Mom abandons baby via Craigslist?

* Mom allegedly tries to dump her baby using an online ad
* She hasn't been located yet, so her baby is in child protective services

Authorities in Indianapolis, Indiana, this week were trying to locate a mother known as “Jen” who reportedly left her one-year-old son with a babysitter and never came back to pick him up.

“It’s not my problem. I can’t,” the mother allegedly told the babysitter, Cecilia Long, who sent text messages to the mother pleading for her to come get her son.

Long began watching the infant on and off for two weeks ago after answering a Craigslist ad posted by a single mother. The mother said she was seeking an immediate babysitter to watch her son while she worked night shifts as a strip club dancer.

Long said the mother agreed to pay $75 per day, and to provide food for the child, in exchange for watching the boy at Long’s home.

"I got ten dollars total from her, and I bought milk for the baby," Long told WXIN.The mother left the boy with Long for consecutive nights and sometimes for more than a day, she said.

According to a police report filed Tuesday, Long text messaged the mother saying it was urgent she pick up her son because she had to leave town. But the mom never showed, and Long became concerned and called police. The child was taken into protective custody by the Department of Child Services.

"I want to know why the (expletive) you called CPS on me (expletive),” the mother reportedly told Long in a voicemail obtained by WXIN. “I didn't (expletive) do (expletive) to you. I owe you money yes, but I didn't do (expletive) to you."

An officer who contacted the mother says the mother disconnected the phone immediately after telling the officer to “Quit calling my (expletive)-ing phone!” Police say loud music could be heard in the background of the call and attempts to call back were unsuccessful.

Long told police the mother never provided a last name, work address or emergency contact information, only that she worked as a dancer at Rick’s.

Investigators visited Rick’s Cabaret in Indianapolis, where they believe the mother might work, but they were told no woman by the name “Jen” worked in the club.

Police report that the mother could be driving a maroon Jeep or SUV-type vehicle.
