A friend of Whitney Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, told HLN’s Nancy Grace Thursday that Brown is “distraught” over the singer’s death.
“He’s taking it really hard,” Derrick Handspike said. “…He’s pretty hurt right now.”
In Handspike’s book, "Bobby Brown: The Truth, The Whole Truth, Nothing But," The New Edition singer is quoted as saying that he never used cocaine until after he met Houston. Handspike confirmed that is what Brown told him.
“Whitney was her own person, you know,” Handspike said. “Whitney liked to party and have a good time too, I mean, just as well as Bobby.”
Handspike said he was also upset when he heard that Houston had died. “Devastated. Devastated,” he said of his reaction. “I mean, I couldn’t even believe it. It’s still really just registering now and sinking in.”

Few days ago when you said Whitney Houston had about $80 million plus her homes, but they didn't know if her affairs were in order. I saw about a month ago on the internet that Whitney was trying to borrow money from friends & specified Kevin Costner, since he become famous from her movie "The Bodyguard." She may have been taking all those anti anxiety meds & drinking alcohol cause she knew she had money problems, yet here she was at the Hilton . Money troubles can also make you have a frazzled appearance in addition to the drugs/alcohol. The people who REALLY knew her, should have taken even 1 glass of wine, champagne, or beer from her. Whoever was supposed to watch over her, should have doled out 1 pill at a time. Safety isn't just not allowing you to take baths & checking on you every few minutes in the shower–how about checking on 1 pill at a time & absolutely NO alcohol since you are an alcoholic& drug addict! I watch you EVERY NIGHT, Nancy Grace. You are my favorite. And, on another case...that husband who was the main suspect in the disappearance of his wife, who set fire to his home killing himself & his 2 little boys...well, don't you think the authorities ought to consider that in the case of the "People's Court Mom" who had the mobile tanning business? Her 2 little ones are in the custody of her abusive boyfriend, & he & his family are the chief suspects. Connect the dots! Save THESE kids from a violent death. She was only 10 & saved my life. I used to be a charge nurse on a 40 bed heart unit but haven't worked in 19 yrs. Train your little ones to help themselves, family members, and others. Only in America would reports like Nancy Grace be allowed to take reporting to new low. Her Whitney Houston comments where a disgrace. Nancy behavior over all leads me to believe that either she has water running through her veins or their is some seriouse physcalogical issues going on. I hope with all the hype going on with the speculation of how Whitney Houston died ,(which by the way hasnt been established yet )from all apearances we need to wait until all the tests results are in and a definitive confirmation has been made and by some small miracle of assesment it WAS determined to be a accident , bumped her head knocked herself out and fell into the tub or whatever , Im sure with her entourage around nobody wouldve been able to enter the room to harm her which I hope didnt happen, alas we have to wait for the results. I just turned into Nancy Grace the other night when she assumed that foul-play or murder may have been involved with this classy lady ( Whitney Houston ). I now remember why I DO NOT watch her any longer. I sure miss June Grasso who used to give the show some normalcy.
Despite the fact this is the most sensitive time in the lives of Ms Houston's family, an investigation of what really happened surrounding the death of Ms Houston is best when the evidence and incident is fresh in the minds of everyone. I agree with the comments of Larry Birkhead about the prescription drugs and pray that the government will set up a special task force to review and to monitor the sales and distribution of alcohol to known abusers and of prescription drugs. There are lots of legal
drug addicts in the world today because everyone assumes that because alcohol and "P"drugs are legal- they're ok. They're not ok! How many deaths aside from those of celebrities are caused by the use of legalized alcohol and prescription drugs?
How many of those deaths are innocent victims who in many cases don't even know the drug users personally. Now if alcohol drugs is the real reason Ms Houston died, the government has an obligation to start doing something to prevent this kind of occurrence in the future. These deaths are not because of individual choice-it's because of no restrictions for the alcohol and drugs. Whe people are not capable of making sound decisions, the laws must make them for them. However, until the final facts are in, it still remains a question-who or what really caused the death of Ms Whitney Elizabeth Houston-latest fatality in the War Against Drugs(and Alcohol).

On a serious note while reading all the comments about Whitney Houston. Thankfully not many of us blessed or cursed with talent that makes us exposed to the whole world to pull us down off the very pedestal they first set us up upon. To wake up each day knowing that whatever we wear, do, look like is fuel for comment. To know that we no longer have a private life and all our heartaches will be mocked. Having to appear when we know our looks or voice is deteriorating but that we still have to stand up before thousands is simply unimaginable to me. God rest all our "stars" that have succumbed to drugs to try to get them through. We have never had to walk in those shoes. I am not condoning the use of drugs but just trying to show some humanity

I believe Bobby is surely hurt no one knows the tie that Bobby and Whitney had I believe her death have affected him just as much as her daughter. Not letting Bobby be a part of the home-going service do not show christian love and this is nothing that God would have done. He forgive all our sins and who are we not to forgive Bobby he would allow him to share in this moment. Who can say this could have been his turning point and maybe he would have gave his life to Christ. But not showing Godly Love we will never know. We as Christian will need to do better let this be a learning lesson for all of us. His daughter need her father and although they do not want to acknowledge him that is her father and this is an important time in her life.
I really thought you were out of line when you said you wanted to know how she got her "MITTS" on the drugs. Whitney Houston has more class in her bath water than you'd ever wish to have. But I want you to remember something Nancy... she was someone's daughter and someone's mother and there's going to come a time in your life when something happens to shake the very core of your soul...I want you to remember this day.You may take your sheet out of the closet now!

i am not shock that bobby brown would be hurt over his exwife death....just because they divorce doesnt mean his love had evaporated totally–especailly with a child keeping them in contact....lets be real it takes time to get over loving someone, that is if you know what true love is
I don't blame Bobby Brown for Whitneys drug use but he need to be honest about his. He started using drugs long before he met Whitney Houston his pictures speak for themself. He is a selfish, jerk who was jealous of her fame. He still is. He need to grow up and learn to be a real man not a pretender and a real father.

Nancy! How do you find it hard to believe that Bobby Brown did not start using cocaine until he met Whitney? Do you think it's impossible for a woman to influence a man to do such a thing? Bobby never hid who he was. Whitney was good at hiding her true self from the public; furthermore, this is something that women do every day. This society has long put pressure on women to act a certain way and to be these wholesome virgins. I dated a 30 year old woman for 5 years and her religious mom still thinks she’s a virgin. Her mom doesn’t know about her large tattoo or belly ring either. Sugar and spice, and everything nice? Well we all know that's not true. Women lie everyday to keep up with what society expects of them. Men on the other hand are expected to be “dogs, immature, and care free” so it’s not really a news flash when such information surfaces. Here’s a news flash though… Women are just as curious, sexual, and bad as men are, maybe more so. Women just know how to hide their bad deeds very well.
