mom just prostitute herself. What is so bad about this we are hearing more stories about mothers killing there children. What is this world coming too? I hope her father can stay strong. Rip princess. You are safe now.

Jammie Tarves   November 19th, 2009 7:56 pm ET

I just want to say that if the mother did this she should fry. How could anyone do this to a child especially their own? How could the father not know anything was going on? It is a disgrace how unprotected children are today and you would think they would be more protected than years before. I just wish I could understand it. Someone help me please because I will never get why people do things like this. It seems like Casey Anthony started a trend among mothers here. It is really honestly and truly sad. That's all I can say about it.

Angela   November 19th, 2009 7:58 pm ET

Well hun, you dont have to worry about going to prison for one day. Let the other inmates have their way with her, if you know what I mean!!! What she put that beautiful little girl through she will be getting back to her ten fold!

farzi somali   November 19th, 2009 8:00 pm ET

hi nancy i love your show

Debbie   November 19th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

What is this world coming to? Too many of our children being abused and killed and that's just what we hear about on tv. Can you imagine how many more go on for years that we never hear about and the sickos that keep getting away with it?
It's disgusting and makes me sick!!

Tracie Wilson   November 19th, 2009 8:08 pm ET

God help us all if this is what the world is comming to. A mother, a predator on her on child. It is not even comprehendable to me how a woman, on drugs or not, could do this to any child let alone her own baby girl. It sickens me beyond words. These monsters should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and beyond, anything else would simply be an insult to life everywhere.

This "mother" and the baby to be....well needless to say she is not a mother at all and only a wolf in sheeps clothing, a bottom feeder, a murderer and the baby should never rest in her arms, see her face or frankly be in the same room w/ this monster.

Dixie   November 19th, 2009 8:12 pm ET

Nancy, I love you. I have twin girls and relate to so much to you. HOW can you not hold the father to accountability. How do you let your daughter that you raise for 5 years go to her mother for 5 weeks. Shaniya was basically with a stranger, where was her dad? Why didn't he call? Why didn't he stay in touch with his daughter during the time she was with her mother? The mom is a waste and the guy involved Mario is worse than an animal, but the dad in this case bothers me.... how do you just turn your child over to someone you really don't know anymore? My kids dad calls but hasn't seen them in four years, I would never just send them to "visit".

lee johnson   November 19th, 2009 8:20 pm ET

I don't blame the father and I feel very sorry for Shaniya's family but I don't understand why the father would let her stay for more than a day to see how things went before leaving Shaniya for weeks. Also, did he not see the feces all over the place?

xenainternetwarrior   November 19th, 2009 8:26 pm ET

Nancy You're awesome!!!! Thank you for being a strong, intelligent voice for women and for being sickened with horrible crimes as the rest of us are. Don't lose your empathy and caring, it's what sets you apart from others. I love JVM too...discovered her because of your show. You two are my top 2, but you will always be my number 1!

Angry disgusted Mark   November 19th, 2009 8:42 pm ET

These two subhuman pieces of crap should be removed from this world as quickly as possible (I SAY OLE SPARKY..needle in the arm is too gentle for these evil @$$wh01e$) rush them to hell where they belong...may they be damned to the pit of hell with their master Satan. I dont worry about little Shaniya because I know she is cuddled in the palm of God's hand. Her justice will come in the end and I am sure she knows it. My heart felt sorrow and prayers go out to Shaniya's father and brother.

Leb Joyner   November 19th, 2009 8:47 pm ET

this is to awful for words,no animal would do this.no murder charge because they haven't found the body.but when they find the body all of us may be surprised.

Trudylynn   November 19th, 2009 8:54 pm ET

If the are charging someone eith murder they must have determined where the murder scene is. Do we know any of that info yet?

Josephina   November 19th, 2009 9:01 pm ET

This story has saddened me like no other story before. I have a 2 year old daughter and the thought of an innocent child having to suffering at the hands of such a disgusting person, die and then be tossed alongside the road like trash, makes me ill. This little girl should have been going to school, soccor games, shopping, dance class and everything else that little girls her age are supposed to do. What will it take for our society to fight back against these horrors that take place almost on a daily basis? Our glamourized media is not doing enough to put these awful people in the fore front. I am so happy for the work that Nancy Grace is doing because she is bringing this insanity to light and just hopefully one day hollywood, our governement and normal citizens will do what it takes to save our children. I am open for any suggestions on what I can do to help...

Cassondra   November 19th, 2009 9:07 pm ET

This story has me captivated, and yet I can barely read any of it.
I see this little girl's photo and am just heart sick. The prositution part has my stomach in knots. Did NO ONE know of this little girl's abuse?
Did she see her dad? A lot of children give hints about abuse or say things that are indicitive of abuse. I'm so beside myself when I think of the horrible things this little girl went through and then to know she also died.
I really hope people pay attention to what her father said, and I've re-read it a lot. I wonder if any suspected any abuse?

Anyway-Nancy I have to applaud you for what you do, if I had to report on things like this each day, I'd go mad

JoAnna   November 19th, 2009 9:08 pm ET

What is going on in this world, sweet innocent little children are being killed............tell you something I don't know how the parents are dealing with this, but if it was my child...............I hate to say this I will take the law into my own hands cause I am a mother first and getting justice..............This has gone to far with children being missing or murdered...............it breaks me apart, how someone can hurt children.
IT IS VERY VERY SAD......................Police officer don't get right on it.............thats what is wrong in this world, some police officers are not doing there job right and I am tired of paying them my money.

Nancy thank you I am so glad I let this all out. Keep up your good work!

CaSandra Vann   November 19th, 2009 9:09 pm ET

Nancy,
I am a faithful watcher of your program, and I love how you bring insight and alot of other things that goes on in this world.. I must say that tonight I am very upset with a comment that you made about MR McNeil's arrest record.... "And drug charges of course" I am not sure what that statement implies... Mr. McNeil is very disgusting to me, and I hope he burns in hell for his actions, but there are alot of rapists, and murders that you show on your program, and I have never heard you say that phrase.

Naomi M.   November 19th, 2009 9:10 pm ET

I am appauled. I am a recovering crack addict, i have done almost everything you could think of, as far as prostitution, lying, stealing, cheating. Selling an innocent child, is a fine line, most respectable drug addicts( use the term loosely) never crossed. There were too many option the , so called mother, could have taken, but she chose the most cowardess option, concievable. I have neglected my kids, i have left my kids with their sitters, and didnt come back...but for somebody to pimp her daughter out...when she could have pimped her own self out, or pawned something, robbed somebody, something, pan handle, it dont make no sense...no respect for this scalawag..... by the way, i have 8 years clean and just got my Masters in August...

karen   November 19th, 2009 9:14 pm ET

R.I.P SWEET LITTLE ANGEL SHANIYA .

ELONDA   November 19th, 2009 9:14 pm ET

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST HORRIFIC CRIMES THAT I HAVE READ OF IN A VERY LONG TIME AND IF I NEVER HEAR OF ANOTHER STORY LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE TIME THAT WOULD ALRIGHT WITH ME I HAVE A 4 YR OLD DAUGHTER AND I COULDN'T HARDLY SLEEP JUS THINKING ABOUT THIS CHILD PRISON IS TO GOOD FOR HIM ARE HER MOTHER THEY SHOULD BOTH BE TURNED OVER TO THE PUBLIC FOR SOME DOWN HOME JUSTICE.

nc   November 19th, 2009 9:16 pm ET

They should be on death row!!! and she's pregnant!! get that child away from the crackhead mother!! at least one will be saved from her!!

Sandy heckt   November 19th, 2009 9:18 pm ET

I have just learned that Shaniya was raped..I feared this result..This poor Baby..I just can fathom any human being doing this to a five year old baby girl..The Mother is a disgrace to all Mother's every where..How in the name of all that is Holy could she allow this? Nancy I wish you could try these monster's..I realize that you can't because of your show and family. But I sure wish you could! If I know anything it would be that you'd get them GOOD! and Shaniya would have justice! I am sure there are many good Lawyers but I prefer you ..I hope their time in prisin is a living HELL just like the Hell Shaniya went through..God help these Animals! and My Deepest condolences to The Family...just thinking of the pain she felt makes me want to lose my dinner,,Soar with the Angels Shaniya... You captured America's heart Sweet Sweet Baby Girl..

Barbara   November 19th, 2009 9:19 pm ET

I think the reason why this case is so upsetting is the fact we all got to see what may have been Shaniya's last minutes of life. When I see the picture of him ( whatever his name is) taking her into the elevator, I just want to say stop!!!! Seeing that, knowing, I can't do anything to stop him, because it's already been done, hurts. It reminds me of the case a few years ago of the young girl in Florida, who was killed, but there was a video of a man taking her by the hand and walking off with her. She to was killed. You feel powerless, even though you know there is nothing you could have done. I almost feel guilty.

Tracy   November 19th, 2009 9:20 pm ET

Can you please not put beautiful Shaniya's picture next to her rapist and killers! Please put her on the other side of the screen.

kisha coleman   November 19th, 2009 9:21 pm ET

I am grieving for this angel as if she were mine. I can't get her face out of my head. These two demons need to be sent back to hell. Life in prison or even the death penalty isn't good enough unless it death by rotating firing squad, being tied to a tree and set on fire, lynching or disembowelment.

What I don't understand is how could her life equal a drug debt.

Lucy   November 19th, 2009 9:23 pm ET

working as a clerical worker with CPS I can tell you that crimes against children are many. NOW is the time for all people in this country to come together as a community and start taking care of our children! Everywhere I go I teach parents how to look up child preditors living in their community. Anyone can do it and it's free. Please Please if you think a child is being abused report it . you can report it to CPS without leaving your name. Even if it turns out to be something simple... report it don't be one of those people that say "I should have" Never "should" on yourself. Our little town CPS workers are pushed to the max but they need your help..... Help us help the kids! We have 4 CPS workers with 100's of cases to look after... we need the community to help too. thank you

j.m.   November 19th, 2009 9:26 pm ET

i am so disgusted! and that mario guy looks like he is trying not to smile in those pictures! what a waste he is! he had better end up with a huge gay cell mate who hates rapists!

bas0320   November 19th, 2009 9:26 pm ET

This case has made me sick ever since I first saw it. Every time I see the picture of that trusting baby in the arms of that worthless man I can't keep from crying. I have five little grandbabies, all girls, and this just makes me sick. This man and the mother both need to be put in general population in jail, not in protective custody. I sometimes have second thoughts about capital punishment but in this case I would love to put them to death myself. No mercy to either one. Kill them, but only after torturing them first.

nc   November 19th, 2009 9:26 pm ET

when she sold her child? she thought a 29 yr old was going to raise her? get real!! a couple of rocks was all that child was worth to her...death row!!!! she don't need to live for what???? he don't either!!! sorry for that baby..but after he raped her..her life would have been troubled all her life..he needs to die for taking her life the minute he raped her..he took her life then!!!!

Taylor   November 19th, 2009 9:28 pm ET

This case just breaks my heart. She was such an angel. It is so disgusting that a mother (or is she an egg donor?) would do this to her own child. If she needed money so badly, why didn't she prostitute HERSELF??
I hope that they file murder charges against the "mother" because she is responsible also.
One more thing that I question.........why is the mother in protective custody?? She certainly didn't protect her daughter!
God Bless You Shaniya !!

Kathy Thorson   November 19th, 2009 9:28 pm ET

Nancy I am appalled at how many of these perverts are running free..
These are the ones that need to be put to death or locked up for the rest of their lives ( no possible parole) this includes the mother and anyone else that knew what was happening and did nothing...
I am sick of the judges that let them out early, paroled, or probation..
What has happened to our country is backwards, no reason someone would even think of doing this to a baby..
Shame on us as a country for being so soft, shame on us.

Lnj   November 19th, 2009 9:28 pm ET

i love you nancy you keep it real...both of them should be tourcherd burned, beatend, frozen, shot, stabbed...who would dare take a gorgeous 5yr old and do something so ignorant r.i.p beautiful baby girl gone but never forgotten

Denise Casey   November 19th, 2009 9:28 pm ET

To see the grief in Shaniya's father's eyes made me sob for him. To lose a child, period, is the most horrible thing for anyone to go through, but for it to be so vicious and discusting must make it that much worse for her father and family. As for the woman they call her mother, she should recieve life in prison simply for not protecting her child, which is exactly what a mother shold do!

danita littlejohn   November 19th, 2009 9:29 pm ET

Stop placing that rapist and murderer's picture next to that precious little girl's picture. Shaniya does not deserve this. Everytime I see his face I become angry when he smiles and smirks. I have never asked God to bestow vengeance on another human being but I am praying for vengeance on everyone involved in the wrong doing to this beautiful little girl. I may be wrong but I am human and this is how I feel. I feel sickened. What a mother.....how could a mother..no..she is not a mother..she is a monster. HE IS A MONSTER. BRING ON THE DEATH PENALTY FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED.

Maggie   November 19th, 2009 9:30 pm ET

Nancy and All....

I wish the blog would give me some peace – hoping it will.

I am haunted by the concept of the baby blanket being thrown
away in the night in the neighbor's garbage and that there
was feces on it and on the railings of biological trailer. I
somehow think there was more going on that what went
on in the motel. I think there was sodomy in the trailer in
front of the mother. I feel the child was old enough to
talk and the bio told the guy to get rid of Shanayia. He
just had to have one more go at her.

Does anyone else feel this way?

ellen   November 19th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

I am disgusted! One other thing that bothers me is the cop on tv during the press conference saying now the family can put it behind them. How? how could you ever put this behind you. I also dont blame the father but he should have insisted on supervised visits, not just giving her to her.

Lisa   November 19th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

This Just Breaks My Heart. Every Time I watch I the show about this case.. I just break down and cry.. After seeing the baby alive and leaving from the hotel I just hoped and prayed that she was going to be fine and that the man that was carrying her was taking her to safety. God Will Punish Them For This. God Bless The Family.

Cecilia Mercado   November 19th, 2009 9:32 pm ET

Pedophiles should all be castrated. If you steal fingers should be cut off and if you kill the death penalty should be enforced. Here in the US the crime never fits the punishment. What is wrong with this picture. There is no such thing as therapy for pedophiles. Men and Women who commit any crime against a chils should be castrated or put to death.

Trudylynn   November 19th, 2009 9:32 pm ET

My mind just can't wrap around how calm he looks when he knows what he is going to do.. He doesn't even hide he or she and then leaving..why would he kill her rather than takaing her home to her mother? I just don't understand how the thinking, the intent and the outcome. I mean he took her for payment ok, but did he immediately decide he was going to kill her too?

j.m.   November 19th, 2009 9:32 pm ET

all of you who are blaming the shanyia's dad have obviously never been through the anguish of deciding to take your little one away from their other parent. There is always that question in the back of your mind if you made the right decision. You can't blame him for trying to do the right thing for his daughter. And in the same argument those same people have probably never been through family court trying to keep your child from the parent you believe is unfit, ESPECIALLY when the unfit parent is the mother. The court almost always gives them a chance. If she was sounding good enough for the dad to give her a chance you better believe the court would have too even if dad was trying to fight it. That's the sad part

Jim   November 19th, 2009 9:33 pm ET

Hi Nancy I love your show you are the best!! In this case, the one with Shaniya , I feel the world is seeing a new sub spieces of human beings . They are just purely sick animals with no remorse . When I see that animal Mcneil in his mug shot Id like to climb right through the television and slice that smirk off his muzzle.

Jim in Angola NY

Trudylynn   November 19th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

My mind just can't wrap around how calm he looks when he knows what he is going to do.. how did having sex with her turn to murdering her. Did he decide he was going to kill her too as soon as he took her?

Afrika   November 19th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

It is truly unbelievable what has happened to the worlds angel. God sent us a beautiful gift and look what was done! People if you see something say something we have to be the voice for children. Nancy possible to position you between Shaniya's photos and the killers... thanks!

Maggie   November 19th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

PLEASE QUIT CALLING THIS WOMAN 'MOMMY" -

She is BIO........NOTHING MORE. She apparently
had no bonding with the child.

It only gives her ego a boost to be called Mommy.
FIND ANOTHER THING TO CALL HER. Please.

Karen A   November 19th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

I'm mad as hell over this whole case and I appreciate you being our voice. I just don't know how you keep it together, I can hear your sadness too just as tears flow down my face for this poor child and her family. You keep giving them hell Nancy!! God bless you!

shawna   November 19th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

what is happening, in our united states, that none of our children are safe any more, this just breaks my heart, everyday i watch the news ans its so sad to see the headlines, and see are children are being taken, hurt, and killed, and some are there own parents, im just so hurt by this, and deeply sadened, to know this and feel, that are children, grandchildren, and every child out there now, is no longer safe.. how did we let this get so bad, and we all need to come forward and make this stop, and make it safe for everyone again, or can it not be done,

annecarrillo   November 19th, 2009 9:34 pm ET

my heart goes out to her dad, i couldnt even imagine a mother doing this. my ten year old child is my life. i would die for her. this little angel didnt deserve any of this. god please be with the family. what a little innocent princess to have to endure this. shaniya you are loved by alot of people and didnt even know how much people care. honey rest in peace and be a little angel for all those children out there. we love u shaniya

nc   November 19th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

When are we going to legislate the proper punishment for this crime? child molesters sit in prison every day and cry and get special treatment because they can't make it in prison...so we accomadate them!!believe me..I work there and see it everyday!!! protective custody..they are alright if they kill them..then they can say they murdered someone..seen it several times..but they murdered a child!!!! they are sorry!!!

tami   November 19th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

my husband says instead of giving the dollar or 3 dollars we give for the presidential fund why dont we use that to build a super max pen for perverts and pedophiles obviously they are not able to be rehabilitated and Shaniyas mother and Mc Neill should be hurt and killed like that poor child was. No they will get the death penalty live in the pen for yrs and yrs and then be put to death HUMANELY.WHY???

cheryl porter   November 19th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

These creeps seem to forget the Bible says it is better to put a cement block around your neck and jump in the sea than to hurt a child. My prayers go out to the father of little Shaniya.

Rex   November 19th, 2009 9:36 pm ET

He should be put to death as soon as he comes out of court. Not 20,30, 40 years from now.

Ruth from Florida   November 19th, 2009 9:38 pm ET

I am so glued to your show at 8pm each night. It is so hard and all I do is cry for Shaniya. May she rest in peace she is a beautiful angel. These two ugly people have no remorse. I hope justice is done for the Shaniya. I work in disney and see children all day long and see how happy they are to be there and all I think about is Shaniya not ever experience all this happiness. Her father took care of her well while in his hands. This must stop. This murderer has no remorse. JUSTICE MUST BE DONE FOR SHANIYA DAVIS. Thank you letting me express my feelings.

Shar   November 19th, 2009 9:38 pm ET

Just because you are a low income family does not mean you are on drugs. I am a low income family and I would not think of doing any thing to my kids. I live for them.
I think it should be a long torture before death for anyone who hurts a child. Get to the fact this is a devil in flesh don't give her the easy out of oh she is a low income person so she is bad. Bull there are rich people that do worse things to more people.

pam jefferys   November 19th, 2009 9:38 pm ET

There will be no "Justice" here, so I say put them both out in the general population, and cigarettes for life to the first one to get to them!!!

Shelia Williams   November 19th, 2009 9:40 pm ET

How can law enforcement hold their emotions ! I would snap out of anger and kill the mother and the kidnapper swear thay tried to run or something. Thay would never have made it to jail, Sorry save the tax payer money.

LadyGood   November 19th, 2009 9:41 pm ET

The rapist and murderer should be castrated! And die a slow and painful
death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nomi Cosby   November 19th, 2009 9:41 pm ET

Hi Nancy... and thank you for covering this case so closely. My question regarding this entire case is why no one at the hotel (the hotel front desk clerk, or room guest) find it suspicious for a grown man carrying a half clothed little girl to a hotel room at 3 or 4 am? Further more, being that rape charges are now present, he obviously raped her in the hotel room....did no other hotel guests hear screams or a struggle?? Why aren't the police questioning the hotel attendant??? I am angry about this entire case, because I feel that the death of Shaniya could have been prevented. Period. Ugh...this just turns my stomach! The monster who did this needs to be put in a room full of Shaniya's male relatives and let them have their way with him!!! The prosecutors better make sure they put this man AWAY for good!

Chantae Davis   November 19th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

first i would like to start by sayn my heart goes to the davis family im sorry this had to happen to such A innocent child who couldt defend herself...This is a shame the mother needs to be chaqrged immediately for this crime she knew what she was doing regardless of what she thaught the outcome would be this was obserd...IM A MOTHER OF FOUR AND NO matter how tough times get nonthin would make me do this these people are insane what is this world coming too Nancy i love how u help find missn kids and help these animals get prosecuted to the fullest!!!

Naomi M.   November 19th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

a leopard dont change over night...,,,, if it wasnt him it would have been sombody else...sure mother, might not have anticipated the baby;s death..but she is dispicable to got that route...i have been desporite in my life...especially on drugs,,,but my children, were hands off!.....no honor among drug addicts....none

Shawn   November 19th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

I am very disgusted to hear about this case. I can't even find the words to explain how I fill. I hope that the mother and the coward killer both rot in hell. I have a 4yr old daughter and I can't imagine what I would do if I got my hands on anyone who was out to harm my child. May she rest in peace.

Alyce   November 19th, 2009 9:42 pm ET

While the fate of this sweet child is a tragedy, I cannot understand the people who 'personalize' it. Is it that your own lives are so devoid of interest and purpose that you get so emotionally involved in other people's tragedies?

sanny   November 19th, 2009 9:43 pm ET

MdNeill charged with 1st Degree Murder/RAPE.
My god,,,,,to rape an innocent baby......what thrill did he get from that?

I feel that the mother should be charged also.....she turned that child over to him and she is an accomplise in this case.

I also feel that this baby was raped and murdered in his van.....many bags of evidence were taken from that van......I think it was the scene
of the crime.

I think DP should apply here.......and while waiting for the needle in his arm or the HOT SEAT........SURGERY SHOULD BE PERFORMED ON HIS PRIVATE PARTS.......maybe forget about the needle and hot seat.......just let him bleed to death.
IMO

Yvonne   November 19th, 2009 9:43 pm ET

I am one that DOES blame the father. So far from watching the news it appears that he has or should I say had 3 children from 3 different women. To me he doesn't look to be hurting that much over the news of Shaniya. Look how well groomed and polished he looks on tv. His daughter was raped and murdered and he actually can keep it together enough to stand in front of the mirror and comb his hair and iron his clothing.

I hope that bastard reads this because it is HIS fault that Shaniya is dead. What in the world possessed him to take Shaniya out of his great looking safe house and turn her over to her drug addicted prostitute mother? What was the reason behind this? Did he need more time and freedom to have more one night stands and inpregnate more women?

To Shaniya's father: Please kill yourself. You really need to die a horrible death. Do me the favor and end your life. I am sick of seeing your face on tv.

Nicole Belcher   November 19th, 2009 9:43 pm ET

I Had to break down in tears when I saw the pain of Shaniya's father. I can't even try to know the pain he is feeling..My prayers are with him and his family.
I took a trip down to Fayettville on Wed. As I drove down route 87 I thought of that little girl and how much she had to suffer..
I want to see justice for her, not just punishing the man who killed her but the mother who think is the real murderer. She should be charged the same as he is to be and worse.

greg haney   November 19th, 2009 9:44 pm ET

we should kill them tonight / put them in a chair pull the switch and be done these people dont deserve to live/

Annette   November 19th, 2009 9:44 pm ET

I am sickened beyond belief by this case. My heart goes out to little Shaniya and her TRUE family, not her mother who is a disgusting waste of human life. There is NOTHING that would ever make me hand over one of my children to someone.

The thought of what Shaniya's final hours of life were like is heart breaking. I can't think of a punishment harsh enough for the people involved in her death and what led up to it.

Shar   November 19th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

I would like to say to the Dad you did what you could. We don't always have all the information to do things right. God has his child now she can never be hurt by any one again. She knows you love her for ever she sees you and knows your pain. We will never forget our angels taken so young in such a painful way.

