2nd-grade boy disappears walking down school hallway to class

Police are desperately searching for a missing 7 year old Portland, Oregon boy, last seen walking down the hallway at his school…just feet from his second grade classroom. Cops say Kyron Horman’s stepmother last saw him just before 9am after taking him to the school to show his science fair project. A photo taken by the stepmother that morning shows Kyron in front of his project, a diorama on red tree frogs.

Kyron Horman
Kyron Horman

After the science fair, the stepmother says she watched Kyron walk towards his classroom, which is reportedly 150 feet away…that was the last time anyone saw Kyron. Police did not become aware of the disappearance until almost 4pm, when Kyron’s stepmother called the school when Kyron did not get off the school bus at about 3:30pm. Kyron’s stepmother called the school, who then contacted authorities. School officials tell us Kyron was marked absent at the start of the school day, but they did not have a system to immediately notify the parents of an absence…a policy that has since been changed.

Initially Kyron Horman’s case was listed as “endangered missing” but is now being called a criminal investigation. Police have not said why the status of the case has changed, and refuse to give a detailed timeline about the day Kyron went missing, citing a pending investigation. Police have reportedly said they believe Kyron’s case is isolated and there is “no reason to believe that kids are in any danger.” Meanwhile, the search effort continues, with divers focusing on an island in the Portland area. Divers have been seen wading in waist-high water on Sauvie Island, while officials on the shore were providing directions to the divers. Since Thursday, searchers have been looking at that island, with men on horseback, on foot, and in helicopters. Police will not say what led them to this island, which is about 6 miles from the school where Kyron was last seen.

Investigators say they plan to interview the students, parents, and staff again as well as do secondary canvassing of the neighborhood and other specific areas. The massive volunteer search effort concluded Sunday, with over 1300 volunteers, 213 detectives, and 42 law enforcement agencies all searching for Kyron. Local law enforcement, search and rescue teams, and the FBI say they will remain on the case. Investigators have asked the public to come forward if they have any photos or videos created June 3 or June 4 of roads around the school. This includes surveillance video from nearby businesses and private homes, which cops hope may give them a lead that could help find this boy.

Authorities have offered a $25,000 reward in this case…if you have any information, please contact the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office at (503) 261-2847

I'm a faithful watcher of Nancy Grace for many years now. She was just discussing the 7yo boy whom is missing. This my seem like a simle "common sense" kind of question...Have they done a thorough search of his school? People are shoved in walls, furnace rooms, floors, ceiling tiles etc.

Even when the SAR units were deployed the search was only within the densely wooded area near the school. With a Science Fair in progress and an exterior sign announcing it, there might be increased foot traffic in the school and increased boxes needing janitorial attention and involving opened doors and temporary storage areas. An intense search of the building, then call it a criminal case and deploy the SAR units. A SAR Field Kitchen unit and two volunteer search masters agreed that the rugged terrain merited the "no amateur searchers" order, but many SAR members felt chances for encountering him while responsive were slim and it should be declared criminal promptly.

I was wondering what do we know about his stepmom? I can't help be think that maybe she had something to do with his disappearance. How did she really feel about the boy? What were the family dynamics? Something just doesen't seem right. I love your show, and I admire you tremendously. Would love to meet you someday. Thanks, Winnie

There have been reports that the stepmother told Kyron's teacher that he had an appointment on the day that he went missing.

What is happening to our children all the sudden? Where are they going to ? Who is taking them? Why are parents and step parents taking young lives? Why are kids killing parents? What has gone so wrong with our nations values and morals? Get your kids off those video games, take that music from them, turn that TV off and spend time with your children. I cant imagine even thinking of never seeing one of my kids again, let alone wondering what it is like not sleeping, thinking they are out there alive and wanting to come home :( If Kyron is alive, and someone has him, please let us have him back. Im not his mother or father, and no one in his family knows me, But i want to see him back home again. I think I would even offer my own life in trade for his at this point.

I have followed the story of this beautiful little boy since the story broke 12 days ago and it has literally made me cry. I pray that this child is found, but as the days go by it gets more upsetting. I don't want the Oregon police to give info out to the public if it would in any way put the investigation at risk, but how can they not release more than they have? There have been no theories, timelines, suspects. How does a 7 year old just disappear? Someone had to have seen something.

I have been following this story sence I saw it. It is so sad. You would think someone would have seen where he went I mean it is a school. Do they not have survalence? There's a lot to Lerner from this that will help it from happening again. I pray he comes home safe!

Dear Nancy: Love your show, and I admire you so much from one Mother to another..

Per Kyron missing from school... Have they checked all over the school?
Have they checked every closet, room, janitor closet, AC/Electric room, etc?
If he vanised while at school, then isn't it possible that he is still there?

My other thought: If his Stepmother was the last person to see him, is it possible that she took him when she left the school? As a Mother, I hate to think that way, but seems like it has been happening too much.

I can't believe that in today's day, any school, esp. elementary would let anyone walk into the school without any ID check!!

As a member of Kyron's community I beg the person responsible to at least call in the information so he can be returned home. I'm relieved however that the media has picked this up and hopefully won't let it go until he is back home. This wasn't some stranger on a street-it happened in his own school. Every parent out there trusts their child once they pass through those school doors; Kyron is a reminder that our children are vulnerable anywhere, anytime.

This is why I beg Long County about alowing kids to carry a ceil phone so parents can keep tract of the kids wear abouts. THIS IS WHY. So many kids gets kid naped or rape. And I hope they find this boy I feel for the parents. God knows this is the fear I have for my kids everyday. You THINK the school would have camers to see him going down the hall or did the school care to watch the video. The school is responsable for the kids. Its show how much schools care.

Yes I am wondering if anyone else can place the stepmom and child at school that morning? She seems to be the only person that can place them there. She looks very off and strange to me. I do think this is a family member involved not an abduction.

It's hard to ask this but have the police verified from witnesses or surveillance that the stepmom did in fact leave him to walk down the aisle to his class or did they see him at the event before school started?I'm sure some might not like this question but the way this world is now a days you have to look at the people closest to rule them out. They need to have the stepmom take a polygraph test to rule out foul play on her end.It would be truely sad to find out that all this time and heartfelt work was focused in the wrong direction. My prayers go out to this precious boy that somehow he come home safe.

I know this sounds horrible, but my thoughts keep returning to the stepmother. She was the last one to see him, she immediately posted new photos of him on Facebook right away on the day he disappeared..almost sounds a little staged to me. Also, she posted on her Facebook page things such as.. hittin' the gym today! My question is, who wants to do things like that when their child has been abducted? I know she was told to show the public that they are continuing 'business as usual' but she has been portrayed as someone who deeply loves him as her own..
I'm not making accusations, I know the family is hurting deeply..just my thoughts I wanted to share.

How come nobody else saw this little boy at the school other than his stepmother? Was is their usual routine for her drive him to school, but for him to take the bus home? When the police say they believe Kyron’s case is isolated and there is “no reason to believe that kids are in any danger,” the implication is that there is no child predator but rather this was personal – about Kyron alone – which tells me they suspect the parents. The police's refusal to publicize their justification in deeming this boy's disappearance now as a "criminal investigation" means they have evidence, but don't want the perps to know what they have on them. They are already building a case against a particular individual(s) they suspect. When I drop my 6 years old off at school, there are several faculty members out in front of the building including the principal, the maintance man and assistants – all greeting the kids and helping any child who seems unsure of where they need to go, etc. I find it hard to beleive that NOBODY else saw this boy in the school except for the stepmother? Nobody else saw him at his display? Something is definitely fishy!

What is the story on Kyron's biological mom, where is she? Were there any repairs going on at the school by workers not school employees, and have they had background checks? I'm a retired teacher and safety is number one; when someone enters the classroom, especially viewing science fair projects and taking photos (it is reported one was taken of Kyron with his red tree frog project) the teacher would notice. So why didn't Kyron's teacher wonder where he was when class started, since she must have seen him earlier having his photo taken by his stepmom? In an interview with Kyron's classmate the boy says he saw Kyron at school near their class and Kyron told him he was going to see something. Did this classmate see Kyron's stepmom then, or had she dropped him off and left, and where was Kyron going? Thanks

To me, when the police say that this is an isolated incident and that children do not need to fear – then that means they have a suspect and that suspect is usually a family member. It will be interesting to find out what really happened. I am saddened that another angel is missing and I hope for the best.

Nancy, I don't understand why if the little boy was not present and the teacher marked him absent, why didn't the teacher call the childs home or parents work to verify the wherabouts of their son. If that had been done instead of the parent finding out her step son wasn't on that bus, a search could have been done hours earlier.

There needs to be a law in place that a lie detector test be administered to all family members and/or the last people to see the missing person within the first hours of the reported disappearance.

I know lawyers will fight this but the lawyers are the ones that interfere and cause valuable time to be wasted. Goal one is to find the child as quickly as possible and the innocent will not fight taking the test.

Either the stepmom did it and the school thing makes great sense. Was the project at the school....she took him to school hoping people would see them together. After the bell rang and the halls cleared she snuck out with him. She probably told him he didnt have to go to school and he was all for that. As long as she sticks to her story and they dont find a body. What can you do. I think the wicked stepmother did it......

