Kyron’s father files for divorce from boy’s stepmother; gets a restraining order against her

In a bombshell development, the father of missing 7 year old Kyron Horman files for divorce from his stepmother – the last person known to see the 2nd grader alive. The boy’s father, Kaine Horman, also got a restraining order against his wife, which bars her from seeing her children and restricts her access to firearms.

The surprise divorce papers were filed late yesterday afternoon, reportedly to the surprise of the stepmom Terri Horman, who told a newspaper just hours earlier that “everything’s fine” and it was just a rumor that her husband had moved out of the home with their 19-month old daughter. Kaine Horman now at a undisclosed location with his little girl, as the search continues for Kyron.

The case of missing 7 year old Kyron Horman continues to baffle police and the public, with still no suspects or persons of interest named. With investigators scouring through 2800 tips and going through hundreds of questionnaires, the mystery remains about what happened to the missing Portland boy. Some of the focus has been on Kyron’s stepmother, Terri Horman, and her whereabouts the day Kyron was last seen. While Terri Horman’s own father says his daughter has been cooperative with police, he did reportedly admit to People Magazine that he believes it’s “50-50” his daughter will be arrested. Larry Moulton claims Kyron’s stepmother has taken 2 polygraphs and has been questioned by investigators for hours on end, multiple times. Police will not comment on the specifics of the investigation, but say they haven’t ruled out anyone and are investigating all leads. We don’t know what let Kyron’s father to seek the restraining order against his wife, as a judge ordered those documents sealed out of fear its release could compromise the investigation into Kyron’s disappearance.

Police seek tips in teacher's 1992 slaying

New York (CNN) - As a child, Christy Ann Mirack played teacher while her brother and sister pretended to be her students.

As it turned out, Mirack was rehearsing for adulthood.

"Her dream in life from early on was to be a schoolteacher," recalled Vince Mirack, her brother. Soon after she reached her goal, "it was taken away from her," he said.

On December 21, 1992, Mirack did not show up to teach her first-grade class at Rohrerstown Elementary School in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Phone calls to her home went unanswered, and the school's principal, Harry Goodman, drove to the apartment Mirack shared with a female roommate who had already left for work.

The door was ajar, and inside Goodman discovered a gruesome and terrifying scene. Mirack, who was 25, had been strangled, beaten and raped, said Det. Joseph Edgell, who leads the murder investigation for the East Lampeter Township Police Department.

There was no sign of forced entry, and an object from inside the home was used in the beating, Edgell said.

He declined to describe the object because the investigation is ongoing and the killer may still be alive.

"There were a number of 'persons of interest' from the onset of this investigation," Edgell said.

Human Remains Identified as Missing California Newlywed; Cops Say Murder!

A few months ago we reported on the story of a young, beautiful California newlywed who vanished just before her father’s birthday party. And now the exhaustive four month search has come to a tragic end. Human remains washing up on the shore of the San Francisco Bay have been positively identified as 23-year-old Ryann Bunnell Crow.

Leaving no doubt, according to Salinas authorities, the newlywed was murdered.

Father’s Birthday Party Turns Tragic

On the afternoon of January 30, Ryann Bunnell Crow had been out shopping with her sister, Shelley Bunnell, in Prunedale, California. The two were making arrangements to celebrate their father’s birthday. A few hours later, Bunnell Crow drops her sister off at home and drives away to get ready for the party. Bunnell Crow is never seen alive again. And it would take another three days before she would be officially reported missing. Not only did Bunnell Crow miss her father’s birthday party, but she also missed two days of work at a local flower shop in Salinas, California, something police say is totally out of character. Bunnell Crow’s family also says it was out of character for her not to talk to her sister, Shelley, as the two talked everyday. Her family knew something wasn’t right, especially when they couldn’t get through to the 23-year-old newlywed on her cell phone. One week later, Crow’s 2002 white Chevrolet Malibu found abandoned in Foster City, right across the bay from where her remains would eventually be found on May 24.