Naomi M.   November 19th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

And as a recovering drug addict, i can recall lying to my family swearing i have changed...the father wanted to believe...i dont blame him...but somebody should have checked upon lil momma...somebody...just to make sure she was safe....i have known folks who sold drugs..and raised children...but to pimp ur own child out to some sorry a** clown...there was more to this story than what's portrayed.......church

Marrigan   November 19th, 2009 9:46 pm ET

How can they charge McNeil with kidnapping if Antoinette gave Shaniya to him?

JORDAN   November 19th, 2009 9:47 pm ET

This case should open up alot of eyes in the justice system this man who has done this hideous crime should not have been on the streets. I believe everyone is who is and will be charged should fry together.

Lori   November 19th, 2009 9:48 pm ET

This case is another reason why at 45 years of age I am back in college. I plan after having my law degree to get seriously involved in legislation so there are rules followed to protect these inocent children. Our Country let this poor little girl down and many like her. Shame on all of us. There are so many people out there that would have taken care of her. ANYONE AND EVERYONE on Govt assistance should be drug tested and the homes should be visited where it is a questionable living situation. I know the ACLU will have issues with it but you know what tough! Nothing is free and right now the whole welfare program needs serious overhaul.

Nana   November 19th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

This is a very sad case. I think DSS needs to drug test the people on welfare. This will prevent a lot of abuse on children, (most not reported). My prayers to Shaniya's family.

Maggie   November 19th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

I hope they find Shanayia's finger prints, or dna mixed
with the feces on the rail may prove that there were
crimes conducted in the trailer. I would bet on it.

Ms. Dallas   November 19th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

My prayers go to Shaniya's father. I am truly sad today along with many others. I know first hand that a mother whom has lost custody of her children should not be permitted to regain custody and/or visitation of any sort. The parent is usually mean and abusive on many levels. Doing cruel things many couldn't even imagine and the mother usually has no real connection to the child whom hasn't been a regular in their lives for a period of time. Almost seeming to be disconnected from what is their child. I know this seems strange to understand to most because we believe mother's should have an unconditional love for their kids but in reality they don't but her mother and the evil twisted demon accomplice should be executed by the criminal justice system. That baby was beautiful and was well loved and kept by her father it was obvious by the many photos on tv. Shaniya will always be remembered in my family. May God Bless

Very Upset   November 19th, 2009 9:51 pm ET

First of all I have several words to describe these idiots...most of which would not make the post so I will keep that part in. What about the justice system!!! Ok what is clear is that from the 911 calls we know the mother says she put her child "back to bed at 5:30 A.M."... McNeill checked into the hotel with Shaniya at 6:11 A.M....I live in Fayetteville and without a law degree or experience on any police force I can put together the fact that the mother handed her child off. There was only enough time for McNeill to drive from the location were Shaniya was living to the hotel so......duh....charge the mom as well...or even better take away there human rights just as they did with little Shaniya and kill them both!!

DJ   November 19th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

This is so sad. My heart goes out to the dad & his family. When will people understand having a child or children is the hardest job one will ever have. If I were the dad I would want this man & the mom dead! How can anyone hurt a child! This little girl looks just like my niece. I hope the family know they are in a lot of people's prayers, and be strong the wrong doers will get their's in the end. This child is in gods hands, and can never be harmed again. Rest in peace you beautiful child.

greg haney   November 19th, 2009 9:52 pm ET

i am a taxpayer dont take my money and feed this bastard or the mother /kill them they deserve no less

Mary   November 19th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

This is such a devasting situation. The mother and anyone that is connected with this crime should not be allowed to waste tax payers money. Talking about a time to kill, this is truly a time. Just give them the death sentenced. Get it over within a matter of weeks, this is more than they gave this beautiful young angel that was given by God. May God be with this family.

BEVERLY HEMINGWAY   November 19th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

I can't express my feelings enough about this case.I have kids of my own I can't see how a mother could hand a child over like that for drugs. Lord forgive me for how i'm thinkin right now,but they were'nt thinkin when they killed and raped her but I feel that they both need the DEATH PENALTY.Some people don't know that kids are a blessing. All i can say right now is Shaniya is in a good place right now and I'm praying for the father and her sister and brother. Julia Dilliard   November 19th, 2009 9:53 pm ET

As a former school based psychotherapist, I can attest to the fact that parents receiving Medicaid and other public assistance to NOT have to submit to drug testing. My agency and I attempted to get our legislature to make parenting classes mandatory, but that did not work either. As a people we need to demand that our government/social services provide much, much better oversight over parents and other caregivers who demonstrate any level of neglect of their children. I worked with a beautiful child for 3 years who was chronically clinically depressed and suicidal. Why? Her druggie mother did little to nothing to parent this child and left her to take care of her 3 younger siblings. The child was absolutely overwhelmed with the level of neglect and responsibility heaped upon her. I called child protective services MANY times and begged them to get involved. Their response?? The child has to literally be bleeding before we can get involved. My response? She is hemorraging emotionally!!! Help her before she succeeds with a suicide!!! It took another year before child protective services removed the child from the home. During that year, the "mother" consistently refused to return my calls, refused to attend parenting classes, and continued to abuse drugs and ignore her children. Just ONE of thousands of such cases.

Victoria J   November 19th, 2009 9:54 pm ET

Sorry..I am sitting here listening to the Manager of the Mobile home park and she knew what was going on the that park..you rent there...You know that there are these people that are doing drugs and doing activities that are not legal but you are sitting on this show and acting like you are just finding out that this is happening...I live in Fayetteville and believe me if everyone else in Fayetteville knows...she knows also and it is a shame that you are acting innocent to what goes on where you are the manager...be for real lady...speak the truth

LadyGood   November 19th, 2009 9:54 pm ET

He should be forced to live and suffer the rest of his life!

Shar   November 19th, 2009 9:55 pm ET

When I was 11 my step mom beat me CPS was called out. The lady who came out spoke to my step mom and came bake to me and said, if you git into it with her again you should try to kill her. She went on to say my step mom told her if she gets the chance she is going to kill me. Then she left me and my brothers and sister in the house. I was 11 I got beat till I was 14 and about the same age for my brothers and sister. I lived in Grand Rapids MI I hate that CPS they could had saved us. We had to save our selves God is good

Like I said in an earler email, judges need to start passing sentences of castration on these sickos who touch children!! THEN, maybe they'll start thinking TWICE before doing it! As far as the sick mothers who are in ANY way involved, I am confident that the convicts she is about to join in prison will take GOOD care of her!!!

Claudia   November 19th, 2009 9:55 pm ET

This poor child. I am heartbroken. I am so confused about the hotel. 5 year old children can walk. He was carrying her, I imagine, so she would not run away. Who checked him in to a room? No luggage, no pants or shoes on the child? RED FLAG!!!! Did the police check the room he was in for any evidence? When were the police called to the hotel??? Was she crying when he checked in? Did they question the front desk staff???? My heart goes out to her family. I hope they nail these murderers. Is John Walsh going to do a show about this?

charlotte cowell   November 19th, 2009 9:55 pm ET

The panel on Thurs. eve was just down right sick. There is absouluty no reason to give the man a break. Plus the Mother is one piece of work and should be charged with 1st degree murder. I also have a problem with the father that gave this little girl to a women that that he knew lived a life style that wasn't condusive to raising a child.

Sherri Cecil   November 19th, 2009 9:56 pm ET

I hope and pray they charge this woman with the murder of her child. Also I blame the father, he should have checked the conditions where his child would be spending the 5 weeks he was gone. Also where were the grandparents of this child, you can't tell me he didn't have someone else take care of his child while he was gone. For that matter if I knew that my ex was living in a pig sty I sure in the heck wouldn't let my daughter stay there or did he even check where she was staying? MY heart aches for that poor child. But there had to be a reason why the father got custody in the first place. I can understand why he would give the child over to her if there were signs of child abuse in the first place.

Tara   November 19th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

I cannot wrap my brain around the idea of selling any of my children, or any child that crosses my path, to another human being for sex. I cannot understand the thoughts of a man who would take part in sex with a child. How does this sort of thing take place. I can imagine how the father feels, sending his daughter back to this woman only to have this to deal with. Thoughts and prayers to those suffering. It is with high hopes that those responsible will admit their involvement, plead guilty and accept responsibility...a long shot, I know.

SONDRA BURNS   November 19th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

Shanya`s mother should and better be charged with murder, she does`nt need to live. the welfare poeple should of done more, they could see she was using drugs. she should of been turned to police, before they gave money her money.

I SAY HANG THEM BOTH!!!!!!!

barb57   November 19th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

I am sitting here watching the show and I can't stop crying. Every time I see that video of that baby in his arms it upsets me so much I can't even put it into words. Those two pieces of garbage both need a bullet right between the eyes. I don't care what all the defense lawyers say about this case, there is no excuse, no defense for either of these two.

Carroll A Thorn   November 19th, 2009 9:58 pm ET

A war on women & children!!! Absolutely there is!!! We are living in a society of a "Felon Friendly" society. We're so concerned about being sensitive about the criminals that the victims are ignored. Why should people that commit crimes against women or children be afraid? Once prosecuted, what do they get – a life of guaranteed meals, clean housing, etc.! As far as their are concerned – they're going to get off and released. Short of public execution – these low lives deserve nothing but death!

I'm tired of my taxes going to support the scum of the earth. If we made an example and executed more of the scum as soon as the crime is committed – we wouldn't have to worry about them being released to commit these crimes again. We treat the scum too good in this country – it's time to step up and make an example!

By stopping the possibility of these crimes being committed again – how many women and children would we protect?

Marilyn   November 19th, 2009 9:58 pm ET

To me there is something a little strange about this little girls father. Why would he let the Mother take her when he knew she was a nut and lived in a pig sty? Maybe wrong, but he just doesn't seem right

Alisha   November 19th, 2009 9:59 pm ET

Everytime I see this Beautiful little angel's Photo she reminds me so much of my baby niece. And to know everything that she has been through puts a knife in my heart and it hurts so much. This is a BABY a human that couldn't fight back. The worst of it all is for a "mother" to let her baby go through this and another man Take her babys life away what mother makes her a mother? This is such a tragedy and something that really makes me very angry inside because Shaniyah didnt have to go through this. How could this happen? What is soo hard about protecting your child. Her so called mother Deserves that same justice as this pervert who knew what he was doing. This story makes me sick and everyday I look at my 4 year old and he's the most precious gift I've ever been given. I Hurt for Shaniya and Her Siblings and Father. I saw him cry and It touched me in my heart. I pray that theres no mercy for the mother nor mario.

Tyson Hinton   November 19th, 2009 9:59 pm ET

Nancy I love you for what you do and everything you stand for, I want to say to the man who ignorantly said the mother did not know about Mario's back ground need to find a new line of work. Even I know she had to know about his back ground, that's why she did not give yourself up for the money she owed. She gave her baby up to pay a price that she should have paid herself. This really hit home for me cause im a single father and believe it or not my daughter name is Shania Nicole Hinton, and my daughter's mother's last name is davis. What can we do to make you a judge Nancy, cause I think all three need to be sentenced to life. the mother, the boyfriend, and Mario...

Shar   November 19th, 2009 10:02 pm ET

OK now you all say test the people on welfare and it will stop most of the crime. How do we test the rest of you. Are you saying if you are poor you can't be any good? Please wake up $ has nothing to do with it any one can do this no matter your money your status in life. Evil in everywhere you took God out of school and you let the devil in. WAKE UP AND GET OF YOUR HIGH HORSE PLEASE

Rose   November 19th, 2009 10:03 pm ET

j.m.   November 19th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Yvonne it is so much easier said than done, really. You have honestly no clue on how much guilt and anguish is involved when you decide that you WON'T allow your child to be with their other parent. How do you make that decision? It is one that will last a life time and you never want it to be your fault that they don't have a relationship with their parent, what if you made a hasty decision? What if they really have changed? what if they have their crap together? you never know.
I myself have made that decision and i know in my heart I did the right thing, but I am sure the question will come up later in my childs life and I better be damn sure I made the right decision-to keep my daughter from having a dad for her whole life?
The courts would probably have heard the same plea that the dad heard from the mom and probably would have given her visitation and rights. That is just the truth. They would give her a chance. And then we would be blaming the state, right? Dad could have fought the court tooth and nail and they would still let the mom see the child. He would not have been able to avoid this. I'm sorry you just have to think about that. Wishing that he kill himself! Try fighting to keep your baby from a "bad" mom, it doesn't happen until something like this comes up and then everyone says dad should have said no.

Whitney   November 19th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

What baffles me is what the connection of Carey Lockhart-Davis is? Is she related to Antoinette Davis? The names are very similar and I know that Carey is the brother of Shaniya’s father. I am still in shock I cried for hours over a poor precious soul like her to be taken away in such a manner. That scum/ murder just frightens me and it is sad that it took the loss of an angel to get him behind bar. I will pray for Mr. Lockhart and please stay strong.

Jeri   November 19th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

I am soooooo heart broken I can't stop thinking about what this precious little angel was thinking. I wish I could save every child. I hate what these people do to these kids it is beyond horrible. Then we treat this monster as if they have rights. What rights did this angel NONE. We have to pay for these pieces of scum to be protected in jail who protected this baby. Let them out in the general population and televise that.

This story has saddend my heart. But what I am trying to understand why the father didnt trry to get custody of his child. The mother was a drug addict and lived in poor conditions. The father looked to have been living in a nice upper middle class neighborhood. I feel that more father need to step up and not be afraid to be a single father. So can someone please address that. We are putting alot of attention on this mother that clearly was not fit to raise a child. When are we going to put attention on the other parent (father). If he knew that all of things were going on at what point is it his responsibilty to make sure that his child is safe from harm. I have a cousin that has custody of both of his children since birth a boy and girl. The things he didnt know he asked. So I need for more fathers to not just be sperms donors, but be a active role in your chldrens live. This is a sad day! May God Bless The Child.

JorgeH   November 19th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

We noticed Shaniya's right eye in the picture at the Hotel where she is looking up. It looks puffy or perhaps swollen like a black eye. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also, can't the mother be charged with child endangerment for using drugs while pregnant?

How can the father leave his 5 year old daughter for a month with someone like the mother living in a trailer that has been called a pigsty. Didn't he visit her during that month?

It seems to me that this child was continually handed over to somebody else. Didn't the father see the trailer when he brought the child to the mother? And, if he didn't, it was his responsibility to know the condition of the place where his child was staying.

Rachelle   November 19th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

There are simply no words to express how horrified I am by this story. Particularly because I find it so incredibly unbelievable–that a 5-year-old child would be sold into prostitution! I keep checking Nancy's pages with hope that the new developments reveal that this was a mistake, perhaps she was actually kidnapped or some other reason to explain how this man came into the possession of this child. After all, the mother could not have possibly just handed her over? Is it just me or do the crime stories just get worse and worse by the day. Has our morality completely eroded? What remains sacred in this country? If she despised her daughter so much, why not simply return her to her father? Prostitute yourself to settle the drug debt? My heart and soul go out to the family and friends of this once vibrant little girl. My prayers are with you.

denise   November 19th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

MAYBE THE DAD SOULD HAVE CHECKED OUT THE MOM A LITTLE MORE BEFORE TURNING HER OVER TO HER. SECOND CHANCES WITH YOUR CHILD I JUST CANT BELIEVE HE LET HER GO STAY WITH HER OVER NIGHT AND IN THE DUMP WHERE THEY LIVED. HE PROVIDED A NICE HOME FOR HER SO WHY THE LACK IN JUDGEMENT AND WHY WASNT HE CONTACTED WHEN SHE STOPPED ATTENDIN HER SCHOOL. HE IS TO BLAME TOO. I HATE TO SAY THAT HE IS THE ONE THAT HAS TO LIVE WITH HIS CHOICE. I MEAN SHE JUST HAD GOT OUT OF PRISON WASNT THAT A LITTLE TO FAST TO LEAVE SHANIYA WITH HER ALONE.

Julia Dilliard   November 19th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

zozo, your post really touched me. I'm so sorry to hear about your childhood and all that you went through. I truly hope that you sought counseling when you were old enough to do so. Every child deserves to be loved, cherished, and nurtured. I applaud your desire to volunteer at a home for abused children. I know that you will bring healing to them and to yourself as well. Finally, if you are a Christian, please remember that Christ died for our sins..all of them. He offered himself up to take all of the pain of the world past, present and future. There is no need for you to suffer any longer. Christ loves each and everyone of those poor children. He wants to take away your pain, not prolong it. He will bless you and work through you to relieve the suffering of those children to whom you are called.

that innocent little angel. my eyes tear up everytime i look at those beautiful pics of her. in cases like these i thank goodness i have my daughter by my side and it makes me love her even more. cant even imagine how a monster could hurt a baby.

Jen   November 19th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

This case has just made me so upset I think everyone in it has dropped the ball. I’m wondering why Shaniya’s mother and father split up. If he knew the mother herself was using drugs and if she was using when they were together. If she was at the time why he would ever let her go stay with the mother I don’t care if she is the mother or not I would not be taking a chance with my child. They also stated the mothers living conditions were horrible so you can’t tell me the father didn’t see it when he dropped her off. They also stated the aunt visited didn’t she see this. I’m sorry but when it comes to your children you are supposed to protect them and keep them out of harm. It seems like everyone was so involved in living their own lives they forgot about the children. This poor child Shaniya will pay for it with her life while everyone else gets to continue to live their own.

Reenie   November 19th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

This is one of the most horrible cases of child abuse I've heard. I know cases of bad mothers but their children still want to be with them. That is mommy and children want their mommy. In this case the woman that gave birth to this child deserves the worst punishment. She handed her child over to be raped, abused, and whether she knew it or not, to be killed. She is not the first drug addict mother to give their daughter or son up for sex to pay for their drugs. Drug addicts should not be allowed to raise or have unsupervised visitation of children. It is sad but we have to protect the innocent from their own family members.
I hope they both get the death sentence.

Tina   November 19th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

Nancy,

First of all this was a terrible crime and the child did not deserve what happen to her. I have several concerns and info to add:

1. Why is no one concerned why the father sent this child to leave in Sleepy Hollow Trailer Park? Anyone who lives here in the Fayetteville area knows that this area is considered the worst of the worst.

2. The landlord stated tonight the place was nasty...She is a slum lord and enables such grimey people to live such a way. I bet she has 20 more trailers in the same area that may not even have electricity or water. I hope she enjoyed her 5 minutes of fame. She has responsibilty in this as well.

3. Back to the father. He not only left this child in hell but left the state on business. I am sure the money he made those weeks was not enough to replace his daughter. By the way...he has a terrible background too. He is known as a gambler and womanizer. He has more than 2 kids. Several children from what I understand. He does not see them. I guess this baby cramped his style.

4. The mother or the person who gave birth to this angel is not worthy to see the outside world again. I believe she should live the rest of her life behind bars and suffer the same abuse her child received.

5. Last but not least. Mario McNeill ...He to should live in prison the rest of his life and suffer rape as this innocent child did in her last days on this earth.

There are no innocent by standers in this case. Everyone knows that Sleepy Hollow is not only a low standard of living, it is dangerous. People are scared to go there. Everyone knew it! You can not think someone is doing good for themselves and live there. It is drug
infested neighborhood. Ask anyone that lives in Fayetteville. The area is off limits to soldiers that are from the near by Army base.

May Shaniya RIP

Tina

mlssbrzzs   November 19th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

I have been thinking about Shaniya since we found out Monday about her fate. I think no matter what percautions we take as parents there is always a chance that something like this can happen to your child when you are not around. It is ultimately the school systems fault for knowing that Shaniya was a regular student and her attendance abruptly stopped. This was a definate red flag that should have been addressed to her primary caretaker, her father. Did Shaniya's aunt notice anything out of the ordinary when she would pick Shaniya up on the weekends? I know she was practically her stand in mother. We have been keeping Shaniya and her family in our thoughts everyday. We should have a one strike and your out law for child predetors. It has been proven that no matter how much these freaks are rehabilitated there is a greater chance that they will re offend.

DEAREST NANCY GRACE.....GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR MIRACLE BABIES AND YOUR WONDERFUL HUSBAND....YALL ARE A WONDERFUL GOD GIVEN EXAMPLE OF THE WAY FAMILIES SHOULD BE IN THIS COUNTRY AND WORLD....I WAS SICKENED BY THE STORY OF LITTLE PRECIOUS CALIE ANTHONY AND THE DEVIL MOTHER SHE HAD,,,,BUT THIS WITH SHANIYA DAVIS ABSOLUTELY BLOWS ME AWAY....HOW MUCH MORE EVIL CAN THIS COUNTRY CONTINUE TO LET GO BY THE WAYSIDE. DON'T YOU KNOW THE LORD IS LOOKING DOWN AND TRYING TO DECIDE WHEN ALL THIS HAS TO STOP TO HIS CHILDREN OF HIS WORLD....MY QUESTION FOR YOU ABOUT THIS CASE IS WHY NOT A CAPITAL MURDER CHARGE INSTEAD OF FIRST DEGREE AND THE BIG QUESTION IS WHERE ARE THE TAPES FROM THE MOTEL WHEN HE WAS LEAVING WITH THIS POOR CHILD.....WE CAN ONLY PRAY THAT SHE DID NOT SUFFER VERY LONG AT THE HANDS OF THIS DEVIL MOTHER AND DEVIL MAN....THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO....YOU INSPIRE ME TO WANT TO HELP TO STOP THIS ABUSE AND VIOLENCE IN SOME SMALL WAY...ALL WE CAN DO IS PRAY FOR JUSTICE IN THE BIGGEST WAY....THE THREE SQUARES IN MY BOOK SHOULD ONLY BE BREAD AND WATER!!!!!! AT THE MOST...TAKE CARE....YOU GO GET UM SOUTHERN GIRL

Katherine   November 19th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

There are two parents responsible to keep their child safe. If one is immature then the other one needs to stand up the plate and be the mature one. Just as the mother handed the child to a druggie, he turned the child over to a pregnant drug addict. He should be held responsible in some percentage for endangering the welfare of a minor. My heart goes out to that 5 year old child. What she must have gone through for the past 5 weeks. Not seeing her dad, living with a strange mother. I can only imagine that she felt that no one cared for her. Her dad gives her to her mother and then doesn't come to visit her. If that were me, I would think that my parent didn't care.

Ericca Porch   November 19th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

This story really breaks my heart. I have a five year old daugther and I cant see myself or even think about giving her up to a grown man for payment of a drug debt. I am so sick and tired of young children being harmed by the hands of people who are supposed to protect them. This mother and this man do not have a conscience. I hope they both butn in hell. What is wrong with our judical system. By the looks of this punks rap sheet he should have been in prison. I have seen people go to prison for lessor crimes than what this punk has committed. As for the mother, she should not have a trial, take her to the electric chair. Both of them should fry.......Rest in peace little angel Shaniya.

Christy Jacobs   November 19th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Dad has just as much of Shaniya's blood on his hands as the scumbags who committed the crimes against her.

Hi Nancy,

Like everyone else that has written in, I too am very saddened by this story. I watch your show every nite, just to see updates on Shaniya's outcome. I don't have any children, but I have a 7 month old niece and I just don't understand this at all. This beautiful little baby did not deserve this. A parent should protect there children at all cost.

Mary T   November 19th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

When is there going to be a change in our judicial system to rid the world of the scum who continually prey on the innocent, especially children? Predators and pedophiles receive minimal sentences and are released out into the public to repeat their nasty crimes.....and why? It is because they have rights too (@&##(&*$) As I see it you give up all rights after you are convicted. Most of these folks get a lawyer at the taxpayer's expense, serve a minimal sentence which includes food, water, medical treatment, counseling and for some a free education...all at the taxpayer's expense. What does the taxpayer get......the opportunity to have these B******s move in next door and prey on the innocent. Godfearing people should demand better legislation to ensure that the general public is not subjected to the heinous, sick actions of people like McNeil. Rest well sweet Shaniya in the arms of the angels.....and forgive all of us for not protecting you from the wrongs that were committed against you.

