A young couple reportedly partied at a bar after allegedly murdering a 19-year-old girl, then argued about how to dispose of her corpse in text and Facebook messages!
If the allegations are true, that Mel Gibson subjected his former girlfriend to emotional, verbal and physical abuse, and not only struck the mother of his child, but even worse, did so while she was holding their baby in her arms and uttered horrible racial epithets, is there anything Gibson can say or do make anyone understand how or why he would behave in such a manner?
Is there any excuse?
Gibson has much to account for, if the allegations against him are proven to be correct. He will face potential criminal charges, jail-time and possible civil penalties. Could he lose custodial and visitation rights to his minor children? Possibly – if a court decides he is a danger to them. And then there are the ramifications to his reputation and career. In 2006, when it was made public Gibson ranted sexist and anti-Semitic slurs during a DUI arrest, he came out and apologized. We excused him, believing he was drunk and didn't mean what he said.
But his film career and stardom never quite recovered. The American public never looked at Gibson who was once considered a "hero" in roles like "Braveheart" and "The Patriot," in the same way again. And now a man who once touted himself as a man of faith, religion, loyalty, and integrity h as more than just slipped up and made a human mistake. His actions, if proven to be true, could even be labeled monstrous and inexcusable.