Desperate for answers, Bunnell Crow’s family puts together organized searches for the missing 23-year-old. But while family and volunteers search high and low, there is no sign of the groom, 33-year-old Jesse Crow. At first Salinas police said Crow cooperated during the initial stages of the investigation. But the missing Prunedale woman’s family reportedly says he did not lift a finger to help find his missing new wife. According to a search warrant, the night cops took the missing person report on Ryann Bunnell Crow, Jesse Crow revealed his missing wife came to see him for 45 minutes the day she vanished. Crow says there was no incident and Bunnell Crow left in her car. 33-year-old Jesse Crow also insisted cops stay out of the bedrooms while searching his home. Inside, police didn’t find Ryann Bunnell Crow but another surprise was waiting for them… a large indoor marijuana operation. Then, on February 16 everything changed. After that welfare check by police at Crow’s home and subsequent searches at other properties, including the home of Jesse Crow’s parents, investigators swoop in arresting 33-year-old Jesse Crow in Pacific Grove, California on suspicion of murder. When Bunnell Crow’s family sees TV coverage of Crow’s arrest, that’s when reality sets in…they knew their beloved Ryann was not coming back.

Rpt: Cops say DNA found under Stephany Flores' fingernails

Police reportedly confirm skin was found under the fingernails of 21- year-old murder victim Stephany Flores.

Victoria Macchi, who has been working with the Nancy Grace show from Lima, Peru on the Joran Van Der Sloot story, met with Miguel Canlla Ore, head of homicide with the Peruvian National Police, yesterday. The meeting may have confirmed foreshadowing statements made by Flores’s father during the early days of the investigation while Van der Sloot was still on the run in Chile, “We will have samples of this man’s [Van der Sloot] skin underneath the nails of my daughter. So, once he is captured, we will be able to show that he is the killer, and he won’t be able to walk away like he did in Aruba,” said Ricardo Flores through a translator.

Lab DNA tests have yet to confirm that the small amount of skin found belongs to Joran Van der Sloot. He has been charged with the murder of Stephany Flores.

In his own words, 22-year-old Van der Sloot allegedly confessed to strangling Flores and stealing from her. He has since retracted his statement, saying police intimidated him into incriminating himself, and did not provide him with a proper translator or counsel.

Flores’s body was found on June 2 in a hotel room rented by Joran Van der Sloot. The two met while participating in a gambling tournament in Lima.

He is currently being held in Miguel Castro Castro Prison away from general population.

Joran van der Sloot is still the lead suspect in the disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba. While incarcerated in Peru, investigators say Joran van der Sloot has tried to use information in the Holloway case as bargaining tool.

Murder suspect Joran van der Sloot alleges police misconduct

Claims He’s an Eligible “Bachelor” Behind Bars

Alleged two-time murderer Joran van der Sloot still sits in isolation in a Peruvian prison, deliberately choosing when to keep or not keep his mouth shut. After refusing to talk to a judge about Stephany Tatiana Flores’ murder case, van der Sloot just doesn’t know when to quit when talking to the media.

De Telegraaf publishes an eye- opening interview with van der Sloot behind jailhouse walls. As van der Sloot waits to find out whether he will be kept behind bars and a judge weighs the legality of his imprisonment, van der Sloot brags he’s busy sifting through marriage proposals from so-called female fans, one of whom even wants van der Sloot to get her pregnant, according to the report.

Joran van der Sloot and his history of lies

Joran Van der Sloot is up to his old tricks again…not that he ever stopped. For 5 long years he has told his tall tales, allegedly lying to Aruban police in 2005 when arrested and interrogated in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway during her high school trip in Aruba. Police back then couldn’t pin down Van der Sloot, who told multiple conflicting stories.

Joran van der Sloot

Then when he was finally released from custody and charges were dropped, the Dutch playboy then merrily went along his way to university in Holland, hoping to shake the bad taste of an investigation that would haunt him for the next 5 years. Rather than succeeding in school, straightening out his life and being grateful for narrowly missing a conviction for murder, Van der Sloot continued his old habits – partying, drinking, smoking marijuana, gambling, dropping out of school – until he was caught by surprise in an undercover taped interview telling yet another version of what happened the night Natalee Holloway vanished.