Marilyn   November 19th, 2009 10:49 pm ET

Day after Day we hear the same stories and they leave these sick people roam the streets. It is sick. To me there is something strange about the father. Why would he let this child go back to the Mother when he knew she was a nut , hung out with perverts and druggies, if he didn't know he should have found out before he sent her back. As to the people involved, the Killer, the Mother and anyone else involved they should be executed next week.. Ten years ago I did not believe in capital punishment, today as soon as they are proven guilty they should be executed., they do not deserve to be on the face of the earth

Jackalyn Strachan   November 19th, 2009 11:09 pm ET

My heart cry's for this little girl...some how I feel a bond with her....I cry like I knew her personally....How ever I have a granddaughter the same age, and I feel I would have to go to HELL....Because I don't think I could let them live...GOD forgive me for my thoughts......May they both get the death penalty...nothing less...My condoles to Shaniya's father and family....SHANIYA R.I.P....life gone to soon....GOD have you I know in his loving arms.

Nancy I won`t to thank you for following up on the baby shanyia`s case may God bless you . ihave a little niece who look just like her and grandkids also. my thoughts on this is I wish i could get my hands on both of them animals, they both need to be put to death I did1nt believe in the death penalty in this case yes. I was on drugs, has been clean and sober for 18 years and i wish anyone would have came near my daughter doing that time,so that was no accuse. also they should put both of them out in the general population so the living explicit be beat out of them better yet tie both of them up let some one rape and sodomize them and put their bodies out near some deer carcasses. also who was at the motel that night .was not they trained to regonize when something is not right.and could you please block their pictures out I hate looking at them, again thank you because this case never would have come to light had you not stayed on it. I hope you mom is doing well.

Lisa   November 19th, 2009 11:29 pm ET

The mother should be charged with this. She sold her daughter. What now, lawyer will jump to her defense in all this saying she was an addict. This girl raped, totured in my eyes for other's pleasures including her own mother and she now is at rest. I hope mommy get's her share in jail and this man. The laws must change and should get tougher. How much more taxes are we going to pay for these types of people that live off the system and do what they want then go to jail only to live off the system again. It's a disgrace.

ms lewis   November 19th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

This just doesn't add up and I think that we will soon find that we are dealing with an over zealous prosecutor that will be so focused on one suspect that all others will not be available once the one currently focused on is removed. You don't sell your child for sex then call the police and report her missing, never trying to coverup. This lady is an addict with no criminal record.
And if the drug-dealer kidnapped the child then how can she be given up for sex? Or if she was given up for sex(human trafficking) then how can she be kidnapped? Can't be both!!!!!!
The investigators know what hotel room that the drug dealer and child were in and there should be plenty of evidence of semen and other types of DNA in the room but why haven't we heard anything to that effect.
Take one moment, put yourselves in this mother's place and imagine if this mother really did wake up to find her child missing and all of this follows, she's accused by cops of selling her missing baby for sex and arrested, my God, I almost hope the cops are right b/c if they are wrong, wow.

Don't be so quick to judge all the facts are out. Remember Jon Benet and her poor mother, we killed her due to our premature judgment and witch-hunt!
God bless and comfort this family.

Dot Hicks   November 19th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

Nancy Grace: you are looking starting with step three. The father handed the little angel over to a drug addict !! the the drug addict hand her over to a pervert. The father left town and never called his daughter??? Not once. This is the angel he put the tears on for. Look really close to his actions.
Look at all the children he has. Do a background hunt. How may does he pay for? How many mothers are involved with all his children. So I feel this child was in the way. So he plopped the child over to a drug mother. And put her Aunt in the possition of the angles last words. wow This man is not an upstanding person. He then sees his son talking to CNN and he comes and stands behind him. Nancy Grace I know you are watching him too. I hear it in your voice. I am not sticking up at all for the animal and tramp. But this father is not clear in anyway.
If you love your child so very much. You at least call her even if to say good night. Being you are testing the birth mother. You should have called every night. By not calling that is nelglect for one. Puting a child in the way of possible danger. Leaving town and putting the angel with a drug user. NO this all does not sound right. I watched the sister and brother. And as they talk about this little angel. No tears. Now you just learned your baby sister was killed. and then you find out who had taken her into a motel. Who can talk so clearly? The mother is guilty the baby killer is guilty but the Father is the most guilty for even giving her over to the mother.

Justice for all   November 19th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

I am an African American female and I am sensitive to the history of lynching in this country. That being said, this son of a B@@@h should be hung in a public square. That piece of trash mother should be swinging next to him. This angers me beyond words. Sick, twisted pieces of trash. I'm tired of these crack heads using addiction as an excuse. Anyone who gets hooked on drugs in this day and age is stupid to begin with. If you make a conscious decision to get hooked, you should have to suffer the consequences of your actions. I'm sick of this politically correct world that we live in. These people are animals who need to be put down.

Britney McCall   November 19th, 2009 11:32 pm ET

i just wanna say this is a sad story and i feel for that lilttle girl who was helpless and who was only a baby.. Her mother deserves everything and anything that happens to her while she is in prision .. I mean come on your own baby.. someone that is supposed to be loved and cared for how can people take another life espeically a beautiful hepless child .. Mario deserves the death penelty and so does her mother they:ve had a life and hers was only begining

nora   November 19th, 2009 11:32 pm ET

I think they all should get the death penalty

ms lewis   November 19th, 2009 11:33 pm ET

How did the cops conclude that the baby was given up for sex? How was talked to to form these allegations? What is the source? Did the mother say that was the case? Did mario mcneal say that?

s. Washington   November 19th, 2009 11:37 pm ET

Nancy thanks for looking out for our precious angels that God was generous enough to give us. The death penalty is too good for both of the scumbags that was involved with this poor baby's death. Thank God Shanaya don't have to endure any more pain from her monster of a suppose to be mother!!!

Fbenites   November 19th, 2009 11:39 pm ET

RIP sweet angel. SHAME ON THE LAWYERS THAT WILL BE DEFENDING THESE ANIMALS. ANIMALS LIKE THESE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED RIGHTS. THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY! SEND THEM TO JAIL AND LET "GENERAL POPULATION" SERVE THEM THEIR JUSTICE!

Lisa   November 19th, 2009 11:40 pm ET

In watching the show this evevning, I am appalled that some lawyers would even say she mis-judged. I am a single mother and for one would not trust anyone with my child male or female or whomever I am dating. The mother used drugs, bottom line. The mother should be charged, she sold her daughter and who the hell would in their right mind would rape a five year OMG it's sickening. The Government is failing us all with our children and it's only getting worse. Bottom line, there is no excuse for this AT ALL. I'm sorry but lawyers also not only protect killers they protect other sickos out there which is sickening. In another country this would be unheard of.

Christy Jacobs   November 19th, 2009 11:43 pm ET

I have lived in Fayetteville for nearly 22 years. Anyone who has lived here for even a short period of time knows what goes on at Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park. Mr. Locklear, Shaniya's father, is no different. Even Mr. Locklear's sister, Shaniya's aunt said she did not get along with Shaniya's mother, Antionette because she didnt approve of the way she parented. Did Auntie think it would be different with Shaniya? To just dump that poor child off at a fecal-ridden, filthy, drug-infested home from living with dad in a beautiful, huge, $280,000 plus home. Where is the logic there? Seems to be like there are several guilty parties here.

mom of 3   November 19th, 2009 11:44 pm ET

Thank GOD for Nancy I love this that she does for the ones thaqt cannot speak for themselves.

I live in the town where this beautiful little girl was found. This whole city in distress over this. This has got to be the most horrible crime ever.

Thank you Nancy Grace, keep on doing what you do,,,,,,,,,,,,

Misty Crittenden   November 19th, 2009 11:45 pm ET

First, I want to say that I am disgusted with this entire situation. There is nothing that can be done with these people involved that would take care of any hurt or pain that they have caused. This world is coming to a terrible, terrible place. I want to say that in the bible.. it states that evil men will become more evil. I think we are seeing what more evil has become.

I also want to say that I think the little girl was raped in her own mothers home. This is why there was feces left on a blanket in the neighbors trash can.

The mother of this little girl will pay a dear price for her decisions, but it will never be enough. The man involved in the rape of this child comes to us with a smirk on his face like he thinks this is funny. He will also get what is coming to him in prison.. He will be raped and taken advantage of. He will be defenseless, and no one will come to his aid.. He will be punished.. It will never bring back the little angel, but she is with God in heaven and her little wounds have healed. My God hold her close...

Meme   November 19th, 2009 11:45 pm ET

I prayed that the little angel would be alive! but I knew in stomach that she wouldn't be. I pary for Mr. Lockhart it is not his fault. I think they should let Mr. Lockhart in the room alone with the BASTARED and let him get a dose of his own actions.I think that every person who hurts a child should be KILLED.Shaniya is only 5 just like my little girl.I have three doughters and my youngest daughter looks just her. I never held my Savannah so tight. I can not belivewhat has happend to such a beautiful little angel. My her TRASH OF A mother and the BASTARED BURN IN HELL.

Susan M   November 19th, 2009 11:46 pm ET

Why is the dad being portrayed as the victim?? Who even is in contact with a woman with a known drug habit, let alone has a child with that person? Even if it was a moment of weakness, who lets the child spend ANY time with this person unsupervised? We all make mistakes as humans, but as a mother of 2 who does right by my own children, who allows their kids to be with a person like this? You are just ASKING for something to go wrong. Was the mother a convenient babysitter? Shame on everyone involved, including the father.

Patti   November 19th, 2009 11:46 pm ET

Every time I listen to this case it makes me sick to my stomach and my heart fills broken. I can not ever imagine any person doing such a horrific crime, to an innocent child who had a whole life of her. Individuals like should have their bodies physically tortured, so they can feel the pain and know what is to suffer.

LaShira Davis   November 19th, 2009 11:48 pm ET

I just want to say that this mess has been going on for so long and I can not believe that people have no souls..I could not sleep when I found out that the little girl was raped and dead. We here about this, but seeing him hold that little girl on the video camera is what made this story so horrified then others. I can not believe that they keep letting these monsters back into our society. I hate this world. It is so dark. Raping and having sex with little kids, it the lowest crime that a They need medicine for these people because a lot of this is going on. They also need stricker penalties for child molesters. My heart hurts so bad. Why would a man would want to hurt a child so little any one could commit..I do not think that I want to have any children. and I do not respect woman that allow this. Someone of the woman know that their men is messing with their children and they stay with them anyway. May their soul rest in hell !!!!

Sharon DeMarco   November 19th, 2009 11:50 pm ET

Nancy,
I can't believe people are giving the mother of Shaniya the benefit of the doubt. She is a drug addict who doesn't care about anything but getting her drug! So sad and horrific that people like this are out there. She needs to be put away for life and Mario needs to have the death penalty!
This stuff goes on all across America every day. We need to put these people away because they will never recover from their addiction and crimes committed. Our tax payer dollars are going to rehabilitating , housing and feeding these people who are just riding the system. As far as I am concerned, we are housing welfare people who are holding crack houses etc... on their low income welfare that they receive. Why can't we get a grip on this? There are so many crack houses across the country, but yet we can't put these people away for long term.
It seems like a no brainer!

Randy E.   November 19th, 2009 11:51 pm ET

What is up with these weirdos? To me they need to be punished severly and immediatly! Castration has been arround for hundreds of years and a case like this should be at least considered, but some people think it's cruel and unusual punishment.Come on?! WE THE PEOPLE need to put a stop to these SCUM BAGS and don't WE think a punishment like that would chage some minds before these IDIOTS kill? CHANGE THE LAWS! Cruel and unusual? What? Just think of what that SCUM BAG put that INNOCENT LITTLE GIRL through. That's why rarely here of these type of crimes in other Countries. they deal with these crimes and SCUM swiftly. Can you imagine what that little girl was thinking the last few moments of her life? I don't think ANYONE can.

Kelly   November 19th, 2009 11:54 pm ET

This innocent, little girl has been on my mind continuously. I wish the photos of her so called mother, and suspect not be shown. It makes me sick to look at them!!!!

Paula   November 19th, 2009 11:54 pm ET

Nancy, How many more children have to be raped and tortured and killed before our Presisent puts a stop to this. Pass a law to send these nasty sicko to the death chambers.I am so sick of turning on the TV and hearing that a child has been molested and killed . Its time to stop this. Death to anyone who does these horrible things to our innocent children. They have no remorse when they do this to these children why should the people have remorse to send them to the gas chamber. I feel these scums of the earth should be raped and tortured every day til death is inviting. PASS A LAW. DEATH TO ALL THAT HARMS A CHILD.

Brook   November 19th, 2009 11:55 pm ET

This mother should also be charged with endangerment of a child,..at the least! I hope she gets what is owed!

Cindy   November 19th, 2009 11:57 pm ET

This entire case makes me sick to my stomach. What is the world coming to when we allow something like this to happen to our children. Cases like this are what make me wish that America was a country that stood by, "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." Both of them should be raped, murdered, and left to rot in the woods. God bless Shaniya's family...especially her heartbroken father.

sara   November 19th, 2009 11:57 pm ET

I have a 5 year old daughter that looks a lot like Shaniya. I cannot imagine what Shaniya went through happening to my daughter. This just makes me sick to my stomach looking at the pictures of this beautiful young girl. I have heavy heart right now and I'm gonna go home and give my little girl and wife a big hug and kiss and tell them how much I love them.

Robin   November 20th, 2009 12:01 am ET

I am so distraught over this tragedy. My heart aches for this poor baby. There are so many things that just do not make sense. According to the property manager, the mother's sister was evicted this morning and the home was filthy. How could any loving father return his child to a drug fiend – (recovering or not)- who lives in a filthy home? How could he have not known that the mother had withdrawn the child from school? The adorable picture of Shania in her Halloween costume appears to have been taken in front of a nice home. How could he have taken her or allowed her to be taken to her mother who purportedly lived in what was tantamount to squalor? The father has other bi-racial children who do not share his last name. Where did he meet Shania's mom and the other mother(s) of his children? I'm not blaming him for Shania's death, but he appears to have been negligent in returning her to her mom. I am so angry with this tragedy. I hope North Carolina executes both the mother and the low-life killer. Swiftly. How many other children have they pimped.

Robyn Warren   November 20th, 2009 12:01 am ET

I have been watching the show every night and keeping up with everything on this case for over the past week. I will say I have never been so upset over a case before. It makes me sick to my stomach. I am a single mother of 24 years old with 3 year old twins, boy and girl, and I sit and look at them sleeping every night as I watch the show and I have literally cried every night just wondering how a mother can do that to her child, I know it may sound crucial but I believe that when someone commits murder in such manner that they should face the death penalty and go about this with the same conditions that they commited the murder and go through everything that the victim went through so they can experience what they did, for example the mother and the man who commited the murder should both experience what that innocent little girl did. I think what gets to me the most about this case is how a mother can bring such a beautiful child in this world and every day remember that first time you held your baby which is a part of you, as I do with my children every day, and then go about these actions just for some money. I just recently started college over the summer sememster for an Associates degree in Administrative Support Technology but the past month I have been looking into transfering schools and changing my degree program to Criminal Justice and I can actually say that this week, I have made my mind up, I contacted another school yesterday and I am transfering schools and going for my Bachleors in Criminal Justice so that maybe one day I can help getting justice for victims such as Shaniya. I feel like this is the best thing for me to do for myself, my wonderful children that I think the lord for every day, and for future victims such as this darling little girl that is not with her father and the rest of her family anymore because of her mother being selfish. Little Shaniya's family that is honest and truely loving is in my thoughts and prayers and I know its hard to look at in this prospective being that you want her with you but just think you all have one of the most precious guardian angels ever and that she will never hurt or feel pain where she is now. God Bless, and Nancy, thankyou so much for being the person you are and letting the world know what kind of sick people are out there and sticking to finding justice for the victims, I can say that growing up I have never really had a role model or someone that I wanted to be like, but as I said before I am 24 years old and I can say I finally have that role model and I thank you for that Nancy, you have pointed me to my way in life, Thank You!!

Frances   November 20th, 2009 12:06 am ET

As cold as this statement may seem, I feel some responsibility for the death of beautiful little Shaniya should be directed towards the child's father. Why was he not aware the biological mother was so behind on her rent at the trailer park that she was about to be evicted, and living in total filth, etc.? and yet he releases his precious little girl to be "cared for" in this enviroment? It is unfathomable to me that he would not investigate the living conditions he was placing his daughter in first and foremost before surrendering her for five minutes, yet alone five weeks!

GJoseph770   November 20th, 2009 12:07 am ET

WHY does it look so much like that *ssh**e is acting as if this is all a big joke? I wish I still worked in a prison – there'd be a few steps found to fall down ... and, no, I WOULDN'T want to see McNeil undergo the death penalty right away – I'd like to see him and Shaniya's mother BOTH die the slowest most painful death possible – and hopefully it would take years and years and years ... let them endure individually the pain they have caused her father, Nancy Grace, the officers and investigators in NC and all of us... How sad for Shaniya... God bless you lil' one... God bless

Mbarajas   November 20th, 2009 12:07 am ET

Life in prison without any protection or segregation. Let them get treated exactly how they treated this little girl everyday for the rest of their life. Sold from inmate to inmate for a pack of smokes.

Leila Lykins   November 20th, 2009 12:15 am ET

Nancy,
First, I just want to say that I appreciate your passion and conviction as you speak for the victims of such terrible crimes such as little Shaniya Davis. Please keep that in mind as I make the following request.
I would appreciate it if you would not show that sicko's picture right along side of Shaniya's. By now, all the faithful watchers of your show know his face and the horrible things that he is accused of doing. I understand the concept...here is the victim and here is the "criminal" and this is what happened. Please, as a mother, speaking to a mother, would you want a child that you know personally to be pictured side by side to the worst person in that little child's life night after night after night?
One more question. This one is sort of OT but not. What about chemical castration? There are so many child predators out there on the streets because it seems that they can spend a few years in jail, only to be let out to do it again. If they were sentenced to chemical castration, wouldn't that keep them from committing such twisted crimes?

Chris   November 20th, 2009 12:34 am ET

This father has three different children by different women. He said Shaniya's mom was a one night stand. How many one niters has he had. The father knew what the environment was when he allowed the baby to stay with the mother. He is on tv crying and playing innocent, but believe me, when the truth comes out, he may be involved also. I've been told that Mario and the mother lived in Charlotte, NC, He committed many crimes in that city, and was always right back out on the street. Many of the felons in Charlotte have rap sheets 40 pages long. It is known that they are allowed to bail out the next day. Someone needs to check out the law enforcement in NC. It is awful, criminals run the state. They know that they CAN get away with murder easily in NC. You may not believe it, but the father is hiding something and IT WILL COME OUT!!! All three are at fault.

Mandy   November 20th, 2009 12:38 am ET

Itried to call the show but can't get through.I live in Fayetteville. The day after Shinaya was kidnapped, I was in a restaurant on Murchison Rd. Shaniya's mother came in passing out missing child flyers. When she left everyone in there was in disbelief at how calm and unemotional she was. She acted nothing like a mother who's precious child is missing. We all had the feeling she knew more than she was saying. I have been flipping between CNN and the local news everyday since this has happened hoping she would be found alive.I want to cry everytime this innocent little girl's picture is shown. I can't believe something like this happened so close to home. It makes you want to keep your kids in the house.

Vicky Davis   November 20th, 2009 12:39 am ET

I say little Shaniya God loves you best. Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. I pray fo Shaniya Family tonight and that they get the justice deservd for Shaniya. My heart is broken and I am feeling for you. Just know there are no tears in heaven. I love you Nancy for all you do I never knew about all of these voiceless children you speak for until I began watching your show. Your are my number 1 and I am your number 1 fan. I watch you every night. My sons know to leave me alone when your show is on. Every time I watch it my heart breaks more and more will the predators every stop, will they ever go away. I pray everynight that God raises his arms and just takes them all away never to return. God Bless you all.

Michelle Allen   November 20th, 2009 12:40 am ET

Wow, the things people do to just get a 3 second orgasam for the drugged out lady what she did for a 3 second high. Try loving your child I bet it will give you a lifetime of happines and an everlasting euphoria that is always satisfied :) and God isn't so bad either!

Traci Briggs   November 20th, 2009 12:44 am ET

First I am a true fan of Nancy Grace, My college age children call every night and always say "You watching Nancy". The Answer is usually YES! I have come to realize in this world there is a lot of evil, and people do horrible things, but what this women has done to her 5 year old child is unthinkable!! I have 5 children ages 23-9 and all i can think about is what was this mother thinking? I have seen hard times with no money or a job but i have NEVER even thought of harming my children. My husband and I lost our first grandchild this past Feb. and what i would not do to hold this child (Aiden) just for a minute. The only thing i can say is that God have mercy on this mother. I feel so sorry for the father, but the mother I can only hope that somewhere, or sometime she will realize what she has done> May God bless this Child! My prayers are with the father and his family, the mother i am not quite sure her faith all i can hope is that justice wil previle on behalf of this beautiful child!!!

Vicky Davis   November 20th, 2009 12:46 am ET

This child and every child has been such a beautiful blessing to our world. It seems children have no respect by any predator. I feel they are all around, next door, on the cornor. you just never know. my heart breaks every single time I hear about yet but another beautiful child taken before her time due to predators, rapist, perves. OMG I pray every night for all of our children and that God keeps them in his loving care and that they felt no pain when they were harmed I believe God lets them feel no harm and then he wraps them up and places them on the wings of his angels to feel pain and sufering no more but love of a father to his children. I pray for those that are lost and have not found there way. I pray for you Nancy that you continue to do the work that alot of us do not have the heart or the knowledge to do and I thank you as a mother of three whom children are now grown but you never stop praying no matter how old they get, we still have to keep a watchful eye over them even when they don't want us to but they allow us too because they know there is nothing like a mothers love or fathers love for there children it never ever goes away. God bless vicky Davis you have my heart as all of these children have a peice of my heart and the families forever.

mike hartuniewicz   November 20th, 2009 12:51 am ET

this type of horrer stories are happening more and more everyday it almost seems like these freaks are trying to out due the last headlines /the fayetteville chief of police made comments about prosecuterers and police and goverment having to get together stop pointing fingers and find answers to avert these crimes, In my opinion these answers start with the drug problem in this country. these people dont know what there doing they are lost in a hopeless life no reality, poverty and no light at the end of the tunnell.this has been a hopeless losing battle since the late sixties and it is getting worse. when the so called war on drugs started we were allways told we have to start at the bottom and work our way up to find the drug dealers and pushers ,that rarely ever happens they keep targeting the lo lifes who have nothing to do with the traffiking and never seem to get to the top dog, what is it going to take for our goverment, prosecuters and police to start at the top and at least get a handle on the problem ,this problem has been worsening for 40 years leading up to stories like this latest one ,it has always seemed to me that whomever should be in charge of this are either scared do get these thugs or they are being paid to look elsewhere i find it hard to believe we cannot get a handle on this after 40 years.it may sound like im rambling but i am sure a million people have said this same thing for 40 years WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE>they call these people druglords or kingpins and drug cartels they are nothing more then scumbags and need to be stopped perhaps the scum that furnished mario with his drug of choice should be charged with accessary to the murder as well ,and i guarentee someone knows who that is.

karin   November 20th, 2009 12:59 am ET

Hi Nancy i just love you.
Iam sorry for saying this ,But i dont understand why the father sent her to this nut case.He knew what kind of life she lived in the pass. And thay say the house was so dirty .Who in there right mind would just have his sister drop his daughter off with out going inside and checking. And iam hereing she was abused for a while while at her moms. Why was no one checking on her for 4 weeks.aunt said last time she saw her was 4 weeks ago when she droped her off. When was the last time dad saw her.Even truck driver come home at least 2 times a month.Something gives me the feel even her dad and his side of the family let lose of this little angle and did not even go back to check on her.Why i think there is more to the store from dads side to.He could of checked on her schooling just by asking her mom what school she was going to .It bothers me so bad daddys side was not keeping a closer eye on what was happening .its like thay dumped her and never even checked anything out.
And the 17 year old is stay with some male friend of the dads where is the aunt.
Who is with the older son.And mom is a realy sick pup.Iam sure there was sign in the pass 4 weeks that no one wanted to see.