Where is the father in all of this? They keep referring to the stepmother but no mention of a biological mom, any siblings, or a father? Anyway such a tragedy. I hope they find him and that he is ok. The police haven't found even his backpack or a piece of clothing at the school proving he was there? Maybe they haven't said because of the investigation. A little too hinky if you ask me. I just can't believe that none of the teachers or office staff called to ask why he wasn't at school when he was just at the Science Fair?

Other people did see Kyron and his stepmother at the school. From http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/details_emerge_about_the_day_k.html.

"Terri often volunteers at the school, working closely with Kyron's teacher, Kristina Porter. Shelby said that Porter saw Kyron in her classroom with his stepmom before 8:45 a.m. and another instructor reported seeing him in another classroom at some point."

Thank you for taking on Kyron's case. I have been following it from the beginning. As a mom, this is every parent's greatest fear. Your kids are supposed to be safe at school. As for the facebook thing - sometimes I send photos from my phone to facebook in the morning and they don't show up on my facebook page till later that night.

After this many days missing, it is extremely unlikely that Kyron is still alive. I hope and pray that I am wrong but statistics show most children abducted in this manner are killed within the first few hours or days they are taken.

I too am curious how deeply the police have looked into the stepmother's alibi. Something just feels hinkey about the whole thing and she was the last person to see him alive.

He was at school it says, and people saw him,, he just never made it in his classroom, seems to me the whole case is strange. There are no cameras, and the school was open, supposedly a exit door is down a hall next to a bathroom, so you think pedophile, but then someone have to know that school be open early for the science fair, so either some pedophile walked in and grabbed him, or someone who was there another parent, worker who knew it be opened grabbed him, or the step mom did something, I doubt the kid run off, kids get excited at science fairs etc, he certainly looked happy in front of his project, wonder why the police, did not do anything like amber alert etc, seems to me, they suspect something, just do not want to share what it is.

I just DO NOT understand why they do not have at least a suspect by now, OR if they do why are they taking so long to nab him/her?? Come on!
I really do not want to believe police and FBI are grasping at straws at this point, because that is what they are leading everyone to believe. With the number of brilliant minds working on this case I do hope they ARE making head-way, and not just by "knowing where he's not."
I want to believe there realy IS more going on behind the scenes, but it sure is taking a LONG time to break this thing.
Kyron didn't just vannish into thin air, didn't get abducted by aliens.. let's get the truth out there already! We need to bring this boy home, who cares about making a case against someone, tell the public what you know and let us help get him home!

In comments following other articles on CNN some posters defended the stepmom saying other people had seen Kyron that morning, not sure where they got that info from though. He does have other family members as his father, stepmother & biological mom (& possibly siblings) appeared together to appeal to public. There's not a lot of detail out there but CNN articles I've read so far are all very disjointed from one another & don't give a full picture in themselves. I think they're doing the right thing in interviewing other students again. Someone must have seen something and a child may not realise what they saw happening... but time is everything.

If Kyron's Stepmom took pictures that morning at the science fair, it stands to reason that other parents took pictures too. All those pictures need to be collected and viewed for anything or anyone out of the ordinary, including location of Kyron and his Stepmon on these other parents photos during the science fair!

I keep reading slightly different reports of his appearance at the science fair and who saw him; where his belongings were all day and who saw him last. What I read was that his belongings/backpack were still in his classroom at the end of the day. Perhaps that's been recanted, but if it's true, how could the teacher not be concerned and puzzled about his whereabouts? It sounds like after the fair, the kids went to their class. Isn't that where the stepmother says he was walking to? So, if everyone in the school was questioned, did NO one report seeing a stranger/unknown adult in the their midst? Or see Kyron leaving, with a stranger or other parent, if he did leave? Reports make it sound congested because of the science fair but, just for that reason of so many more people being present, how could he exit the school and no one see him?
And what about older students, say in the 8th grade? They would be big enough to overpower a 7-year-old both physically and mentally.
Were there any staff employees that went missing that day? Or called in, or just left unexpectedly?

Nancy, thank you SO MUCH for finally covering this little boy's story. Your show reaches so many people and I pray that this will help bring him home safely. I agree with Mark Klaas that something fishy is going on here in that the investigators somehow KNOW that this is an isolated incident but yet they won't comment on hardly anything. I hope by holding back all this information, they're not hurting the search efforts. Thanks again, Nancy, please continue to follow this story and ask the Oregon investigators the tough questions you normally do to get to the bottom of this.

Nancy you are right on. This guy is just a cold blooded killer. He did not have to kill Stephanie to rob her. He is 6'3" all he had to do was tell her to hand over her winnings! He deserves to be in the prison in Peru and not in protective custody. That is the problem. His whole life he has been protected and has gotten away with God only knows what. Who knows since Natalie's death if he killed during 2006 through this current murder. I would almost bet my life he did. This was premediated murder.

a non-lock down school have been my concern for years. I went to school in a developing country (Thailand) and my school was a lock down, no one can come in during school hours with out having to be let in by the staffs. My son is now attending an Elementary School in Ohio. I took him out of the public school because my concern about his safety and the crowded in the school. His teacher pay no attention to him at all and I have to take off work every field trips because I fear that she will lost him or his classmates. He is now in a private, lock down school. We live pay check by pay check but his safety is first on our list. I have to say that many of our school in the U.S. should be consider a "Third World Country", loaded with kids, no security, food program....etc.. Those fund rasing from PTO. or PTA .etc.. should be first go to lock down doors and security camera for school. Kyron case have been my fears for years, and people say that I am over protected, I look at everything around my son and do risk assessments. I can't protect him all the time but I be damm if I don't try.

Regarding the little boy missing, Kyron Horman, I too suspect the stepmother. I am the mother of two grown girls. While they were young and had school projects, etc or anywhere I took them, I NEVER left them in a hallway. I always walked them into the room where they were supposed to be. Stepmom's story does not sit right with me. Hopefully investigators see this too and will tactfully investigate to get to bottom of this. That poor little boy. I am always so saddened when crimes are committed against defensless children. Thak you Nancy Grace for all that you do.

He's using the "Natalee Holloway" body location as a stall tactic. I'm afraid that her body has been tossed into the ocean for shark bait. You are right Nancy Grace..he's a Liar! Feed him to the sharks in prison. How fitting that would be for 'pretty boy' (ugh) van der sloot.

I'm just going to throw this out there. I hope that they are looking at local area gas station for their video, possibly within a few hours of Kyron being missing. If you are going to go into a school and take a kid out of there.... you prabably will stop and fill up your gas tank because you may not know if you will be running from the law. I would look closely at someone who may look like they are space out... etc... (got something on their mind), may be park at the last pump to avoid people..etc.
How about those cell phone company, do they have records of what cell phone numbers were in the area of school right after the time that Kyron's step mom left the school? Where are all these Technology?
I hope that we will find Kyron safe and soon!

My question since this story first broke. Why was no one (parents) notified by the school when the boy was reported absent. When my kids were in school and stayed home sick, if I did not call the school to report their absence, I received a call usually around 10:30 from the school, stating my child was absent and wanting a reason.

Why are parents not notified when a child is not at school?

I agree with all those who believe our nation is falling short of good morals. We need to start being more available to our children and try our hardest to protect them. With life being so busy we tend to put things off until "tomorrow" but that day is never promised.

I always find myself asking about the step mom I've read so many comments already about them questioning the step mom as well. And I too also wonder where the little boys biological mother is.

I hope and pray the little boy is found safe and sound and that no harm has come to him.

I have read plenty of stories of missing children & they are all sad but this story of Kyron just stands out for me since day 1 and I don't know why... I can not understand what could have happened to this little boy & I PRAY everyday that he is found alive. If the stepmother saw him walking in the hallway to his class did she say if the hallway was full of people or was Kyron the only one walking in the hall.. im assuming the sciencefair was over...But If anyone else was in the hallway at the time – what or who did they see ? narrow it down to who was in the school still between 8:45 & ??? So many questions .... and it is so hard for any of us to make sense of any of it because so much info is being withheld & im sure they have their reasons.
Was he wearing his back pack when he was walking to class ? have they checked the garbage dumps for his backpack ? if they havent found him in a 2 mile radius then expand it to 5 mile radius or 10.. IF he is dead then he HAS TO BE somewhere...BUT I can't help but to think that if they havent found his body yet.. maybe he is not dead... maybe some childless couple has him... and I pray that thats the case because this little boy did not deserve this...no child does !!
I know a lot of fingers are pointing at the stepmom and at this point.. everyone should be a suspect... but from what I understand.. she raised Kyron since birth... so I can't imagine her being a wicked stepmother... she loved him !! but again, at this point.. everyone is a suspect !!
I sure wish they would release a little more info on what they do know as a fact because people all over, not just in Oregon are praying for Kyron and following his story ..and I for one will follow it to the very end.

