Nancy Grace Cold Case

After boy's slaying, brother missing for 19 years

New York (CNN) – Basil Abdul'Faruq and his brother, Jamal, begged their mother to let them go outside to play. It was spring break, April 16, 1990, and the boys wanted to join other kids in their Richmond, Virginia, neighborhood.

Their mother, Tambar Ellis, was tired after working the night shift at the nearby DuPont factory. She didn't worry about Basil, 8, and Jamal, 7, playing outside. They walked to school on their own every day.

"Jamal was the one who asked could they go out," Ellis said. "I said, 'of course.' "

It was the last time she would see her children.

She said she took a short nap, about 30 minutes. Then she walked outside to call the boys in for dinner.

"I called them, and I didn't get a response," she said. She searched the grounds surrounding the 600-unit apartment complex and then a playground about a block away.

As the minutes passed, she started to panic.

"After about maybe four or five minutes of looking for your kids, you go through a wave of a different emotions," Ellis said. "You know they're not up in someone's house, because they knew I wouldn't have allowed it. ... I couldn't believe they weren't within hearing distance."

I think that the other brother's body was hidden somewhere. But, did anyone in the neighborhood see anything? A man taking the little boy? Finger prints on the deceased brother's body or garbage can? DNA evidence?

I feel for the family. My son has been missing since January 29th and there are no leads. It is as if he vanished. Angela Hackworth 32,was arrested earlier in the month for having sexual relations with my 16 year old son and he has since disappeared. No leads to show where he may be, police havent allowed media intervention. I have quit my jobs and and in danger of loosing everything, but without my son life has no meaning.

    Sally,
The kids were old enough to play outside by them selfs during the afternoon. Plus, it was in the early 90's. Kid Nappings weren't so common as they are now. So, the mother didn't think anything of it. I am sure the mother is blameing herself for this and all the greaving that goes along with loseing a child or in the case children.

My question is, Did the investigator's investigate the father of those two boy's? Any reports of any screams in and around the appartment building? I would think they would of screamed or yelled or something.
    Thanks
    Brandy

Nancy, Instead of sitting up all night with you, I decided to give my opinion on various cases of yours, including the death of Basil Faruq. The mother did it and the police need to go back and arrest her for murder. Reportedly, the boys had been with their aunt and when she brought them home, the mother then decided to take a half and hour nap(yeah, right!) She would have had plenty of time while they were with their aunt for napping. It was not mentioned that the baby had been with the aunt, just the two boys. Since a soiled diaper was found in the trash bag with the body of poor little Basil at the dump, who else could it be but the mother? ARREST HER. It would be doubtful, however, that she would know the whereabouts of the littlest one,Jamal, missing all these years If he knew his mom killed his brother, he probably took off. Now that he's grown, he may have made some contact with the aunt or other family member...Possibly showing his picture when small and the enhanced picture during the day, he might see himself and call. He may not watch television during the night. I feel he's alive. Maybe local stations in Richmond or throughout the state, maybe Wash. DC or even Atlanta stations could put his picture up at the end of the broadcast a couple times a wk...I don't know who offers rewards in situations like this but I think that would bring someone to talk. Possibly Victims Assistance might help with putting up a reward.
Nancy, it's making me utterly sick. You're a mom and I'm a mom. We love our children. What the hell is wrong with this picture? It seems like every other day a child is murdered. Beautiful children. The murderers don't give them any more consideration to live than they would stepping on a bug. If it wasn't for you, it would be a whole lot worse. You can't stop what has happened but you can make the parents protect their children better and also make the kids aware that there are people out there that will kill them. Thanks again for being you. I want to send you a gift. How do I? email me. thanks