Nikki   November 20th, 2009 1:11 am ET

My heart goes out to Shania's family. This little girl was loved so much, the father gave the mom a second chance and now a baby girl is dead. He will have to live with that guilt the rest of his life. We can all ask why didn't he check further before sending Shania there but it will not bring Shania back. She was an Angel and i cry everytime i see her picture. As a mom i could never even think of selling my children, that is so sick!! I hope they both get the death penalty, they ttok an innocent little girls life, why should they live?

Gloria, Montgomery   November 20th, 2009 1:23 am ET

I fill like if they want to rape someone go and get these prosecutes who don't mind giving it up. These baby's they don't know what that is. So i say cut it off, and then put their butts in prison and let them get rape and see what it's like to hurt girls and little boys. And for the mother, she need to be i don't know, there is no words for her in my dictionary.

D.A. Berardo   November 20th, 2009 1:24 am ET

Dear Nancy,
I have so much respect and admiration for all the years you have been a voice for victims. I;ve been watching you since the OJ trial and your strength and convictions have made such an impression on me. My daughter shares your birthday also. I am so sick over what happened to this precious child. What is this world coming to? I personally think that after they took prayers out of the public schools our society has gone down a slippery slope. There is so much evil walking around out there. I don't think these people deserve to live another day. Why not castration? They are so in love with their penis', lets remove them, shove them down their throats and let them choke on them. That would be justice. The woman who gave this baby life should suffer for the rest of her life. Put her in a cage where she belongs. My heart is broken. Pedophiles, pornography, perverts everywhere. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. IT IS TIME FOR US TO GET MAD, STAND TOGETHER AND PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.

Barbara   November 20th, 2009 1:25 am ET

I do feel suspicious of the father in that he left the baby in that environment and didn't check on her. I feel so sorry for the aunt who raised her. There's just something off with the father. However, he didn't commit this crime.
I hope they press murder charges against the mother. God will deal with those who hurt His little ones.Thank you for seeking justice and please don't stop. This is worst case yet-please don't let up.

LEAL   November 20th, 2009 1:26 am ET

Frist of all i would like to say to Shanlyah father my prayers are
with him and his family. I have been on this story since the day
Shanlyah was missing. I just had this gut feeling the so called
mother had something to do with it. I belive in the saying every
dog gots its day.shell get hers im sure of it,once she gets to
prison she;ll wish she was never born. and that s.o.b will also
gets his. I hope they rape him so bad he'll never wanna have
sex again. The death penality would only be the easy way out.
They need to live it day for day

christy   November 20th, 2009 1:26 am ET

I hope justice is served this is so depressing. She is so beautiful. I think the mother, mario, and if anyone else is involved gets the death sentence. For a mother who is suppose to be the childs protector to just let a man have her daughter and then let him have sex with her is just plain sick to me. She is in heaven a much better place that is what keeps me not depressed about this. I just can't inagine the life she lived with her so called mother. I will have the family in my prayers.

LaShira Davis   November 20th, 2009 1:30 am ET

Nancy, I do not think that law makers care too much about the abuse of women and children. It is a joke!! I was reading some of the blogs and it was mentioned that child molesters are protected in prison and you know what? they are. Once someone is raped they never are the same. Just because they are not killed physically that does not mean that mentally and emotionally they did not die. This is not right. America is no better then Africa with all the abuse that is allowed in this country against women and children. Women are not making the laws because you know we would not let their A$$ out of prison. NEVER!!!..child molestors serve an average of 6 years. This is no justice for the victim..This is sad because they can not be rehabilitated. people have to open their eyes. sometimes the fathers are molesting their own children. put them to DEATH!!!!!! No tolerance for this. We are not animals. SATAN IS REAL

If people do not believe in Satan, I do not know what will convince you because Mcneil is pure evil with no soul. NC sucks because he would be still in prison if he lived in Florida. You can not run over a LEO and not have an attempted murder charge.

Vivian M.   November 20th, 2009 1:40 am ET

It hurt me to my soul to think of the horror this beautiful angel must have gone through. It also saddened me to think that this SOB is now laying in a warm jail cell, eating and even breathing. We must put a stop to this WAR against children. We must make a example out of him and send the message to the next child molesting, raping sub-human. However, I find comfort in knowing Shaniya is safe in GOD loving arms with the others angels taken to soon.

We have to come together and demand justice for Shaniya and all the other Shaniya's. We have to hold agencies accountable when they drop the ball, when it comes to protecting our children. We cannot keep allowing these preventable mistake to keep happening. . Also as friends, neighbors, co-workers, family members and just citizens , WE MUST ALWAYS BE ON THE LOOK-OUT FOR THESES PREDATORS AND REPORT ANY AND EVERYTHINGS THAT JUST DOESN’T LOOK OR FEEL RIGHT. REMEMBER IT JUST MAY SAVE A CHILD LIFE.

GOD BLESS YOU, NANCY, FOR BEING THE VOICE

judy   November 20th, 2009 1:43 am ET

Nancy, my heart is broken, this little beautiful girl is gone, I pray for her father, he will need a lot of support. These people are so evil, how do they get this way? I cannot imagine a day without my 2 little boys, when I see stories like this, I rush home even faster to hug them. Thank you for your compassion, we need more awareness of such crimes, and more harsh punishments. God Bless.

kaylin parker   November 20th, 2009 1:46 am ET

Nancy,
I watch your show every night and i just want to say that i love the show and you have the most beautiful set of twins i have seen.
I am a mother of a 2 year old little girl and when i seen this story and continue to see it i cry it breaks my heart that a woman could do that to someone she carried in her womb gave birth to and is part her HOW and i did not call her a mother cause a mother cares for her children and loves them to the end of the world and would do anything to protect them. All i pray is that she is soon and very soon charged with murder and is never able to see daylight again in fact once her ohter child is born and out of her reach hell put her in a cell and forget about her dont feed her and oh yea on that tv she gets to watch that my tax dollars are paying for please play 24 hours a day 7 days a week play a video of her from birth until the day she was 'sold' and make that woman watch it 24 hours a day of that beautiful precious girl whose life she took away so soon.

JoAnn   November 20th, 2009 2:14 am ET

Nancy, God Bless You and all you do to keep these children and their families in the forefront. I pray for all the families involved.

I am heart broken over this madness. What is this world coming to? This is a sorry excuse for a mother, she is worse than Susan Smith, and Andrea Yates, and I never thought that was possible.

These women are NOT "MOTHERS" and they don't deserve to be called animals, EVEN ANIMALS PROTECT THEIR YOUNG.
That "B- – -H" stood before the judge like she was getting a traffic ticket.
Blame it on the alcohol or drugs if you want to, SHE IS JUST EVIL.

Has it come to this?.....A society that values money and things over our children. If that "MONSTER" had robbed a bank several years ago, he would have still been in jail.
QUESTION: Do you think this is the only child he has killed? I think not.
They should pull up all the files of missing little girls in that area, I bet there are more! That man is a monster, and I pray his punishment is just and swift. Jail is too good for him, let's learn to treat salvages as such. He raped a five year old, the whole town should show up at the jail and demand to have him released, then STONE HIM...!
Forget about the" jury of his peers " and having "fair trial" ...what was fair for Shaniya. I know that sounds barbaric, but so was his deeds.
STONE HIM I SAY...the world would be better place!!!

To the officer: Telling the family to "put it behind them", HELL NO they're not going to do that, that's why child molesters are walking our streets now!

R.I.P. precious child R.I.P. in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

victoria   November 20th, 2009 2:17 am ET

I tear up everytime I see shaniyas pictures.God bless the family this story is so tragic. I just hope justice is served for the sake of Shaniya and her loving family. What I do know is that child murderers are not liked in prison...So I know they will have something is store for them when they get there, and they deserve each and every harrasment/taunting they will recieve!!!!!!

erika   November 20th, 2009 2:28 am ET

When are children going to be TRULY protected??? I worked in the field of seeing parents who have no right to be parents, like this rotten "mother". BUT nothing changes!!! These baby makers (won't give them the honor of the word mother) keep having babies... the majority. They continue to affect one child after another for their selfish and dangerous lifestyles. I hear, civil rights of the parents thrown around BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CIVIL RIGHTS of innocent children who CAN NOT protect themselves. WHY does our laws not protect them better. IT IS AN OUTRAGE! So we hear one story after another with so many children failed by the system. Then the heartbreaking and outrageous story of one child is forgotten and off to the poor child victim. Change must happen, everyone must do something. I would like to see these parents sterilzed to ensure they can not hurt another child. NO SECOND CHANCES.

glenda   November 20th, 2009 2:31 am ET

Do they have the death penalty in N. Carolina? Even that would be too good for them...The people of this nation should take this as a wake up call and demand that legislators come up with harsher penalties for human trafficking; Especially when it comes to children! This is a problem in America that is becoming more lucrative than trafficking drugs, due to the fact that penalties are just a slap on the wrist.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

Terry   November 20th, 2009 2:42 am ET

I wish I never had to see Shaniyas' father on TV again. He is no better than the garbage he sent his daughter to live with. How can any of you feel sorry for him. Look at where he lives, and then compare it to where he sent his daughter. As far as I'm concerned, nothing that happened to Shaniya could have occurred if he had not dumped her like an unwanted puppy. Loser. Her father voluntarily gave her up just as surely as her mother did. For those who would try to excuse the father, answer a couple of questions. Would you have delivered your child to such a place? Placed them in the care of such people? Then turned your back to move on with your life? I do not understand why people want to fry her mother and Mario, and absolve her father of any guilt. At the very least, he was negligent. Charge him too.

bdk1   November 20th, 2009 1:52 am ET

The more I learn about this case, the madder I get! Why in the world was this piece of human garbage, who had a rap sheet as long as my arm, out of prison in the first place? Oh, I know why. I live in NC, not far from where this happened at, and our "injustice" system believes that rapists, child molesters and murderers can be "rehabilitated". We are a state full of bleeding heart judges who give these monsters a slap on the wrist, say "oh, what a naughty boy (or girl) you've been" and then give them a sentence that would be akin to grounding a teenager that has broken curfew!! It's like our children don't matter simply because they aren't old enough to vote or hold jobs or go off to war to fight for our country.

Alicia Courtney   November 20th, 2009 2:59 am ET

Nancy, I am a young mother of 3 gorgeous children. I have 4 year old twin girls and a 3 year old son and this case is soooo heartbreaking for many reasons. I live in spring lake nc. I am actually about 15 mins away from Shaniya's Home. Her body was discovered about 5 mins, if that, from my mother's home and my husband and I were driving by when her body was discovered.

The "murderer" in this case is also related to a co-worker of my husbands and we have seen him several times before. My heart goes out to her father and the rest of her family. It's ridiculous how that poor baby was being treated and what kind of mess she was living in. I am only 21, and I ma disabled and I make ends meet and I make sure my kids are cared for and loved. I keep things clean and organized...I don't understand what possesses people to do the things they do.

Not to mention that Antoinette Davis is pregnant right now with Mr. Coe's baby....what's going to happen to the rest of her children now?

God Bless Shaniya   November 20th, 2009 3:02 am ET

This poor poor baby has slipped thru MANY MANY CRACKS....
Many People have Failed this Child...
this is absolutely HEARTBREAKING..

Nancy, what can we do as a community, as a nation, to get JUSTICE for Innocent Children???
This MUST STOP!!!!!!!!!!
I look at familywatchdog.us & sex offenders are EVERYWHERE....
these are ONLY the Registered Offenders...MOST of them ARE NOT

I think as a COUNTRY, We should be ASHAMED that this occurs as often as it does.... And, that we have Sex Predators on every corner... I'm Scared to death to let my children out of my sight....
Why are they not punished accordingly??
WHAT CAN BE DONE?!?!?!?

Pure EVIL ... and, it's EVERYWHERE..

This guy however, not a sex offender... Yet, with his PSYCHO record, he was allowed to get his hands on this baby girl....

God only knows how long this innocent baby has been tortured by those who are given the gift of her life to care for and PROTECT...

*****REST IN PEACE SHANIYA*****

Helen Danddrow   November 20th, 2009 3:02 am ET

I don't blame the father for letting her go to her mother , he will have to live with that for the rest of his life. Why did he not check and see how she would be living before he let her go, this beautiful angel is now in God's hands and is living in a better place. My the mother and the man who killed her rot in prision for the rest of their lives or better yet get the death penalty and don't let him sit on death row for 20 years, find him guilty and be done with it. God Bless and keep you angel Shaniya my prayers will be with you now and forever. We have to step up and protect these innocent children, it happens everywhere and if we as parents and grandparents don't stop it who will. God Bless and Keep you Shaniya , you are one of God's special angels now.

Laicee   November 20th, 2009 3:02 am ET

My name is Laicee and I am a single mother of a daughter that soon will be 5 and she is my light, I sat here and watched this on CNN and my tummy was so sick I had to step out of the room. I hope they both get what is coming to them, but in my thoughts we have already spent enough money on both of them with our taxes I think everyone that is like them or on DEATH ROW need to be in a line and the military be able to use them as targets. My thought are going out to the little girls family.

Hello Nancy,
I am writing with all due respect to you and especially that beautiful little girl. It is a tragic case and I hope that the guilty people are convicted and justice is served.
HOWEVER, I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT YOUR COMMENTS REGARDING THE ROLE THAT 'CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES' PLAYED IN THIS. I SAW YOUR SHOW YESTERDAY AND AS A SUPERVISING CHILDREN'S SOCIAL WORKER FOR 12 YEARS, I AM SICK AND TIRE OF THE MEDIA AND EVERYONE ELSE BLAMING CPS FOR EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD. IT'S EASY TO BLAME THIS DEPARTMENT, WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW THE FACTS. IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN A SOCIAL WORKER, YOU CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW HARD THIS JOB IS. YOU CAN SIT BACK AND BLAME AND MOCK, BUT YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND!

PJM   November 20th, 2009 3:22 am ET

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not, but according to ABC11 Eyewitness News, Fayetteville, NC (as well as other sources), Antoinette Davis is pregnant!!! This story was shocking enough when I first heard of it, now I learn this? Wow... I'm speechless..... then again, I think of what an awful world this is sometimes. People like this are not even human.

Carolyn Mckeesport pennsylvania   November 20th, 2009 3:26 am ET

My heart is sooo broke over what happened to this beautiful child .This mother is as sick I feel sicker than that animal that killed the child your suppose to protect your child with every once of breath you have in your body how could this sick Animal Mother do this They should give both the animals the death penalty and I hope they get Tortured and beat while they wait in jail to go to hell were they both belong The Father should have been checking on that angel every day he did not do his job iether

JBrown   November 20th, 2009 3:39 am ET

\Nancy. I watch your show all the time and love it with a passion. I greatly appreciate how you speak for the little voices that can no longer speak for themselves. But I have to say that no other case has bothered or touched as much as the case of Shaniya Davis.

I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and I couldn't imagine anyone doing this to my child. My daughter's father is not in her life but there is no way that he could request to see here or "be a father to her" without me present, the whole visit. I am not blaming the father of Shaniya by no means for giving her (the mother) a second chance. There is no doubt in my mind he understands the bond of a mother and child. She betrayed that bond and him.

I'm from the DC Metro area so I definitely wouldn't rely on Family Service to check out her situation. I would have been all up and threw her place. If I couldn't be there then my child couldn't be there. PERIOD! I feel that her mother is totally at fault for what happened to Shaniya. Mario McNeil did the actually crime but SHE allowed that to happened so she should definitely get the same faint as him.

I definitely want to extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to Shaniya's father, siblings and extended family as the deal with her tragic lost. God has not forsaken them even though the cross feels like it is too hard to bear. I just pray that eventually they will be advocates to prevent future Shaniya cases. Shaniya has cause me to be more involved in preventing futures cases like her from accurring. Shaniya Thank You. You death was not in vain.

gail   November 20th, 2009 3:40 am ET

I think this has been the most shocking case I've heard yet. I feel sso bad for the father, my prayers are with, and I pray for him and is family every day. Don't let her murder be in vane. There has to be new laws everywhere, united states wide, both parents sure be called. When there is problems with the other parent, child being taken out of school, abuse maybe, a question of drug use. Anything negative about one parent. The other parent should know about it right away. There should be a law that, that happen.
Both my chidren where abuse by there father, DSS knew about it. I didn't find out untill my son came and lived with me at age 12yrs. though therpy. Thats wrong.
gail

Linda   November 20th, 2009 3:42 am ET

I am so heart-broken over this. That beautiful little girl should NEVER have ended up in this situation. I want to know WHY no one was checking up on her – or if they were, why did they leave her there? This whole thing just stinks, on every level. If she was out of school for all that time, was it reported to her father? Or the drugs in the home? The only thing that is getting me through this is knowing that little angel Shaniya is safe with God and never will be hurt again. There will be no suffering great enough for those monsters that hurt her.

One thing I do not understand is why was there a size 24-month pair of pants found in his car. Who did they belong to?

Rest in peace, Shaniya.

Natalie   November 20th, 2009 4:02 am ET

Nancy,
I watch you every night, tonight you had piped down quite a bit about the father are you starting to realize his responsability in this murder. You do not give a second chance with a child without doing it slowly at first and increasing her time with the mother as condition warrant. A parent cannot even though his lame excuse of wanting for Antoinette to have a second chance, dumb fool didn't he realize this was a child. If he is that ignorant and oblivious to reality then he is not qualified to be a parent. This was not the first time that she visited. He knew Antoinette living condition in her condemnend overcrowed trailer. I am sure that on the occasions when he drop or pick Shaniya up he had plenty of occasions to witness the low lifes coming in and out of that trailer. Did he checked to see if Antoinette was going through men one after the other. After all he claims that she was a one night stand even tough some of Antoinette's friends say that Antoinette used to be his baby sitter when he was married to Ms Coleman. My point she had just started to date Clarence Coe as he had being just recently gotten out of jail and Coe claims that he was living there and that Shaniya called him Daddy. Was that what he wanted for his precious daughter but after finishing my sentence I just realized that he himself had 5 kids and others had to raise them. He is not what he wants to portray. His daughter Cheyenne knew about the drugs yet Lockart did not know. Give me a break. His sister, the Coleman and Allen family told him not to send her there. Again how can he not know? How did he leave Shaniya since October 9th without checking on her she would have told him that she was not going to school and I am sure if he was close to her, many other things would have been said by Shaniya. He went out of town he did not go to a remote unhabited land where they do not have phone. Nancy I know that you and all guests on your panels would not leave your 5 year old with a drug addict. SECOND CHANCE LIKE YOU ALWAYS SAY "BS"And by the way what are the 2 jobs that Antoinette's sister claims that Antoinette was working? Was it drug dealer and prostitute?I am very interested to know where she had worked for the past 6 months Lockart claims she worked . If anyone knows please I am curious to know. This father is going to be found out and exposed. I am mad at him because the neglect and path to murder started with him

SINGLE MOTHER   November 20th, 2009 4:17 am ET

I JUST WATCHED THE LINK THAT ONE OF THE OTHER MOTHERS PUT UP AND I AM AT A LOST. WHO WAS LOOKING IN ON THIS LIL BABY GIRL IF SHE DID HAVE THESE BURNS. THEN EVERY ONE THAT SEEN THEM AND DID NOTHING YOU ARE TO BLAM TO. I NOW FEEL THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE LET THIS GIRL DOWN. I KNOW OTHERS ARE TAKING CARE OF HER BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHAT IS REALY GOING ON. IF SHE HAD HER FOR SIX WEEKS CAME ON WHO WAS LOOKING IN ON THIS MOTHER WHO HAS ONLY BEEN DOING GOOD FOR SIX MO. YES IT LOOKS LIKE THIS MAN IS A GOOD FATHER BUT WHO WAS SUPPOST TO BE CHECKING IN ON THIS BABY? DID HE CALL AND TALK TO HER AND ASK HIS BABY ARE YOU DOING OK IS ANYONE BEEN MEAN TO YOU. MY SON GOES TO HIS DADS EVERY OTHER WEEKEND AND I ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS ALWAYS NO MATTER WHAT I DONT WAIT FOR SOME THING TO HAPPEN. SO FOR REAL NO THE DAD DIDNT HURT HIS BABY BUT HE DID LET HER DOWN. AND HE WILL LIVE WITH THAT. YOU CAN TELL IT IN HIS VOICE. NO I DONT THINK ANY CHARGES BUT MAYBE SOME HELP FOR THE HOLE FAMILY.

A VERY SAD MOTHER I LOOK AFTER FOUR MY LIFE IS AROUND MY KID. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY HIS OTHER DAUGHTER IS BEING RAISED BY ANOTER MAN. THAT I JUST DONT GET I KNOW IT IS HARD BRING UP KIDS ON YOUR OWN BEEN DOING IT FOR 16 YEARS WITH FOUR KIDS BUT I HAD THEM AND I TAKE CARE OF THEM EVERY DAY. NOW THIS LIL ANGLE HAS GOD LOOKING OVER HER SHE IS IN GOOD HANDS.

beverly   November 20th, 2009 4:28 am ET

If punishment was exucuted more swiftly some of these criminals would think twice before they committ any crimes.

T.L.J.RAINEY   November 20th, 2009 4:35 am ET

I live in Fayetteville, NC and what they are not tell you is that Ms. Davis did not owe Mario any money. And her child was not used to pay any debt. The real story goes like this: Mr. Coe gave her HIV and she gave it to Mario. He (Mario) said he was going to get her for giving him AIDS. He said he was going to get her child and give her what her mom gave to him. So when he took her we were all surprised because we thought he was over it. He has been planning this for quite some time

celeste   November 20th, 2009 4:44 am ET

hi nancy, love your show....i have a question...does anyone know if shaniya was the only child in the home that was a part of the human trafficing?

SHELIA   November 20th, 2009 4:56 am ET

JUST WANNA SAY THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING YOU CANT EVEN IMAGINE A MOTHER WOULD DO BUT OF COURSE SHES NOT A MOM. AND THE ANIMAL THAT DID THIS HE WILL DEFINETLY GET WHATS COMING TO HIM. GOD BLESS SHANIYA AND HER FAMILY MAY SHE REST IN PEACE AND THANK GOD FOR NANCY GRACE.

Carolyn   November 20th, 2009 5:10 am ET

The real killers of this innocent child is apparent.but dad you are just as guilty. You knew the mom was a toss up yet you was so selfish in putting your needs first that you failed your daughter. Why no follow up? You saw what was going on yet you did nothing. You knew what was going on in that trailer, nothing. You raised this child for 5 years with privledges and sent her to the ghetto. She never lived like that, all of those people in that little trailer. I know it was culture shock for her. Did you call to check on her? Did you spend time with her after sending her there? No, dad was doing his own thing.

jeri-Ree   November 20th, 2009 5:37 am ET

When I first heard of this story it completely shocked me!! I know the father is blaming himself for even giving the mother of his child a chance at being a mother......what kind of woman would do that to ANY child.....she had to be on drugs. They seriously need to hurry up and peice this puzzle together because I this is just DEVASTATING.

Renee   November 20th, 2009 5:43 am ET

I have to say that I agree with you Nancy, If a parent is receiving Welfare of any kind, state or federal assistance, THEY SHOULD BE DRUG TESTED, AND IF IT IS FOUND THAT THEY ARE INDEED DRUG USERS, THEIR CHILDREN SHOULD BE AUTOMATICALLY REMOVED FROM THE HOME, PENDING VERY CLOSE MONITORING AND REHABILITATION(NOT JUST 6 MONTHS OR 1 YR AFTER THEIR CLEAN) MAYBE MORE LIKE 5-10YRS....THIS WOULD STOP ALOT OF THE ABUSE AND NEGLECT THAT GOES ON.......no cash assistance or foodstamps for these parents....it just helps their drug habits anyway, and they need to be tested monthly for the 1st yr of assistance and maybe every 3 months for the 2nd yr of assistance if their dropping clean....Im just saying more can be done to fight this war on drugs besides arrestng the dealers, you will never catch all of them, so start with the people who purchase the product.....ultimately if its a parent thats on drugs it affects the children the worst.

Judy   November 20th, 2009 6:24 am ET

The land lord said what a complete pig sty that trailer was, how could any father let his daughter go to live in such conditions? Didn't he check out where and how Shaniya would be living?