I am so happy to hear that with this story, the investigators are unwilling to reveal details. This means they are doing their job and do not want the media creating a circus! It was an "open" school for a Science Fair that day. People saw step mom with Kyron. There have been reports that teachers and students saw Kyron. It was an open invitation for a pedophile to be lurking in that school that day with all the activity taking place. I won't blame the school at this point. It was a "fun" day and schools should be allowed to have them! My heart says the family is not involved. My heart says a child predator was at that school that day and found a chance to lure an innocent little boy away. I believe the investigators are doing a wonderful job of not letting information slip out that may hopefully find this little boy alive and at the very least find his abductor and take him/her off the streets! I love your show Nancy. I know how hard you try to help in cases like this. I truly hope others who watch will understand that the more silence from the police is best policy in the solving of this case.

i am just sick about this story. I too have cried. I have 3 children myself and am deeply troubled by Kyron's disappearance. Everything is being based on what his stepmom reports. I feel terrible for implying bad motives...but as we all know, parents have been known to do these things. I want to know if that picture they took is even at the science fair. How do we know it wasn't staged to look like it was. I just cannot believe that out of hundreds of people, literally, no one can vouch for him! I mean at that time of the school day people all around....kids are getting unpacked...going to the bathroom...getting drinks of water. I just don't understand. I pray that they find Kyron. My heart goes out to him and his family.

Obviously the step mother is involved. What school doesn't call in the morning when a child is absent, if the parent hasn't called in to have him excused? This is standard procedure so that a parent and the school knows the whereabouts of the child.

If it isn't the step mother, have the police or searchers checked inside he walls or ceiling of the school building itself? Or in the case of portables, could someone hide his body underneath the portable.

I was wondering if anybody at the school noticed that Kyron’s project was there and set up, but that Kyron was not with it??? I would find it near impossible to believe that SOMEBODY at that science fair didn’t notice! That fair set up at 8:30am.. and was on until 10:00am. The mother last saw the child at 8:45-9:00am. With the fair lasting an entire hour after Kyron was last seen, how on earth did nobody notice his project was there and set up, but he was not! Teachers, students.. nobody?!?! I can just picture teachers, family, kids walking through all of these projects and coming up on Kyron’s without him present. Don’t you think someone out of all of those people would have found it odd that he was nowhere to be found? And then apparantly the child was marked absent. Why would his project be there, all set up… and him not be there? What is wrong with this scenerio??? I feel terrible blaming the staff of this school but to me it is 100% their fault that all of this went unnoticed! I mean in reality somebody knows something… whether it is the police or someone at that school keeping it quiet… someone knows! I’m sorry, but if I was a teacher, assigning this project to my students, I would be the first one to go around and see how all of them did. If I came upon a student’s project, with that student not proudly in front of it, my first thought would not be “oh this child is absent” it would be “oh maybe he is off in the bathroom, or looking at another project” after maybe, MAYBE 5 min. at MAX, I would return to his project to MAKE SURE that child returned.. if he did not, there would immediatly be an announcement made over an intercom, followed by a call to that parent to make sure that child was left at school, and not dismissed by a family member!
The only way I can understand the school not noticing, is if in fact Kyron’s project was removed before his mother “last saw him”. If this is the case, I believe there was foul play on the mother’s part, and that the picture of him in front of the exhibit was her way of passing the blame on the school, and was premeditated. The picture was used as proof, so to speak, of her not being responsible.
This story breaks my heart! This is not that child’s fault, he is not old enough to be responsible for his life! School is supposed to be a place where you leave your child with whom you believe are responsible, caring adults, and expect nothing less of picking them up safe and sound at the end of their day! Now school has become a place of instances that involve kidnappings, bullies terrorizing peers to the point of suicide and teachers sleeping with students. I mean come on!! I’m terrified to raise my kids in this world, when is this all going to stop? When will all of these innocent children be safe? Do we have to shelter them our entire lives?? I can’t imagine a world where I have to tell my children they can’t go outside in our backyard without an adult, they can’t go to school, therefore need to be home-schooled, they aren’t allowed to have sleepovers, they can’t meet their friends at the mall, they can’t use the internet, etc… but in reality, that is the route this world is on, and it’s disturbing!

I noticed this little boys science project was on the red eyed tree frog.

As a mother of a six year old who loves frogs, I can tell you if we were doing a science project like this, my son would have his mind set on including a real frog.

This little boy was last seen outside his class room where his science project was and the school doors were open. Is it possible that the idea of running outside to look for a frog to use in his project could have came across his mind?I could see my son easily doing the same.

I understand there is a wooded area by the school. These frogs are commonly found in trees and burrows in Oregon.

I can't tell you how many times (eventhough he's not supposed to) my son has has explored and climbed trees only to run into trouble needing help out or down.

This may be a far fetched idea but maybe searchers should look close to the school, up in the trees, instead of looking down or searching water sources. I just know how my six year old thinks and this is something I could see him doing.

    Searchers.....PLEASE SEARCH THE TREES!

I am an educator and I live in Oregon. This is why I won't send my kids to public school. I will home school them. There are too many overworked employees and teachers who are bogged down by extra federal paperwork and red tape, they forget the number one focus and that is the kids and their safety. I substitute a lot and have seen a lot of different school environments. It is very scary how unsafe and unprepared they are to keep this kind of thing from happening. The schools and districts will say they have systems in place and safety procedures...but the truth is everyone is so busy doing whatever they do...they don't see the kids.

Where did stepmom go after she left him? Did anyone see her. The science fair could have been a good aliby. It is strange that the police wouldn't come right out and say she is most definitly innocent. Wouldn't it be more justice to come out and clear the stepmom, or is she still a suspect. The searchers have dive teams out on the slough, looking along the edges, and up and down the river. They have begun to question neighbors again. There have even been reports that the family truck has been removed from the home on a flatbed truck. Going to the repair shop? I say going to the police shop for analyzation.. They know something yet they are not sharing. I have watched this from the beginning, I live here in Kyrons home town. This is a town divided. We pray they find Kyron and bring him home. I began on the side of Terri and after watching and wondering I have become a doubter. I not only pray for his safe return but that something will be found so there is closure,
I do believe in my heart that his step mother is the answer to this mystery. I believe she is either guilty, or knows who is.

I'm a little appalled at all the people saying that the "wicked step mom" did it. I am a step mom to 2 beautiful girls. Not all step parents are wicked! I love those 2 girls like I do my own daughter. Seems like they need to do a little checking on how things are ran at the school. Like, they have him as being absent, but did either parent call him in absent? Also, if there was a science fair going on, they have no idea if someone was there that was just looking for a child to take. I'm hoping that they find this little boy alive!!

Upon hearing this story I immediately thought that the step-mom was involved with his disappearance. She was the last one to see him walk down the hall. Has anyone thought that maybe the step-mom walked out the front door with him. Since no one reported any struggles or screaming and yelling going on, as you would think would have occured if someone abducted him, then he must have left of his own free will. Who, other than the step-mom, could have gotten away with him so quietly????

Here's an important issue..whoever did this knew that the school has no cameras (ridiculous, but they don't). Anyone with an IQ over 65 knows that many schools have surveillance..but this person knows Skyline School doesn't.
The stepmother volunteered for that school, so she would know about no cameras. She had a child of her own recently. She acted weird immediately on Facebook. She acted weird at the press conference. My money is on her.

I honestly think the stepmom had something to do with it. She probably took the boy to school, took a picture of him so it would like he was present at school and walk down the halls as though she was taking him to class and slip out a backdoor with the child. it makes no sense especially if she walked him to class but they said he never came into the classroom. i hope police are really questioning her. I feel truly sorry for his teacher, she must be feeling horrible that she didn't call Kyron's home. I don't know why she would not have taken the time to call his home and find out why his backpack and lunch were left behind. I am not blaming....it is just such a shame. The report is that the stepmom left the school alone. The question is, what would be the stepmom's motive for murder? She raised him since he was a baby.

I would like to know why the stepmom didn't attend the talent show? In one of the first few news reports, the mother of the stepmom stated that she was very involved with Kyron and his school. So a stay at home mom/stepmom that is involved with the child's schooling etc., should have been at the school that same afternoon for the talen show. Why didn't the stepmom go? Why didn't 911 recieve calls from the family? If at 3:30 the child was not on the bus, 1st step call school, 2nd step dial 911. Reports of timeline from oregonlive.com state that it was 4:33 when the police showed up at the school and home. That is an hour that any parent would be having fits about being wasted.
I am sure Nancy will help pull all these questions out.

I wonder if Kyron ever missed school prior to this without a parent notifying the school that he would be out that day. If so, my thought is that the parent was testing the school's notification policy....or lack thereof. Just a thought. I know if my kid's miss and I forget to call....I get a call from the office by 10 AM.

I am not saying for sure it involves a family member, but something seems odd here.

I am still waiting for the Oregon police to release more info on this sweet little boy. Through following the case I have gathered that he was indeed at the school and the picture was taken at the school. It has been stated that the science projects were set up in the child's classroom. I would assume the teacher was there to see their students science projects. Kyron's step-mother last saw him walking towards his classroom, but his teacher reported him absent. Wouldn't his teacher have seen that his science project was there , but he wasn't? I really hope the police have a lot more than they are saying. It seems to me that there is an hour window to which Kyron went missing and this wasn't a normal school day. Someone saw something!

In regards to the photo taken of Kyron in front of his science project, that photo could of been taken at the house or the day before the actual science fair. I know that seems a little far fetched but this sounds like a cover up to me.

Also, why was there no other kids in the hallway of the school. The step mom was the last one to see him. I am sure that someone would of seen the boy leaving with someone else if that were the case.

Something is very fishy here! You do niot want to judge the situation but there is just no answer for this. Hopefully Kyron will be found alive and if not, may justice prevail.