This time he confesses to friend that she died in front of him on the beach after a series of inexplicable convulsions, and then he and an accomplice disposed of her body in the ocean. Surprise, just days later, when the tape became public, Van der Sloot retracts his confession. Nearly two years after the undercover video, Van der Sloot voluntarily submits to a polygraph test and taped interrogation, where he tells the tale of Holloway falling off a balcony of a friend’s house after a night of cocaine-driven partying. He claims she fell to her death by accident and he and a friend disposed of her body in a swamp.

Then there is the tragic and unexpected death of his father, a character long alleged to be Joran Van der Sloot’s “accomplice after the fact.” His sudden heart attack on a tennis court in Aruba devastated young Joran Van der Sloot, according to his mother Anita, who now after weeks of silence, speaks out to a Dutch newspaper. She describes a troubled son, who blamed himself for the death of his father and who was spiraling out of control. She also claims that her son’s mental health issues caused her to commit her son to a mental clinic, but that Joran ran off to Peru just two days before he was to be taken to the mental clinic.

Gymnast, 15, missing after ride with brother's friend

New York (CNN) – Kayla Berg was thrilled to return last August to Antigo, Wisconsin, where she looked forward to competing on the high school gymnastics team.

Her mother, Hope Sprenger, said she agreed to move Kayla, 15, and her older brother, Jimmy, back to the small town where they were raised. They had moved three months earlier to Texas, but Kayla and her brother were homesick.

"We were going to try and start a new life," Sprenger said, "but Kayla missed her friends. She was very upset that they didn't have gymnastics team at the high school in Texas."

The return home also meant Kayla and her brother would spend time with their father and grandparents, who lived five miles away.

"We left it pretty open," Sprenger said about the living arrangement that allowed Kayla and Jimmy to stay with either parent. "They could ride bikes, or we'd take them back and forth."

Sometimes Kayla walked, or ran, between her parent's homes to get in shape for gymnastics.

A few weeks were left of summer break, and Kayla was making it a point to catch up with friends. With her 16th birthday still a couple of weeks away and no driver's license, she accepted a ride to the Antigo McDonald's, where her best friend worked.

"She had called me that afternoon, on August 11, around 1 or 2 and said she was going to hang around at her dad's," Sprenger said. "She said, 'I love you,' and I said, 'Love you back.' “Mother and daughter agreed to talk later. They never did.

"All I know is something's wrong," Sprenger said, adding that she's 100 percent certain Kayla would never run away.

Sprenger and police have spent the past 10 months retracing Kayla's movements on the night of August 11.

One of her brother's friends picked Kayla up at her father's house at about 8:30 p.m. The two arrived at McDonald's half an hour later. Kayla ran inside, talked briefly with her friend, and then left. She had told her friend she planned to ride around in the car for a while.

Van der Sloot: I was coerced

Joran van der Sloot, accused of the May 30 murder of a 21-year-old Peruvian woman in his Lima hotel room, wants his confession thrown out.

Joran van der Sloot
Joran van der Sloot

He told a judge that his rights and due process were violated after his arrest, according to his lawyer, Maximo Altez.

Van der Sloot, in a Dutch newspaper story published Monday, says he was ‘tricked’ into confessing to the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, a student he met at a casino in his hotel.

“In my blind panic I signed everything, but never knew what was written on them,’’ he is quoted telling De Telegraaf in a jail interview. His mother, Anita van der Sloot, told the newspaper that her son was mentally disturbed and traveled to Peru to avoid entering a psychiatric hospital.

The killing took place exactly five years from the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba. Van der Sloot was arrested two times but was not charged in the case.

Altez says the judge should throw out the confession because his client was not properly represented during the interrogation. Peruvian police stand by the confession and interrogation.