Nicole L   November 20th, 2009 8:16 am ET

If Coe was HIV and gave Antoinette Davis HIV and she in turn gave it to Mario when he cheated on her sister (Brenda) with him. Why would the sister be sticking up for her?? I'm very confused. Also if it was a revenge killing because of this why would he have bags of clothes? Someone had to give him the bags of clothes. There was some talk that he had come for Coe (being the one who inititially passed HIV on the them) but Coe was not there so he took the child. If there is any truth to this and she gave him HIV, knowing she was positive, he could have charged her with manslaughter?? Has her sister been tested? This is the most bizarre story. He doesn't seem to have any history of pedophilia which is really making me wonder if this was a case of wanting revenge. Maybe he does have a history but hasn't been caught up till now. Why doesn't someone ask the sister about all of this, maybe then you might get her to cooperate. I've seen this info on several sites. Why take bags of clothes?? If he was going to kill her or was it there intention to set Coe up for his role in the HIV situation?? She ratted him out first. I don't know if she was prostituting her out or that charge is related to her giving the child to Mario for owed money?? Why aren't they talking about the HIV status of all of them and if that plays any role in the murder of this child.

I had tears in my eyes as I read this story. All I can say is an eye for an eye. The killer and her mother should be subjected to the same agony this little girl faced! I believe in the death penalty is warranted under certain situations and this is one of them How could anyone harm such a beautiful child or any child? What is this world coming to?
You need a license to drive a car, but anyone can have a baby how much sense does that make?

Nancy;
I must say that I love your show and the way try to qet to the very bottom of thinqs in these horrific cases. It seems to me that every since 2-year old Caylee Anthony* was murdered, the world has become obsessed with killinq beautiful innocent children. These kids deserve justice, I wish there was some way I could help to make better lives for innocent children who have to suffer from beinq mistreated and neqlected by their parents. Its so sad to me, I sit here every day and I look at my kids and there is no way I could do thinqs like this to my children. People seem to not understand that "Life is a gift. Children are a qift"
I am a sinqle mother, but my kids father helps me in every way he can. However, Im from a rural area Irwinton, GA but I reside in Milledqeville,GA. I wouldnt say everyone here is POOr but we do struqqle. I see stuff like this everyday...mothers here prostitute their children and they just leave them with anyone. I also see many mothers who beat their children just because they may have qotten a letter sent home from school or maybe because they wouldnt listen. IDK! but I think its time for this madness to stop!
As I watched the news about Little Shaniya beinq missinq, I hoped and prayed that she would be safely returned home to her father of course but sad to say, she will not be returninq. This story has really touched me and it hurts me so much to know how a mother could just prostitute her child and not have any reqrets. Shaniya deserved better and I think her father should have thouqht a little deeper before lettinq little Shaniya return to a "mobile home" with her mother. Antoinette Davis & Mario McNeil should be ashamed of themselves. How could a mother in her riqht mind let a older man even do somethinq like this to her child. As for Mario, who I think deserves the death penalty, how could you even molest a innocent child. Lookinq at Shaniya's picture now, she seemed so full of life and lauqhter...Nancy, thanks for lettinq me qet this off my chest.

My deepest nd warmest condolences to The Davis&Lockhart family, and may America's Little Anqel, little Shaniya Davis, Rest In Peace.

Victoria made a good point. Maybe if the owners/managers of these trailer parks are held accountable/responsible for who they rent to and what goes on in these places we could prevent this type of thing from happening to the next poor little victim. I think they should at least have to pay a severe fine for not reporting suspected drug use/sales and suspected prostitution to the police/department of family and children services and filthy living conditions to the health department. These slum lords have been getting away with not fixing sewage problems, overcrowding, fire hazards, dumping sites, not paying for trash pick up, water bills and acting in denial about all this when they're caught for years now, just collecting their monthly rent and keeping quiet. They should be forced, by law, to report suspicious behavior, follow local, state and federal guidelines, have security cameras and taping in good condition and be regularly inspected.Trailer parks should be forced to spend the extra dollars to run criminal background checks and tenant screens on all occupants over 21just like every other rental situation – not just evict people for being late with rent!

I am so sick to my stomach over this. I pray for her family and those who "loved" her. Evertime I look at that sick man, he has a smerck. I would love to wipe that smerck right off his face along with the (so-called) mothers. I am just beside myself seeing this happen so much right now. Unfortunately, this is not the first and won't be the last. How do we stop these sick people? Look at her, look at her happy, then look at her being carried into the hotel. That is so sad that is the last image her poor dad has of her. I just want to strangle her mom. How dare her. I say we just kill them and get it over with, where was the mercy for poor Shaniya???? We have no use in society for these types of people. Period!!!!! I am disgusted and sad!!

Nancy God Bless you for bringing attention and standing up for these innocent, beautiful children. As another person commented tragically it seems every few days there is another angel taken too soon and in such horrific ways...I have to tell you that this beautiful babygirl Shaniya and her story have ripped my heart out. My youngest daughter is 5 years old and could be Shaniyas twin – in fact when the news first broke i actually had several people call me to make sure my daughter was okay because they thought they saw her picture on the news. I was actually going to post her picture but the sad part Nancy is that the majority of your fans are wonderful, loving people who would never harm a child but there are obviously some monsters&demons walking amongst us that would harm any child let alone their own! So I have decided not to post my daughters pic out of fear some sicko might try to find her....My heart aches for this babygirl and I have been physically ill when I think about what this angel went through- THIS MUST END!!! To the monsters involved you will get yours and you deserve to be tortured in ways I can not even come up with, and tortured for a long long long time. For those of you that pray – pray for this angel and her siblings and any family/friends that really love her. For those that dont want to pray please dont forget her and make sure if you are worried about a child – anyones child- you speak up for them. Our children are innocent – they are sweet angels that can not and should not have to defend themselves.
Nancy Grace no matter what people try to say about you – you have given a voice to these precious children and they are victims of crimes that should never have happened! For all of us on this site – lets follow Nancys lead and be the voices that shout out for help and scream that something is wrong. I am a single mother of 5 young kids and I can tell you right now that we need to give these angels voices! Please do not forget beautiful Shaniya, Somer Thompson, Hayley, Elizabeth, and sadly hundreds and thousands of other innocent angels taken from this world in such horrific ways. Make sure to give your child that extra hug or kiss- TALK TO YOUR KIDS- Love them, appreciate them, cherish them! They deserve only LOVE

Nancy
Did anyone check on the blanket they found in the trailer park for DNA?
Did the boyfriend have anything to do with it? Was she molested before they even left the trailer park? There is no excuse for what this mother did. I have written to my senator several times about sentencing for child molesters and killers. My grand niece was molested and the guy did less than a year in jail. There should be a manditory sentence for anyone that molests a child. It should be at least 20 yrs. Anyone that causes the death of a child should receive life without parole. Come on people protect these children! Do not let these people plea bargain! Send them to prison in California where they kill child molesters!

liz collins   November 20th, 2009 10:13 am ET

SICK, SICK, SICK!!! THATS ALL I CAN SAY! THAT BEAUTIFUL BABY.... I'M SURE ANYBODY POSTING ON THIS BOARD WOULD HAVE TAKEN BETTER CARE OF THAT BABY THAN THOSE TWO IDIOTS DID!!! WE TALK ABOUT RACISM BUT HOW BEAUTIFUL IS IT TO SEE A WHITE MAN WHO FATHERED NOT 1 BIRACIAL CHILD BUT MORE THAN 1 AND THEY ALL LOOKED WELL TAKEN CARE OF IN THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA IN OUR DAY! WE TALK ABOUT MEN DON'T STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE ON THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES BUT HERE IS A MAN WHO FATHERED A CHILD OUT OF A 1 NIGHT STAND. HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE WAS, GOOD CARE AND ENVIROMENT SHOWS ON A CHILD... CURSE DCF AND THEIR NEGLECT OF THIS WOMANS HOME OR SISTERS HOME. REPORTS SAY RENT MONEY WAS OWED TO SLEEPY HOLLOW.. NON OF THE SORRY A– MEN THERE COULDN'T GET THE RENT MONEY UP? SHANIYA WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!! WE NEED A SHANIYA DAY TO ACKNOWLEDGE CHILDREN WHO ARE AT RISK IN THEIR HOME ENVIROMENT! I'M SURE THE
'MOTHER" MANIPULATED THE HELL OUT OF HIM, HE IS A CONTRACTOR WHO WORKS OUT OF STATE HE PROBABLY COMMUNICATED THROUGH CELL PHONE, ALSO MOM PROBABLY GOT HIM TO SEND MONEY FOR HER CARE AS WELL,I BET THAT!!!

Joanna   November 20th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Nancy obviously anyone can take a child out of school, moving. What I would hope to come out of this tragedy is after 7 to 14 days the school a child is removed from doesn't get a records request from another district. This should be a catch to keep children like this one from being forgotten.

SHARON   November 20th, 2009 10:21 am ET

I read through some of the notes on the Shaniya case. I STRONGLY AGREE with Ginny, Char and others who KNOW that we MUST bring proper justice to these kinds of cases. Public punishment...I'd love to be there. First cut the rapist's penis off, then stone him, or even better, MAKE him suffer the way his victim did. As for women felons let the public have their way with them, too. And any Attorney agreeing to take the case for the felon, SHAME ON YOU. THERE IS NO CASE.

K M from New Hampshire   November 20th, 2009 10:28 am ET

I just don't understand... can't comprehend how people can rape and kill anyone, let alone a child. It's hard to block this story from my mind, I feel so bad that this happened. Especially seeing the video of her and the accused perpetrator – if only someone could have intervened. I trust God has a plan for us all. I just hope and pray that there is some good to come of this... somehow.

concerned auntie in central nc   November 20th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Nancy,

This is a particularly terriffying case to me as it hits so close to home. I get sick evertime I think about it as this could have easily been my neice. My brother has custody of his kids because his ex decided that that crack was more important than her kids years ago. Much like Shanias Dad he has his life together and takes great care of his children. He has full custody and she had no unsupervised visitation when he lived out of state. Upon his return to NC the kangaroo courts in the same area returned her visitation rights to their Mother with no supervision. Free to be taken where ever and be around who ever there Mother sees fit. This despite her recorded history with drugs, larceny and purgery as well as outstanding warrents in other juristicitions. I would like to know what Shaniyas custody situation was and why she was allowed to be in a home that was a known drug house with her crackhead mother? While the mother and drug dealer were the ones responsible for Shaniyas Death, the court and social services agencys bear some burden of the guilt for not stepping in and removing her from that situation. They obviously knew about it, and just didn't do anything!

kids1st   November 20th, 2009 10:32 am ET

My heart has ached since this story came out. The more details exposed, the more I cry. Shaniya endured horrors no child should ever be exposed to. That monster of a woman lost the privilege of the title "mother" when she failed to show her daughter the love and kindness she deserved and when she failed to protect her. The father should feel guilty – he gave that monster a second chance and knew the living conditions where his daughter was and the monster's history. That part of Fayetteville is not safe for any child. How you could knowingly let your child live there is beyond comprehension. In my opinion, you get one chance with your children. You screw up, it's over. You don't deserve a second chance to make yourself feel like a good parent or a better person. Every child deserves every chance at a long, loving, SAFE childhood (and life). The atrocities done to Shaniya are unspeakable.

I hope everyone not only writes to Ed Grannis (117 Dick Street; Suite 427; Fayetteville, NC 28301) to demand the harshest punishment for these monsters but also writes to their own elected officials demanding stricter legislation and harsher punishment for crimes against children. We need to protect our children.

When we as a people decide we are no longer going to stand for the viciousness done to our children, only then we will see change. When we say "NO MORE!" and remove this filth from our society, only then will we see change.

If you see anything involving a child that looks suspicious or odd – INTERFERE! Speak up; do not turn a blind eye. It is far better to make a mistake than to ignore a situation and leave an innocent, helpless child to unfathomable horrors. When it is time for you to be judged, make sure you have not been weighed, measured, and found wanting.

liz collins   November 20th, 2009 10:34 am ET

THE IRONIC PART NOW IS THAT THE PRISON SYSTEM HAS "PROTECTIVE CUSTODY" SO THESE TWO FOOLS ARE BEING PROTECTED FROM THE REST OF THE PRISON POPULATION... SHANIYA WASN'T PROTECTED FROM THEM!!! LET THEM HAVE COURT WITH A JURY OF THIER REAL PEERS THE ONES IN MAXIMUM SECURITY!!!! LET THEM BE THEIR JUDGE AND JURY!!!

Jessica G.   November 20th, 2009 10:35 am ET

I lived on Ft. Bragg for years in Fayetteville and my sister and friends still live in Fayetteville with my niece and nephew. This case has shaken me to the core. I have not slept with the image of this so called "mother" in my head. I pray every day for this little girl and her family.

The mobile home park that the mother stayed in is right off a main road that is known for prostitution and drugs. I have literally seen prostitutes walking down the street in the middle of the day, so that leads me to believe that she may have been involved with some sort of prostitution ring to begin with. Anyone from Fayetteville knows that Murchison Rd. is not exactly where you want to get stranded with a flat tire.

I hope justice prevails.

Cindy Bonner   November 20th, 2009 10:43 am ET

Dear Nancy,
I can not tell you how much I love you and your show. You such a voice for those who can't speak. My daughter was abused and sold for drugs by her father while at his house for a court oredered visitation. She has battled post tramic stress disorder, anger, rage, and trying to run from the demons she served 4 years in prison. I thank God every day for her and her life.. She is 25 now and married serving God, and is a Master Barber. I am so proud. I don't understand how a parent could do these things but I do blame the justice system as well for letting these monsters walk on the street. They all seem to have a past crimal history, The justice system needs to be REVISED and throw these monsters away!!!

Brown   November 20th, 2009 11:01 am ET

I agree with Maggie above that Shaniya was sodomized at the trailer and that POS knew about it. That means that at the time the pictures of Shaniya and dog face were captured she had already been violated. Poor Baby.

Vickey Gutierrez   November 20th, 2009 11:06 am ET

I'm a young mother of 3 and my heart just drops every time I watch your show. These worthless beings that we call mothers are just pieces of u know what. Seeing that beautiful girl being carried to her death is the worst feeling ever. I cry every time I see it. I watch the show with my six year old so that she learns that all people are not good people and that all those little girls are just like her. Thank you Nancy for all that you do.

cortne   November 20th, 2009 11:12 am ET

So sad!! Words can't even describe how this makes me feel inside, it sickening!!! How can a human beeing be so cruel? I hope every person who had something to do with this case, who had something to do with harming this precious little girl, rots in prison, and is tortured every day, for the rest of their lives!

Annette Robinson   November 20th, 2009 11:12 am ET

I am a avid watching of Nancy Grace daily. I watch Nancy about three times per night. I hear the same things over and over; however I am so elated that we have Nancy Grace to bring life to many children in which it has been loss. When the story of Shaniya Davis broke I was in shock. I cried when I first heard and everytime I viewed a picture of the sweet, beautiful child. I just couldn't wrap my mind around the circumstances of this story. When they made the first arrest and released the 1st suspect I was losing faith that her killer would not be caught. When the video was release of the second suspect carrying Shaniya in the hotel room, I knew what the outcome would be. When I watch the report yesterday evening from the Fayetteville Police Dept. It confirmed what I already knew. Now it is time for Shaniya to get justice. I predict that murder charges for the mother as well. I know that our justice system will impose the penalty that they both deserve. Quick and speedy execution for the both of them. I can't image what Shaniya father must be feeling, the exerts of him being pictures when he first received the news of her death was just to disheartening to watch. I know in my heart that his intention was to allow his beautiful daughter to have a relationship with her mother. If he had know there was a chance of such events I know he wouldnt have allowed Shaniya to be in the vincinity of the mother's place of residency. Now for the healing , is it really possible? I wonder each day is the world in such disarray that we have forgotten that the children are the future. I'm convinced that if we don't see a drastic change our future is rather dim.
Shaniya the world love you sweetie. Rest in peace!

Nancy I love your show keep putting information out their and please pass the word to the court systemS that laws need to change think about when a person goes to jail and have long recordsS such as that monster they comment even worse crimes judges need to stop being afraid and give those who comment crime do the time, ABOUT THIS CHILD IT REALLY BROKE & TOUCH A NERVE I DONT WISH THIS ON NO ONE BUT ITS REALLY BOTHERS ME I HAVE A GRANDAUGHER........................

Maria P   November 20th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Nancy dear, I love you for what you do with you show! If my English is not so good, please forgive me, but I'll try my best. I am from Europe, half Greek, half Italian, and some Romanian. Many years ago, when this world just started the History, the criminals were given to the lions. I am a mother of two (27 and 14 years old-girl, and a boy). Those criminals don't need to go to trial, they don't need to live in prison, on the American people's money, having TVs, fitness, a bed, a life, eat, sleep. Eye for an eye. This criminal who took The little girl's life, needs to be the toy of the prison, need to be watch out not to die there. He needs to feel what the little girls had to get through when he raped her. I will let him get raped a 1000 times a day, and then I want to see him smilling like he does now. When I saw him after he was arested, that smile told me, that the poor girl is dead. He was like saying-You can do what you want to me, but she is dead anyway.- I would cut his mouth from ear to ear to make that smile bigger. I am sorry, but I am so ANGRY. I just want to ask you something. Please, don't let his face closer to the little girl's face on the screen. Please, and Thank you! All my love for the Heros, and to you. (I came to USA three years ago, so you understand why my English is not so good)

Demetra   November 20th, 2009 11:30 am ET

First off I would just like to send my deepest thoughts and prayers to Shaniya's family. May God watch over them and know that she's in heaven with all the other angels. Nancy I think if there were more amazing people like you in our judicial system, Cruel, Heartless, and MONSTER crimes like this would not be brushed under the rug. That coward and worthless example of a human being deserve the absolute longest, maximum sentence in prison that there is. Why are they protecting Mario in prison, feed him to the wolves! Let him be tortured there, with out the chance to escape his sober state of mind so he can really take in what he did to this little girl and her family. I am proudly from North Carolina, a past resident of Fayetteville, NC and I can not believe this is happening in my state. It’s fearful and insane to think that crimes like this happen in your home state. I wish there was something I could do to make sure that these two monsters are brought to justice! I am so extremely disgusted with this whole story. How could you do such an awful thing to a little girl who is so pure, helpless, beautiful, and reminding again she is a child. Just makes me sick to my stomach. This little girl has not left my thoughts, since I first heard of the story and I prayed and prayed that the authorities would find her. Antoinette Davis doesn’t deserve to be referred to as her Mother and as for her sister defending her-WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. She is not in jail for something she didn’t do, I mean COME ON, quit being in denial and realize that your sister has the devil living in her and that she let this go on. She’s just as guilty as he is, BOTTOM LINE. When I and my fiancé decide to have children, it’s people like this that make me not want to let them leave our home. What’s extremely awful about this and I think a shock to everyone is that it was her own Mother. Unfortunately you hear of stories like this a lot but not in a long time (way back since Susan Smith) have I heard such a bizarre story involving the parent and to this extent of extreme hate and selfishness. I hope the family stays strong and works together for Shaniya’s sake and for her killers to be brought to justice! I will continue to follow the story, keep up the awesome work Nancy! We love you!

Tanya   November 20th, 2009 11:34 am ET

May they be raped and beatin in Jail......of course they will be protected...one thing is for sure...Child protection should be investagated also, their were other childeren in the home and she still had them...thats why the dad figured she was trying and gave her a second chance...If she never had the other child, then the dad would have known not to send her over to that skank......RIP Princess

Lattia McClinton   November 20th, 2009 11:35 am ET

I am so torn by this whole thing with that beautiful angel. I just pray that justice will be served. I will keep the family in my prayers.

Madeline E   November 20th, 2009 11:36 am ET

Nancy I love what YOU do! This is truly tragic. How can a MOTHER do this to their child! A precious innocent little child!! It tears me up knowing someone can do this!! And what is this 29 year old MAN thinking??? Are you kidding me? This is truly sad and our hears/prayers are going to the family. R.I.P. Little Shania. Your story will live on forever dear child! Love from Maryland!

patti reece   November 20th, 2009 11:45 am ET

to think that cumberland county has the jurisdition of this case which is the same county that let the lowlife get away with shooting 3 people selling drugs and othe charges and we can only hope and pray that they give this little girl justice because they have lacked it in the past and maybe she would be alive today if they would have put him away in the first place north carolina needs to wake up on their probation this is the second time that 2 beautiful people have lost their life because of the states probation hello wake up stop slapping those lowlifes on the srist and give them some real time

Kit Corbitt   November 20th, 2009 11:48 am ET

I have to say, we need to take a second look at this father. With the Mother's history of drug abuse and Child Protective Services being at the Mother's house as early as July, what kind of father would hand his child over to this abusive environment?

Sha   November 20th, 2009 11:50 am ET

I have really taken this hard because I have a five year daughter, and This beautiful Angel looks so much like my daughter, As mothers we took an oath to our children, Its says in the bible, What you have done to my litte ones, you have done to me!!!! How are can any do this to a baby, I pray for their souls come Judgement day!!!!! Shaniya, You are an angel!!!!!!!!

Valentina   November 20th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

I'm heart broken, I've been crying for days over this tragedy and loss of a beautiful little angel, the images run through my head. I have a little girl and when I see Shaniya, my heart breaks. I am so SICK of seeing these stories over and over and over and no justice for the victims. The demons argue about their 'civil rights', what rights???? they should have lost their right as soon as they took that child/person.
That mug shot of that demon, with the smirk on his face infuriates me.
I wandered over to Nancy's site to try and see what can I do, how can we change the laws, how can we ensure justice is actually served.... not a 3yr sentence where they can be released and repeat the offense over and over and over until they kill a child.
How can we help?

bobby   November 20th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

I have to agree with sandi from mi. There is much, much more that is wrong and many, many unjustices done to little Shaniya and it ALL angres me intensley. The father should be held responsible for his role is sending his daughter without regard to this deplorable trailer!! What parent in their right mind would ever even consider such a thing! Not even for one night, yet along an extention to 5 weeks!!! That thougt also just blows my mind, and i really think the WHOLE storey needs to be explored in the search for true justice for beautiful innocent little Shaniya.

Margaret Reynolds   November 20th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

Does anyone have the address for the Shaniya Davis Trust Fund set up at Wachovia Bank?

Ruth White   November 20th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

Nancy, my family and I are die hard fans of your show and we applaud you in your conviction to get to the truth on these horrific crimes. We love getting tidbits on your babies and even your crew of the show. Your warmth to others does not go unnoticed. Not at all. I love the way you end your show with the picture of another fallen soldier. I want us to never forget what a soldier has given to us and our country. Even his own life. I also want you to know when you say "goodnight, friend" I feel as though you are speaking to me with your heart. Your commitment to get the details out to us on each case has reinforced my conviction that someone should care enough to speak out and get the public involved. Whether it be to band together to get our laws changed to fit the crime or become more aware of even our own surroundings so we can help protect the innocent from sick predators. We can do our part by watching our neighborhood and getting involved with what is happening around us. Volunteer for CASA. Volunteer at women and children centers. Talk to our reps of our government. Scream if necessary....We can't keep letting these heinous crimes happen to our children. Actually anyone, but especially our children. Keep up the wonderful work. We love you and your show.

Heather   November 20th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

I am so upset by this story first I am not able to have children of my own and when I here of these so called mother's doing stuff like this to there children I want to...well you can imagine!!! My thoughts and prayers to the family of Shania, what a beautifull girl!!! Something about all of this bother's me though, I can understand the father wanting to give the mother a second chance but listening to Nancy Grace last night I hear the house was a total mess not fit for kids and the landlord was trying to get her out, did the father or a family member not check up on Shania or when the father droped her off did he not see her living conditions, with total custody of my child I would not be 100% confident in this women's change and the authority's and social services not to mention the school where were they, what happened???

katy   November 20th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

The death penalty is to good for this so called mother !she should be physically tortured for the rest of her life,to hurt that poor innocent child. If she gets away with this our justice system has truly failed us ! Rest in peace you sweet child of god!