Karen everything you said in your comment I totally agree is a possible scenario. Karen you may be on to something when you said the stepmon probably took Kyron to school hoping to be seen. And as you stated once the bell rang and the halls cleared she and Kyron left the school abruptly.
However, I feel that the stepmom first of all is lying by saying that she took Kyron to school. If she had taken him to school someone would have seen him. I truly think that the focus of the investigation should be on this lady. This woman may have been jealous of the relationship between Kyron and his dad. I'm really surprised that the real mother and father are keeping a low profile considering that their son is missing.

Sue, what talent show? The step-mom took a photo of Kyron in front of his science project at 8:45 a.m., and left him to get to his class himself, inside the school. No one has mentioned a talent show after school, as far as I know.

ANYONE could have walked into the building and blended in with the other adults there that morning, and walked out with Kyron and no one would notice.

  96. Barbi

Why was a 7-year-old allowed to walk freely through a school? Why didn't the teacher notice the step mom and Kyron when they stood in the classroom and had his picture taken in front of his project? If the teacher was so totally unaware of the step mom, is that why she marked him absent later? Otherwise, if his teacher did see them earlier, why wouldn't she have questioned his whereabouts when taking attendance? So much time went by before the school became aware.

As a teacher, any extra people or changes in my classroom are keenly obvious. Although a special event was taking place, I would think that the teacher should have been greeting parents as they entered her classroom. I'm not blaming the teacher, just wondering why a school would have such liberal practices in place in times like these.

One of my questions is: how did Kyron's project turn out at the fair? Did he win a prize? Did he perhaps NOT win a prize and run away, upset?

Another comment, speculation only: Perhaps someone in the visier of the investigators had cell phone pings from the aria of Sauvie island. There is this unknown factor hanging in the air: the idea that the investigators know something that they aren't revealing.

I hope so much that this little boy will be found, safe.

okay, everyone keeps saying that ANYONE could have walked in and walked out with the boy and no one would have noticed, but why would the boy just leave with someone he didnt know??? If indeed someone DID come in and leave with him common sense tells me if he didnt cause a scence about going with them then it must have been SOMEONE with whom he was familiar...like a neighbor, a family member, etc... which brings the question to my mind once again, has ANYONE heard anything from the biological nother in all this????? I hopefully can answer some of your questions. I live in Portland and have a co worker who works for Multnomah County Sheriffs office so here goes.
    1) Yes they have searched every nook and cranny of the school multiple time as well as a 2 mile radius around the school.
    2) The reports of him having an appointment that day are interesting since I don't recall that ever being reported up here and I have been following since day 1.
    3) The biological mother lives in Medford and has been up here since he went missing on the 4th. She drove up after she got the call he was missing.
    4) Police are looking at all avenues and not releasing much information because if this turns out bad which I fear it might they dont want to jepardize any case they may be building.
    5) The only ones who know specfics of the searched ( why) are the detectives and FBI the offiercers search were just told where to look they are not being given much information either.

Hopefully this helps answer some questions

They're probably tapping the family's phones, tracking incoming and outgoing calls, etc. and waiting for somebody to do something suspicious or incriminating.

Portland Public Schools should have had a policy for all schools, not just middle schools and high schools, regarding informing parents whose children are absent. Because the school didn't inform the parents that Kyron was absent, there were hours that were lost in the search, which were the most crucial hours in finding him safe.

Also, I don't understand why they don't have security cameras.
If the school had had security cameras at every exit and in the parking lot, a whole lot of questions could have been answered days ago.

I saw Clint Van Zandt, a well known FBI profiler, on the Today Show a few days ago, and he said that there have been cases where people have been found in the building where they disappeared. I hope searchers have gone through every inch of the school, inside and out.

Black children don't get a month of coverage on the Nancy Grace Show! I have waited now going on three weeks to hear that a Counselors or teacher or the Principal of the school made themselves available to children of the DEAD classmate or community! Aiyana Jones who was shot and killed by police executing a search warrant, according to officials. First she was burn by a police's flash bang" device, then shot in the neck DEAD! OH...while she was asleep! Anytime a white child is accidentally killed or even murder...Those children mainly in the victim classroom or school will have somebody to talk to! Special counselor would be assign to the DEAD child school or at the lease the DEAD child's classroom. But so far NOTHING! Just another N--er DEAD in the eyes Detroit police department and the American Government! They need to stop calling this a horrible accident is so OVER. Too many black children are accidentally murder by cops! Accidents are things that there is no preplan on doing the thing. Here the police did a calculate attack. Police should have known a child was present they should had known the proper location of the suspect! So, the police endangered the welfare of all the children there. However, according to Assistant Police Chief Ralph Godbee, preliminary information indicates that members of the Detroit Police Special Response Team approached the house and announced themselves as police. Godbee cited the officers involved and at least one independent witness. After finding out there is more then one tape the Chief has stop with that LIE!

"I can't believe that in today's day, any school, esp. elementary would let anyone walk into the school without any ID check!!"

@ Carolyn – The hard part, especially in today's day, is it just doesn't happen. With how big many of the schools are, hiring the additional personnel to roam around and ask for IDs can become problematic. Schools are already having financial problems to just keep the teachers and program on hand. Even if they did check IDs, unless the schools have a log or database to search, it's practically useless. If someone is dead set on getting in, they'll do it with a fake ID or without one at all and just hope someone lets them get by.

I think schools should make it so that every visitor has to check in to get a visitor's pass and turn in their pass when they leave.
At my daughter's Kindergarten through 8th grade school in California, anyone can just walk in off the street. Also, our school has a digital bulletin board at the front that tells of all the events going on at the school. So, I guess if a pedophile drove by and decided he/she wants to attend an event & take a child home, it wouldn't really be that hard to do!

How many schools know immediately who comes into the building and who leaves the building? I assure you not many just as not many have a plan in place to be prepared to stop an unwanted person from entering a school building in the first important few seconds when it is most important. They all count on the police which in many cases could be too late. Just because the sign says please sign in at the office that in its self is not a safety precaution. No child should ever be left in any hallway at any time unsupervised no matter how minnor the reason or how short the distance especially in a lower level grade school.

I live in Portland and have been following this case from day one.
I encourage all of you who are really interested in the case, to go to the state's leading paper on line: oregonlive.com
Kyron was at school; other people saw him there. According to a retired detective, he most likely was taken by someone he "knew". It is unlikely that it was a stranger, and unlikely he wandered off on his own and got lost. I am personally outraged that the school never reported him absent to his parents all day! It shouldn't matter that the school never had a "automated calling system" in place. The secretaries should have make the call to the parents.... especially if they saw the stepmom arriving at school with Kyron and then got the marked absent from the teacher.
The stepmom doesn't fit the profile of a suspect. She graduated from a Christian College and has a masters in education. She is a former teacher. PTA parents and teachers speak highly of her. However, I will say she did post some things on her facebook page that raised eyebrows. One comment was a day or so after Kyron went missing, saying she was hitting the gym. Another comment was that she was going to sleep good tonight because she had clean sheets on the bed. I'm a mother and I would not be able to go the gym or do anything for myself for a very long time and especially not be able to sleep at night for "years".... I would have a sleeping aid of some kind!
I pray for Kyron and can't stop thinking about him. I just have a hard time believing that no one saw anything or anyone suspicious.
Nancy, please keep Kyron's picture and case in the spot light.

Christy, thanks so much for the info. It did answer alot of my questions that I've been having, but there are so many more. Without getting you or your friend in trouble, is that saying something that they have not publicly cleared all of Kyron's parents both biological and step of any involvement? Just curious of your opinion since you live there and know someone close. Also, do you agree with everyone else who questions that its unlikely that no one saw anything? I mean he was at school and in these times children learn from an early age not to go with strangers. Though I agree anyone could have walked into the school that day, it would seem hard for a stranger to just walk out with Kyron, especially unwillingly. I just really hope that the lack of public info by the Oregon police is a good thing. I pray that they are close to finding him. I know its been a while now, but I thought of the Elisabeth Smart abduction and it was a miracle that they found her after so long. Miracles do happen though and I hope and pray every night that this is one of them. PLEASE Nancy, I love your show and I hope you continue to cover this story to get answers and hopefully help bring Kyron home where he belongs.

I know this sounds kind of nuts but ever since the news announced that a 7 year old boy dissappeared from an Oregon school science fair I've had a strange feeling that he is somewhere inside the school building. Is that possible? Have they checked every nook, cranny, closet, utility room, etc. in the building?

I sincerely hope and pray little Kyron is found alive. Since there was a Science Fair on that morning, there would have been many parents and outsiders in the school. Parents would naturally take their little children right up to their classrooms and see them inside safely. This step-mom's actions were very irresponsible. Police should give her a lie-detector test. I cannot imagine Kyron not meeting up with his friends or teachers in class.

The "stepmother" is covering up something. She knows alot more than what she is letting on. Where is this child's father or biological mother? How come the family is not in the media? Regardless, IT would be known near and far I was searching and would not let it rest until I found my child. The mere thought of it makes me so upset. I hope this little boy comes home safe and as for "stepmother", honesty will set you free.

Thanks Nancy for giving an update on Kyron. Someone has to know something. The thing that has bothered me from the beginning is that Kyrons teacher saw him that day (I read that somewhere) and that he was later marked absent during roll call. Did she NOT realize that he was not there? Incredible! What a school system – not even a call home? There are so many measures that should've been taken to protect this boy that day. So sad...