Judy Diede   November 20th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

I believe Shanyia was given to McNeill for sex as payment for drugs. Videos show McNeill and Shanyia at the motel. A kidnapper would not be showing their faces to others. When Shanyia died, McNeill could not bring her back, so the "Mom" had to fabricate a kidnapping. Some one should rape them both with an object 10 times too large and then suffocate them. Rid the world of this trash.

Janet   November 20th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

I am sick beyond my ability to express how heart broken I am over this case. This beautiful baby treated so brutally at the hands of totally twisted and sick animals. My prayers go out to Shaniya's family. Shaniya's maternal biological DNA contributor...and I say that because the term 'mother' in no way shape or form describes the woman that gave birth to Shaniya...is pregnant with another innocent victim?? PLEASE TELL ME THAT ALL OTHER CHILREN HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS....'home' and that that woman WILL NEVER have the priviledge of holding another gift from God in her very unworthly arms. It's hard to say I'm a Christian and feel the feelings that I am toward these two very, very sick individuals. This story has shaken my world and I look at my 4 year old granddaughter and it makes me want to NEVER let her go. God bless you Shaniya and God bless and heal your family.

joanna   November 20th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

Nancy think about this. When a parent removes a child from school the red flag shoud be when there is not a records request from another school disctrict with 7 to 14 day. I don't get it.

Tamika   November 20th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

And didn't they just report that the "mother" and I use that term loosely is pregnant now?

JoAnn   November 20th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

Nancy, Thanks so much for all you do to shed light on these precious little angles and their families. God Bless You!
Please stop using the word "mother" when you refer to her, the word "monster" is more like it, she shouldn't even be called an animal, because EVEN ANIMALS PROTECT THEIR YOUNG!!!
I thought Andrea Yates, Susan Smith, and Casey Anthony were "monsters" but this "B – - – H" tops them all. Neither Davis or McNeill look remorseful, they're both evil. He's smiling and she looks like she's there for a traffic violation. What the hell, jail is too good for them, THEY NEED TO BE HUNG AT HIGH NOON OR STONED TO DEATH.
I think the police should review their files, for other missing little girls because I believe this ISN'T the first time this MONSTER has done this. Heaven help us!
R.I.P. precious baby R.I.P.

Tyrenna Shivers   November 20th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

Hello Nancy,

I am just really sorry that there are mothers out there that dont give a damn about their children. How in the world can a mother just give her baby away to a man that has a know rap sheet of violent offenses. There is not enough money in the world that can bring that child back and my God she died by strangulation. Which means that child sufferd and he raped her he is a sick bastard. The mother should be charged with murder also because she had to have know that this man was a danger to society and to anyone around him. In my opinon the justice system is to nice to child molesters and rapist. They should not have any protection and they should all die the way they harm their victims. I hope that God has mercy on McNeil's soul and I hope that the mother comes to her senses and help the police as much as possible.

Amy English   November 20th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

At Shared Hope International, a nonprofit who work to rescue and restore women and children who are victims of sexual slavery, we released a National Report on Child SEx Trafficking. Sadly, Shaniya is one of over 100'000 American children who are victims of sex trafficking EVERY YEAR in America! http://www.sharedhope.org/dmst/ . More HAS To be done to rescue our American children from sexual slavery and preserve their innocence!

Jenn   November 20th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

I can't even imagine the pain and fear that little girl went through in her final hours. It's completely disgusting and horrific what so many good for nothing pukes do to such innocent helpless children. There is nothing that can make it right. Hopefully they truly get what they deserve on earth and may their afterlife be even worse.

jennifer cooper   November 20th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

I find this to be very disturbing, how children can jut come up missing and dead and raped. I as a victim of sexual abuse as a child can only imagine the pain and fear that the little girl went through before dieing. I hope and pray that justice is brought to the person who did such a horrible evil thing.

susan horton   November 20th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

I dont have a daughter only a son, but tears come down my face everytime i see the pictures of this girl and only hope the family realizes how many people that dont even know them prayers go out to them. She is an angel now and hopefully God will give him or them the justice they deserve.

Mara Davis   November 20th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

What about "the war on children" in this country. Our children are being threatened, sold, kidnapped, raped, sodomized, beaten etc. and often by their own parents. You, Nancy, seem to be the only one visibly outraged. It will not stop, it will only get worse, till we as a nation rise up, and if necessary, go to Congress and the streets, to demand that these villains stop victimizing our most helpless treasures. What good is the death sentence after another child has been sacrificed? I have been crying daily over Shaniya Davis. I have 6 beautiful grand-children, 6-15, and the youngest resembles Shaniya. I have tried to make lemons out of lemonade by hugging her, loving her, treasuring her and spoiling her. But most of all I have used this horrible tragedy to talk to her about staying close to mommy and daddy, not going anywhere with other adults, or any teen-agers, and telling if someone touches her in a private part. America needs to wake up! Don't let kids return to addicted parents, don't let little ones walk to school alone, for this is "a sad new world". What will be next Nancy? Keeping kids home from school? Think I'm crazy? Even 10 years ago, you would have deemed me crazy if I said kids would not be able to safely play outside. Wake up America! Before the murderers not only rob our kids of their lives but all of their freedoms as well. The real terrorists are right here at home. I love you, Nancy, for being a visible combatant.

jennifer   November 20th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

I wanted to add another comment, To all the sexual abusers out there you need help and stop making these little children suffer. They do not enjoy it at all, and for all of you who think they do, get some f*****g help!

Leslie   November 20th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

To the attorney who said the mother may not have had ill intent, that she may of given her child just to hold. How ridiculous! Who in the world wakes a 5 year up in the early morning hours to be on HOLD for a drug debt, and doesnt have ill intent!

I've cried everyday over this case, and attorney's who make absurd comments like that really anger me. If you ask me, the mother had a pre-meditated plan to trick the father into letting the daughter stay w/ her just so she could give her to that maniac dope dealing raptist Mario. So there should be NO EXCUSES for what the Mother did! NONE!

Stephie   November 20th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

I live here and it is no surprise that neither of these individuals is being held on higher bonds. Par for the course around here, especially sex crimes! The DA's office here has never really been aggressive when it comes to child abuse cases, even sexual abuse. I dare say it appears these kinds of cases are not a high priority for that office – until they become national headlines. I hope and pray they handle this as well as the Fayetteville Police department has! This little girl deserves it – and all the other children that have come before her and not received national exposure.

Wendy   November 20th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

My thoughts and prayers are with Shaniya and her family and friends who loved her. May God give you the strength to get you through this difficult time. Seeing the pictures of this sweet little girl and knowing that her own mother is responsible for her little girls death breaks my heart. It is so obvious in every picture how well taken care of this sweet angel was by her father and his family. She was so happy and full of life and love.

I hope this mother and this guy get exactly what they deserve. Life in prision to me is not enough. They should suffer the same fate that little angel did. Even the death penalty is too easy for these too. Put them in general population. Even prisioners have their standards especially when it comes to child killers.

Nancy, thank you from the bottom of my heart for fighting for injustice and standing up for victims.

angel   November 20th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

These criminals need to be executed for what they did to this beautiful little girl.

Leslie   November 20th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

Another comment to the attorney who said the mother may not have had ill intent, maybe she just wanted to put her child on HOLD.

Yeah, maybe the mother thought, here baby go with this killer rapist for me, and if I dont come through with his money, he will rape and kill you instead of my cowardous self.

This mother should be charged w/ 1st degree rape and murder too!

Idays   November 20th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

I can't even express the grief and how I feel over this case. I have a 4 year old and this case has my heart broken. I don't know what is going on with our legal system, we hear more and more of these cases as days go by and yet nothing is put in place to help put a stop to this. I feel that this our responsibility. The responsibility of all of us that just sit and watch, I think it is time that we all just make our voices heard and at least attempt to make a difference for the sake of our children and all of the children out there that are victims of monsters like this man and woman.

California heartbroken   November 20th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

I am sick to my stomach! I have been crying my eyes about about this case since I herd about it. I hope the father didn't know about the alleged abuse and drug raid in july. If he did then he too need to be charged. He handed his baby over to someone else who hannded his baby over. Anyways, I too have been watching Nancy grace for a long time.. This story, like little caylee and somer ect, makes me feel like I'm going 2 vomit! For god sakes this monster Mario shot someone in the face and was not it jail 4 life?? That is a MAJOR justice system fail!!! I wish, wish, wish I could have saved her or could do something now to have prevented this. NO PUNISHMENT the courts will impose will even be a pinch of JUSTICE! This could have all been avoided!!! JUSTICE 4 SHANIYA!!!

Marilyn   November 20th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

As i said before , the girl's father should have checked in to things. What is his story? How many kids and wives has he had? Our justice system is screwed up just like everything else in our country. Defense lawyers make me want to PUKE, they are a joke. People sitting on death row for years, that wants me want to puke, I am 73 now and a lot of thinks want to make me PUKE big time.

Gina from Michigan   November 20th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

I have sincere doubts in our legal system getting justice for this beautiful little girl. I will hold out and pray that while in prison these 2 monsters are taken care of for us. That will be justification for our tax dollars to house all these criminals we support.

DANNY BAYLOR   November 20th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

This case just breaks my heart. I am a mother of a beautiful little girl and I would die before I allowed anything to happend to her. People say i am too protective of my daughter. There is no such thing of being to protective when there are monsters like this around. They deserve to suffer. Shaniya was a beautiful beautiful child and her pictures haunt me to no end. I will pray that her soul rests and that her mother and the monster never have a chance to rest again.

sondra   November 20th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

i am so saddened by this tragedy.this innocent beautiful angel looked so full of life and love,im a mom of two children,i used to watch my children closely,i cannot comphehend, how a mother can do such eviil.im so angry to know that ppl like that monstor,is out of prison.when are our children gonna be safe.i would like to see them both hung by a rope.no emotions just evil ppl they are.

jd   November 20th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

we should be saddened by this story, but not surprised, the BIble speaks of these things happening--"in the last days there will be very difficult times. for people will love only themselves and thier money. they will be boastful and proud scoffing at God, they will consider NOTHING sacred. they will be unloving and unforgiving they will slander others and have no self control they will be crueland have no interest in what is good. they will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God" 2tim3:1-4NLT.The problem is that the world is sinful and too many people are rejecting the ONLY one who can save us from our sins and our sinful nature and that person is Jesus Christ the son of the living God. our hearts should be hurting not only for Shaniya and her family as they go through this ordeal and having to go through it in the public eye, but for our world that is allowing sin to completely take control. we disregard Gods commands and even God himself and then wonder whats happening with the world. we dont listen when God has made it known that sex is meant to be within marriage and having "one night stands" could end up with you having to share a child with a person that is not fit to be a mother. we don't listen when God tells us that we should not be led by things that intoxicate us, like alcohol(drugs),things that will mess up our thinking so bad that we would sell, rape, and kill an innocent child, but instead be lead by the Holy Spirit. God is loving and caring he wnats a relationship with us but he will not force himself on us we have to want him. would you want to be in a relationship and the love was not mutual? God knows and sees all and Shanyia's mother, this Mario guy, and whoever else was involved will have to stand before God the ultimate judge on day. Justice will be served. we need Jesus peole, that is what's wrong with the world.

Niema   November 20th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

This case has truly touched my heart. My heart is crying out for Shaniya. I can't imagine anything like this happening to my 8 year old niece or any other child in this world. My thing is that its some many women in this world that wants kids and can't have them, but we have dumb parents out here that neglect their kids like Shaniya's mother has done. This little girl was beyond BEAUTIFUL and the mother should have been taking GOD for this beautiful little baby. God knows when we're all suppose to go, so I feel as if that was her day to go but she didn't have to be murdered. My thoughts and prayers are with this famil. I hope that the mother gets charged with murder and get sentenced to death and I hope that mr. McNeil gets death too because both of their actions were wrong.

Marsha   November 20th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Fitting punishment: Somewhat unconventional but thorough.

1. secure subject in wire hangers and drop toes first slowly into a vat of hot boiling oil; slowly lower until the oil reaches the top surface of his head. in case of early unconsiousness(before the submission is complete) stop the lowering pull subject out of oil; REVIVE; proceed.

2 while in an alcohol bath begin at the toes and remove skin from body compeletely; advise subject not to scream or the process will slow down.

Krose - Mom of 3 NYC   November 20th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Thank you Shaniya, little angel in heaven – today, November 20th, 2009 is a game changing day for me. Your story has changed my life as I have been totally devastated about what you've had to suffer through during your short life on this earth. You remind me of my own daughter – you could be twins – I wish you could have met one another. Please rest assured that your story has brought so many people together – for justice on behalf of you. I never knew you, but feel like I do – your smile and demeanor is just wonderful and I am sure that you cherished all the joyful moments in your life – please rest in peace – you will always be on our minds and we will continue to feel your presence – we know that you are having so many joyful moments up there in Heaven.

For anyone who had a hand in ANYTHING leading up to this horrific events, I have no words to even speak out of my mouth. My first instinct is to get a gun and hunt you down – but that won't make Shaniya come back will it? So, I have to focus on figuring out how to make something positive come out of all this negativity – my life will change today and my energy will be redirected to making sure that society stops breeding people like you in the future.

Joanna Mulcahy   November 20th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

I'm just disgusted with the so-called Mom. I think the father should not live with the guilt of letting her go with her "Mom." People do, especially parents who haven't abused deserve a 2nd chance.
The mere fact that this child will never see daylight again because of an unpaid debt is beyond words. I usually wouldn't say death penalty or eye for an eye. In this case ABSOLUTELY!! He should pay for what he did, if in fact he did murder her. The problem is if convicted he will sit on death row for years and tax payers will pay for him to sleep and eat.

He needs Jesus! That's the only that could save his soul!
My thoughts and prayers go out to Shaniya's family in this difficult time. Now more than ever is when you all need to stick together and know that she is in a better place smiling down on you!

Breeze   November 20th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

My heart is so broken for this baby. She suffered something NO ONE should ever have to indure @ any point in life. My mind cannot wrap itself around the fact that a woman who carried her for 9mths, went through labor pains and produced one of the most beautiful children that I have ever seen put her into the hands of a man she knew would harm her. I am so enraged with this chic...every time I look @ her face on the tv I want to smack the dog sh** out of her and as for ole boy, i wanna do a Mrs Bobbit on his a**.

I know that Shaniya is with God now. She is in a place that most of us strive for every day. Rest well princess and sore with the eagles.

Angela Salinas   November 20th, 2009 3:18 pm ET

This is wrong on so many levels. Normally we see the mugshots of these evil murderous so and so's. But to see her sweet little face as she is being carried by this beast probably with that intent on his mind on the picture.Maybe kidbnapper is the wrong word. Give her mother credit for what she did. She sold that child, and Mario was the buyer. Her so called mother should be charged in her murder. I know the prosecutors have to watch how they charge her, because the choices they give the jury cannot give her a way out of the stiffest penalty. Kidnapper, maybe, but he abducted that poor child. When the courts are done with the mother, and Mario, they should go right after the school for not contacting the father, and social services. There need to be social services reform. There need to be school reform. If the father didn't formally take her out of school, shouldn't he have been called at least a couple days after she didn't show up? This is just wrong on so many levels.

bearseatoats   November 20th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

We spent zillions of dollars fixing up quantanamo. Send them all there where they will never see a child, woman or helpless person again.

Seems pretty simple to me.

Pamela   November 20th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Dearest Shaniya Nicole Davis,

Sweet and innocent baby girl
You are truly missed, especially by your daddy, you were his world
You have taken angels wings and now rest in the arms of our Father
But we are left heartbroken – your shining star is gone that made this world much brighter

You didn’t deserve to be given away and taken hostage
Your world as you knew it was snatched without your knowledge
You didn’t deserve to have your precious life destroyed by someone so senseless
You didn’t deserve to have your innocence shattered by someone so heartless

Wish I could have been there to hold you in my arms; you were terrified and all alone
Wish I could have been there to comfort you; you cried out but no one heard you moan
Wish I could have been there to protect you; you were so defenseless
Wish I could have covered you darling little princess

Sweet and innocent baby girl
You are truly missed by the entire world
You have taken wings and now rest in the arms of our Father
But we are left heartbroken – your shining star is gone that made this world much brighter

I don't believe the death sentence is the answer for either of these people. They should have to live a long, painful life knowing what they have done. They might not care right now but once the drugs are out of their systems they have to face what they have done. The mother should never be given the chance to see her other children and the unborn child should never be placed in her arms. A death sentence is making life too easy for them.

Joanna Wentzlaff   November 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

Unbelieveable. There is truly a war on our children. We as a society need to look out for eachother's children. If you see something suspcious or you have ANY IDEA that a child is being abused MAKE IT YOUR BUSINESS. Shaniya is one of MANY children that are being abused, raped, murdered EVERYDAY. We need to take these abuses very personally. She is everyone's daughter, everyone's grand daughter, everyone's baby. We need to by hypersensitive when it comes to suspecious behavior. STEP IN AND MAKE IT YOUR BUSINESS, from the neighbors, to the hotel clerk, to the family members. WE have to protect OUR children. There are MANY evil and twisted people wanting kill, mangle, rape and kidnap our children. If it looks suspicious, call athorities, ask questions, be nosey, GET INVOLVED. It could be your child next. God bless Sheniya and her family. Thank you Nancy Grace for being such an amazing woman and advocate. You are America's Hero.

Jennifer McDowell   November 20th, 2009 3:39 pm ET

May God heal the pain this baby family is going through.....It is so hard to believe a Mother would allow something so horrible to happen to her little girl....May justice be done to all involved....."One Day At A Time"...my prayers go out to the family.....and Nancy Grace thank you for keeping these horrible crimes in the spot light........I love your show....

Donna   November 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

Hello Nancy..my husband and I watch your show all the time...My husband said that to punish the devil who did this to Shaniya he should have his eyes poked out and be castrated. I say be put in general population of prison and let someone do what needs to be done. I am not a person who approves of violence, but in this case and in all cases of child abuse of any kind, it is so well deserved. What monsters. This whole case makes me so mad.

tara   November 20th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

they should give the mother and man both the death senctence!!!! GOD BLESS THE ANGEL!

Donna   November 20th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Hello Nancy. My husband and I watch your show all the time. We love how you say what you feel and don't hold back about the sad cases that are discussed on your show. My husband and I were talking and he said that guy should be castrated and have his eyes poked out... I feel he should be in general population and let other prisoners take care of him. and the mother too.....Poor little Shaniya... May she be at peace, the little angel that she is.... This whole thing makes me so mad. It is getting out of hand now. every week a child is missing.

Shar   November 20th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

There is a man walking free right now after sexually abusing me from the age 4-13. I don't know what to do I told my parents and nothing was ever done. Can anybody tell me what to do.
He married a women who had 2 little girls and they had a son together he left his son in MI and they moved to FL. I know what he is doing to the girls because he did it to me.

Linda   November 20th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

What kind of parent would leave their child with someone with this mother's track record. I would leave my child for a few hours – but days??? Also – now they're saying the home was a pig sty. Didn't the father check out where the child would be living before leaving her??? I would give the mother a second chance for a few hours at first – and be constantly checking to make sure the child was safe and the mother really had changed. The father needs to be held accountable.

vicki jung-minneapolis   November 20th, 2009 3:02 pm ET

Nancy, Thanks for being all of our voices. I love youXX

josephina   November 20th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

I am very disturbed by this story and I didn't know this little angel and I live on across the country, however, I cant imagine what was going through here precious little mind when these horrible things were happening to her. My heart just aches that she was failed by so many people...even the ones she didnt even know. I hope her little body didnt die in vain. We have to be tougher on crimes like this because the strange part is that the sick person that did this to her probably doesnt even give a s–t! A little slap on the wrist is not enough when it come to a defenseless child. We have to do better than this America.

PWalker   November 20th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

Such a tragedy, and a sick one at that. Keep up the good work Nancy on getting these sicko's behind bars. I only have on fault with you, however. I realize that you love your children as any good mother does, but to repeatedly talk about and flaunt your children while doing a show on the death of someone else' child is sick in it'sself. YOu shouldn't do that.

Amber Allen   November 20th, 2009 3:16 pm ET

I cannot help but hope there is a special place in hell reserved for monsters like Mario McNeill. Antoinette Davis...I do not have words. I am a mother of three daughters and I simply cannot imagine a mother allowing anything to take place that would put her own children in harm's way. I would give my own life before I allowed another to take one of my children's lives. My heart and prayers go out to Shaniya's father and the rest of her family.

April   November 20th, 2009 3:19 pm ET

This story is just beyond belief, I cant even bring my self to imagine what horrible things this beautiful child of god, had to endure. This world is filled with evil. I lost my daughter( who minds you looks just like shaniya) to cancer and my pain is no where near this fathers pain ,of not know what happend to his child. My prayer goes out to this father that in time he may heal from such a deep wound. Begin strong
GOD will bring you threw this.

Brown   November 20th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

Mmmm....Is it possible that Shaniya made a run for it? Remember the neighbor heard banging on the door and her fav blanket was found with feces on it. I am betting that she was sodomized and then the bastards fell asleep and Shaniya attempted to run away and was caught. That would explain the feces on the door knob and railing.

Paula   November 20th, 2009 3:26 pm ET

Nancy thanks for giving this beautiful child a voice. I pray for her family everyday and my heart breaks for them.

joann   November 20th, 2009 3:31 pm ET

Please no trail, let's just kill him now and save the tax people money!!!!

Gail   November 20th, 2009 3:32 pm ET

Can anyone tell me why the father would let his daughter go live with the mother? He had his daughter for five years, so one day he just decides to let her go live with her. This sounds suspicious to me. He knew the mother's history and let her go there. What kind of a man does that? One more question, the news reported she had been missing from school since October, why did the father not call the school and ask how she was doing in school? Why did the school not call the father? Almost sounds like a conspiracy to kill a child. Shame on the school but more importantly shame on the father for not checking up on his child. The news said she had cigarette burns on her, could the father at least have called and asked how she was doing. Don't you think a five year old could have said she was burned to her father. I am pissed at the father for being so stupid. Sorry!!!

Jocelyn Paige   November 20th, 2009 3:34 pm ET

This evil act has my heart bleeding. Every adult in that house should be charged with a criminal act. How is it that animals protect their children and we as human beings don't seem to give a damn.

Women want a man so bad that they are willing to do anything to get one and to keep him. The Mother and the Monster who took this precious child should be placed in a special room and bent over with a sign saying "Open for Business" every day including holidays and let them see how it feels to be violated. I hope that each time this Mother closes her eyes; she sees her beautiful daughter and will never ever be able to sleep again.

MARCY SMITH   November 20th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

THEY SHOULD BOTH BE EXECUTED. BETTER YET VIOLATED AND THEN HUNG. DOESNT MATTER WHICH ONE DID WHAT. THEY ARE BOTH TWISTED SICK PSYCHOS. OR JUST LET THEM FREE AND SEE HOW LONG THEY LAST. OUT OF CURIOUSITY, WHO AND WHAT WAS ON THE TAPE OF THE MAN LEAVING THE HOTEL?

sandra   November 20th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

The father knew what kind of woman had his baby and still left the baby with her just to go on a business trip, yet, he claimed he was giving her a second chance. Second chance for what? He is just to blame and I hope this teaches him to put a condom on when having sex.

a thought   November 20th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

Maybe Mario took Shaniya to the hotel to abuse her, clean her up and hand her off to someone, and when the amber alert went out and the persons to whom he was giving her to didn't show, in a panic he decided to discard her. The smirk may have been because he thought he was so clever to have hidden her where he was sure no one would find her.

Wasn't there a report recently where the law enforcement broke up a huge child pornography ring and several children were recovered? Were any of the children found ones that Nancy had done specials on? we haven't heard of anyone being recovered. If not, where did they get these (the ones that were rescued in the raid) children? Were they just handed off and not reported missing?

We have to be able to do something to find justice for little Shaniya and children who have suffered as she did in her final days.

Marilyn   November 20th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

Dear Nancy,

I don't know whether you read what we write, but I have to say something. Am 73 years old, watch you every night. Until the system is changed these murders and rapes will just increase. Can't you try to change it? I know that is impossible because from the White House down to the smallest court in the country it is all the same. BS BS more BS. No common ,sense just lies and cover ups. Moved near the Amish 25 years ago, it is just the same, no better at all. Why do they let people sit on death row for years? Get rid of them. Why are defense lawyers allowed to make up outlandish statements. My three year old great granddaughter is smarter than they are and If I live long enough she will be much smarter. I gave up on all these things years ago, there is nothing I can do except bitch. My country has changed so much I don't even recognize it.