I really do not think it was the stepmother.. I could be wrong but the term "wicked stepmother" is not fair. It seems alot of people who are commenting have not been following the story at all. He was at his project his step mom drove him to school because there was a science fair, after the fair ended she let her step child walk down the hall to his classroom ( you presume your children are safe at school right??????) and then she left. The school did not notify her of his abscence and she contacted the school and authorities immediately. I do not feel she did anything wrong. Seems there is a step mom predjudice on this page. Did anyone think maybe the REAL mom saw the opportunity to take her child back during this science fair.. no one would say anything if they saw the real mother leave with her child. Also I would think any major event such as a science fair at the school would be open to the public? This would be a good opportunity for pedophiles to come to see a large group of children (you know they dont do an id and background check at the door) Everyone needs to quit focusing on the stepmother.. I could be totally wrong and she could have done it but I think she would pick a less public venue. I'm thinking the real mother has something to do with it more than the step mother..

Nancy has answered a lot of these questions on her show. YES, there are photos of Kyron at school with his project. So we DO know that he was at school that morning. If there weren't any survellance cameras at the school, how about another location near the school? Is a bank, gas station, etc. nearby that has cameras that could catch footage of step-moms car? Can they tell if the child is back in the car? If step-mom is responsible, the only thing I can think of is she had him get back in the car AFTER dropping off his project. If my child were missing, I would definitely cooperate with police but handle things the way I would naturally...UPSET! I know I wouldn't feel like going to the gym. I'd want to stay at home near a phone. Doing day to day activities would NOT take my mind off my child! I'd be in panic mode doing everything I could to help find my child. If the police advised me not to give a statement, screw them, I WOULD be all over it and do whatever it took to being my child home.

They really need to interview everyone because how does a child disappear AT SCHOOL?! This isn't China where parents fear for the lives of their children when people can just show up to kill or do harm to the children, this is America and school should be the one place parent's shouldn't have to worry about when it comes to their children's well being. This is really sad, I pray they find this boy alive and well...I pray for his family. God Bless you.

Where are the lie detector tests on the stepmom? Why wouldn't they all do a lie detector test right away. Why are the police so closed lip about this case, why doesn't the search allow anyone to search, train them quickly and let them search. This is the second story I have seen where the police have mishandled a case, we remember Luke Tredway who disappeared back in the 80's. They did a lousy job of trying to find him also.

I didn't see the photo shoot of him at school, but couldn't his picture have been taken in front of the science fair exhibit ealier and at a different location, before the exhibit was brought to school? Also usually they set these things up the day before couldn't the picture also have been from then?

Also what are the reports about him wearing a CSI shirt? I hope he doens't actually watch CSI–I don't think it is a good show for a 7 year old to be watching.

I didn't want to suspect the stepmom but it is being reported that there were cell phone pings from her phone at Sauvie Island. That is where they have been searching the last couple of days for little Kyron. She said on Facebook that she was going to the gym.

My daughters school does not contact us when she is absent from school either. It never worried me until now .I am now very concerned that schools are not doing enough to keep our kids safe. She just turned six and everyday after school they sit out front with two members of the staff .With all of the commotion there are times when I walk up and no one even sees that she has walked away with me.I will wait to see if someone is going to look and 10 percent of the time they don't.Seeing as how they have our children the majority of the day It is quite scary .Tragedy among children is becoming more and more common these days and its frighting .My husband and I know what its like to lose a child and my heart goes out to this little boy and his family.I pray someone finds him.

There are pictures of him at the science fair so he was at school and other kids had to see him. They also said that 2 people saw him at 9am...15 minutes after the step mother left, but they won't say who. This is an investigation so we won't always know everything that the police know or why they are doing the things that they are. It always seems like it is a family member or someone close that usually harms the child, but maybe it wasn't. That school was open season for a sex offender, nobody had to sign in and nobody was checked. We don't know what happened and if the police are telling these parents to "keep to their routine" because it will help the case, of course, that is what they are going to do even if it looks bad. Nobody has any clue what is going on behind closed doors or what the police and family may know. We only hear the medias side of it. I have read articles about the step mothers body language and everything that she does is getting ripped apart and analyzed. I am a step mom and I sure wouldn't want someone thinking that I hurt my step son just because I was the last one to see him, especially if I had been raising him since basically birth. His real mothers lives like 3 hours away and she was at work so it couldn't have been her. Why don't we all sit back and let the police find who did it and use all this energy to try and help. I made Kyrons picture my profile picture on Facebook. I live in Indiana, but you never know. If he was kidnapped, maybe someone took him across state lines. I pray that he is found safe and sound.

Since Kyron went missing I have thought there was something wrong with the whoe story. Having children in elementary school myself, I would never leave a child that age to go to his room by himself, especially since it was a "science fair" day and may people were there that day. It is especially on a day like that I would walk my child directly into the classroom. From what I understand the stepmom states she left him in the hall to go to his regular class. I am not buying that at all. Also, has anyone checked to see if they have life insurance on him. I believe they were planning this for a while and just waiting for the right time, and they found it with the "science fair" with so many people coming and going.

Nancy, this story should get a lot more coverage than the murderer Van der Sloot's jail cell and his daily food in the Peruvian jail. This could be put on the back burner now, as we know the Peruvian justice system will make sure he gets what he deserves – 35 years or more in their jail.

Please give more news and information, including photos of Kyron Hormon and his step mom, so it may jog the memory of someone who may have seen them together that fateful morning of June 4th.
I cannot even imagine what this little innocent child may have already gone through. Hope and pray he will be found alive and returned safely to his biological mom and her husband, who seem to have a lot more love for him.

I'm just saying.........that a picture of the child and the step-mother could have been an ingenious idea on the part of the step-mother IF foul play on her part is involved. Think about it........who else could/would it be? He would have protested loudly if anyone else tried to take him out of the school. I'm thinking there is a very good reason that nothing was seen. The boy went willingly because the child knew his kidnapper. She could possibly have been tired of paying child support for a child that isn't hers, if money was tight for the couple.

I hate the thoughts that go through my head when these things happen. So much we do not know, as with any investigation. I am also feel we are seeing a new trend, if you will, with this missing child case. "Keep the family out of the spotlight from the get go". If a member is under suspension, it is what they are not saying rather than what they do say to media. I hope it is not true, but my eye immediately caught something June 11 when the family made their first statements to the media. As I watched the Step Mother's Body language, I noticed a look up to Kyron's mom, whom she had her arms around, towards the end of the step-dad's address. I hope all it was, was a look to see how she was doing. I have watch the video several times now, and noticed other things in her body language as well. Now her cell made a call from the Island and a time discrepancy. I pray for you often dear child.

Did you all check out the press conference at 2pm. The Sherriff is now handing out flyers asking about the Stepmother and their vehicle. The Sheriff could have disspelled any rumors she is a suspect and did not.

Again at this press conference no family around...but notes "we wish we could be there"...well where the H are you then? Something is freaky wrong with this case. FBI involved, divers in the water doing searches, flyers being handed out two weeks after he goes missing asking about the stepmother, the truck being towed from the residence in the last couple of days, the family always hiding behind a written statement that is read by the police..and did you notice on the flyers how horrible the pics are of Terri Horman? If the family is cooperating with police you would think they would get a front on shot of her for the flyer....with better resolution.

    Something is freaky wrong here...

Do they really know if he was at the school that day because it was the step mom who said she droped him off. And even thou there is a picture of him at school with in project that doen't mean he was there the day he was reported missing. Look at the picture that was taken is there a date and time on it. Our culture slowly decreases the expectations and responsibilities of raising and care for our children. Our justice system DOES NOT protect children, including infants of abuse. If anything, our current system is more concerned about the rights of the sex offender rather than his OR HER, victims. We need to go back to the days of no police, no attorney and no courtroom. If you sexually abuse either of my children, you better be the one to call the police because i will not, nor my husband. My family will get justice when and how we decided. If you have destroyed a childs life once, you will not be given that chance to do it again in a long drawn out trial. Mom and Dad will seek and deliver justice for their child. It is a parents responsibility. No other.

First of all, why was this case not called a criminal investigation until too many days later? Secondly, my thoughts are (like Becky – 6/15), I wonder has the school property, inside and out (lockers, closets, etc.) been thoroughly searched, and school staff, possibly the janitors, been thoroughly questioned or investigated? I have not heard anything about that. Someone working in the school on a busy day when they were showing science projects and it was more public could have easily taken the poor child. This is so sad. I have a 9 year old grandson and other grandchildren. I pray every day for their safety and pray this little boy is returned to his family and we have another miracle story.

AGAIN,so much we do not know. But the FBI and local police know. It is hard enough to work a case, but now we have so many ways to communicate and get information, without bogus or speculated information coming in at the speed of, well ... high speed internet on computers and phones. It has been a helpful tool, but not without its downside. I pray for Kyron's parents and other family and friends. Also for us as a community of people in this world that has become smaller and small. Keep our eyes on our children, take the chance to become a 'fool' if you see something that doesn't set right. After reading the statement from the family and seeing pictures of them, I'm afraid I agree with those who suspect the step-mother and to think she could have pre-meditated this by taking this child to school with his project to establish a motive is beyond shocking and deserving of the dp if indeed she is guilty imo!