Thanks for listening I hope
Marilyn

sandra   November 20th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Love you Nancy, thanks for keeping the public aware of the trash that is out there harming our children. If it was not for your show we would never know about our children. The other networks need to get onboard with the up-to-date news about our children.

Angeroonie1   November 20th, 2009 4:01 pm ET

gail: I totally agree. I'm sorry but when you raise a child for 5 years a loving parent wouldn't just hand over their child the way he did. I don't buy the whole story of wanting to give mom a second chance. The reason I don't buy it is because he NEVER checked on her. NOT ONCE the entire time she was with the mom. I don't care how much money my out of town job brought me. You'd have to kill me to keep me from my child if there were any indication he/she might be in harms way. He's also just a little too anxious to get in front of the cameras. It's very clear he's enjoying the attention and sympathy. That poor baby never had a chance.

THIS BEAUTIFUL, PRECIOUS, INNOCENT, ANGEL, SHANIYA! THE VERY FIRST TIME I SEEN HER PICTURE FLASH ON MY SCREEN, SHE CAPTURE MY HEART!! THIS LITTLE GIRL HAS TOUCHED ME IN WAYS I COULD NEVER EXPLAIN!! KEEP SHINING BABY GIRL, WE WILL NEVER LET YOU BE FORGOTTEN!!!

amy   November 20th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

I hope that the mother and anyone else involved in this can read these comments. She deserves to DIE for what she did to her own daughter. We need to start executing these murderers, instead of letting them bleed the taxpayers! n Just think of how many murderes each of us supports with our money we work so hard for...is that where we want to spend it...I sure don't. Let's show them the same curtosy they bestowed upon their victims!

MARCY SMITH   November 20th, 2009 4:35 pm ET

ALL OF THE IDIOTS THAT ARE BLAMING THE FATHER NEED TO SHUT-UP. OBVIOUSLY HE WOULDNT JUST WAKE UP ONE DAY AFTER TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF HER AND THEN DECIDE TO DROP HER OFF SOMEWHERE HE THOUGHT THAT SHE WOULD GET HURT. HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE DRUG RAIDS AND SUCH. YOU ARE VERY IGNORANT PEOPLE AND NEED TO THINK BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH. ANYONE CAN HAVE A DRUG PROBLEM AND THEN STRAIGHTEN THEIR LIVES OUT. DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE SUBJECT TO PIMP OUT AND KILL THEIR CHILDREN. WOW.... IT JUST FREAKS ME OUT THAT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SO DOWN ON THE DAD DONT HAVE MUCH TO SAY ABOUT HOW THIS WOMAN COULD DO THIS. I AM SURE YOU HAVE A TRACKING DEVICE ON YOUR KID AND ARE WITH THEM EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. BTW. YES A FIVE YEAR OLD COULD SAY THEY GOT BURNED BUT NOT IF THEY ARE ABUSED AND SCARED. SO WHO ARE YOU BLAMING THAT ON? THE CHILD. LET ME GUESS , YOU THINK SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD SOMEONE.

Kelley   November 20th, 2009 4:40 pm ET

I can not understand this. I am just heartbroken for this poor little girl. The suffering and terror she went through before death. Where was god. Why does he not step in some how when these terrible crimes happen. I am so completely disgusted and my heart is so heavy.
The accused and the mother.. the death penalty is too good for them – But is it right for me we wish sever suffering for them both?

I can not believe when someone is born they are born evil but how and when does it change that the evil presents it like this –

I just can not understand this.

Caroline Jones   November 20th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

This tragedy has truly broken my heart!! I have a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice & I watch Nancy Grace faithfully! I am so heart broken about this beautiful baby girl and how her life came to an end!!! I dont see what a 29 yr old man would see in a 5 yr old baby or what kind of satisfaction he would get from a 5 yr old baby!! It kills me to think of what Shaniyah had to go through, the fear that she went through, the pain of having a 29 yr old man having forcing sex upon her....That within itself would kill her-a 5 yr old baby!! I just cannot wrap my mind around such sick actions!! When they showed this nasty *ss man carrying her in the hotel I could see the confusion and fear on her face!

shasta   November 20th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

I can not grasp the concept of this mother any mother handing her innocent daughter over with such intentions. Can somebody please tell me what evidence they have against her in this case i'm not defending her just as a mother carrying a child for 9months this blows me!!!!!! We know theres evidence against him but what about the Mother i have not heard of any evidence against her and if she did this she needs to be charged with felony murder and that has not happened yet why???? hopefully they are not going off the murders words considering they made a false arrest the first time I just want justice for this innocent baby RIP SHANIYA AMERICA REMEMBERS YOU!!!!!

Wendy Warren   November 20th, 2009 5:06 pm ET

I want to question on why they haven't zoomed in on Shanyia face in the video they have of her and her killer going into the hotel. Wouldn't her face tell alot. Just from the view you see on tv, it looks like she wasn't scared. Don't you think that if she was kidknapped, with her mother not knowing or having something to do with it. Shanyia wouldn't have been going in that hotel with that man quietly... From the look on her face just from the view that i see on tv. She looks like she's trusting the person thats carring her in that hotel.
I have a 5 year old daughter myself. And I know that if your 5 year old feels unsafe, lost, or can't find her mother or father. They wouldn't be quiet and calm like the way Shayia looks in that video..

God will make them pay for what they did.
To the Famliy We will Pray for you.

Denise Duncan   November 20th, 2009 5:29 pm ET

I am so upset by this story that I'll I've done is cry but I wish they would stop showing the pictures of the guy taking her into the hotel. It is very disturbing. Would you want to see Otis Toole carrying Adam Walsh into his car etc? They keep showing it over and over and over! It makes me sick to see her in his arms. Stop showing it! Also I know we're not supposed to "blame" the father but I think the word would be "responsible". He IS partly responsible. And I know we're not supposed to say anything like that but I have to agree with Grandmother in Seattle. This trailer was deemed unfit for people to live in. The manager of the mobile home park said last night that it was a pigsty and she was getting ready to evict them. Why didn't he check out where the mother was living? Why didn't he check out her friends and who was around the house? Why when she had a history of problems did he just take her word for everything? Addicts and alcoholics LIE! I'm a recoving alcoholic/addict and I could've made ANYTHING sound good.

Angeroonie1   November 20th, 2009 5:50 pm ET

Mr. Lockhart appeared on Oprah today and has set up some sort of fund in Shaniyas name. I would be locked up in a mental institution or so heavily sedated I could not speak. He just keeps losing credibility with me. I feel for all the hurt and guilt he must be going through but I just don't understand his actions.

ButtBookey   November 20th, 2009 6:32 pm ET

What is wrong with our parents today so many abuse cases against kids have arose in the past year i dont understand. Children do not ask to be here and our job as parents are to love and protect our children. Lil Shaniya deserves justice and her mother should be punished as well.

SHARNIQUE MCDONALD   November 20th, 2009 7:01 pm ET

I am a 26yr single mother with 3 kids.i have two daughters ages 3 and 4 and my son 6yrs old.i continue to pray for baby shaniyas family and i know that shes up in heaven now where no one can hurt her.i love my kids so much and cant even imagine what was going thru her mothers mind when she handed her baby over to that monster who did this unspeakable murder.in spanish people like him are called 'bestias' a beast.people here in El PasoTX know all to well the crimes that are commited on children because it happens here often and across the border in mexico as well.thank you nancy for being baby shaniyas voice and to all the the innocent kids that have been victimized by disgusting people that deserve the death penalty.the north carolina court system has failed their children, this monster should have been off the streets long time ago.i hope they follow californias 3 strikes law and maybe a tragedy like this could be prevented in the future.

T   November 20th, 2009 7:15 pm ET

I can't wait until this mother goes to prison. Cops will probly have to put her in protective custody.

My heart goes out to Shaynia's family. I'm sad with you. I have shed a lot of tears for you.

CHERISE JOHNSON   November 20th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

I watch your show Nancy every night. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO !! What really gets to be is the picture of this little girl being held at the hotel. She had her hand on THIS MONSTERS shoulder, like she trusted him and did not seem afraid. That hand on his shoulder bothers me alot. Nothing more than evil , I hope he burns !! Why in the world did they let him out of jail ??

A Haskell   November 20th, 2009 7:48 pm ET

This case of Shaniya is horrifying. I love Nancy Grace's show, even though it is very hard to watch at times.Could Nancy Grace question the father as to how he could possibly send his daughter back to her unfit mother? Why didn't he check out the poor little girls living conditions? Why didn't he drop the little girl off himself and make sure the poor thing wasn't entering a complete hell hole? I would never drop my child off to visit or to live without making sure there was food, clothing, bedding and a fit parent to take over!! Would anyone else reading this drop their child off like castaway clothing? No, he did not murder this little girl, but he sure as hell knew that the place and adults were unfit! I know people have different standards of living, but feces on the porch, a condemed trailer and a stoned, DSS investigated mother, would be a red flag for any person with half a brain. This case screams extreme neglect on the father's part and murder on the mother's part.

Jack Slade   November 20th, 2009 7:50 pm ET

This is a horrible disgusting case. It is just very fortunate that they have caught the perps. That said, it is crucial that we as a country recognize that we need to overhaul dysfunctional parts of our social systems, i.e. Dept of Family Services, Probation. This child was failed on so many levels it is heart-breaking. And if we don't learn lessons from this, it will happen again and again.

Denise Casey   November 20th, 2009 7:54 pm ET

I have read post after post about how the father was in the wrong for letting Shaniya visit with her mother and I disagree. Granted, a mother has to do something pretty damned bad for her child to be taken away from her, but we all dont know the entire story behind this case. Maybe, just maybe, he wanted his daughter to be a wake up call for her mother so that she could be a productive mother...one that Shaniya could eventually rely on and confide in as she grew older...who knows WHY the dad let her visit the mom, but HE didn't murder his daughter. I watched the footage of this man finding out that his daughter was dead, it was clear that he was devastated, that his heart had been torn to pieces, that he probably didn't want to live either, now that his little girl was gone. No matter why he handed over Shaniya for a visit, I'm sure he NEVER wanted the visit to end like this. Get off Dad's rear, his daughter was just raped and murdered!!

theresa simpson   November 20th, 2009 8:04 pm ET

my heart goes out to shanyia davis and her family rip 5 year old shanyia . and please leave the dad alone!
he is dealing with alot being that his baby girl is gone ,and he will never she her again. put it on the mom and her sick ,sick, sick friend of hers all for drugs . what kind of mom is she.

ashley   November 20th, 2009 8:44 pm ET

I love the show watch it every night. Im very sad over the Shinya case. I think they should both get death. Im wondering if since they had video of mario taking her in the hotel, if they had vidoe of him leaving , and if they don't why is that, he had to leave at some point, and if they can get that, the cased should be closed before it even opens. They both are cold, and heartless, and need to be put down asap, no waiting like they normaly do.My heart goes out to the father and his family. God bless and my family and I love the show very very much!!!

san   November 20th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Why didn't the

PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THE CLERK.

WHY DIDN'T THE CLERK AT THE HOTEL REALIZE SOMETHING WAS WRONG? THIS MAN WAS CARRYING A FIVE YEAR OLD WHO LOOKED LIKE SHE WAS IN DISTRESS. LOOK AT THE WAY SHE WAS HOLDING ON TO HIM. HER ARM IS WRAPPED IN FRONT OF HIM NOT IN BACK LIKE SOMEONE WOULD NORMALLY DO.

ida stocks   November 20th, 2009 9:01 pm ET

did police check the hotel room that mcneill was in with shaniya
to see if she was murdered in the hotel rm. there should have been some evedience of the rape. like to hear my question on the air,
and i think someone else met mcneill with shaniya, he could not have made that trip in that time. i think the child was not there at the time the mother said i think the first thing she said was true shaniya was taken at 5;30 THAT EVENING, and when she didnt return the mom had to make up some story to to tell police so i think she said it was a kidnapping to cover her own ass. knowing shaniya was not there.
this is truely a dark day here and will be for a long time, i have been to the hospital over this story, this is very stressful on a lot of people
GOD bless shaniya, and everyone that didnt have a part in this awful mess, and bring comfort to the ones who truely loved her
rest in peace baby girl ida stocks AND FAMILY FROM FAYETTEVILLE NC GOD HAS YOU NOW AND HE TRUELY LOVES YOU.

There are no words to describe how I feel and I know that we all feel the same way. This should have never happened. Nancy, when are we going to have laws that will protect our children and what can we do to have those laws changed? These animals should be put to death or given a life sentence. We need to protect our children if not us then who will protect them? When is this country going to stand up for our children? I'm so angry and disgusted. Laws have to be changed. God bless the Davis family and all the other families that are going through the same thing and may you now rest in peace little angel.

Wendy   November 20th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

I can`t believe what the hell goes through peoples minds anymore. And why oh why are these so called people are allowed to have kids. It ticks me off to no end that I could never have kids & yet you see these scumbags have kids galore & abuse them like they are a piece of garbage. God forgive me Lord...but an eye for an eye...that would be justice for these poor (((((kids))))) that are being abused & murdered by these CREEPS!!!! None of this sitting pretty in a jailcell, & getting free meals, a nice warm bed...BS.....MAKE THEM PAY ...but make it a slowwwwwwwwwww death...tie them to a pole & let the public have a go at `em. Then maybe alot of this BS would stop. The court system is a BIG JOKE when it comes to these poor (((kids))) that have their lives taken from them

Rosita   November 20th, 2009 9:45 pm ET

Another thing that disgusts me is the people on here that are down talking the father. They should be ashamed. From what I recall the father worked out of town sometimes which for one means he had to travel a lot. That’s probably why he let his sister watch Shaniya. Second I’m pretty sure the woman “if we should call her that?” let me rephrase, the animal that gave birth to Shaniya probably cleaned her house before the father or others would come over. I’m sure she portrayed to be a changed woman and tried her best to convince others she changed for her daughter. I’m sure she hid her true self from the father. No parent would make a decision to send a child where they thought was unsafe. Especially a father like Mr. Lockhart from what I can tell he provided well for his daughter and took care of her. But after enough begging and pleading he decided to do the right thing and give a mother a second chance. But unfortunately she was no mother she was a con-artist who one way or another will pay for what she has done.

Paula Walker   November 20th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

They have video of him carrying the baby in there..where is the video of them going out???

Paula Walker   November 20th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Look at the video, the sick bastard is looking right at the childs vaginal area. Why did someone not call the police sooner. where is the video of them leaving.

Josephina   November 20th, 2009 11:10 pm ET

Shaniya could have been any one of our daughters, sister, niece, grand or friend. The poor thing had no idea when she was waiting on the elevator that it would lead to death by the hands of some one she knew and maybe wanted to trust would do the right thing. What makes a person want to harm and kill a defenseless little child?? I am all for capital punishment when it comes to some one hurting a precious, priceless beautiful child.
It is not easy being a single parent, I know first hand, and the father probably did what he thought was best for his daughter...letting her bond with her mother. And maybe Shaniya even asked where her mother was. Problem is, this mother could have cared less....look at what she did. She just used her and allowed her to be used and then killed. This case needs to be a serious wake up call for all of us. Our government can protect banks, the auto industry and every other kind of industry but the people we have voted into office cant even make our children a priortiy. We MUST save our children!

Margaret Reynolds   November 20th, 2009 11:53 pm ET

This is the most horrible tragedy I have ever heard of. Poor Shaniya, God Bless Her and God Bless her Family. I can't believe that anyone would have the nerve to blame the father. He didn't maliciously place her with her mother. From the reports I've seen, he wanted her to have a "relationship" with the mother and he thought she would be "OK". There are a lot of questions surrounding this, but regardless, the father had Shaniya for many years and she was safe. It WAS the "mother" who "sold" her for money/drugs/.... It is the mother's fault, how SICK is she to ever allow her baby to be hurt. Let's not forget all those responsible for this beautiful girl's death. If you are a parent, then you should know that there is no EXCUSE for what happened to this little angel. God Bless Shaniya.

ROSE   November 21st, 2009 12:28 am ET

I am wondering if the detectives have talked to the sister/aunt... The one who lived at the home with Antoinette... What if Antoinette really did wake up to find Shaniyah gone but the door locked... Maybe the Aunt knows something. I just think they need to look at everyone a little closer. Maybe even question the 7 yr old that was at the home. Although her lack of emotion is beyond creepy maybe thats due to all the drugs she has taken. She does look a little "off". None the less just like everyone else here I am deeply hurt by this story... No other case has ever gotten to me like this... I am so tired of hearing these stories all the time... I truly beleive the world is coming to a end... Not only do you have adults killing kids but you have kids killing kids! WHAT THE HELL! Everytime I see her little face my heart just hurts. I wish I could've been there to protect her. No child should EVER have to be subjected to any sort of abuse. I wish I could protect them all, I really do. I am not a mother but I am an aunt and the oldest of 6 children and I could only imagine how I would react if someone were to harm any of my siblings or younger relatives! I just pray to god that this madness stops. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! No more please!

Karen Martin   November 21st, 2009 1:45 am ET

This breaks my heart. My heart felt prayers go out to the the father & the Grandparents of this little angel. I have Grandchildren of my own and i just don't understand how this could happen. God bless this child and her family. i'am so sorry that things like happen to the most precious of things in the world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary Beth   November 21st, 2009 1:47 am ET

Pat Brown, the former FBI profiler who was on the show tonight, had it right. The father displayed neglect. Finally someone had the courage to say this on TV. Who in their right mind would drop off a five year old to give the mother a second chance? Then he goes out of town for five weeks. His son was heard saying "even felons get a second chance". Not with the life of a precious child. The father should have checked into the circumstances of where he was sending Shaniya to live!!!! Nice environment he sent her into, drugs being bought and sold and who knows what else. Everyone is to blame here. No one put Shinaya first and this is what happened.

Denise Duncan   November 21st, 2009 1:58 am ET

Oh and one more thing......now really, really think about this........There is no doubt that she would be alive today if this father had done his due diligence. I repeat....she would still be alive today if her father had done his due diligence!!!!!!! Really really think about it! He has a lot of nerve blaming DSS for not notifying him etc etc. He put out absolutely no effort to make sure she was in a safe place. As I said before there is something "off" about this guy. He also seems to like his face time on TV just a little too much. Again I say.......... Shaniya Davis would be alive today if her father had done his due diligence!

Larry Brooks   November 21st, 2009 3:11 am ET

Nancy, I hope in this case justice is swift, nothing less than the death penalty, should be accepted, I just hope that prisoners don't get to him before justice is served.

Erin   November 21st, 2009 4:01 am ET

I am a mother of an 18 month old and I could not imagine in my wildest dreams doing something like this. He is my reason for breathing every day! Shaniya and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. I was just wondering have the cops talked to anyone else that was checked into the hotel at this time-did anyone maybe in the room next door hear anything–shaniya screaming or crying? Also, is there surveillance of them leaving the hotel or witnesses? How does anyone know he left the hotel with her when she was alive or could the murder have happened in the hotel possibly during the rape and then he took her body and dumped it? I am not familiar with the area as I am from Michigan but they said she was found off a main highway...Did he park on the side of the road or was there somewhere he could park that he would not be seen? How did noone see him getting her out of the car and to the woods??? I am just baffled by all of this and cant imagine the pain this family is going through. With my deepest sympathy I hope the family can find peace and know this little baby is in a better place with no more harm!

Marsha   November 21st, 2009 9:58 am ET

Nancy! The other day when I saw the brother on TV and then the father just snuck up from behind...I got the sickest felling , it was kind of eerie! That boy is scared of that man and he's hiding something...something's not right with this whole situation and now he keeps jumping his ass in front TV everywhere...sit your ass down and stop lying.

Kelly   November 21st, 2009 11:04 am ET

This case is so disturbing on so many levels. This poor baby should have NEVER been left with her mother in the first place. Did her father or aunt look at the trailer where she was living? It is my understanding that it is filthy. It also sounds like her father did not spend much time with her – passing her off to ex-girlfriends, friends and family members. He did not murder her but he certainly neglected her. I hope that justice prevails for this little girl. Now someone is looking out for her but what about before her death? Her father can throw up this religious smoke screen all he wants – but he needs to pray for forgiveness. Her mother is a sick drug addict and her father is irresponsible. Seems like the only thing he is good for is getting women pregnant. He does not know how to be a father.

stacey   November 21st, 2009 12:03 pm ET

I'm so heartbroken by this story, and like many others have found myself preoccupied with it.... I cry any time I think about it or picture her beautiful face. I'm curious as to what the guidelines are for the death penalty.... I can not imagine a crime as horrific as the rape and murder of a child. And it seems like they have collected so much DNA evidence. I think whatever Mario gets the mother should get x 2. As a mother I would give my life for my children, judt so they wouldn't feel an ounce of pain. I can't image this poor baby crying and begging this monster to stop and probably even crying out for her mother. I can only pray that this time our judicial system will get this right and sentence them both to death.- As far as the father, though my heart goes out to him, something is off to me. Again, I find it strange that for 5 weeks no one knew that she wasnt in school. And if the dad was concerned about the neighborhoods mom lived in, why in the world would you let your daughter stary there. And if she had such a bad drug problem, dad and aunt never saw her high or acting strange. I find it hard to believe that there were no signs that she was a threat to her child. Children tend to overlook flaws in their parents but where was the responsible adult in the situation that could say something is off here.. We need to protect our children.... small people are not small crimes.

Kelly   November 21st, 2009 5:49 pm ET

You can not blame the father for the actions of the sick and twisted woman who gave birth to Shaniya. She is NOT a mother by any means. I am a million percent sure that if he had any idea that child would not have been there! There are sick people everywhere, if you don't believe me go on line and see how many child molesters are in your neighborhood right now! And they have more rights and privacy than the innocent children they prey on. Something has to be done to keep these people in cages where they belong, so that our children can be safe. McNeil had no business on the street with humans. It was obvious that he was a monster long before this. That beautiful little girl would have had a chance to live if he would have been behind bars!!! Stop worrying about the convicts "rights" which the waive during their crimes, and worry about the rights and satety of decent people. This country's child protective services needs an immediate overhaul.

a thought   November 21st, 2009 7:45 pm ET

Denise – denial and narcissism come in all forms and shapes, but as Nancy so eloquently put it – "if you put perfume on a pig, it's still a pig." This family – the father and the aunt – was obviously bothered by the fact that the conditions inside the trailer were substandard at the very least, or they would have entered the trailer when they came to pick up/drop off Shaniya for weekend visits, birthday parties, etc. The authorities used words like "pigstye" "stench" "filthy" and "sewage problems" – how could you not smell it? They knew, on some level, the conditions were bad but in denial. They didn't want to deal with it, so they pretended it wasn't so. They are shame based and parade in front of cameras to show "it wasn't me...i didn't know..." Bull. The more they talk, the worse they look. NO ONE in this so called family should profit in any way from any fund from this poor child's neglect, torture and brutal death. If any money is collected it should go to a charity to help improve the quality of life for the tens of thousands of little children, in similar situations, suffering the way Shaniya did and are still alive. This child, Shaniya, any way you slice it, would be alive today if an adult caregiver put this baby's needs and safety above their own wants. The narcissism.

Deborah Baylor   November 21st, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Hi Nancy
I think there's more to this story than what we know, I'm wondering why did he take her to a Hotel room? its just seems like something a man would do with a grown woman not a child. It seemed very planned, did he pay for the room when he got there? had he reserved the room earlier ? did he not know there would be cameras or someone at the front desk would recognize and remember him. I'm really confused and so very disgusted by all of this.