She was peering around rather suspiciously in the clip of a news conference I saw and it was similar to the way Patsy Ramsey was reported to have done after Jon Benet went missing. (This was detailed in one of the books I read about that case).

I thought immediately of Caylee Anthony with the talk of this being the FIRST FATHER'S DAY Kyron would not be with them!!! Caylee disappeared the night of Father's Day.

HOW DOES THE FAMILY KNOW that Kyron won't be around this Sunday unless they know he is not alive and who murdered him? He could be found AT ANYTIME were he alive and that is what you'd think they would be praying for every second of every day in addition to pleading with the public for any information and to a kidnapper to return him or drop him off somewhere safely!

In addition to passing the law suggested by the poster, Bill above, I think all schools should have security cameras in place if they don't already.

  153. Lie Detectors For All

Sorry, this upsets me so I realized I made two errors in my previous post and forgot to ask a question.

Someone suggested the stepmother went to school with him and the project to establish an ALIBI (rather than motive).

Also, Patsy Ramsey was peering suspiciously at people in her house after Jon Benet's body was found in the house. LE made a number of errors by not securing the house properly and allowing the father to search for and find her body. Then, numerous people were allowed in the house and Patsy sat on the couch, being comforted, but was reported to cover her eyes with her hands while crying but would seperate her fingers so she could look out and observe what everyone was doing!

I was wondering if Kyron had any special needs or problems. Was he in a special class and how was his behavior?

My comment is about the missing 7 yr. old little boy. I was wondering who took that picture of him at the school in front of his project? Because if it was his step mother, I feel like saying how lucky is she to have proof that he was at the school that morning, (and of course i am being sarcastic.) and of course if it was some one else i did not intend to offend the family.

Joran is a narcissistic cruel sociopath. He loved every minute that Natalie's mother suffered not knowing where she was dumped like a piece of trash. As hard as it must be for her, I wouldn't bargain with him to have him moved to Aruba if he reveals her whereabouts. Her body is gone but she lives on in the hearts of so many and with the angels and saints, Let Joran stay where he is. He is a dead man walking, in hell now and forever. God Bless her mother and family and Stephany's loved ones too. I pray for the peace and comfort of Jesus for these families today and always.

I have read all the comments and have been following the story closely. I know everyone suspects the step-mom but think about this..if she was going to hurt this boy she has had 9 or so years to have an opportunity to do so, do you really think she would risk being seen taking the boy out of school if she new he would be missing later? How would she know that not too many people would notice. Pedophiles come in any form...they don't look scary, they LOOK normal. Someone could blend in pretty easily as a relative or even another family member of a classmate. I'm not saying it's not her but she would have to be pretty confident to think she could get away with it, which would mean she's done it before or has planned it for a long time. I pray he is found and if he has already past away, we can know he is now in the arms of Jesus where he can't be hurt again!!

REGARDING THE 7 YEAR OLD KYRON. DID HIS STEP MOM AND STEP FATHER TAKE A POLYGRAPH TEST. SOUNDS LIKE TO ME SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THE STEP MOM. WHEN YOUR IN SCHOOL WITH SO MANY PEOPLE AND KIDS HOW COULD A CHILD JUST VANISH. I DID NOT THINK A CHILD COULD BE TAKEN FROM SCHOOL. SOUNDS VERY STRANGE TO ME.

When I was in the second grade, we were on a school field trip in New York, and for some reason I left my group and tried to go outside by myself. I would've made it out if the doors hadn't been locked. An adult was passing by...saw me...then returned me to my class. My life at home was great, I really don't know why I did that. I wonder what would've happened to me if I was able to get outside. I pray that he is ok!

I have been carefully observing the step mother, and can truthfully tell you that she displays no grief for this missing little Kyron. Just look at the bio mom in stark contrast who weeps non-stop with no regard to her make-up or looks.
I am quite sure the police are right behind step-mom, but they have to gather all the evidence they could before charging her with murder.
It is a very, very sad outcome to this "abduction." I was praying for the little child to be found safe and sound. But that is not possible.
I am so angry that this little innocent boy's life has been snuffed out just like a candle by someone who should have protected him. My God, how could you?? She was obviously jealous of the love the bio dad had for him. How cruel can human beings be!
I really don't know what role the bio father has had in this, but there again, I see more love and emotion in the step father than in the bio father.

I'm sorry, but it seems as though the stepmom was involved. What a perfect crime. How often does a parent watch the child walk down a hall and not walk with him? How possible is it that womeone swept him away in a second? I wonder how the relationship with the father and this stepchild was...was the child causing any issues? I hope the police have considered this angle.

Alright so this 7 year old kid is with his mom. He heads to class 150 feet away and disappears? Now the police are searching an Island 6 miles out? So either A. This kid is some where, hopefully alive, 6 miles off the coast or in the surrounding area. Or B. This kid fell through off the edge of the world. Also how would a 7 year old walk 6 miles to the coast and not be noticed. Which brings up C. He was Kidnapped or his Mom did something to him and hes somewhere in the woods

in today's day and age, and the rules at school and protecting the children, after poor adam walsh and all that...........i hold that teacher
    and the school responsible

I think the stopmother did it!!

I told my coworker it was the stepmom from the very beginning. I'm wondering if the science fair was in the child's classroom, then when did she see him walking down the hall TO his classroom? Wasn't he already there? The only way he left that classroom is with her, otherwise I'm sure the teacher wouldn't have let him walk out by himself or with just anybody. Maybe the stepmom told the teacher Kyron wasn't feeling well, but wanted to come and turn in his project anyway. Who knows, but I'm more than sure that when this is resolved, she will be responsible in some way. Oh, another theory...I think her taking the picture was for her to give to whomever took Kyron so that the "abductor" would make sure they had the right child. This is such a sad situation. I pray for Kyron's family that this concludes soon and against all odds, he's okay.

I live near Portland and have heard that they have searched the Sauvie Island area, which is about 4 miles or so from the school. It has alot of farmland, ponds and is located on a river. I also heard (not sure from whom) that the reason they are putting a picture of the stepmom's truck on the flier is that her cell phone pinged off of a tower near Sauvie Island the day Kryon went missing and that someone reported seeing a truck like the one she was driving pulled over on the Island that day. The family history is a little complicated and unusual but since the police have told the public not to worry about someone out there stealing children, it's pretty clear they suspect someone in or close to the family.

I thought from the beginning that something was wrong with the Science Fair photo. Then it dawned on me that the photo looked off because all you see is the boy smiling. There is no sign of any other child anywhere. You see an empty seat behind the boy. Usually, with such photos, you see an arm, leg, hair, back of the head, SOMETHING, of the other children at the fair. It seems as though the stepmom kept the child behind to take the photo. Maybe for contrived evidence? Do they have video of her leaving the school alone?

I wish that he could be returned to his family, alive. But sadly there's always that sad possibility of no return or worse. One day, in some future time, there may always be a constant danger of getting kidnapped everywhere, and you might not even be able to help it. We all know that there may never be peace on an Earth where everyone is equal, but we all have to try and also keep it from getting worse. If you see something suspicious, that may not even turn out to be anything don't be afraid to ask/confront.

Nancy you are such a child advocate but put some more focus on this case. This boy still has a chance to be found and more publicity could help. The case with Natolee is terribly sad but we all know the odds of her being found alive are less then 1%. I read the open letter his biological mother wrote to him that was published, it's very very heart wrenching and so very true, it's exactly the kind of thing a mother would think and feel if her child were missing. I think even though school districts around the country are having major budget cuts now is so the time to have cameras in all schools so if god forbid a child turns up missing during school hours there is at least camera footage to turn to for a least some leads. It is very easy to walk around in most schools without being questioned I've been in and out of my childrens schools and have never been stopped, school security is not to expensive either, children have to be protected while at school so whatever needs to be done to ensure that no one can just mingle at a school function and walk out with a child of their choosing. I pray day and night that Kyron will be found alive and returned to his family. I hope that if indeed the stepmother had something to do with this that she will find the courage to step forward and end the suffering of this family and bring an end to their search. Once again I am stunned that there are so many evil creatures in this world that prey on innocent children, I will never understand how someone could be so cruel and heartless as to harm a child.

How bout instead of the public immediately placing blame on a person they have never met because of things that the media (which isn't always the most accurate) "reports" the bottom line is kyron is gone and for whatever reason the law enforcement agencies are keeping tight lipped. For all any of you know it was a total stranger that they are tracking but they want it to look like the focus is on a different person. For all we know kyrons step mom has a mental illness that causes her to react differently to trauma than most. I'm sorry I have been in the position where I had no idea where my son was (dv situation with biorights into play that kept it legal for it to happen ) I went through hell and back to get him back into my care and into stable living.. But ill tell you what I can't guarantee that the second week I'd be the same way. I might be doing everything I can just to alieviate the pain if there was any chance I'd have him again.. I may very well have said in week two... Gonna go play my guitar to show my sons abducter that I'm staying strong. Don't mean I'm any less depressed just means I'm doing everything I can to not go crazy and end my life so I might have a chance of finding my son. Nobody knows anything so instead of instant negativity and a witchhunt against his step mom why not just stay strictly focused on this childs health wellbeing safety and happiness. Deception sucks. Don't be decieved and don't put yourself in a position where you are decieved.....and I can tell by a lot of posts that some of you watch way too much crime tv. Can't understand-if stepmom was already with him attending the science displays, why did she not walk him all the way to his classroom and see that he was safely inside, especially, with so many different people attending the event in the school at this time. I always made sure my children were safely in their class or turned over to a teacher before I left if I happen to be inside the school with them. Also, was the photo taken as a cover-up just to show they attended the event?

I thought right from the start that this lil boys step-mother had/has something to do with his disappearance. Why though is it taking law enforcement officials so long to investigate her?? I find that the problem with law enforcement that alot of these cases could probably be solved if they moved a lil quicker with investigating. I know that if it was my child that went missing I would be on the phone or in person making sure that they were doing everything they could to find my child. Also I wouldn't be just sitting back and expecting law enforcement to find my child alone but I would be along with them looking for my child until I found him/her. I feel so sorry for this lil boys bio-mother she looked so heartbroken when I seen her on the news, my heart and prayers go out to her and her family. I pray for the safe arrival of Kyron back to his home.

Well, I read an article in an issue of Time today and it portrayed pictures of the little boy standing in front his science project minutes before he would've been counted absent... So whether people believe it or not he was inside the building... I think it's time to stop questioning the moral of those closest to him and just accept the fact that a majority of the school systems in the United States just aren't up to the cut when it comes to security... I understand it can be difficult monitoring more than one child at once... But I do believe it is very sad when homeless shelter soup kitchens' have surveillance cameras and security guards at the door to prevent the homeless from stealing leftover food; yet our public school systems somehow don't have the resources to get the same security for our children...

It's really a shame that there are still soo many unanswered questions about this little boy. If the coverage on Van Der Sloot would lay low until something of interest (other than his hole for a toilet) surfaces, of course we would all like to know the "Breaking News", not the same thing night after night. I know that Nancy Grace wont be reading this, but Nancy...PLEASE get back to some of these missing children and women stories you had going on before this Van Der Sloot story popped up. Obviously many of your viewers are still clueless about the full story of the little cutie pie and WHERE the heck he vanished to in mid air. PLEASE give your viewers something other than Van Der Sloot to concern ourselves with. Maybe this boy could have been at least sighted by now, or more pressure put on the step mother. This story absolutely needs more coverage!!!!!

Nancy, what I was wondering is this: Has anyone ever spoke to the teachers at the school about any bruises or problems with Kyron? Did the step-mom go with Kyron everyday to almost the door of his room? Where is his father, and what is he saying about the disapperance? So many questions and not enough answers.
Its so strange that she says that she is with him almost at his classroom, and then the pings from the cell phone shows her in another area. I would love to know if there were ever any suspicions of child abuse on Kyron and also were Protective Services or the Police department ever called to the home for either abuse on Kyron or domestic or anything that may lead a person to believe that his step-mom actually did have anything to do with his disappearence. I just wish they would find him safe and alive.

My comment has to do with the pictures of Kyron. In some of the pictures he has front teeth and glasses. In the science fair picture, he is missing at least one front tooth and does not have glasses on. Could the science fair picture be from when he was younger and lost his front teeth like kids do around six years old, and it was somehow put in later. In other words did the child have his front teeth at the time of the science fair or was one or more missing?

Re: Kyron: Tonight on Nancy Grace, Mark Klass stated two scenarios of possibilities:
Questions: 1) When step-mom turn to leave and walk up the hallway, and a possible sex predator took the boy in that moment; "Wouldn't the step-mom have heard this?; 2) She must have still been within ear shot; 3) The hallways are a few feet to any classroom, for you just do not come into a school and right in front of your eyes, there are the classrooms; So if someone grabbed Kyron, she would have heard something; 4) Plus, don't parents turn around and wave at their children before they exit?

    Thank you.

Ok ... some of you are afraid to say it ... why? and ... why hasn't Nancy said it herself ... Mark Klaas just about did just now ... THE STEP MOM DID SOMETHING WITH THAT BOY!!! Just like Mark said, it's either the Step Mom ... """who was the last one to see Kyron """ ... or some stranger that no one else saw???? Come on people ... come on law enforcement ... The Step Mom killed that little boy and hid his body. Just start digging and you'll find out she only "acted" like a caring step mom ... as soon as she had the opportunity ... she got rid of him thinking she could do it without anyone pinning it on her!!!!!!!!!

That little boy most likely never got to that school in the first place. This "he was seen" thing just isn't getting. Many kids at a distance look very much alike. If he did in fact make it there, he is on the campus somewhere. I believe I would check every nook and cranny of that school and start back with the adults in his life. There is either a pervert hanging around that school, maybe even working at that school or the kid never got to go to that school function in the first place. I got with the later a bit more at this time.

Okay, so this might be a long shot, but where was the dad when all this happened? On a camping trip?? that sounds really suspect to me, did he have someone else with him to back up his story or what? I mean, did they have life insurance policy, maybe angry with the bio mom, would there be any reason he could have wanted to harm his own son and maybe the stepmom is just covering for him?? I have read several things about his brother being a convicted sex offender, you know sometimes when kids grow up in a home like that they end up doing the same thing to there children...hence, maybe him and his brother were sexually abused when they were younger... I know its a long shot, but why has no one said more about the Father and his alibi, I just think a camping trip, really, that doesnt sound all that right to me that his son goes missing while he is out on a "camping trip" can someone please clairify that is what he was doing??? does anyone know where he was????

Message to Nancy Grace & Marc Klaas,
My name is Jennifer from VA. I met you both at the Melanie Rieger Conference Against Violence in CT. My question/comment is if anyone knows if there is/was a sign outside of the school announcing that there was a Science Fair going on? The schools here in VA do that all of the time. They announce all of the children's events, skate nights, field days, all activities, dates, times, etc. for every single car that drives by to see. This just seems like an invitation for predators! I have written letters, but this must stop! This does not protect or benefit our kids in any way, shape, or form! What more can be done about this on a national level to get these schools to stop posting & announcing these events ahead of time? Thank you & God Bless You Always!

I also believe that the step mother knows exactly what happened. Read a story on the Internet today that some think she superimposed Kyron's picture onto a picture showing his science project. Some think she supposedly had this same picture of the science project posted on her facebook page WITHOUT Kyron in the picture. I assume she tried to make it look like he was at the school when it was taken (his left arm looks like it is missing from the picture). Maybe Kyron never made it to school that morning. I can't imagine "hitting the gym" when my son is missing...I don't care if the police told me to live my life as usual! I would be looking for him 24/7 and pleading with the public for help! Poor little guy! Sounds like the Caylee Anthony story all over again. I'm afraid that the outcome of this story will not be good. I'm sure the police know exactly who did it and that an arrest is imminent. God Bless You little Kyron!

DAD maybe? Neighbors see him get into the family car and not the school bus? why would she expect him off the school bus if she drove him in that day? and in this day and age of technology why doesn't that school have cameras on its exits and entrances?

Was there ever an "Amber Alert" on this little guy? I live in the P.N.W. and I never heard one. If there was no "Amber Alert" then I think the police strongly suspect a family member or friend or have a "person of intrest" Why else would they not have put out this alert?
Also why were the Police Officer's so "upset" as they announced it had turned into an "investagation"? Do they know something else? It seemed to me, from their reaction, that they were not looking for a live child anymore. I sure hope this is not the case.

Did he really like that show? and if so, Who watched that show with him?
Did his Step-mother love this show too? Maybe she was getting some pointer's about how to get rid of the "baggage" her marraige came with.

I hate to pick on the step-mom, but, everytime they show her on video or picture, she is always turning away from the camera, has her head down and tucked into her shoulder. Not once is she looking up at anyone. This gives an appearance that she is hiding something.

I have been following this case and I just do not believe the step mother did this. She was cheating on her husband which explains why she was not where she said she was but that is not a crime. The student that says he is in Kyron's class said he was told by Kyron that he was going to go see one more exhibit that was something electric.
This is a child that when at school if any adult had asked for help he would have complied. This is a stranger abduction that happened because the school had no video and he knew it. One child , alone, seperated from anyone who could protect him for that brief 2 mins.

If the step mother had nothing to with she would have not waited over a week to put a picture of him on her facebook and she wouldn't be at the gym the day after his disappearance. She killed him I can't wait til they lock her up!!!!!

i dont understand, they say he was there during the science fair right? ok so the mom stayed there with himm during that, how was she acting during that time, teachers or other parents had to know the mom she had to be a friend of some one there or an aquantince.. was there anyhing out of the norm with her, also after the fair she says she seen him walking to his classroom, was he the only child on the hallway walking? the kids just ended a fair was he walking with a friend or alone..there is no way that he can just vanish, one of his lil classmates had to see him everyone is your friend in whatever grade he is in, someone had to see something its not a mall or store, its a school and every is awhare of there surrondings ya kno, i just dont get it, it had to be someone he knew...its so sad this happens and he's not the only kid missing right now but i feel so bad the way the world is im 25 yr old and blown away that a kid can vanish from INSIDE (not even outside) a SCHOOL..I also feel that every school from 1st grade to 12th grade should hae camera's on there hole periminter inside and out...I HOPE HE COMES HOME ALIVE AND THEY FIND THE PHYSO THAT DID THIS....GOD BLESS

Please give more time on your show to finding this dear little boy while there's still hope that he'll be brought home safe and sound. Praying for you Kyron.