Sincerely,

Deborah Baylor

I would like to repond to Stan...Because we are a military family...We live in hotels. You can check in by yourself and then come in the side door...He could have checked in with out the baby girl being with him.

sharon   November 22nd, 2009 5:19 am ET

My heart goes out to Shaniya family. I am having problems with the news reported. Already they have arrested the wrong man at first. This beast that was last seen with Shaniya clearly says he kidnapped her. Yet the mother is being charges with giving her daughter to him. child trafficking. In my opinion the timeline supports her story of looking for the child and calling the police to notify them shaniay. Nancy reports the call was made sometime around 5:30 he was see at hotel with her at 6:15 or so. That is consistant with noticing she was missing, looking for her then caling right away. He said he kidnapped her. If the mother is innocent. Shaniya would want her mom to be found innocent not victimized. I hope the mom can get a fair trial from this. She may have been a drug dealer but the facts don't support chld trafficking. She turned on her unborn baby daddy when it came to finding out the truth about Shaniya so it is hard for me to beleive she would support this beast. I want the truth. child trafficking may need a light focused on it and it brings in high drama and good ratings but if mom is innocent I want just as much media coverage focused on that after all she did loose a daughter.

PJ   November 22nd, 2009 12:43 pm ET

The Mother didn't take Shaniya away from the Father, the Father let her go, he claimed he wanted to let the mother have another chance, he did not have to let her go, but he did, he didn't check on her, where she was living or what the condition the home was in, he didn't check with the school on how she was doing in school, he just turned her over, he also has told different stories, he first said he thought he would give her another chance to be a Mother, then he said he didn't know she had problems and was on drugs, that might be true, but she had not been a part of her life, then why turn her over so easy, without even check on her, since the Dad's sister picked her up why didn't she go inside and check on conditions, check with the school, small things for a little while, he just said ok here ya go. to me that was so sad, no one knows what she went thru before this happened, and I do not like to see his face on TV . There is just something about that that bothers me,

Lananisha   November 22nd, 2009 1:30 pm ET

goodmorning Nancy this slaying of this beautiful 5 year old baby has hit us as mothers in Phoenix Arizona really hard I sit and cry for lil Shaniyashe didnt deserve this she had a life ahead of her. My heart and soul hurts with pain for her i Have a 4 year old daughter and i wouldnt ever think on selling my baby to no man woman child nothing babies are percious angles not trash that you just throw out when your done with them and tdont want them to tell the bad that you have done to them My heart goes out to Shaniyas father brother sister and all family and friends she will be surely missed but not forgotten.

On another note Her mother should be charged with murder as well because if she would had never sold that beautiful baby to him she would be still gracing her family with her beautiful smile and face so I as a mother feels she should get charged with the same chrges as that MONSTER

A Loving Mother   November 22nd, 2009 4:46 pm ET

I have been devastated by this, I can not get her out of my mind. How could anyone hurt a child, I have a three year old and her and Shaniya look similar to one another, and it is really brothering me. I don't even know her and I love her as a mother would love her child. Her family member just doesn't seem to be to broken up about it, and it is just really sad that so many other are really devastated by this horrible tragedy. I could not sleep went they announce that they had found her body, why did she have to suffer, why was she the one to have to die. But I know she is in heaven with all the other beatiful ANGELS, looking down on us wondering why we are upset, because she is in the BEST PLACE EVER HEAVEN, where she will never know, no pain and no suffering. I just hope that went she was here on earth that she did not suffer to long, or at all before this tragedy.

I LOVE YOU SO VERY MUCH SHANIYA AND YOU WILL ALWAYS HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART.

Hi Nancy

I watch your show every night & admire your support in helping victims & their families.

The Shaniya story is absolutely heartbreaking. How could anyone be so sick as to hand their baby girl over to a pimp/rapist/murderer?? I pray justice will be served & carried out to the maximum punishment.

Dear Nancy,

What concerns me the most about this case is where are the police getting their information that the mother sold this child to pay a drug debt ? Did she confess? Or was this the confession of Mr Mcneil?? too try explain why he was caught on camera with the baby? If she did in fact do this horrific act...why did she call the police so soon after the child goes missing? For it was her call that alerted the search for Shaniya .Everyone interviewed states that she may have been poor, not living in the best conditions, but definately not that kind of a person, I will reserve my opinion of Ms Davis until futher evidence . However, for that monster of a man" Mario Mcneil' death would be to good for him!!! May he live a VERY long but suffering life!!!

Nita   November 22nd, 2009 8:26 pm ET

the mother of this child should get everyday that he gets and WHY on Gods earth is she in pc put her in population with the rest of them and let them do just what should be done to her she didnt protect the baby Why protect her? THE LOW LIFE WHORE SHOULD JUST DIE SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY. I DONT HAVE KIDS but she is not even fit to be alive

Keri Rettertath   November 22nd, 2009 11:05 pm ET

anyone responsible or who has anything to do with this atrosity will burn in hell. God will have vengeance. This is an unforgiveable crime. It will NEVER be forgiven!!!!

Doris Cope   November 22nd, 2009 11:19 pm ET

Like millions of others, I am sickened outraged and deeply saddened by this heinous crime. I don't know how this mother was allowed to keep custody of little Shaniya to begin with. The Davis woman and the McNeil animal deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The thought of a mother handing over her five year old over for sex is beyond nauseating. The thought of a grown man checking into a hotel with a child horrifies me.

This is personal because I recently attempted to gain custody of my five year old great neice because her mother (my deceased brother's 38 year old daughter ) is negligent to say the least.

Like her 20 year old sister before her, my little 5 year old neice was molested recently by somebody the mother was "dating" or his 15 year old mentally ill nephew... And what did the local Child Protective Services (CPS) folks do? They "temporarily" placed the baby with the uneducated 20 year old sister who is a known exotic dancer and who just had an out-of-wedlock pregnancy and miscarriage and who was repeatedly molested beginning when she was her sister's age and culminating at age 16.

The CPS' stated purpose is to eventually reunite the child with her mother. My neice's case illustrates just how generational the neglect and abuse of children can be. Here we have the same mom abusing from one child to the next child that she had a generation apart. Some people absolutely don't deserve to have children – my neice is one of them! I fear the worst for my little 5 year old neice. I pray that she doesn't end up like poor angel girl Shaniya Davis.

Baby Shaniya didn't deserve to die – she didn't ask to come to this earth. She couldn't help that she was born to an insane mom.
What is the community's responsibility? How can we save the babies from these people?

Doris Cope   November 22nd, 2009 11:28 pm ET

Yikes, I stand corrected! I get the father allowed the baby to visit the mother. I am even more outraged that Baby Shaniya would be exposed to her so-called motherafter it was demonstrated that Davis was unfit. These women don't think about their children until the baby is taken from them. So why should the child be continously exposed to their sickness? Why should children be used as a "wake up call" or therapy for these crazed women? Just makes matters worse in my humble opinion; and as evidenced by poor little Baby Shaniya's murder.

katy   November 22nd, 2009 11:48 pm ET

I find it hard to understand why this guy turned himself in ..is he protecting someone else ..Sad ..for this young girl , a baby of five..the mother and killer should not be spared of any thing ..cast down the worst for what they have done..use them to teach these animals that children / people are not here for their own satisfaction but to learn love and enjoy life..I do not like the word hate but I am all most there with this..So Sad ..so sad..there are no more words to say..

Concerned   November 23rd, 2009 3:00 am ET

The strange thing about the father is that he has 5 children by three different woman. The daughter on Nancy Grace is not fourteen but seventeen and she was kicked out of the home by her father. They stopped showing footage of her. Her neighbor Tim Allen took her in and states Shania came home with cigarette burns on her arms. The boyfriends were putting out their cigarettes on the babys arm. Tim Allen told the father not to send Shania to her mother. Other neighbors wanted to keep the baby and the father refused. What is he hiding??????

a thought   November 23rd, 2009 11:02 am ET

oh, I forgot to add "greed" to the former comment about "denial" and "narcissism." "Greed" is the motive for Shanayia being left with these monsters in the first place. From what I've read on the blogs it is my understanding the Dad had an opportunity to make a lot of money in a short period of time (overseas?) and rather than provide the proper responsible and safe child care for Shanayia he chose to send her to an unsafe, unsupervised dirty dangerous place instead. = greed. Who was watching Cheyene, the young teenage half- sister we saw on tv and the 16 year old half-sister that we've not seen? Both under 18 and should have been his responsibility while off making money? Are they under state care now?
I would think, if the father was sending between 17% and 23% of his income to Antoinette for child support she would have made more money keeping the child there than pandering her and ultimately using her to pay off a drug debt to Mario. Something fishy there, but still, motive = greed.
I do agree with the former comment that playing the 911 call over and over is a waste of airtime and perhaps Nancy and her group could address some of the other questions we all have, especially how the police were able to determine so early on that Antoinette was involved in human trafficking and selling Shaniya to be a child sex slave. I hope that some of the questions get answers and justice is served for little Shaniya.

Les   November 23rd, 2009 11:08 am ET

Being sad and angry is not enough. We need to take action. If you want to do something write the Fayetteville,N.C DA's office and demand the death penalty for these savages. I doubt if the so called mother will get the death penalty but we should demand at least 60years in prison with no parole and death for McNeil. The DA's address is 117 Dick St. Suite 427 Fayetteville, NC 28301. I have already spoken to them and they suggested letters not emails. We can't let this little girl go out like this if we consider ourselves civilized. It is up to the adults to protect the babies and we failed Shaniya. Long term we need to look at changing the laws for pedaphiles as well as pimps. A pimp is a modern day slave owner and this should not be tolerated in our society. Get off your asses folks and do something or we deserve what we get.

Marie Riley   November 23rd, 2009 12:10 pm ET

Nancy, I am a deployed soldier in Afghanistan. I dont have access to t.v. but I have followed this story online. I am disgusted to know that someone could neglect and do this to their own child. I have a beautiful 3 year old being taken care of right now. I couldnt help but think of my daughter when this story broke. I love my daughter with all my heart. How could any mother pimp their child out, it truly discusses me. I dont even understand how the father let his precious daughter go with someone like that. It sickens me to know that there are men out there that get some kind of satisfaction from a 5 year old child. I am utterly disgusted at this whole story. I weep for that little girl daily. I pray that God has taken away her fear and the pain that she had felt. I hope he restores her faith and joy that every child should have at that age. Shaniyah is truly in a better place. I hope that her mother and the man that preyed on her get what's coming to them. I hope her father sees what a mistake that he has made. I hope Shaniyah is at peace and I pray that God looks out for other children just like her that may be going through this same situation. I dont know how anyone could get satisfaction from a 5 year old. It sickens me to think about what happened to her in that hotel and to see him carrying her makes me weep even more. I hope someone beats the living crap out of them and I hope they suffer. No child should ever go through this. It disturbs me to be away from my child and to see these type of things happen and you want to hug your own child but you cant. I ask Nancy, that you continue to keep me informed, I am deployed and this is the only way that I get the real honest truth from your website. Justice for Shaniyah, Nancy.

Kathy   November 23rd, 2009 12:52 pm ET

My heart and prayers go out to her this little precious girl.

Susan   November 23rd, 2009 12:55 pm ET

These child rapes/molestations/murders are a national disgrace. There is so much porn/deviant sex/graphic/kiddie porn/ sexual material out there, some people must think of sex as the "last frontier." Unfortunately, perverts and predators are out there looking at this trash, and when a young child is in the wrong place at the wrong time, the monsters are right there to get them. Castration would be fitting, as would the death penalty, as would just putting them all in a big holding place together and letting them *%^$$^$^ each other to death. But nobody would go for that. So, how about an automatic life without any chance of parole. They can't be rehabilitated anyway.

Rita Gray   November 23rd, 2009 12:55 pm ET

To the Davis Family,

My name is Rita Gray and I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan at 802 Carrier Creek, NE.
My heart is hurting so bad for little Shaniya. When I first heard she was missing from her home, I felt sad, depressed and sorry for her parents. Then I watched the news and learned that her mother and a friend took her for money. I couldn’t sleep for almost three nights thinking about her. I felt empty even though I didn’t know her. She was God’s Angel and I prayed and I said to God, “She is with you Lord and I know that you will take care of her. “ I felt so hurt because my granddaughter is 5 years old like Shanyia and when I sat down and cried after seeing her father break down on TV. I couldn’t stop crying and my five-year old started to cry and said “Don’t cry Granny, she is with God now.’ The words from her mouth were so sweet and I thought, this is a five year old, just like Shaniya and she knows how hard the world is and will never, ever forget her.
I want the family to know how deeply hurt I am, but I know that God was calling for his little Angel to come home. May God Bless her family and carry on Shaniya’s life. Think about the happy memories you have to hold close to your heart. May God bless all of you.
Sincerely,

Rita Gray

Rita Gray   November 23rd, 2009 1:05 pm ET

I would like to write a letter to the family but I cannot find the address on your website. Can you please print the letter that I posted and see to it that the family gets it? If not, can you please tell me where the Davis family's address is posted on your website. Thank you very much.

Granny For Justice   November 23rd, 2009 3:15 pm ET

I don't think we want to see the pictures of them leaving the hotel if that was where she was raped. Perhaps the pictures are too horrible.

Something keeps nagging at me though. It was reported that she left the hotel alive. Why would he bother to take her to a hotel? Please don't throw darts but this is very very strange.

A rapist taking a child to a hotel where screams could be heard. I am sorry, this is not adding up.

My gut feeling is that someone else was involved in this also.

Why the hotel????????? Please help me figure this out.

linda   November 23rd, 2009 4:22 pm ET

The father knew she shouldnt have this child according to the babies sister, nobody asked him why he would give her to her mother knowing she was a drub abuser and she shouldnt have gone there. i know the man is crushed, but why? why? why would he have done this?

glynis webb   November 23rd, 2009 7:35 pm ET

is shaniya's mother pregnant? if so, i hope that the judge and state does not hand this baby over to ms. davis's mother because she doesn't deserve any rights or communication in this child's life. this baby should be adopted out to a deserving family, and not have any ties with any of ms. davis's family.

kenyada jones   November 23rd, 2009 9:05 pm ET

I think that so called mother. Agian a so called mother. She gives good mothers like me a BAD name. Just because you are capable of having children doesn't mean EVERYONE should be a mother!! That baby DID NOT DESERVE to be done like that. I don't give a DAMN if she did owe him money, then her ugly soul should have given her trifling self to him & NOT THAT SWEET INNOCENT BEAUTIFUL little girl, HER OWN LITTLE GIRL.. HOW DOES THAT! i WILL BE SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GLAD WHEN THEY SEND HIS ASS TO JAIL SO HE CAN BE RAPED, STRANGLED.. HE IS SICK AND SO HIS THAT SO CALLED MOTHER. DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES SHOULD TAKE HER OTHER CHILDREN FROM HER NOW, WHO KNOWS WHAT SHE HAD OR WILL HAVE DONE TO THEM.. SHE IS A POOR EXCUSE FOR A MOTHER, AND HE IS A VERY SICK PERSON TO THINK IT IS OK FOR TO BUY CHILDREN. HE IS DISGUSTING AND HE NEED TO GET THE DEATH PENALTY IMMEDIATELY...I'm sorry if I seem mad.. I am VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MAD. This is senseless and it doesnt make any sense.. I would love to SMACK THE TASTE OUT OF HER MOUTH. AND AS FOR THAT SICK AS DUDE MAY HE ROT IN HELL....

tisha (mi)   November 23rd, 2009 11:38 pm ET

My heart is heavy and i feel sad for this precious beautiful little girl. I cant stop crying when think about it or see the footage of the news report. I have a 1 and 4 year old girls who looks just like Shaniya. This is so disturbing to me and im at a los of words and full of emotion. i dont understand the hate and evil in people who victimize children. I feel so hurt for the family, i cant imagine the dads grief. He should have never let that baby over there for that long with no supervision with a "mother" like that. You cant trust people today even family. I hope the demons who did this to Shaniya burn in HELL!!!

Leslie   November 24th, 2009 11:13 am ET

In response to Granny for justice. I think that psycho took Shaniya to the hotel because he thought he was going to get away with what he did, because Antionette Davis simply gave Shaniya too him. He is being held for Kidnapping because Shaniya's FATHER who had custodial rights over her did not give him permission to take his child, not because Antionette Davis didnt know Mario had the child. He probably took her 1/2 hour away only so other people wouldnt recognize him.

Susan   November 24th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

This tragedy has touched me and so many people as never before, probably there is an actual image of this man taking this little girl to her death. This case has been on Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, Nancy Grace and will be on more in the future. But until we give EVERY SINGLE child who is raped, molested, killed, tortured with cigarette burns this much publicity, enough people won't stand up to do anything about it. I think the publicity is justified, but if it only is publicized when the mother is involved, enough people won't do anything. Remember the saying, "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing." Sometimes it seems to me that it is "open season" on children. Unfortunately, unless the mother is involved, it is mentioned once or twice and is over and forgotten. I hope this case changes things. It is a disgrace on America.

Dee   November 24th, 2009 4:06 pm ET

No need to investigate the father. Apparently, the mother already had plans for Shaniya before she arrived. Then to call and give a false report to the police. The jailhouse should be bypassed and go straight to the electric chair. What sicko would be aroused by a five year old child. May all involved rot in hell.

Arlene   November 24th, 2009 9:05 pm ET

I HAVE A THEORY, I DONT THINK THIS PERV WAS AFTER A DRUG DEBT. I THINK HE SAW SHANIYA WITH HER MOTHER AND FORMULATED A PLAN ON HOW TO GET TO THIS LITTLE GIRL. I AM NOT SAYING DRUG DEALERS ARE SAINTS, BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A DRUG PUSHER RAPING A CHILD. THIS SICK PERV WAS A PEDOPHILE, AND HE SOMEHOW FORMULATED A WAY TO GET TO THIS CHILD. AND HER MOTHER, I HOPE THAT B***TCH ROTS IN A JAIL CELL, SHE DOESNT EVEN DESERVE TO BE CALLED A MOTHER. IN REGARD TO THIS SICKO I HOPE HE GETS THE JEFFREY DAHMER TREATMENT IN JAIL.

MY HEAR JUST BLEEDS FOR LITTLE SHANIYA, BABY IM SORRY YOU HAD SUCH A SHORT TIME WITH US AND YOU HAD TO FALL IN THE HANDS OF SUCH UNSPEAKABLE EVIL

mary   November 24th, 2009 9:29 pm ET

I have been watching Nancy Grace ever since the caylee anthony Story .I still have'nt gotten over that one and how that b-- of a mother was ever allowed out on bond. What is wrong with these mothers that they find that the lives of their children mean nothing to them.Everytime I watch nancy and see how emotonal she gets when it concerns a child i just sit and cry.Little Shaniya stays heavily on my heart as well as Caylee Anthony.None of these children deserved what happened to them,as well as the 9 year old girl who was murdered by a 15 yr.old.what did she do to deserve what happened to her.No child deserves to be abused, mistreated,or murdered.I would love to get a hold of casey anthony and antoinette Davis, tie them both to a tree and just beat the holy crap out of them until they felt the same pain their own children felt.Women who allow this kind of abuse to happen to their children or to take the life of their own onto their own hands are not humans. They lay down and have the fun of making these babies, but when it comes down to taking care of these children that God gave them, they throw them away.I would love to get the chance to spit on theses mothers and get right in their faces and tell them what I think about them.I have custody of my oldest grandson since he was three months old and he's six years old now.My daughter wanted to have a baby so bad but when motherhood took away her freedom to do what she wanted, she did'nt want the responsibility. She left her husband who was abusive to her because he was on drugs and alcohol for someone else who was just as bad.I keep a close watch on the grandson I have that now calls me "mom'.Whenever i hear these stories about these little children it rips my heart out. These women need to have their privates sown up so they can never ever have another child .

angel   November 24th, 2009 9:43 pm ET

i think she need to go to jail for murder to i have 5 kids and i can not get over what she did to that little girl it make me so sick when i see it on tv i want to cry ever time and them you see her daddy crying and make u cry more

Valorie Perez   November 25th, 2009 6:32 am ET

I can't stop thinking about our little angel. I will never forget her and always remember her in the eyes of other children. I will never look the other way and I will always interfere if I think that a child is in danger, that is my promise to Shaniya- my own precious little girl- she is now forever in my heart.

Nicole   November 25th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

I read on another site that Shaniya had been spanked by her aunt Carey for misbehaving and she dropped Shaniya off to Antoinettes for the weekend while her brother was away. When she was supposed to pick the little girl up on Sunday Antoinette told her "You'll never see Shaniya again". Since Carey didn't have legal custody of the child she said she didn't know what to do except wait until her brother returned from his trip, then they would have to take legal action. Why didn't any of the media outlets explain this. To me it sounds like she (Antoinette) already had ideas of what she was going to do with that child because spanking a child on the butt is nothing compared to the abuse that scum bag (Antoinette) inflicted on this child. It's obvious she didn't care about the child and she told Carey Lockhart she'd never see that child again. I hope Antoinette Davis get's death, I would even buy a plane ticket for the event.

LESPINOZA   November 25th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

I GRIEVE FOR THIS LITTLE ANGEL....BUT SHE IS IN HEAVEN IN THE HIGHEST PLACE WITH OUR ETERNAL FATHER THRU HIS SON JESUS CHRIST! NO EVIL WILL EVER HURT HER AGAIN!

I HAVE CREATED A MEMORIAL FOR HER I WILL REMEMBER HER SHE WILL NOT GO FORGOTTEN:

http://www.virtual-memorials.com/main.php?action=view&mem_id=18213&page_no=1

Nicole   November 25th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Sharon, Antoinette Davis would not and is not cooperating and the child came home with cigarette burns. Nuff Said. I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to figure out she was most likely involved. As horrific as it is. As far as Carey Lockhart going into the home, don't forget Brenda and Antoinette Davis had Mario and Clarenc Co (Convicted Felons in their home) one who shot a man in the face. I think Carey Lockhart should have gotten the police and DSS involved and said that her neice had come home with cigarette burns just to buy time, in the least perhaps they would have pulled the girl out of the home.

Terry   November 27th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

I finally read one news report that just barely asks why the father handed over his daughter to criminals. It's the question some of us have posted on the web. The "system" did not demand Lockhart send his daughter to her mother. Social services was not involved. HE decided that Shaniya be uprooted from her home, school, and all that was familiar to her. I wonder why he wanted her gone.

boop   November 28th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

I want to say that this world is wrong when we let the mother go after letting her child be touched in any wrong way , whether it is hitting them or hurting in the worst most painful way. It has went though my mind that her mother must have been preparing her for this terrible thing that has happened to her by the feseciss on the blanket and porch it started in the house, and she is more ressponsible of what has happened to the wonderful blessing from God. Her father is never going to recover and she should pay for his loss as well. May God be with his family during the hardest time at Christmas

Judy   November 29th, 2009 7:57 pm ET

PJ & Terry you are exactly right...Hand your child over and not even check to see what she would be living in, The landlord said it was a PIG STY. The father here is not a victim , he should be ashamed of himself! Why hasn't Nancy Grace pushed and asked questions about this, very shocked at Nancy.

Leslie   November 30th, 2009 11:28 am ET

In response to Terry. I dont think the father wanted his daughter gone. He is grieving immensely, and my prayers are with him. He had a 1 night stand w/ Shaniya's mother. Antoinette Davis raised Shaniya 1 yr before giving Shaniya to her father. They had no formal agreement, just an amicable word of month agreement, that the father would take care of Shaniya because he was more financially stable. So why would the father having been given Shaniya, someone so precious, by Antoinette Davis, tell Ms. Davis she could not visit with Shaniya whenever she asked, if he did not know of any abuse? The problem was Antoinette Davis tricked the father into thinking she was a caring mother, but she was just the opposite, abusive, hateful and jealous of her little daughter!

Shasta   December 1st, 2009 7:11 pm ET

Hi Kathleen If u look closley at the picture

Shasta   December 1st, 2009 7:17 pm ET

Sorry I didn't complete the first comment however I have noticed if you look at the pictures of them at the hotel one photo shows him waiting for the elevator they appear to be leaving considering he is waiting for the elevator to pick them up from the third floor Im not sure if anyone else noticed that

yolanda   December 23rd, 2009 11:45 pm ET

I hope you are right , Shasta, because then, she doesn't look distressed or traumatized here. (Still HORRFIC just the same).

I didn't want to, but I looked at the photo again and I can't make out the number 3 at the elevator. It looks like an arrow there.

I never thought this could be them leaving the hotel, though.