Tho' I know the families of the two young girls that van der Sloot has been accused of murdering (and who doesn't believe that he did it? – duh), enough time has been spent on this dirtbag – he's loving the limelight as much as that Casey Anthony. I hope neither of them ever see the light of day again.

IF MY KIDS ARE ABSENT FROM SCHOOL I GET A CALL WITHIN ONE HOUR OF THE BEGINNIG OF SCHOOL DAY ON PHONE AND CELL PHONE!!THIS IS AN OUTRAGE THAT THIS WAS ALOWED TO HAPPEN!!THIS LITTLE BOY IS A PERSON OF VALUE AND IT TOOK THAT LONG FOR THE SCHOOL TO NOTICE HE WAS MISSING FROM SCHOOL.. IF THAT IS THE CASE, AND THIS ENDS BADLY, THERE WILL BE BLOOD ON THE SCHOOLS HANDS TOO!

I have been following this story since Kyron first disappeared. This story makes me literally cry and it breaks my heart not knowing what has happened to this precious little boy. Why is the media putting so much attention on Joran Van Der Sloot when there hasn't been much media on the Kyron story lately? I personally think that Joran will get what he deserves and he is behind bars already. Let's get more attention on Kyron and bringing him home to his family. Nancy, I realize that the Joran story is big news but maybe you could do more on your show about Kyron.

I know that a lot of schools have cameras in them. If a camera was in that school, couldn't it have been checked to see if the boy was on there or the person(S) that kidnapped him?

I felt from the beganing that the stepmother has had something to do with young Kyron's dissappearance. The picture shown on the news could have been photo shopped. Bring the stepmom in for questioning and I would aslo look at camera's, if the school has them, and ask parents if they saw anyhting unusal. I still belive it was the stepmom. Look at the facts.

I've been watching this case since day 1. Facebook has over 50,000 people following this....I'd like to see Nancy or CNN, whoever is in charge of her show, seriously look into this case as much as they are devoting to someone whose already caught, van der sloot.

nancy, i may have missed this if someone has asked this question before, but i thought from the very beginning that the stepmother is involved. i wonder if she&the father have a child together, & she wanted kyron out of the way. that is just my thoughts on this tragic situation. enjoy your show!

After watching tonight's show, I was reminded of a case where a lab worker walked from one building to the next and disappeared – then they found her in the heating or air conditioning duct work of the office building. Has anyone gone through the duct work at the school to look for Kyron? (Heaven forbid)

Secondly, have they looked into the janitors/custodians backgrounds (e.g., child predators)? I pray this little boy is still with us.

I believe the Step-mom is soley involved in this case. It is all too convenient for her to have taken him to school, make an appearance with him, taken photo(s) of him, and then conveniently say she left him just prior to the start of the school day. I feel she may have waved to him, to make it visible to others that she was saying good-bye, but there is noway that child went missing in the seconds it would have taken him to reach class without someone seeing him speaking with a "stranger" or someone who would have had to of convinced him to leave the school premises when the bell has rung to commence classes! What is/was the relationship with the stepmom and this boy? How long has she been married to the father? Was she always the one who interacted with Kyron and school activities? If the father was working at home that day and was able to leave to pick him up from the bus with the stepmom how come he didn't partake in the science fair? Was he not able to attend? Did the stepmom talk him out of going? I feel horrible for this family and the school the boy attended, and the parents of the children at the school. This Stepmom has planned her stuff! and to do all this and try to imply that someone took him from school and have the school employees and families fear that there is a person preying on their children is so cruel!

What about the school...at my children's elementary school...it was a policy if a child was going to be absent the parent was to call into the school office before school started to tell them. Then, when the absentee list came into the office at the beginning of school, if a child was absent and there was no parent phone call listed the school would call the parent. Does this school have any practice like this?

When my children were in elementary and junior high school, during science fair, we were required to bring the projects in and set them up on the afternoon/evening before the actual Science Fair. Could the photo of Kyron have been taken prior to the actual morning in question? I am also skeptical of the father, along with his current wife. I've seen them together on various news reports. Neither seem to be nearly as distraught as I would be were it my SEVEN-YEAR-OLD child. It isn't as if this child is a wayward teen or young adult. If they were walking down the hallway together to his classroom, at least ONE of the many students and faculty members should have seen them in the hallway together. Especially since, according to stepmom, the bell rang as they were actually walking. I was a teacher in a high school for a while. Just prior to each bell ringing, there was a mad rush of students and teachers in hallways, trying to get to classrooms – and this was in a very small, rural public school. Where was everyone????

my question is did anyone see this step-mom drop Kyron off? where were the other students and teachers? if this was a science fair where was everyone?! why did the step mom just drop him off and leave? none of this makes any sense. how could no one had not seen anything? my guess is either somebody saw or heard something or i would start checking more into stepmom!

I think this is awful and I hope he comes home. I live in portland and have known about this case since he first disappeared, and I'm so glad Nancy is covering it..but I have a criticism about her reporting. She keeps calling were kyron disappeared a "rural" town. Its only a few minutes from downtown Portland. Its not very rural

The stepmother never looks directly at anyone. Body language is so telling! She is constantly staring downward. At one time, during the first public appearance of all four parents, while leaning her head on her husband's shoulder, she quickly looked upward in a weird way and just as quickly looked down again. Her expression is not one of grief, it is a look of "worry", worry for herself. Her only concerns are for herself at this point. I really do believe that an arrest is imminent. Stepmom...you need to confess now...the police will not stop until there is a confession and they find little Kyron. ALL arrows point in your direction. God knows where little Kyron is and he is in control.

Also, why aren't these answers noted on the media ?

Did the boy attend any classes that day ?

Did the teachers report him missing from classes ?

Did any of the children see him ?

things like that. Everthing is so vaigue.

The TV shows are showing Two biological mothers! One attractive blond, shown with Kaine Horman in one news interview, and the tall dark haired woman with glasses standing next to Terry Horman at the News conference have both been identified as the "biological mother" at different times. So which one was it? And why was the step-mother in charge of the boy if he has two other mothers?

Munchousen ??? She seems to like the attention focused on her – bodybuilder ect. Perhaps little Kyron too too much of her limelight....

Also, why didn't the school call right away when he was marked absent? My Son's school calls within a half hour of roll call and he is in high school.

I do not believe the step-mother had anything to do with this little boys disappearance. If I am wrong then so be it and I apologize, but I believe the step-mom is the escape goat for what ever happened. You know when I hear other stories about parents or step parents killing or hurting their children like Casey Anthony and Misty Croslin, I was many of the first whom said OMG they killed their babies and believed that they did upfront with no second guessing. BUT this case is different too me for some reason. I just do not believe this step-mom hurt her child step or not (plus no one takes a happy picture of a child or anyone else for that matter, if you’re planning to hurt them shortly). As for the father, why is he filing for divorce so quickly and putting a restraining order on the step-mom. This just does not sit well with me or even the fact that the biological mother acts as if she does not want to be around the step-mom (making the step-mom look guilty). In my opinion the father and biological mother are my number one suspects. There are other attributes I would like to mention as well, but for right now my baby boy needs me. :)

The step-mom in this case keeps blinking her eyes a lot. This demeanor is similar to the case years a go of the mom on the east coast who drove her two boys into the lake and lied that she was hijacked by a black guy. Back then, experts pointed out the blinking eyes of the mom was indicative of lying, during the TV interviews, also.

If you have ever helped your child complete a science fair project, let me tell you, it is STRESSFUL! The most stressful elementary activity ever! Thie kids don't get it, the parents do the work, and then you rehearse your little 7 year old child to act like they understand it. I believe the child was probably injured during preparation of the science fair project.

I don't believe the stepmom ever took him 2 school in the 1st place. This is a very strange case. Especially since the dad has left her, and filed for divorce. And went so far as to put a restraining order on her. Somethin' is definately up with this broad!!!! I don't trust her. She looked guilty 2me, from the 1st time I seen her on tv. She looks fake! Kinda like she was trying to give the impression that she cared. I don't know if she's killed this child, but She definately knows something, I think!

I have been following this story from day 1. I am a young Grandmother of three. I look at Kyron's little face and say to myself, who in their right mind wouldn't take the boy to class and hug him and give him a kiss goodbye and look at his project with the rest of the Children's. Since it wasn't a real school day, the more to stay with her son until it was all finished. When my Grandson had projects I would attend the fairs and he would be so proud to show me the project even though I saw it before. Something is not right. Something is missing.
I bet Kyron isn't far. Has the School been checked. Kryon is only little and could be anywhere in the school..... I hope everywhere's in the school has been checked even little tiny places, boxes etc. I am only 4ft 11 and you'd be surprised which spaces I could hide into. I hope he is found and I do hope the Step Mom was not involved.

It's very strange that the substitute noticed Kyron was missing but the teacher ignored her and said that he was probably in the bathroom or getting a drink of water. This information came from a classmate. Also, in the video of the child there was a shirt behind him that resembled the one in the photo of Kyron. There was what appeared to be a man in the background of the photo with a shirt on that resembled that one. Also there is a photo of Kyron on CBS #16 that has that shirt in the background. I don't know at this point if that is something that needs to be looked into.
